I’m pretty sure my girls are still recovering from my massive plant parent fail where I was actively starving them 😳🤦‍♀️ I’m actually very pleased with their continued growth even though I have tested them BIG time. There will no doubt be a few weeks added to our process bc of my errors but they are alive And I’ll take it!

@Spunky86, Just be careful not to overdo it! They can probably handle 200ppm or so? Hard to say because they haven't had much. But if you don't already have one, get yourself a $12 PPM meter from Amazon, and another $12 pH meter. When you get the pH meter, it will come with 3 packets to calibrate it. You just mix each with water and hold the button down while it is in each mix to calibrate it. It'll come with instructions -- but let us know if you need help calibrating or checking pH. The pH is probably the single most important number to know about your plants, and I would argue second most important is PPM/TD/EC (tells us the same thing -- how much nutrient vs. water in the solution). In DWC, you want the pH to be between 5.5-6.3, with 5.8 being generally the best for nutrient uptake. For PPMs, it isn't so straightforward. Autoflower plants can't handle as high nutrient mix as photoperiod. My autoflowers start at 50ppm the first week and go as high as 575ppm at the height of its lifespan. I don't know about photoperiods, but I know they can handle much higher PPMs -- upwards of 1300-1700ppm (again, I don't speak from experience regarding photoperiods). These two things, pH and PPM, will be your guides. Make sure you calibrate your pH meter every 2 weeks (at least). And if you haven't checked it out yet, go to GrowWeedEasy.com to find some guides on how to get started. That site was a godsend when I started. Cheers! 👍

I start adding nutes to my DWC after about 5-7 days. Some may say up to two weeks, but that’s pushing it in my opinion. CalMag is not enough after the first week. You’ll need to get at least some base nutrients (Bloom/Grow or Micro/Bloom/Grow) and start out light. With DWC, there are no nutrients like there are in soil. Even in soil, most growers add nutrients. Just gotta keep the PPMs on watch and not overdo it. Good luck with the grow!

@@Chi_Town_White_Boy, @Spunky86 regarding the PPM just watch the plants and you'll see if it's too little or too much until you find the sweet spot, every strain and even every plant can act differently, what's too much for one might be too little to the other. That being said, 200 is ok and the plant can take it, 1500-1700 might be too much, but like I said, it's not the same for every plant. start low and slowly increase until the deficiency is gone. Might be a good thing to do some research and reading about the subject too, to cover the basics

@Spunky86, if this is a photoperiod, then that might be good. I can’t really give good guidance on photoperiod PPM. Why don’t you ask a Grow Question about how many PPMs you should be at and how to best recover this plant? There are plenty of growers here who can lend their expertise!! @bobo420 @stick @athos @tazard < These guys may be able to throw out some advice!

@Spunky86, the 200 starting ppm is likely large molecule calcium used for stabilizing pH. With that said she cannot use it in other words if you want to feed her at 600ppm then only 400ppm would be usable to her but the 200 must be included for total ppm. Home Depot and Lowe’s both sell a Whirlpool RO system for about $150. This is highly recommended. Also if your local water company uses chloramine in place of chlorine then you will have problems with hydro growth and will need a RO system. I wouldn’t go over 800ppm max in flower. I run 600-800 (1.2-1.6 EC) this is from seed. My veg tank is 1.2. Throughout most of flower I’m around 600 except the last 2 weeks then I’m at 800. Give her pH water only for 1-3 days to flush unless you’re using a flushing agent. I’m using Advanced Nutrients Flawless Finish and I leave it in there for 3-7 days before the chop.

Thank you! I’ll do my week 2 update this evening. The girls have gotten some brown spotting on their leaves which I’m thinking might be a nute deficiency. 😔 added cal-mag and re balanced their systems ph ... fingers crossed for good results.

@Spunky86, Usually 5.7-5.8 for veg and you could go up to 5.9-6.0 for flower. I usually just tried drop it to 5.5-5.6 on a new res change and let it do what it wanted, which was go up slowly till it got near 5.6 and then I'd drop it down a bit depending on how long I was waiting before another res change. I can help guide a little , as Im no expert. But it's easier to have someone to ask instead of trawling through the web of misinformation.

@DWCKhaos, Oh that is wonderful to hear!!! Thank you for the advice! What would you say my targe Ph should be? Closer to 6.0 or even lower? I appreciate you and this comment more than you know.

@Spunky86, my first 2 times with DWC always started with the first 2 leaves after the initial round ones with spots on them, I wouldnt worry to much unless the next set of leaves or continues. If it's also on next set, keep ph a bit lower, and maybe raise lights a bit
