Since I had to 86 my two hermed Dark Star plants, figured may as well put this one out there. She's doing really well and much better than the last time I ran 10th Planet. There's another 10th and a Cindy 99 in the room as well, but 2 weeks behind the plant I'll track here.
Looking back at photos from weeks ago, the Dark Star plants were a lot taller and had a lot less leaves and much thicker branches than the bushy 10th Planet.
Branches getting tied together to support themselves, definitely packing on weight earlier than I'm used to. The runoff values (listed in grow conditions) are right on the money and she's cookin'!
Cruising along...took a few leaves off the bottom that had some rust spots on them...seems weird that they'd be deficient in Mg because of the buffered substrate and I've been supplementing with CA and Mg the whole way through. Maybe it's something else. Doesn't seem to be affecting bud development, as they're stacking up nicely.
Added Sensizym to the feed schedule to clean up the root zone and break down any debris. It's worth noting that I'm using the same Coco since my third grow so there's always traces of dead roots from previous grows.
Flowers are already pretty dense with a nice layer of trichomes. Hoping to see some of the smaller clusters stack into each other this week making some fat colas. Upped the EC to 1.7 and will be at 1.8 towards the end of the week. With a finishing time of 56-60 days, this one could be ready before the 9 week mark.
Update:
I'm seeing a lot of dark pistils already and the lower buds are ripening first. Never seen that before. There's a substantial amount of cloudy trichomes on the tops and with about 16 days left to the 56 day mark, I should start flushing soon.
EC run-off was hot at 2.5 and started seeing some leaves curling. The pots are drying out super fast and that's what's been giving me issues with high run-off values. I could never figure out how I'd get signs of overfeeding when I NEVER overfeed. Turns out I just needed to add an extra watering event to keep the coco wet. Root zone EC still rises during lights off, (as there's a 13 hour gap in feeding overnight) but it stays much closer to the EC in.
Oh baby. Colours are starting to come in with the cool night air (17c). Nice shades of red and purple throughout and the smell is absolutely mouth watering. Grapes and gas with a bit of peppery spice on the nose. On the last run the two phenos smelled like blueberry baked goods.
Instead of increasing fertilizer this week, I'm dropping it down to 1.0 (from 1.8). I'm guessing harvest will be closer to 8 weeks than 9 based on trichomes, so I doubt there's going to be any measurable increase in flower size at this point. Makes more sense to start starving her off and do a long flush to get the best aroma and flavor out of her. Starting the week with Overdrive, Precision Bloom and CM+ and ending with a few waterings with Humates (Fulvic/humic acid) to help absorb nutrients in the substrate. Flush next week.
Start of week 8. Removed all fertilizer and replaced with Flawless Finish. 0.5 EC for half the week, then just water...no pH. Likely a day 56 chop, but I want to see some amber trichomes first.
Update: I've decided to let her go another week. Probably chop after day 60. There's two other girls in the room at week 7 that will likely go the full 9 weeks. Not seeing enough amber and figure may as well keep the smell contained an extra week.
Started adding pics of the other pheno. She's much shorter and has that blueberry muffin nose on her. Pretty frosty but looks like a low yielder. She has a lot more leaves throughout the colas vs the taller pheno, which is very calyx heavy.
Update 2: Last day of week 8 for the tall 10th Planet. My Cindy 99 (@ day 49) has started throwing up bananas. Not sure it really matters at this point. I'll just pick them off for the last 10-14 days and start flushing her early. This grow has had it's hiccups for sure but there's still some positives to build from.
Literally just a day or two of water and she's ready to chop.
Update:
Day 59 chop! EC runoff was 0.2 (same as the tap water) so I'm happy with the flush. Decided against a 48 hour dark period as I've stressed these girls enough. Plus the flowers are completely caked so I can't see there being much of a benefit. Spotted the odd fungus gnat in the room so best to dump the coco anyway. 4 grows in the same coco!! Just flushed and re-buffed, absolutely love this substrate.
Environment targets for the dry:
Temperature: 60-70F
Humidity: 45-55%
Flower has been trimmed and jarred up for curing. Dried a lot faster than I expected. The low humidity during bloom and the brief spike of high temps certainly sped things up. Will update after cured at least 2 weeks. Easily the frostiest flower I've grown yet and insanely terpy. Mouth watering stash incoming!
Dried weight: 244 grams flower
90 grams sugar leaf
Had my share of speed bumps in this grow. The 10th Planet held up against the many stressors I threw at her but my two Dark Star hermed and C99 threw bananas so I've got to do a better job keeping stress down.
Two phenos, one was short, one tall. Shorty smells like blueberry muffins, tall girl has that artificial candy grape nose. Gassy and spicy skunk. Both have absolutely beautiful colours and are covered in trichomes.
I'm drying low and slow keeping temperatures below 18c and humidity between 45-55%. May take 10-14 days but could be faster as the room humidity was in the high 30's for the last few weeks of bloom. Updates to come as the flower is dried, trimmed, weighed and cured. Happy New Year indeed!
Update: After 6 days of consistent temperature and humidity, the temp spiked to 24.5c and humidity dropped to 31%...AT 4 AM! Makes no sense. Should've been the coolest at that time. Anyway...things feel crispy now sooo I guess I'll start trimming her.
Update: 244 grams flower, 90 grams sugar leaf. Found 5 seeds while trimming...hope the buds aren't filled with the things...
@@Louder,Ya, He put on quite the show, between him and bucky we have the net covered really good. Another WIN last night😀, hope we can replicate tonight..
Merry Christmas!!
@northernMike, Thanks! Hoping to see her really bulk up the next week or so. Wanted to snip the little lower branches off but now I'm afraid I'll stress her out and herm her too lol
@@Louder, I'll stick to auto's for the remainder of this year just so I have some herb to smoke this summer and next fall I'll start a few photo's, can't wait, got my strains all picked out already, all sativa except for one.
Have yourself a great day!!!
@northernMike, It's kind of a trade-off right? You can get really consistent results growing the same strain over and over but then you have no variety! I'm getting wildly different results just using different breeders. My method is pretty static but yields are all over the place. Not mention some plants herming but not others in the same room (might have a cold spot).
Gah, Nashville ...we looked tired after the first period. Both goalies were unreal. Let's get the next one!
@@Louder,I get a lot of variety, but the consistency is not there, every plant seems a bit different than the one before. Next fall I'm going to grow some photoperiods with a couple autos just for some variety. I'll probably grow a couple of autos outside this summer, kinda plant and forget because I won't be home all that much.
Nashville tonight, should be a good game👍..
Later.
@Dilphoducus, you might have found a planet of the grapes pheno...I think that was listed as a pheno of member berry on the Ethos site. POTG is a parent in the 10th planet strain so that's probably where the similarities in aromas come from.
@Dilphoducus, I've still got a few beans of this 10th Planet and a couple Banana Daddy R1 left to run before I order Ethos again. So hard to choose. Got a fairly large order from the UK on the way (if royal mail comes through). Fingers crossed
