Ethos:
5 Strawberry Cookies OG R1
2 Cherry Diesel (testers)
My Custom Fem Seeds:
4 Buttermilk Biscuits x Garlic Storm
Wildeweed's Custom Fem Seeds:
3 "Elsa" x Godfather OG
3 "Elsa" x Platinum Gushers
3 "Elsa" x Blueberry Gum
Substrate: Pro Mix HP mixed with vermiculite #3 and DE
Fertilizer: Jack's Nutrients 3-2-1 + triple superphosphate
Lights: 320umol/s LED early on - 1300umol/s LED after first transplant - 3800umol/s array of LED lights for late vege and flower.
No soaking. Just straight into the substrate they go. In hindsight, should have soaked the older seed.
The first of two grows has started. Twenty seeds sown, but only 12 will be grown. I don't suffer weak plants. A 1020 tray is currently on a heat mat set to 76F. Should see sprouts within 2-3 days, and then I'll remove the dome, which delays irrigation a couple days beyond sprout.
Four will be trashed when I transplant to 1-gallon pots after 10 days above ground, give or take. Then another four will be trashed on final transplant to 5-gallon pots after 21-28 days above ground. At which point they'll migrate from 4x4 to 10x10 tent, and I'll get the irrigation system set up. Culling weak plants doesn't guarantee consistency in flower, but it sure does improve the probability. One or two duds isn't uncommon with 12 plants and won't ruin anything.
I want to find 2 strong Strawberry Cookies OG plants to breed. I have no interest in 'selfing' a plant. The results of selfing usually suck a big fat dick. Up to 4 plants, one each from the other strains, can tag along for some F1 hybrids. So, should have 5 new strains of fem seeds for 2025-2026, if all goes well. Second step would be to pair similar homebrew strains and create more F1 hybrids going forward while avoiding the genetic depression that comes with inbreeding.
Goals:
Improve canopy management to avoid over-crowding. Stick to the plan, dummy!
Shave 5-7days off vegetative phase.
Find some terpy plants for breeding.
Update - Well, all 6 of the ethos seed and 1 bbgs have germinated by 3 days. The other seeds are between 3 to 5 years old and are taking their sweet time. 7 of 20 after 3 full days. Expect the rest by tomorrow evening even if they are older seeds.
Continued Updates - 15 / 20 as of 3.5 days. The 3 year old seeds all popped. The 4-5 year old seeds are slowly sprouting. The first three i probably buried a bit deeper. Only had 1 shell-head and it was easy to pull off with no effort or prying open. +1 EBG, 16 of 20. This shell is a bitch and will need to wait for the cotys to push it open a bit before removal, but we got her removed. 17 sprouted out of 20 approaching 4 full days from planting.
At this point, the EGO seeds are starting to concern me, but it may just be a case of old seeds taking their time, or possibly not viable at a high percentage any longer. I'll update the below tally, but no more updates for germination. I planted the first 3 or so too deep. If they are viable, I'd expect them to sprout before 5 days. If not, 17 is plenty. Culling the 5 weakest will still be beneficial.
5/5 SOC
2/2 CD
4/4 BBGS
3/3 EPG
3/3 EBG
3/3 EGO
20 of 20
Day 7 above ground for the first 9 sprouts, give or take a half day. 24-36hours less for the 10 slower sprouts. Due to the age difference, 6 of the later sprouts got too much light too early while I tried to stop the stretch on the first 5-6 sprouts. User-error for sure, but that's why I plant extras. More than 12 are growing fine. The ones off to the side are recovering.
It's amazing how quickly they need more light and how sensitive they can be if you give it just a matter of hours too soon.
Fertigated twice at this point - pictures immediately following a fertigation. After using coco for 2 years, I can definitely say water absorbs more slowly with Pro Mix mixed with a healthy amuont of added vermiculite. No biggie. Will add a negligible amount of time to irrigation with small pots and by the time i get to the 5-gallons, the irrigation system will be setup.
So, some minor hiccups self-inflicted, but should resolve themselves quickly. Will level out all the plants when they are transplanted to 1-gallons. Up to 16 and no less than 12 will be potted-up. A few may fall too far behind to bother, but I'll give most the benefit of the doubt this early.
20th seed did sprout, but it was upside down and did not correct itself before the exposed tap root died.
Pretty boring early on and nothing interesting enough to warrant a ton of pictures.
Pictures immediately following a transplant and irrigation on day 12 from sprout of "oldest" plants. The rest are within 1-2 days of that.
This is a bit early, but a bigger light will provide more heat, which is good at the emoment. Also, RH% should benefit from a much larger surface area of evaporation from 1-gallon pots.
I should have left 1 of the Strawberry Cookies OG behind, but it doesn't cost much in effort or resources to let it tag along another 2-3 weeks. The funky looking plants off to the side last week did not improve, so it was easy to cast them aside, which is unfortunate. I have more of those seeds and may pop some next cycle.
13 plants:
5x SCO (4)
4x BBGS
2x CD
2x EGO
Expect the smallest SCO to be left behind next transplant. Also, the pots are labeled "SOC" and I'm not bothering to change it, lol. So, from now on it is Strawberry OG Cookies, lol.
Update: Adding pics for day 13 and 14 (if i remember) to show that transplant shock is a made-up boogeyman relative to potting up. A figment of people's imagination.
A little early, but I wanted to get some pictures posted before I top them tomorrow. I'll cut above 3rd node and remove bottom pair of axilla. I'll post some pictures on day 21 after topping the plants, and by week 4 they'll be in their final pots in the big tent.
Feeling better about growth since the transplant. I think I mixed the epsom at 1/2 strength in previous watering tank and possibly other parts were not as badly under-dosed.
All thirteen look strong. All the real duds were culled before the first transplant. There are 2-3 plants that are a bit smaller than the rest - mostly due to differences in sprout time, so it'll be splitting hairs as to which one is not transplanted.
Topped at end of day 19. All but 1 SCO had decent development of 'new' top pair of branches. In 5-7 days they'll be ready for a transplant.
Four weeks in the books. Transplants are done. Still need to set up the scrog. After the scrog is up, I'll allow the 4 branches of each plant to grow into position and top them for 8 colas per plant. I intend to take clones of some for breeding purposes, otherwise I'd prune off the growth of no use now rather than later.
The hard work is done. I can already see good growth less than 24 hours after the transplant. In the past I've always tried to do transplants earlier, but I'm liking the results of having a bit more patience. They were well-rooted in the 1-gallon pots but not looping around at bottom.
Just put the trainers on as I took some pictures. Some of the shorter plants may need a more direct path for growth to keep up with the taller plants.
So, I'll give these a minimum of 7 more days of vege growth. I may need a few more days beyond to increase success rate of clones taken. In either case, I should shave off 3-5 days of vege compared to normal, which was one of my goals. Flip to flower in 7-10 days.
35 days... All but 1 were topped and pruned a couple days ago except for growth reserved for cuttings. After 35 days took cuttings off 6 best plants as far as robust growth, so far - SCO1-2-4, CD1, EGO2, BBGS4. Need to train a little space between some colas and let them go vertical at flip to 12/12.
The bigger plants are ready, but 2 need more time. Think I mentioned it last week, I choose poorly on the '12th' plant. I should have kept the 5th SCO. This will be the smallest BBGS I've seen of those seeds. Thought I was taking the lower risk option. Damn you, meosis! Overall, it should average out well.
43 Total Days
4 Bloom Cycle Days
Flipped to 12/12 cycle after 39 days. A few days early and I probably could have flipped even sooner and still filled the space. As is, I'll potentially have to HST some of the taller plants, but a couple smaller plants will benefit.
These pics are right before an irrigation. Some plants are less perky than normal, but the bent over coals on left side are from me shaping the plant. You can also see on far right-back row I need some garden wire to spread out that plant and even it out relative to the rest of the canopy. It had a late growth spurt even before flip to flower. It was one of the smaller plants early on, but not anymore.
Bti dunk is suspended at water level in a mesh bag to keep irrigation pipes and tubing clear. I'll fertigate with less dryback going forward. All the root mass promoted by a more pronounced wet-dry cycle in vegetative phase will start to pay dividends.
Pictures of nute station and reservoir added. Rez is kept at mid-60F and dark at all times.
Plants were looking too lush the last ~2 weeks. I've reduced the caclium nitrate component nearly 20% the last 2 irrigations and continuing to do so going forward until i see a reason to revert. May need to adjust TSP portion to mitigate loss of Ca, but we'll see how the plants react the next couple weeks before assuming anything.
After a little more training on a couple plants, daily efforts will be reduced to virtually nothing but flipping a switch to water for ~3 minutes/day. About to hit my favorite 7-8 week period of the grow.
-------- Side note / yield expectations
I have a much more controlled canopy this cycle than recent grow cycles. This canopy is by far the best I've had in a couple years. I snapped a cola off one plant (oops), and one plant has 12 colas on accident, but will use that as a rough comparison for future adustments to canopy management / how many colas per plant etc. Only 4 days into flower phase and it's nearly filled in. Some gaps, yet, but even the smaller plant(s) should mostly fill it in. Only 1 plant is concerningly under-sized (front-far right). One of twelve isn't so bad.
Haven't been this happy about a grow cycle in several years. Minimum target of 50g/sq ft and 1.5g/w will be easy as pie to hit barring catastrophe out of my control, and upper-threshold of 60g/sq ft and 1.8g/w still achievable even with 1 under-sized plant. Relative to growing from seed, these are acceptable outcomes.
-------- New equipment....
Picutres show a lights off/on 24-hour cycle.
The previous dehumidifier could barely keep up with a 38-39 sq ft canopy - even required stripping a few leaves (~10% defoliation, give or take) that I'd rather not strip off in the future. This dehum should be able to keep up as it can remove 140% more moisture in AHAM conditions. It's a fucking 68-lbs beast. It's hygrometer reads 10% below actual, but it's a consistent offset, so that is not a problem going forward.
I'll know better in 3-4 weeks when the canopy is fully grown as far as performance compared to the previous unit. Should see some electricity savings and reduce peak temps a couple degrees F as long as it doesn't have to work as hard to accomplish its task. Plus, I can avoid removing leaves unnecesarily. Win-win-win
I'm not used to seeing the RH fluctuate so much in the graphs. The previous unit barely maintained max RH, so the "valleys" were truncated. It would cycle off due to autodefrost feature and not because it reduced RH% to a particular level as the current unit is currently doing as seen in the graphs.

Forgot about the cuttings. Added a picture. They are 8 days old. Vents were slowly opened further over time. Now, taking off the dome each day for an hour or two. Shouldn't be too long for roots to show. Some are already looking perkier as if they have some initial rooting but cannot be 100% certain.

First three pictures compare last ~3 weeks of growth.
Got the second scrog up. The taller plants are starting to grow through it. I've got 2 under-sized plants and a couple others that aren't quite hitting the scrog but significantly more robust than the 2 runts. Relative to variability of seeds, this is fairly consisent. These were arranged according to size, and you can see how early growth patterns are only correlated to future growth patterns. The back-left-most plant was one of the tallest, but now should be positioned somwhere in middle but on higher side of platform (2" slope across 8-feet). It still looks like a strong plant, just a bit stockier. The second from right in back row is the other runt. It should have been an endcap plant with the other runt. Otherwise, I did a good job getting the stronger plants under my DIY lights. I prefer the warmer spectrum, but I absolutely cannot notice a difference between 3300K and 2900K. I put weaker plants on the right, so it's an apples to oranges comparison.
I've been running a bit higher RH% this year. One outcome I definitely notice is a difference of how close my lights need to be to regulate growth. I used to stick around 18" and even that would cause some light damage at some point, but it would take weeks to show symptoms. Now, I need them closer to 14-16" to maintain proper growth patterns and no hint of light damage. This means i'm also getting more intense light deeper into canopy than previous years -- This bodes well. The non-DIY lights need to be an inch or 2 further away because the distribution of diodes is not as good.
Removed maybe 5% of canopy leaves below the first scrog primarily to keep foliage away from fertigation and to avoid trapping moisture from substrate. Above the first scrog I intend to remove the lowest axillary growth and the second lowest on some of the lankier plants. If you zoom in on the first couple pictures, basically the branches that are heavily shielded and have an excessively long inernode (i.e. weak growth). I'm not trying to create a single cola, but the whispy shit that can't hold itself in a few weeks will be pruned. I'll wait a few days to let them heal after the minor selective defoliation at bottom. I expect the slightly developed axilla above that to produce some decent bud. I may lollipop the lowest branches that are kept, too, but that can't happen until it develops more.
Cuttings -- See roots on a few of the cuttings. The perkier plants with greater turgor pressure likely have roots by now. The droopier ones are a less likely to have any developed roots, but not impossible, either. I'll transplant 5 of the healthiest of each pheno. I only need the 2 best strawberry cookies og, but I'll wait until bud sites to develop to throw out one of the three phenos. The strongest SCO will be a pollen donator to a different SCO pheno, EGO and BBGS. Once i find a good pairing the the SCOxSCO outcome, I'll make a proper F1 out of it.

Got a little pistil burn here or there. Probably left a bit too much axillary branching, but at this point I'm not going to cut the plants, if I can avoid it. Heh, can already see some trichomes in the macro shots.
Snapped a few stems while HST'ing the canopy and trying to salvage 2 with a little tape. LOL, I stopped HST'ing at that point. The circulation wind is impeding healing, but the leaves are not drooping, so there is hope.
Two plants are developing slower than the bulk of the canopy - of course one is the runt that will force me to run a 650w light a few extra days for the worst plant. Luckily both of the slower plants are under the same light. I expect the slower ones to have a 65-70 day flower phase. A couple plants also have slightly more developed bud sites, but will fall into the typical 56-63 day range along with the bulk of the canopy.
Probably another 10-14 days of strong vege growth remaining before it tails off. Even the runt is stretching up past the 2nd scrog, now. Feel content about the canopy. Coulld have lollipopped more, but rather leave a little extra than take too much off.
I think with the elevated RH compared to the past, I need to keep my lights a bit closer, as mentioned in recent weeks. I need to pound that into my head for next cycle to better avoid the excess stretch. I got a bit lazy about it this cyclle. At this point the lights are slightly too close due to limited vertical space. Will try to shorten up internodes the rest of the way, and accept that I'll cause some minimal damage doing so.
Rooted Clones:
Culled the cuttings down to fastest rooting plants. They have all exhibited a good amount of vegetative growth and ready to be potted-up. Three of the SCO2 pheno are clearly choosing not to root (3 in front of pictures). No big deal, as i have 2 SCO, 1 ego, 1 bbgs and 1 CD, so the breeding run is set. Once I transplant these into 1 gallon pots, I'll put the pollen donator into flower 7-8 days before the pollen receivers. Those last 3 may very well show roots, but that's the whole point of taking extras... No need to wait around for the slow ones.
Will to set up 3x3 tent ASAP to get the breeding cycle going. These will be pruned to 2 primary branches that will be heavily lollipopped. I want little to know axillary branching. That will allow for several hundred seeds each, and keep all 4 plants safely in the XS1500's 2x2 coverage.
Edit: the little SCO2 plant showed roots after i posted this.. typical. Threw out the other two. We'll see if i can eliminate 1 of the 3 phenos based on how they are currently developing, but the breeding cycle is starting sooner than later. It's not like i'm selecting from 100s of plants, so it really doesn't matter too much which 2 SCO I use.
Next Cycle:
In nearly 3 weeks I'll be planting next cycle's seeds. Need to decide on a full or half run for second cycle. MSNL Zoap x5 and Oreoz x5 are definitely going. BBGS as my typical filler for culling the weak. Also, thinking of some seedsman white widow or fem seeds from fellow growmies to fill it out. I prefer to avoid the "white label" breeders, but white widow has something nostalgic going for it.
A half-run would allow me to test a SOG cycle without altering the irrigation system and still fit in my early vege area and logistics of 24-day overlap with first cycle. The number of seedlings I'd have to plant for a full run SOG might be a problem and future breeding cycles would be problem for a SOG setup too. The pros and cons need to be weighed... A half-run SOG would figure out the necessary vege weeks required for appropirately sized plants, at the least.
pros:
save 40 days of electricty use - probably 15-20% savings in total electricity, which is roughly 200 USD saved.
more variety possible
finish before warm weather rolls in (better for resulting tent environment)
risk diversification with more plants
cons
breeding cycles are fucked
shit ton of seedlings needed to cull the weak
more equipment needed (minimal 1-time cost)
cull extra plants - can avoid genetic defects but tougher to identify the slow-growers / less optimal growth patterns.
some trial and error figuring out new logistics
Total days complete: 63
Flower phase: 24
So, 9 weeks are finished. A record of growth is shown in the first handful of pictures, then the current canopy, and then some macros of top colas and mid-level bid sites. The couple colored stigmata is due to wind from a fan. The cuttings taken a while back have been transplanted and topped. I've giving those a few days before I send the 'pollen-donator' to flower and the others will follow with a 7-day delay.
Was a bit antsy about bud development as I did not remove enough lower growth several weeks ago. Most of those worries are alleviated despite the excess larf. A couple plants in back row on left are developing some serious colas, or they are just faster developing flowers, we'll see over the next 2-3 weeks which is correct. The BBGS are typically heavy golf balls up and down the branches, and looks to continue that trend. The others look more like traditional bud formation and not negatively impacted by the excess larfy growth in a noticeable way at this point.
I did some things differently with early training and canopy management, so i wanted to err on the side of keeping too much axillary growth rather than over-stripping. This concern was unnecessary, as the plants grew larger than I needed to. So, I'll shorten up the vege phase another 4-5 more days next cycle.
There is a missing plant on the far left. It was popping a shit ton of nanners in the lower half of plant. No idea if it is genetics or the fact i had to do a 3-hour shift in light schedule -3 extra hours of darkness 1 night, followed by a 1-hour shift back to 7p-7a operation on 13/11 schedule - some painters needed to do some work. This may or may not have been a contributing factor, but one thing is for sure that plant had an inclination to hermie as the other 11 plants are fine.
It's amazing how close my lights can get while allowing a higher RH than previous years. I needed to reduce VPD from previous years a bit, and so far i'm liking the results. I was regularly 1.4-1.6 range in the past and now around 1.2-1.35 range during light cycle. It dips a bit below that after fertigation, but climbs back up shortly.
I reduced fertilizer concentration while maintaining existing ratios and canopy remains strong, if not slightly too lush. May need to drop it further over the next 2 weeks. With a bigger dehum, i've kept more leaves than in the past. The plants have actually shed some lower, shielded, aged leaves on its own. The plant knows better than us how many leaves it wants to maintain.
Total Days: 70
Flower: 31
Vege growth is stopped or very slow at this point. Might eke out another inch or two. I'll raise the lights as far as they can go soon (only 3-4" for the 650w light on right), but with the higher operating RH%, I've yet to see any pistil burn.
The light cycle shift to accomodate the painters definitely stressed 2 plants. One was removed. The second i am retardedly going to keep. I stripped off lower weak buds that had the nanners. Pruned a few weak axilla, too. The nearby plant pistils are lily white, so it should be fine. The pistils will be changing color soon, so that will no longer be a good way to assess the risk going forward.
Meh, I know it was caused by light stress, so any seeds not selfed I'll probably keep them.
Overall, I'm relatively happy with development. Need to adjust some procedures in next cycle and maybe a few more tweaks in winter 2025-1.
Second irrigation went well, but i did find a partially clogged emitter. Probably a plastic bit from hold-punching. With 8 emitters per pot, the overkill makes it irrelvant and the pot wasn't the slowest to finish. A few emitters has some roughly milled inlets. I'll inspect them all over the next couple weeks and replace some as needed.
Just realized my new dehum was glowing in my tent the entire time. Luckily the display was facing away but now has a cardboard flap blocking it. If it was fine before, it's even safer now. Photons had to bounce of a wall and travel 5' before it could hit any plant.

Early update before end of week upday:
So, I've been procrastinating replacing the irrigation setup. It's slowly gotten worse each year (3rd ongoing), but never had the dripper devolve into a dribble. I've been hand-watering 1 or 2 pots the last week or so. Replacing the mini sprinkler heads only fixed 1 of the problem-pots. Think the fittings are leaking on the one that did not improve.
All the pvc is gone. All the 1/4" manifolds and tubing are gone. The per plant adjustable nonsense is the worst idea ever as all it does is cause pressure changes and endless tweaking of all the little sprinklers, because changing one impacts all the others, or a speck of dirt might cause a new imbalance that requires adjustments etc - Fucking nightmare of useless repetitive behaviour.
Still have the 3/4" ID lead-in, heavy duty, 450psi graden hose with ball shut-off valve and pressure regulator. That is now connected to a 3/4" wye with two 1/2" irrigation tube adapters attached to each end. This forms a loop around the pots with a 1/2" tee per pot that leads to a gate shut-off valve and eight 2-gph pressure compensating emitters - 96 in total.
Will do first test run on Sunday.
The great thing is that this is all plug and play when I switch to injectors. That'll require some sort of pvc manifold and check valve at the utility tub, but otherwise just connect hose, and it's golden. That's the next step. I'll also re-incorporate the wifi-enabled solenoid valve at that point. Getting rid of the 55-gallon reservoir and pump would be nice. One less thing to maintain (rez) and less things that can break down (pump / powerhead).
------ Sunday Test
Flawless first run. Time will tell if they are resistant to clogging, but optimistic at this point. 18psi operational pressure at the irrigation loop. Didn't even need the regulator. The mesh strainer at the pump intake doesn't have the typical, small air-bubble, so the last setup was letting a little air in. The last setup was fatally flawed. Pressure compensating emitters for the win. They didn't even squirt wildly as the air was expelled from empty tubing on first run.
Took ~4mins or so. Some pots finished a bit sooner, but that's because they don't drink as much per 24 hours. I can live with that kind of waste. I'll get the timing down to reduce water usage even further. I don't need to wait for every pot to exhibit runoff as that is beyond 10% runoff needs. Might be able to get 4 fertigations before refilling reservoir instead of 3. We'll see. I don't like the minimum ~12-15 gallons sitting over night. It fouls the reservoir faster at low volumes.
Anyway, super geeked. They better not clog easily, lol....

Expected a bit more plump on the left side of platform, but just over 5 weeks into flower the pace is fine. I've been dialed back to 1.2EC (excludes tap) for many weeks. The plants are a bit too lush and slowly trending further in that direction. I just topped off and fertigated, so if i add 10-12 gallons of fresh water back in it'll be about 75-80% of 600ppm. It's about time for a rez cleaning. If i have to revert, it gives a good reason to dump it and start fresh.
Breeding cycle pics will move to "The Garden 2024-2025 Part 2." Initial application of STS on male was a couple days ago. The pollen-receivers will join after a 7-day delay. I'll be trimming those down to 2 colas and give a few days to heal before heading to 12/12.
Total Days - 83
Flower nights - 44
2-3 plants look like the 65-70 day variety - bit slow for my preferences but also look to be heavier yielders, which helps me feel better about it. The bulk will be 60 days, give or take, as usual. And 1 plant looks like it's in a race to finish ASAP and won't take much longer than 50 days, if that. I have not scoped it, yet, but the calyxes are about as fat as they can get at FD 44.
Further diluted the reservoir to 75% concentration for the fertigation tonight. I definitely let the canopy get too lush and was too hesitant to drop nutes sooner. I am not 'flushing' the plant. I have a buildup occuring in the plant and appropriately reacting to it, albeit 7-10 days late. It is a slow moving problem and of no concern. It has not caused any lockout or any real damage. The leaves are just too dark and trending the wrong way very slowly.
A couple pics show the 'fast' plant. The buds are not that impressive, but that tends to go hand in hand with the fast developers. The slower plants are worrisome, as 70 days is pushing boundaries of fucking up my schedule. These are all strawberry cookies og, but not all of the strawberry cookies og are as slow. I don't do things that delay flower, so I rarely see plants take that long. Hopefully, they kick it into gear and finish fast. I don't like plants that take longer than 63-65 days.
Total Days: 91
Flower Nights: 52
A BBGS plant with small buds is done. 10-15% amber alll over. I'll be chopping that down in the next few hours. The runt of the group is close behind. A couple others might finish around 60 days. A large chunk of this crop is going to take forever, lol. I'm not a fan of slow plants. You can see which ones by the "long" white pistils and limited plump of the calyxes at day 52. At the very least most are beginning to plump up. Took a bunch of mid-level bud shots, too.
Made an absent-minded mistake when i mixed up my STS for the breeding cycle. I used softened water instead of distilled water. This would greatly impact resulting concentration and may have just wasted 3 weeks of my time and 5 clones. If the donor plants take 70 days or more to finish, I'm not feeling too bad about it. It gives me a reason to do a breeding run with this cycle's plants. Rather not push into Spring, but shit happens. All hope is not lost for a few pollen sacs, but at this stage of development i mostly see white hairs. I've never had a plant not convert. so that's new. Inviable pollen has happened, but the plants have always converted near 100% to male. I've never seen so many pistils on the sts-applied plant before.
I will be pissed if the strawberry and cherry plants have great flavor and I have nothing to show for it once the buds are smoked. Either way, moving on from Ethos to something new next year. Some of their plants have been great, and some have been disappointing - the free testers were mostly trash and grandpa's stash was nothing like the description.
Sick of breeders focusing on the most superficial traits instead of how it tastes when it smokes. That should be the only thing they are focusing on.. not shape of leaves or some unique smell that doesn't translate to smoke. This is the problem of a market driven by maximizing sales to the mob. Useless shit becomes important.

Seven plants remain. Two or three are done within days. Two or three are done within a week. At least one is a week or more away.
The floppy plants are bunched up, so I'll be harvesting those at first sign of amber on an upper level bud below top colas. The ones standing up, or otherwise well-spread out, I'll wait for a bit more amber to be seen. Nearing the end. Lots of things going on at the same time - Harvesting, breeding cycle is about to dump pollen, and the next crop is a week away from transplants and moving to the big tent. which means cleaning up the 4x4 area and packing it up for the year. Will remove 1 diy 240w light from big tent and shut down the FC4800 from the 4x4 - Monthly electric bill will be about less going forward.
Drying area is even better than previous years. Humidifier still set at 60% but I've been able to manipulate the room temperature down a few more degrees relative to house thermostat. This should push drying times from 9-10 days up to 12-14 days. So far, this is looking true even with the smaller buds from the first plant harvested. Mesh bags are clean, cleaned off the 2-way boveda packs, and sealable buckets are ready.
Same as before.. Though for the first time the BBGS plants were not the best of the crop. Nugs are solid, but 2 of them were on the small side of yield. One is very small.
This one finished in 52 days. The weak growth at the bottom needed a bit longer, but the well-formed buds along the branches i cared about were all 10-15% amber. Super easy trim. Despite feeding 1/2 strength for a bit now, these leaves are clearly too lush, but the plant smells good and well-formed otherwise.
More BBGS plants need to be harvested - this is just the first. If i can't update this week or add another, oh well, fuck if I care, lol.
This first one is the 2nd weakest of the bunch.
Overall, Ethos has been mostly hit with a couple misses. The tester seeds of "pie face" crosses were all misses - 2 hermied. Of the seeds I bought, only Grandpa's Stash was a let down and the consitency of Banana Daddy was not ideal. Hoping the Cherry Diesel testers turn out well. If not, I'll never run an ethos 'tester' ever again... just straight into the trash, lol. Really wish I got some seeds from the banana daddy / banana hammock, but that 'fem' pollen turned out inviable. Both had some good plants arise, though one 'daddy' grew like shit - twiggy buds. I have some seeds from 2 Grandpa's Stashes, of course... but not much motivation to plant them.
Chopped a couple BBGS plants, too. One was the smallest plant in the room. One got floppy as fuck but yielded really well, like the SCO. BBGS4 and SCO1 were a pain in the ass, but that was user-error. I did not set the 2nd scrog up high enough.
EDITs:
SCO2 added after 65 flower nights / SCO3 also chopped, but no pics. Last update for SCO. They all have that purple with red hues. All have a good smell with hints of strawberry.
Continued issue with top-heavy plants flopping around. A reminder everyday to re-tool how it is hung. All but one are showing at least hints of amber trichomes at this point. So, 4 more coming soon. One has turned on the jets at least in regard to calyxes plumping, at least. I plan for 70 day flower to be safe, but rarely actually go that long. If slow to show some amber, it's going into overtime.

One more to go... The last Strawberry Cookies OG will come down soon. It's been popping nanners, but luckily at this stage there is nothing receptive to pollen. All the pistils are dead and not enough time for anything to develop.
Breeding Cycle update - Thank christ there is some pollination, and I can see pollen when I agitate the plant over the others. Should get plenty of SCO x SCO seeds and SCO x CD. I mistakenly removed EGO i think, which might be the 2 best plants of this cycle, whoops. I only need 20 or so seeds to feel comfortable and shoudl far exceed that. The future F1 made from the SCOxSCO and yet-to-be-determined is important to get 100s or 1000s of seed - not to sell but so that i can be aggressively wasteful culling weak plants.
I made sure to stick to keeping the strongest plant regardless of whether I bought it this time (to some extent), and it was worth it. Even removing 1 of the plants i should be over 50g/sq ft which is the minimum goal. Still had 2 weak plants, but the rest are each thoroughly filling up a 36" rack.
Almost done. Three more plants to go. Will do the "EGOs" tomorrow.
I'm not going to wait long on the SCO4. Once plump, that last plant is coming down fast. Transplants for next cycle need to be done and every day delays flip to flower. I'll give it 5-7 days after transplant and flip.
