Introduction - Week 17 Summary - Ensign's log, stardate 100638.67, Nice! Another great and simple grow week! Been checking and adjusting soil moisture levels all week. Been steadily increasing the waterings. Moisture started off a bit low but by mid-week, levels gradually increased. Did minor defoliation along with a bit of low-stress training on the tall twin! Wow! She's a loud one! Terpenes are just slapping loud! A lot of her leaves are just greasy with trichomes! Also ordered and upgraded the grow light (did not expect ultra fast shipping). Now rocking a Mars Hydro FC-6500 and am utterly stoked! This light fits perfectly within the 4x4 tent and she's a huge upgrade which provides full wall-to-wall tent coverage! Hyped! Local VPD levels are also (finally) getting better. Still a bit low on averages, but a lot closer than before. Great! By the end of the week I also received the UIS adapter! So swapped out the old analog timer and now have the FC-6500 digitally controlled through the AC Infinity App! Pretty cool! Set a course for harvest Ensign! Maximum warp. Engage! πŸ–– [START OF WEEK 17] ========================================================== WEEK 17 - Bloom 6 WEEK 10 - Bloom 5 WEEK 09 - Bloom 5 WEEK 09 - Bloom 4 01/09/23 β†’ 01/15/23 This Week's Estimated Goals ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- DLI: 45 mol/m2/d PPFD: 694 ΞΌmol/m2/s VPD: 1.5-1.7 kPa This Week's Meter Readings & Averages ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- [TSW-2000 β†’ FC-6500] DLI: 48.18 mol/m2/d PPFD: 743 ΞΌmol/m2/s VPD: 1.36 kPa ========================================================== Day 01 - Monday - 01/09/23 - Total Days: 117 [072] [068] ----------------------------------- Daily Averages - Temps: 76.3Β°F [24.6Β°C] - Humidity: 55.5% - VPD: 1.36 kPa - Soil %: [26, 19, 28, 25] ----------------------------------- - [09:30]: Good morning my ladies! --- Buds are everywhere! --- And wow the aroma is just slapping! --- Ooowee! --- Not much to do today but wait! --- Gonna be another easy grow day! - [21:00]: Evening my gals! --- Growth still looks incredible! --- Frosty buds on the second plant! --- So hyped for harvest! --- Refilled the humidifier with distilled water and Hydrogen Peroxide (~20mL). Day 02 - Tuesday - 01/10/23 - Total Days: 118 [073] [069] ----------------------------------- Daily Averages - Temps: 75.6Β°F [24.2Β°C] - Humidity: 55.7% - VPD: 1.32 kPa - Soil %: [26, 19, 28, 25] ----------------------------------- - [09:22]: Morning girls! --- Growing along nicely! --- Buds are just getting frosty on the second plant! --- Pistil hairs on the lower colas are starting to brown while sugar leaves on the upper growth are turning more purple. Beautiful! --- While the tallest twin is just ramping up into early bloom! --- Determining a good harvest time for all plants is going to be a bit of a challenge. Going to probably wait an extra week or so beyond when I'd usually harvest while harvesting one plant several weeks too early. --- Also will check trichomes weekly. - [17:44]: Good evening ladies! --- Wow growth looking phenomenal! --- Buds are just ripening up and getting loud! - [17:48]: Checked the soil moisture for both EarthBoxes. --- The soil for the new EarthBox was getting dry (with a reading of 2.5 out of 10). --- The soil on the other side had slightly less moisture (with a reading of a 2 out of 10). --- The top soil on both sides still looked nice and hydrated. --- The soil for the original EarthBox was dry (with a reading of a 2.5 out of 10). --- The top soil was looking dry. - [17:52]: Checked the current Ecowitt soil moisture sensor data: --- 26% - [CH01 EB1 Original Grow] --- 19% - [CH02 EB1 Second Plant] --- 28% - [CH03 EB2 Short Twin] --- 25% - [CH04 EB2 Tall Twin] - [18:00]: Defoliated the yellowing leaves. --- Tucked the trimmings under the mulch cover. --- Time to bottom water! --- Going to increase the watering (6 cups in each reservoir). - [18:31]: Filled a pitcher with 8 cups of distilled water. --- Added 1/16tsp of Quillaja Saponaria Extract --- Added 1/8tsp of Bio-Phos --- Added 1tsp of Horticultural Coconut --- Added 2.5mL of Bio-Catalyst Enzyme Elixer --- Added 8mL of Yah-Whey --- Mixed the solution and poured 4 cups into each EarthBox's fill tube. --- Then poured an additional 2 cups of straight distilled water into each fill tube (6 cups for each). - [21:28]: Decided to do a bit of low-stress training on the tallest twin. --- Her main cola is getting a bit tall and is starting to take over. Time to bend her over! --- By bending over the main-stalk, the canopy can easily be expanded to fill in --- Using a garden yo-yo and binder clip, I gently bent the main stalk over and secured the branch to one side of the EarthBox (bent her back towards the fill tube). I did not super crop. Just gently bent and secured the main cola down to even out the canopy. --- Ooowee! Wow she's loud! --- Trichomes are just resin-railed and greasy. Just coated everywhere! --- She's now definitely shorter than both plants in the original EarthBox, but is already looking a lot bushier! Hyped! --- By evening out the canopy, nutrient distribution will also be re-directed to the side growth which will make more bud sites and colas. - [22:55]: A complete warp-core refit has been scheduled! πŸ–– --- Err.. I mean.. Ordered a new grow light! --- [*smokes a bowl] --- With a new 4-plant photo-period grow just around the corner (currently set for 4 feminized beans of 'Fuel D.OG' by 'Seedsman' but may change), I decided to upgrade my light! --- Have a new Mar Hydro FC-6500 on the way! A huge upgrade to my current TSW-2000. --- By rocking industry leading Samsung LM301B diodes, this grow light will max out my entire 4x4ft tent and should never have to worry about PPFD targets. --- At 44.5x44in (or 1130x1120mm), the FC-6500 should barely fit within my grow tent and will literally provide wall-to-wall coverage. --- Also, using a UIS adapter (purchased separately through AC Infinity), the FC-6500 can be controlled through the AC Infinity Controller 69! Still have to research this a bit more, but hyped for the potential possibility! --- [*smokes another bowl] Day 03 - Wednesday - 01/11/23 - Total Days: 119 [074] [070] ----------------------------------- Daily Averages - Temps: 75.3Β°F [24.1Β°C] - Humidity: 54.6% - VPD: 1.33 kPa - Soil %: [27, 21, 29, 27] ----------------------------------- - [09:28]: Morning my green beauties! --- Being a new grower (my second time through flower), this is not really saying much, but wow! These plants are by far the loudest cultivars I have ever grown! --- The tallest twin is still recovering from the LST, but looks and smells incredible! --- Nothing to do but wait! --- Steady as she grows Ensign! - [16:28]: Good evening my ladies! --- Wow growth is just phenomenal! --- Girls are getting greasy with trichomes! --- Just can't get enough of the terpenes! --- Easy grow day! --- Nothing to do today but wait! - [17:06]: Checked the current Ecowitt soil moisture sensor data: --- 27% - [CH01 EB1 Original Grow] --- 21% - [CH02 EB1 Second Plant] --- 29% - [CH03 EB2 Short Twin] --- 27% - [CH04 EB2 Tall Twin] Day 04 - Thursday - 01/12/23 - Total Days: 120 [075] [071] ----------------------------------- Daily Averages - Temps: 76.7Β°F [24.8Β°C] - Humidity: 55.9% - VPD: 1.35 kPa - Soil %: [38, 28, 42, 53] ----------------------------------- - [09:33]: Good morning my ladies! --- Wow! Getting slapped in the face with terpenes! --- Stinky earthy aromas with fuel and gassy undertone! Smells dank! --- Plan to do a basic top feeding tonight. --- Until then, not much else to do but wait! - [12:31]: Attention all Starfleet personnel!! Attention all Starfleet personnel!! --- A transport ship has arrived from Utopia Planitia fleet yard (located on Mars). Ensign420, please report to main engineering immediately for a complete warp core overhaul. πŸ–– --- Anyways! Ooowee! Soo stoked! --- Got my package straight from Mars Hydro! --- Was not expecting to receive my light this quickly! --- Have to say that shipping was insanely fast! Just incredible! --- Package arrived completely undamaged! --- Wow! --- She's a beauty! --- This Mars Hydro FC-6500 is a beast!! --- Compared to my current TSW-2000, the build quality on the FC-6500 is on a completely new level! --- This light is robust! --- So hyped!! --- Oh, the light also came with an array of accessories along with a generic user guide. - [13:12]: Decided to hang the new warp reactor, err, I mean driver ballast, outside the tent. --- Since I am going to simply swap out the current light (using the same hanging ratchets), I utilized the provided metal hangers to securely hang the ballast unit just outside the tent. Great! --- This particular grow light came equipped with self-branded Mars Hydro ballast driver. Great! Have an appropriate AC Infinity UIS adapter on its way to enable controller support and automated lighting schedules. --- Screw it! --- Since all plants are currently autoflowers, going to turn the lights on a bit early (oh by about 2.5hrs). --- These ladies should be able to handle a bit more light for a day. - [13:20]: Okay time to swap out the grow light! --- Installation was pretty straightforward. --- I simply detached the ratchets from the old TSW-2000 (keeping the unit plugged in) and set it aside for temporary bounce lighting. - [13:41]: Then unfolded and secured the FC-6500 with the same ratchets and plugged her in! --- Wow! She's a beauty! Definitely digging the foldable bar-style design! --- Side note, the light is shipped from the factory with the driver switch set to EXT. This sets the light output to max. --- Had to set the switch to DIM before turning the knob up to ~80% output. - [14:09]: Took basic PPFD reading. Only focused on the second plant. --- PPFD readings for the main grow was at 657 ΞΌmol/m2/s which gives a DLI of 42.57 mol/m2/d --- Cool! --- But 501.7W is unnecessarily high for what I need. - [14:22]: Decided to lower the light. --- Then adjusted the ballast to around 55% output. - [14:27]: Took another general reading. --- PPFD readings for the main grow was at 665 ΞΌmol/m2/s which gives a DLI of 43.09 mol/m2/d --- Nice! --- Checked the wattage meter and she was utilizing around 412.9W of energy. --- Perfect! --- Will check height and take proper reading later tonight. --- Wow! --- Almost went with the smaller model (the FC-4800), but extremely happy I didn't! --- This light fits perfectly! --- Ooowee! --- Complete wall-to-wall coverage! --- Unless this light breaks (don't frack this up Ensign), I should never need another light for this 4x4 setup! Just incredible! --- This light is a huge improvement to the old one in many ways! --- The new bar design is both sleek and functional. The TSW-2000 looks like a toy compared to the FC-6500. --- Wow she's sexy! --- And bright! She's rocking a whopping 730W of potential power and distributes this energy amongst an impressive array of 3,144 light emitters (both Samsung LM301B and Osram 660 diodes). --- The placement of the diodes are also configured in a way to reduce hot spots in the center. --- Also the FC-6500 ballast cord is noticeably longer for convent external placement (had to place the old ballasts on top of the tent). --- Really digging that the FC-6500 uses a single ballast driver (the TSW-2000 uses two separate ballasts). Also the dimmer knob and automation compatibility is a huge upgrade! No more using a screw driver to adjust the wattage on two separate ballasts. --- Very cool! --- [*smokes a bowl] - [18:47]: Okay! Evening checkup time! --- Good evening my ladies! --- Tonight's a slightly longer day cycle. --- But wow! Growth is looking incredible! --- Buds are frosted white with trichomes! --- Terpenes are just slapping too! Wow! --- Hyped! - [18:55]: Checked the soil moisture for both EarthBoxes with a basic meter (once on side each). --- The soil for the new EarthBox was pretty good (with a reading of 5.1 out of 10). --- The top soil looked nice and hydrated. --- The soil for the original EarthBox was also pretty good (with a reading of a 4.5 out of 10). --- The top soil was looking drier but still hydrated. - [19:07]: Checked the current Ecowitt soil moisture sensor data: --- 28% - [CH01 EB1 Original Grow] --- 21% - [CH02 EB1 Second Plant] --- 31% - [CH03 EB2 Short Twin] --- 28% - [CH04 EB2 Tall Twin] --- All around moisture levels seem pretty good! --- Going to top feed the same 4 cups for both EarthBoxes. - [19:22]: Took PPFD readings. --- PPFD readings for the main grow was at 672 ΞΌmol/m2/s which gives a DLI of 43.55 mol/m2/d --- PPFD readings for the young plant was at 664 ΞΌmol/m2/s which gives a DLI of 43.03 mol/m2/d --- PPFD readings for the short twin was at 567 ΞΌmol/m2/s which gives a DLI of 36.74 mol/m2/d --- PPFD readings for the tall twin was at 591 ΞΌmol/m2/s which gives a DLI of 38.30 mol/m2/d --- With a continued DLI goal of 45 mol/m2/d (which is a PPFD goal of 694 ΞΌmol/m2/s) for the taller plants, going to leave everything alone. --- Very impressed on the how even the light coverage is! --- Stoked for the next grow cycle! Plan to fill this tent wall-to-wall with 4 photo-periods before flipping to flower. This new light will easily crush it! - [19:43]: Took height readings. --- The original grow was around 17.25" tall. --- The second plant in the original EarthBox was about 15.5" tall. --- The short twin was 8.5" tall. --- The tall twin was 12.25" tall. --- The distance between the original grow and light was around 17" --- The distance between the second plant and the light was around 18.75" --- The distance between the short twin and the light was around 26" --- The distance between the tall twin and the light was around 22" --- Hmm. Measuring under the new light is a bit wonky, but doable. --- I keep hitting my head on the light (damnit Ensign). --- Since I want to keep the light low, going to just deal with it (not a big deal). - [20:04]: Rotated the EarthBox configuration 90 degrees counter clockwise. --- Okay! --- Time to start the feeding! - [20:46]: Filled a pitcher with 8 cups of distilled water. --- Added 1/16tsp of Quillaja Saponaria Extract --- Added 1/8tsp of: ----- BuildABloom ----- Bio-Phos ----- Big 6 Micronutrients [+ Humic Acid] --- Added 1/2tsp of: ----- Pure Protein Dry [Organic Fish Aminos] --- Added 1tsp of: ----- Horticultural Coconut --- Added 2.5mL of Bio-Catalyst Enzyme Elixer --- Added 6mL of Yah-Whey --- Mixed the solution and poured half straight into a spray bottle (4cups). --- Set the remaining solution along with the bottle aside for later. --- Did not defoliate any leaves! - [20:56]: Misted the top soil of the original EarthBox with the entire bottle of solution (4 cups). --- Tried to mist both sides evenly. --- Also sprayed under the mulch cover by lifting it up with one hand while misting with the other. --- This time, I made sure to also spray each soil moisture sensor. - [21:16]: Rotated the EarthBoxes back to the default configuration. --- Then poured the solution saved from earlier into the spray bottle and misted the top soil of the new EarthBox. --- Again, making sure to also spray each soil moisture sensor. --- Also refilled the humidifier with distilled water and Hydrogen Peroxide (~20mL). --- Wow! Buds are just ripening! --- Resin-railed sugar leaves and just greasy with stanky goodness! --- Hyped! --- Wow! The short twin doesn't have that many bud sites, but wow! The buds that she has are just stacked with growth! --- The tall twin is still recovering from the low-stress training but looking and smelling very nice! --- Side note on the FC-6500. This light is just incredible and wouldn't change a thing! However, under the current output settings and height, photos are constantly looking way too warm. Not a big deal, but just a bit annoying. --- Anyways! --- The second plant will ultimately determine when harvest will be. She is clearly showing signs of senescence (purpling of the sugar leaves) so I'm thinking at least 2-3 more weeks still left. --- Even so, plan to check trichomes tomorrow! --- Overly stoked for harvest! --- More so, can't wait to start the next grow log! --- Currently, I'm done with autoflowers. The next cycle will definitely be running genetics that are photo-period. Still going with 4 feminized beans of some 'Fuel D.OG' by 'Seedsman,' but may change. --- Regardless, too hyped! --- Grow strong my girls! Day 05 - Friday - 01/13/23 - Total Days: 121 [076] [072] ----------------------------------- Daily Averages - Temps: 75.6Β°F [24.2Β°C] - Humidity: 56.4% - VPD: 1.29 kPa - Soil %: [33, 26, 39, 47] ----------------------------------- - [09:27]: Morning my ladies! --- Everyone is growing along very nicely! --- Wow! Terpenes are just slapping loud! --- When taking log photos, images are still difficult to take under the new light (too warm in color), but wow she's a beauty! - [16:02]: Evening my girls! --- Growth is looking incredible! --- Buds continuing to ripen and frost up! --- Refilled the humidifier with distilled water and Hydrogen Peroxide (~20mL). --- Wow! The diodes on the FC-6500 are bright! --- Not much else to do now but wait! Day 06 - Saturday - 01/14/23 - Total Days: 122 [077] [073] ----------------------------------- Daily Averages - Temps: 77.8Β°F [25.4Β°C] - Humidity: 56.6% - VPD: 1.40 kPa - Soil %: [32, 26, 38, 47] ----------------------------------- - [09:56]: Morning my girls! --- A quick morning checkup! --- Ooowee! Slapping loud today! --- Wow! All around growth is looking incredible! --- Buds are ripening very nicely! - [12:36]: Nice! Another shipment has arrived from Starfleet! --- Err, I mean, got a new package! --- Nice! Received my UIS lighting adapter from AC Infinity! --- The packaged came perfectly packed and undamaged and included a USB to RJ11/12 adapter. --- A complimentary RJ11 cable was also provided. --- Time to install the adapter! - [12:46]: Connected the included RJ11 cable to the Mars Hydro FC-6500's driver control unit. --- After connecting the cable to CH1, I made sure to set the dial to OFF and the light switch to EXT. --- At this time I also removed the analog timer (light is still current off). --- Attached the Type-A adapter to the cable and connected the other end to the AC Infinity Controller 69 unit. --- Great! --- Now I can digitally control both the intensity and ON/OFF schedules through the AC Infinity App! --- Setting up the automation was also quite simple. --- Had to make sure to set the default MIN/MAX parameters for both the ON and OFF modes. Have the MIN/MAX light intensity set to 0/6 for now with the default mode set to OFF. - [13:05]: Under the automations tab, went in and created an identical 18/6 schedule. Lights ON is still set from 1600 to 1000 (or 4pm to 10am). --- Great! --- Will go in later during lights on with a PPFD meter to adjust the light's intensity later. - [16:37]: Good evening my ladies! --- Wow growth is looking great! --- Buds are continuing to ripening and frosting up! --- Stoked! --- Also glad the grow light turned on at the correct time. --- Okay now that the lights are on, - [16:47]: Took full PPFD readings. --- PPFD readings for the main grow was at 743 ΞΌmol/m2/s which gives a DLI of 48.15 mol/m2/d --- PPFD readings for the young plant was at 724 ΞΌmol/m2/s which gives a DLI of 46.92 mol/m2/d --- PPFD readings for the short twin was at 634 ΞΌmol/m2/s which gives a DLI of 41.08 mol/m2/d --- PPFD readings for the tall twin was at 657 ΞΌmol/m2/s which gives a DLI of 42.57 mol/m2/d --- With a DLI goal of 45 mol/m2/d (which is a PPFD goal of 694 ΞΌmol/m2/s) for the taller plants, the DLI is a bit high, but going to leave everything alone. --- Pretty certain the girls can handle the increased light levels but can always lower it later if needed. --- So with the MAX light intensity set to 6, the FC-6500 is currently drawing about 447.0W of energy. --- Not going to bottom water tonight so another easy day of growing! Day 07 - Sunday - 01/15/23 - Total Days: 123 [078] [074] ----------------------------------- Daily Averages - Temps: 77.7Β°F [25.4Β°C] - Humidity: 56.7% - VPD: 1.39 kPa - Soil %: [31, 26, 38, 45] ----------------------------------- - [07:38]: Quick morning check! --- Wow! Terpy odors are just slapping! --- All around growth is looking good! --- Getting hyped for harvest! --- Decided to not check trichomes this week and will wait until next week. -[18:56]: Evening my girls! --- Growing along very nicely! --- Refilled the humidifier with distilled water and Hydrogen Peroxide (~20mL). --- Buds are just getting powdered in trichomes! Wow! --- Hmm. --- The top of the second plant seems to be drooping a bit. - [21:16]: Decided to remove a garden yo-yo from the second plant. --- The top bud was starting to droop backwards, so removed the yo-yo and gently bent the main stalk upwards. --- Great! Now she's pointing straight up! --- Also, damn she's greasy with terps too! Wow! The gassy funk is just intoxicating! --- Can't get enough of it! --- Also, VPD levels are looking a whole lot better now too! --- A temp of 81Β°F with an RH of 48% gives a VPD of 1.88 kPa --- Current local VPD levels (according to the meters) are looking a bit high, but a lot better. --- Great! --- Kinda curious to compare the tent's VPD to general local levels at the end of the week. - [21:27]: Checked the current Ecowitt soil moisture sensor data: --- 31% - [CH01 EB1 Original Grow] --- 26% - [CH02 EB1 Second Plant] --- 38% - [CH03 EB2 Short Twin] --- 45% - [CH04 EB2 Tall Twin] --- Moisture levels seem pretty good. --- Not going to water tonight. --- Easy night of growing! @Dirty_Hippy, Siiick!! Now I'm no expert but feel free to follow along growmie! I try to post weekly! I'm still learning how to grow in it, but have so far enjoyed using the EarthBox. I recommend checking out the BuildASoil YT channel if you really want great free info on organic growing in the EarthBox.
