Introduction - Week 02 Summary - Ensign's log, stardate 100334.86, Steady as she grows! Another healthy week of growing! Been gradually increasing the RH all week which has brought the VPD down, but I think averages can still be a bit lower. Did an IPM spraying before removing the humidity dome towards the end of the week. Glad to see that without the dome, growth has been looking healthy and green! Opps! Kinda forgot about my worm bin. So did bit of vermicomposting. To my surprise, the population has noticeably increased since the last checkup (which was over 20 days ago, damnit Ensign). Now that I have at least one completed grow, it's actually been quite useful to look back and compare the day-by-day growth between this attempt and my last. Unlike my last grow, decided to hold off on feeding and she has been growing along green and healthy! I still haven't even given her a watering yet. Just been misting the top soil daily. Looking good little one! --- She looks happy and perky! --- Plan to increase the DLI tonight. - [22:00]: Good evening beautiful! --- Looking great! --- Time to increase the DLI! --- Took a PPFD reading which was at 175 μmol/m2/s --- I then lowered the light down and took another reading. --- The new PPFD reading was at 241 μmol/m2/s --- This gives a DLI of 15.62 mol/m2/d --- This week's DLI goal is 16 mol/m2/d --- Perfect! --- Again, to prevent any leaf burn, for this run, I'm trying to give less PPFD rather than more. - [22:24]: Time for a misting! --- Using a spray bottle, I misted the grow bag and surrounding top soil with distilled water. --- I also misted the dome before placing it back. --- Also refilled the humidifier with distilled water (and a bit of Hydrogen Peroxide). --- Done! - [23:37]: Increased the humidifier's target value a bit. --- The humidifier's controller target values are now at 76.0°F/72.0% [TEMP/RH] --- The exhaust controller's temperature triggers are unchanged at 85°F/73°F [HIGH/LOW] with the MIN/MAX speeds still at 2/10. --- Since I plan to remove the dome by the end of the week, I want to increase the RH just a bit more. --- The current TEMP/RH is 78°F/69% --- This gives a VPD of 1.02 kPa --- Perfect! --- I'm pretty sure I can maintain the VPD goal of 0.8-1.1 kPa --- I just want to lower the VPD a bit lower. --- So far so good! Day 02 - Tuesday - 09/27/22 - Total Days: 013 ----------------------------------- Daily Averages - Temps: 78.8°F [26.0°C] - Humidity: 69.2% - VPD: 1.01 kPa ----------------------------------- - [09:18]: Good morning my beautiful girl! --- Wow! --- Her second set of true leaves have already started to raise and growth looks green and perky! --- Hyped! - [09:27]: Okay, time for an IPM spraying! --- Filled a measuring cup with 1/2cup of distilled water. --- Added 1mL of Tweetmint Enzyme Plant Wash --- Mixed the solution and poured it straight into a spray bottle. --- Misted the top soil and grow bag (did not use the entire bottle). Just enough to wet the surface. Even misted the sides of the EarthBox with the solution. Smells like minty peppermint! --- Also misted the dome with the Tweetmint solution before placing it back on. This time with the vents slightly opened. --- Still plan to remove the dome by the end of the week so trying to acclimate her to the tent's environment. - [16:20]: Aye looking good little one! --- Growing along very nicely! Stoked! --- Gonna open the vents on the dome soon. - [19:58]: Okay time for a quick misting! --- Using a spray bottle, I gently misted the top soil and grow bag with distilled water. --- Also misted the dome before placing it back. This time the vents were about half opened. --- Considering my past grow attempts, I'm very hyped with the growth! --- Usually there is a deficiency or yellowing, but nothing! Ooowee! --- Don't frack this up Ensign! --- [*smokes a bowl] Day 03 - Wednesday - 09/28/22 - Total Days: 014 ----------------------------------- Daily Averages - Temps: 78.6°F [25.9°C] - Humidity: 69.5% - VPD: 1.00 kPa ----------------------------------- - [09:30]: Quick morning check! --- Growing along nicely! - [21:18]: Good evening! --- Growth is looking perky and green! --- I really want to water her, but just going to give a misting. --- Using a spray bottle, I misted the grow bag and surrounding top soil with distilled water. --- Also misted the dome before placing back on. Now with the vent fully opened. - [22:17]: Refilled the humidifier with more distilled water (added a bit of Hydrogen Peroxide too). --- Seems to maintain the current VPD goal (0.8-1.1 kPa), the humidifier's tank need to be refilled about every 2 days. --- Keep growing strong little one! Day 04 - Thursday - 09/29/22 - Total Days: 015 ----------------------------------- Daily Averages - Temps: 78.5°F [25.8°C] - Humidity: 69.6% - VPD: 0.99 kPa ----------------------------------- - [09:29]: Good morning beautiful! --- Wow! --- Her second set of true leaves are almost as large as her first set. It's just incredible how symmetrical the growth has been! --- Also her leaves still look green and perky! --- Been adjusting the VPD and I think I have everything properly dialed in! --- Current tent TEMP/RH check gives a reading of 75°F/72% which gives a VPD of 0.83 kPa --- The current VPD goal is 0.8-1.1 kPa --- Perfect! --- Plan to remove the dome tonight. --- Too keep the environment extra humid, will continue to mist the top soil daily. - [18:26]: Evening checkup! --- Wow! Looking very happy today! --- Okay time to remove the dome! --- Done! --- To further help with the switch from the dome to the tent, going to wet the soil a bit. - [18:30] Filled a measuring cup with 1/2cup of distilled water. --- Added 1/64tsp of Quillaja Saponaria Extract --- Added 1/32tsp of Horticultural Aloe --- Mixed the solution and poured it straight into a spray bottle. --- Misted the top soil and grow bag with the entire bottle. This time I focused most of the misting around the grow bag. --- Current tent TEMP/RH check gives a reading of 80°F/70% which gives a VPD of 1.05 kPa --- The current VPD goal is 0.8-1.1 kPa --- A bit on the higher end, but readings are still within threshold levels so going to continue on. --- Up until now, VPD readings have been ignored because they were skewed by the use of the humidity dome (RH under the dome has been way higher than the external tent's RH, so the VPD has been lower). --- Now that the dome has been removed, vapor pressure deficit readings should be more accurate. --- Of course, in case growth gets worse, I still have the humidity dome on standby. --- Grow strong and healthy little one! Day 05 - Friday - 09/30/22 - Total Days: 016 ----------------------------------- Daily Averages - Temps: 76.3°F [24.6°C] - Humidity: 67.2% - VPD: 0.99 kPa ----------------------------------- - [09:13]: Quick morning check! --- Growth is looking nice and healthy! - [21:24]: Evening checkup! --- Still growing along beautifully! --- Humidifier was low. --- Refilled the humidifier with distilled water and Hydrogen Peroxide. - [22:07]: Time for a top soil misting! --- Using a spray bottle, I misted the top soil and grow bag with distilled water. --- Depending on growth, I plan to fill in the hole and install the plastic mulch cover within the next week or two. - [23:25]: Increased the humidifier's target value a bit more. --- The humidifier's controller target values are now at 76.0°F/74.0% [TEMP/RH] --- The exhaust controller's temperature triggers are still unchanged at 85°F/73°F [HIGH/LOW] with the MIN/MAX speeds still at 2/10. Day 06 - Saturday - 10/01/22 - Total Days: 017 ----------------------------------- Daily Averages - Temps: 75.7°F [24.3°C] - Humidity: 62.7% - VPD: 1.10 kPa ----------------------------------- - [07:40]: Good morning my beauty! --- Growth is looking nice and green! --- Her second set of serrated leaves have 3 fingers. --- Hyped! --- Comparing the growth from my last grow, this one is looks way healthier! --- Grow strong my little one! - [19:44]: Aye! Good evening little one! --- Growing along green and healthy! --- Did a height check and she was just under 2" tall! --- Not bad for 12-13 days of top growth. - [19:47]: Using a spray bottle, I misted the grow bag and surrounding top soil with distilled water. --- I am a bit concerned with the VPD readings. --- According to the meter nearest to her, the RH is still way too low. --- Not sure on the accuracy of the meter, but sort of makes sense. --- Both temps and RH would be affected by the light so will probably have to increase the tent's RH to offset the difference. - [20:16]: Worm bin check! --- Oops. It's been a while. --- It's been 23 days since the last checkup and feeding. --- Wow! There were quite a bit of worms on the top soil! --- The mango seed pit was still there. But everything else was completely decomposed. --- Gave the bin a good mix and was glad that the worm population has noticeably increased! --- The coco and soil medium was getting denser, but was still fluffy. --- Once everything was evenly mixed, I dug a hole in the center. - [20:23]: Time to feed the worms! --- Going to feed slices of mango, a chunk of a frozen banana, and a few pieces of celery. --- Also going to add more bokashi. --- Plan to feed enough for about 10-14 days. --- First I placed the slices of mango in the bottom of the hole. --- Then layered slices of frozen banana on top of the mango. --- Lastly, the celery was tossed on top (cut into smaller chunks). --- Sprinkled 2tbsp of Kashi Blend --- Then covered the hole with the surrounding soil. --- Sprinkled another 1tbsp of Kashi Blend on top. --- Covered the top of the soil with bits of shredded brown paper. --- Using a spray bottle, I misted the paper until it was slightly damp (~10 sprays). --- Then covered everything with a fresh piece of brown paper. --- Lastly, sealed the bin with a cleaned lid. --- Done! --- Eat up little wormies! Plan to check back in about 7-10 days. --- Hmm. --- Depending on overall plant growth, around this time, I also plan to fill in the hole in the EarthBox. May transplant a few more worms too. - [22:36]: Increased the humidifier's target value even more. --- The humidifier's controller target values are now at 76.0°F/76.0% [TEMP/RH] --- The exhaust controller's temperature triggers are still unchanged at 85°F/73°F [HIGH/LOW] with the MIN/MAX speeds still at 2/10. --- If I can't get the VPD down lower, soon, may end up using the humidity dome again. --- But growth looks good so just going to grow on! Day 07 - Sunday - 10/02/22 - Total Days: 018 ----------------------------------- Daily Averages - Temps: 75.9°F [24.4°C] - Humidity: 66.1% - VPD: 1.01 kPa ----------------------------------- - [07:27]: Early morning checkup! --- Great! Growth looks pretty healthy! --- Surprisingly, still no yellowing! --- Gave the grow bag and surrounding top soil a quick misting of distilled water. --- Also refilled the humidifier again with more distilled water and splash of Hydrogen Peroxide (~10mL) - [18:58]: Alright! Evening check! --- Nice! Growth is looking great! --- She's still green and healthy! --- I really want to feed her! --- But I think I'll hold off and will just give a misting. --- Been looking back at my previous grow and I think I feed/watered too early. --- So since she is still green and healthy, not going to water. - [18:59]: Using a spray bottle, I misted the grow bag and surrounding top soil with distilled water. --- This was mainly to wet her leaves and to provide a higher RH for a bit. --- Wow! Another healthy week of growth! --- Looking back and comparing growth from my last grow (Black Sugar - Week 3 of Veg - Day 18 Entry), I am very happy with her health! --- She is by far healthier and greener than the last one (which was showing signs of yellowing around this time). --- Don't frack this one up Ensign! --- Anyways, --- Next week will be another DLI increase from 16 to 20 mol/m2/d --- Still not completely happy with the VPD but getting close. Temps are pretty good, but will continue to increase the RH to bring the VPD down a bit more. [END OF WEEK 02]
