Gorilla glue put in soil 12/27, popped soil two days later on 12/29 later than the other two seeds. First-time leaves 1/1/2023. During this time I misted 2x daily. Happy to see growth.
Growing nicely. Getting 1st true leaves and .5 "tall. Misting 2x per day. Day 7 started 50 ml water today. To get humidity up for the seedlings, I put a bowl of water, small humidifier, and 2 wet towels (recommended by @GrowingGrannie). I have to rewet the towels at night to maintain rh above 45%. Mostly around 60rh now.
With 3 seedlings in the tent, each opening on consecutive days, I will now refer to day in tent for consistency in discussion.
Day 12 in tent watering with 50 ml water once in the morning. Showing 2nd set 3 fan leaves grew .5 inch this week.
Gorilla glue is growing at a slower pace than the other gals. She has grown .5 inch this week. I attribute this to being in the back of the tent, light intensity was less and as a result soilt temps also lower. 3 fan leaf set and a 5 leaf in the works.
Day 17 increased water to 175ml and day 19 increased to 250ml.
Day 21 she is 2 inches.
Wednesday she is staying short still 2.5 inches. Based on other tent companions, shei estimate she will be shorter than the other 2. Now 3.5 inches tall. Started fertilizer on Monday day 22 in soil 1/4 strength of big bloom and grow big. Increased water to 750 ml
Day 24 750 ml water
Day 25 2.5 inches
day 26 3 inches
Day 27 3.5 inches. Water and fertilizer 1.5 liters.
Day 28 gorilla Glue is a slow grower ( only 1.5 inch ) compared to the other 2 in tent, regardless she is healthy and happy.
At 3 full weeks of veg, my plants are 3 different heights 9, 7 and 3.5 inches, should I raise the lights from 16 inches to encourage more vertical growth? Typically, how far apart should the nodes be?
I don't know about the Purple Chill but I myself am growing both a Gorilla Glue and an OGKush in the same tent and can tell you they're very different plants in terms of height and structure.... They're both almost 6 weeks old now and the OGKush is a monster I've had to keep in check while Gorilla Glue is a little tamer, a little more "ladylike"... (it's my "Next UP" diary).
What I would do is start LSTing them now - get the taller ones down to somewhere close to where the Gorilla Glue is in terms of canopy and consider Scrogging all of them when they start into flower.. That's going to be your best bet for keeping them all in sufficient light and not have OG and Purple crowding out the light on GG...
Nodes on indica dominate strains are fairly close together - certainly much closer together than on sativa strains ... raising the lights would encourage more stretch but that is their natural growth pattern ... I would still hold those two monsters-in-waiting to let GG keep up with them...
Good luck!
Thanks for stopping in for a visit. Please hit the like button if you like what you see, and I'll visit your plants. Gigi is growing slowly, staying short like indicas do. She is now 7.5 inches and I'm keeping the light within 10 inches of her crown.
End of the week, growing slow and steady 11 inches tall. drinking under a liter a day. Defoliated on day 33 and began running dehumidifier as the tent seems to stay above 60%
Growing steady about .5 inch in 3 days, slower than the other tent gals. GiGI is strong getting bigger every day. She 12.5 inches. Drinking about 1100 liters per day.
End of the week, GiGi Gorilla Gluer On Thursday she got all gussied up for her girls' night out with her gal pals. Check her out. Shes a beauty. She is petite and her crown is even and dense.
Day temps range from 76-80 with humidity between 45-61%.
Night temps 73-81 with humidity 54-89. I can't get this down using a small dehumidifier. I will be leaving the tent open for a few nights to see if I can get the temp and humidity down.
Well the Natrona sisters, Olga, Penny and Gigi, got all dressed up real pretty for the @Fastbuds Valentine's party. They had on their sparkly prom dresses, necklaces and flowers in their hair. So pretty for their first night on the town. My girls came home heart broken 💔 as the bouncers wouldn't let them in.
Day 47
Still having trouble keeping humidity down at night. I will try dry ice soon. Cool the tent without raising humidity. Also I will be leaving the tent open with 18/6 lights. I had to raise the lights as high as they would go due to her rapid and steady growth.
beginning week At 15 inches tall she sits farthest from the light. Raised the light the highest it will go.
End of week 19 inches tall 18 inches from light. This should help her stretch.
Temperature and humidity have been a problem.
Tried a bowl of ice packs, dry ice 15# ( evaporated within 24 hrs. expensive $30 for one day.) I'm sure my gals got benefit of C02. Didn't work.
Tent full open and partial pen at different times of day. Minimal changes in either temp or RH.
I ordered a personal A/C unit to bring down temps, i fear that it will continue the humidity issue . hope fully it will come in soon.
This week is closing with mixed feelings. I ordered a small air-conditioning unit at the beginning of the month to cool the tent and reduce the humidity. Well no shipment has arrived yet. So I called the company, they cancelled the order because they are out of stock. There was no inventory at the manufacturer 😮. So my 3 girls have continued to endure high temperatures mid 70s to low 80s in the day and mid 70s at night lights off with humidity high 50-60%.
I did the final trim start of 3rd week of flower per @Legacy market place you tube and GD tutorials and fed immediately after. To counter brown tips, I reduced ppm to 850 for this feeding. 2nd feed was Wednesday with ppm at 900.
Week 10
Last week I did the final deformation day 20 in flower. Recovered nicely despite my struggles with high heat and humidity. So basically I keep the tent really open during the day and vented at night. There small ac well, it blew cool air but not enough to reduce Temps. So these gals are doing their very best all things considered.
Gigi is the shortest at 21 inches. She will not grow any taller. Herbuds are stacking and fattening up. The top bud is about an inch and half. My arms are getting a bit sticky when I pull the girls out. That's a good sign. The tent room is carrying a heavier mixed scent too. Based on the see info I should be looking at end of this month harvest.
Im going to call this reset week. My plants have had a month of veg and about a month and a half in flower. Thus far I've over fertilized, have too much heat from the lights and haven't been able to control humidity. A month was wasted waiting for a small air conditioner from the manufacturer. I finally called only to find out they had NO inventory. I ordered a similar one off Amazon, which arrived within a week. Unfortunately it did only reduced the heat in the tent by a degree or two. Following that, I tried dry ice to reduce temps without raising humidity. 15# evaporated in less than 24 hours at a $30. I added another fan and keep the tent open during the day.
My day temperatures range from74 to 82 with the day RH range of 39-51%. The higher humidity occurring after watering.
My night Temps range from 72-77 and rh from 40-54%
So today Mar 8 (day 74) I decided to flush the ladies with 1 gal of water each. Hopefully reduce nutrient toxicity in the soil and plants. Also I'm reducing lights from 18 hours to 14 hours since the lights give off heat and I'm crisping my girls. I am hoping for a yield that is average considering the struggles I've put them thru.
3/9 Made my mini antennas today 1 for each plant. See week 5 cannabis links diary for more on Electro culture
3/10 flushed another gallon of filtered water thru each plant. gals got another and photo session today. The Trichomes forming are clear and opaque but no amber
keep tent open during the day
day 72 hairs turning yellow
Day 73 Feed 1 tsp per 2 gal
Day 74 reduced Light schedule to 14 hrs on 10 off
Day 74 Flushed each plant with 1 gal of filered water
Day 74 & 75 working on my antennas for energy accumulation
Day 75 placed antennas
Day 76 flushed each plant with 1 gal of water
Night 76 - since I reduced light hours, the girls lights out is 9:00pm. Put them in the garage at night
garage temps are ~ 60f so the drop in temp will induce purple or other color profiles.
garage is not light proof so they will not be in complete darkness
So how was this week.
Major changes:
Turned lights to 14 /10 to reduce heat on the plants and reduce burning the tips.
Keep tent open during the day to reduce humidity and temperatures using 2 fans. Temps range from 76 -78 with rh 43 - 46%.
Put the plants in the garage at night. This greatly reduces night temperatures also we have been having colder than normal weather. The night temperatures ranged from 53-58 & rh 41-51%.
I continued to flush with a gal of water for each plant on day 79. This is because I've been over feeding and thought this could reduce the in plan nutrient stores. Responses to my last question revealed that I have a cal mag problem. I go to our local hardware / garden store that I know carries cannabis fertilizers. No they did not have any cal mag solution. Order came in yesterday at the end of the week.
Day 81 fed 1 tsp tiger bloom per gal ( used 2 gal for all plants). Ppm was at a very low 410. This is much lower than the recommended feeding range but they have been getting too much.
Day 82. Normally I would not water as the pots still had weight to them, but the cal mag came in so I made up 2 gal with 2 tsp fox farm cal mag and fed their usual water amount.
👏
Based on the seed info, it looks like I'm within a week or two from harvest.
Thank you for the visit, I appreciate the love and encouragement and leave a like or a comment 😘
See you next time ✋
Well this is week 13, my ladies are coming into their own. The smell from the tent is getting heavier. I'm going to start the flush process with cold water every other day for 10 days followed by 2 days of darkness to fatten the buds.
I'll continue putting my plants in the garage where night temperatures are generally 15 degrees colder than the daytime tent temperatures.
I've accepted that this is not an optimal grow despite giving them what they needed...light, heat, water, and food..perhaps other than the light schedule, nothing was optimal. My set up was pieced mealed together based on what some of my local friends had done without researching further. I have ordered a new tent kit from AC Infinity ( Thank you @GrowingGrannie and @Ex_Alchemist for sharing your opinions). Once I complete this grow, I'll clean out this tent setup, put down poly over more of the floor. Then set up the second tent. I'll use the smaller tent for dry cure and maybe my vegetables in the winter time. Hope the AC Infinity kit will provide the optimal growing conditions.
Since I'm finishing this grow I would like to take this opportunity to give big thanks to this GD community for likes, comments, follows and all encouragement and love ❤️ vibes. Also I've enjoyed meeting new friends here. I look forward to meeting many more😊.
Shout out to my mentor Andrew @Legacy Market Farms who recently advanced to Guru 👏👏. Congrats 🎉.
Week 14 days 92-98. I've reduced the light cycle from 18 to 14 hours to reduce heat stress. It may reduce yield as well based on comments I've read in other growers diaries. An oz per plant would be nice. Of course more would be better but an oz makes a pound of cannabutter. Reducing the light hours is reducing the purpleness in the stems of og kush and gorilla glue but Purple chill still has purple stems
The Natrona sisters spend their nights in the garage where the temps are 10-15 degrees cooler than in the day temps in the tent. Night temps ranged this week between 63-66 with rh 51-76%. The high rhythm comes after a rain.
During the day, I'm keeping the tent open while circulating 2 fans. Day Temps can reach 80 so it gets hot in there. This week 75-79 with rh 43-55%.
Sunday day 92 watering, instead of limiting to the normal consumption amount, I flooded each plant with 1 gal of water with 1 tsp cal mag and 1 tsp tiger bloom.
Tuesday 94 used up my tiger bloom 4 tsp in 3 gal and 3 tsp cal mag ( water amount is for 3 plants)
Thurs 96 3 tsp cal mag in 3 gal.
Saturday flooded each plant with 1 gal of water. From here forward I will be flushing all plants with filtered water at 1 gal for each plant every other day.
This week has been about the trichomes.
Using an Ankylin 1000x wifi microscope camera, trying to get a close up of them. What an ordeal! I need at least 5 hands to take pics that have any clear image. Oh and an additional person to recessuitate me after passing out from holding my breath to minimize hand shake.
How many are clear, milky, amber?
Well from the photos most are milky at 98 days with 5-10% amber if that many. As I'm now flushing them in preparation of harvest, I can only hope they ripen up in the next week.
Week 15 days 99-105 . I'm am flushing all plants with 1 gallon of filtered water each. I've reduced the light cycle from 18 to 14 hours to reduce heat stress. It may reduce yield as well based on comments I've read in other growers diaries. An oz per plant would be nice. Of course more would be better but an oz makes a pound of cannabutter. Monday, flushed with 1 gal of water. Starting this flush, I added ice to the top of the soil before watering. See photo.
This is a stress technique used to force plant phenotype colors. I don't think it will work for mine as I over fed. While I have 3 different strains, they look the same with blue green dominance.
Thursday, flushed with 1 gal of water. Starting this flush, I added ice to the top of the soil before watering. See photo
Saturday, flushed with 1 gal of water. Starting this flush, I added ice to the top of the soil before watering. See photo
Sunday photos
I'm not seeing any change in leaf or bud colorations from flushing out the fertilizers nor from the ice treatment.
General comments"
After putting the plants in the garage during the night, morning soil temperatures are within a degree of the night air temperature. This has been about 15 degrees cooler (50s) than the tent temperatures (75+). This week our weather has been unseasonably warm so the night temperatures have been 63-71 with Rh 51-70%
Tent temps in the day 75-80 and RH 47-59%.
Special thanks to @DreamIT for showing me how to add music to video. Check out my Gigi video above for a short clip.
Week 16 Happy Easter week. 4/9-15/23
Flushing, nights in the dark with cold feet.
This is week 2 of flushing before the harvest.
Sunday I flushed each plant with 1 1/2 gal of filtered water after layering ice the top of the pots. After flushing they were just put in the room not in the tent. I had an ocsellating fan moving on a medium speed. Moved to the garage for the night.
Tuesday flushed each plant with 1 1/2 gal of filtered water after layering ice the top of the pots. After flushing they were just put in the room not in the tent. I had an ocsellating fan moving on a medium speed. Moved to the garage for the night.
FOUND BUGS ON PURPLE CHILL. Harvest is moved to this weekend rather than next Tuesday as planned.
Wednesday all three plants were put in the dark room put ice on top of the pot.
No further flushing will be done.
Thursday, Friday, Saturday. Lights remained off Temp 73. Rh 71% when I opened the dark room. The dark room has black out curtains, however there is l8ght exposure around the edge of the curtain.
Saturday afternoon photos taken pre cut, tricomes photographed as best I could. Additional hands are Required as I must take 50 pictures only to get 5 acceptable ones. Cut from the base of her stem , weighed and hung in the tent in the dark with a small fan . The drying has begun. Wet harvest weight 253 grams 8.9oz.
April 15-19 Hanging in dark room with temperatures ranging from 73-77f Rh 49-74.
April 20 - 22 Hanging in dark room with temperatures ranging from 71-77f Rh 50-80. The higher humidity is a result of turning the home a/c off during the night.
Since its drying time and not much to say.
I decided to locate photos of the same plant at day 20 of flower when I did the last heavy defoliation and side by side comparison to the day of harvest. I don't know if this is a normal harvest or small yield for OG Kush. See last pic in week 16.
She will be drying for 2 weeks or so. I have been checking the stem stiffness or bendiness since the humidity fluctuates. It does not snap yet.
Gorilla Glue, aka Gigi was easy to grow. She was short and stocky, only 21 inches. Her strong stems supported buds. She was the furthest from the lights and showed no cal-mag deficiency. While she drank the least water, she generally weighed heavy.
