Modified Grow Tent Frame for a 60x60x80 (in) / 150x150x200 (cm) grow tent.
I ditched the flimsy poles in my grow tent and now use wire shelving used for restaurants to support the tent itself. Only the top shelf is installed on each of the 18 racks, then the 24 inch shelf sits in top of the other 18 inch racks to form a metal canopy of sorts. I installed various sized hanger rails for stability. This allows for serious weight to be hung inside the tent including a cooling fan setup right above my LED quantum bars. Plus the shelving has endless locations to tie/fasten/strap/hang items like extension cords, oscillating fans, tools, sensors, etc.
Installing the exhaust fan ON THE TOP of the tent was no problem with the shelving in place. I literally set in on top of the shelf and secured it using plastic ties. No more hanging the freaking fan.
Cost (in USD not including shipping. I did not want to play loose with the metric length conversions here):
- 24" Hanger Rails - 4 USD / EUR (quantity 4)
- 18" Hanger Rails 3 USD / EUR (quantity 8)
- 60" Hanger Rails 20 USD / EUR (quantity 2)
- 18"x 60" Wire Shelf 29 USD / EUR (quantity 2)
- 24"x 60" Wire Shelf 35 USD / EUR (quantity 1)
- 74" Posts (4 pack) 12 USD / EUR (quantity 2)
Total cost is 195 USD / 183 EUR not including shipping costs, which seems pricey considering I paid slightly less for the entire tent. BUT, the original frame supported 150 lbs / 70 kg on a good day, and these shelves are rated 450 lbs / 200 kg when correctly assembled as a full shelving unit. I think I can go 250 lbs / 110 kg if needed as a partially (incorrectly) assembled shelving unit. Obviously this setup is probably not condoned by the manufacturer. I will be adding two more LED setups in a few weeks.

Really awesome man. I always felt the bigger tents needed something like this, Hopefully the manufacturers will begin to do something similar as at least an option for more serious growers. @yassinupup@MarsHydroLED
WoW just a beautiful setup 😍 I'm in the middle (two years in) of building a 250 ft² growroom and this is giving me some great ideas to consider when I get to the actual setup out there 😀 thanks a bunch for sharing this stuff 👍
My health and finances are both pretty poor so I am slowly getting the room done. I'm at wiring now so I'd say I'm halfway there 🤞🤞 maybe by the end of the year 🤞🤞
Share any progress you make on that room! I enjoy building the grow spaces almost as much as I enjoy farming that weed. I added 2 branch circuits to a dedicated grow room at the last home that I owned. Branch circuits 100% worth it.
I love this! I'll bee keeping an eye on your experiments with custom build grow spaces. I am almost certainly going to be trying my own custom space in a couple of months so I will watch with interest your inventions.
@Tweezer, oh yeah. An oscillating fan hanging anywhere along the top of the tent is no problem. Cable management is hella easy. I hang 3 box fans bolted together to cool the lights. I get a good amount of draft just from those box fans and am going to buy a cheap anemometer soon to measure that.
Very nice, is there somewhere in particular you found the poles/ shelfing to purchase? Thanks and happy growing! I make my own tents but have been reduced to using 3/4” pvc piping and connections for my frames and as you can imagine, flimsy as eff.
@NegotiatedBubble, Very nice, thank you Don't mind if I do, this would work perfectly. Certainly seems to be the next thing I need to work on things do get hotter than I'd like sometimes.
@Ultraviolet, by all means "Steal This Book" my friend. I have not updated yet, but I cut a round hole in the top of the tent and have the exhaust fan sitting over the box fans to improve air flow. Fan is ducted to the intake of my dehu as recommended by Quest Climate engineering blog.
