I’ve grown a variation of Gorilla Glue before, but never the GG4 strain from Ganja Farmer. I’m excited to add this back to the tent. On Sunday, I added three seeds to the soak with RO water and a small amount of seaweed extract. Cups are sitting on a heat mat. I will soak for at least 24 hours before sowing into a solo cup filled with coco coir.
I plan to Quadline this plant to keep her short. I also plan to experiment by using sub irrigated planters….either an Octopot or a GroBucket. I evaluating the two options currently and I have both systems in my grow room ready to go. Regardless of which method I use, I am also switching to coco coir this grow.
WEEKLY UPDATES
-Sunday night - soak seeds in seaweed RO water
-Tuesday - 36 hours later, I removed three sprouted seeds and placed them in coco coir. Watered them in with RO water and seaweed extract. Now we wait for them to pop above the soil.
-Thursday. two sprouts already!! That was fast! I’m growing more seedlings than I need since coco coir is relatively new to me and I’m likely to kill off a plant or two.
ABOUT THE STRAIN
Description of Gorilla GG4 - Ganja Farmer Seeds
Gorilla is a famous strain which comes from a sunny area of the west coast of the USA. It joins Sour Dubb, Chem Sis and Chocolate Diesel genes. Due to its potent features, it's also called Gorilla Glue (after a very strong American all-purpose glue). It has a brutal power and an extraordinary ability to produce resin which made it popular and appreciated by users all over the world and ensured it a place in the Ganja Farmer Seeds catalogue of the best marijuana strains. Gorilla GG4 is a Sativa/ Indica hybryd reaching up to 160 cm of height. The plant produces quite a huge number of thick and hard buds. Its resin production is just out of this world! The tops literally stick to fingers. The effect is brutal which doesn't come as a surprise due to its THC consentration equal 27%! That makes the plant one of the most powerful marijuana strains. Its efect is balanced, it elates and glues to the sofa.

Feeding with RO water….with seaweed extract and a small amount of CalMag and Micro. Using a sprayer to mist the plants and coco coir.
On Sunday, I added a little more coco coir to the two solo cups with “lanky” plants. (Top row…..middle and right). Misted with nutrient water.
On Tuesday, moved to tent so that I can increase humidity. Running light at 18” above plants and 20% power today. I plan to increase power to 30% later this week. Added oscillating fan and light breeze to strengthen stems. I am planning to run the humidity around 75% and the temperature around 75 degrees hopefully.
Friday, end of week. Two of the three seedlings are almost ready for transplant into one gallon pots. I will dispose of the runt.
It’s Saturday, so it’s the beginning of another week. I anticipate moving at least one seedling into a one gallon pot. I will remove the runt seedling on the right. GG4 is the top row of seedlings.
Daily Updates:
Saturday, I decided to move the largest GG4 into a one gallon pot. I only plan to keep one. I removed the two smallest seedlings from the tent on Sunday.
Thursday. Check out how much faster the one gallon is growing. Potting up does make a difference.
Transplanted into GroBucket using Coco Loco medium.
I’m experimenting with this GroBucket for the first time. Coco is new to me too.
Topped above the fifth node. Removed bottom nodes which would just produce larf anyway.
She’s growing great in the enclosed GroBucket system. This has been easy……I am preferring the use of coco over soil too. (No gnats).
I wonder about the long term potential for salt buildup at the root zone, and no ability to flush the system in these 5 gallon buckets. Time will tell if this approach works well for entire grow, but so far it’s been simple.
I am not doing any top watering at all. All water is provided by the water reservoir in the base of the 5 gallon Gro bucket.
On Saturday, I moved her from a dedicated 2x2x4 tent due to height concerns. Now in a 2x4x6 tent. She’s on the left.
By Thursday, they’re up to 15” tall and drinking a lot!
Week 5 of vegetative began on Saturday.
Between the two different strains I’m growing, the Ganja Farmer Gorilla GG4 is responding the best to the GroBucket, coco medium and Lucas formula.
So far she is growing very quickly.
I plan to flip soon before they get too large for these 5 gallon buckets. Since one gallon base of the bucket is reserved for water, this is really only a 4 gallon pot of soil.
Flowering will be the real test for these GroBuckets.
Plants have reached 18” in height, so I’ve decided to flip. I’m not doing any plant training other than a little topping, so I expect to see some tall plants soon enough. I also trimmed the lower branches last week.
The Gorilla GG4 is responding great to the Grow Buckets and Lucas Formula.
Updated photos on Friday….end of week 1 of 12/12. I’ve had to raise my led lamps a few inches due to growth.
Continuing to feed Lucas formula daily. She’s taking almost one gallon per day of nutrients. Feeding at maximum recommended formula along with 5ml of CalMag per gallon.
Wednesday….Wow, are these girls stretching! Almost out of vertical space unless I’m willing to remove the inline filter.
Beginning of week….The GG4 grew another 7 inches last week. She’s now within 10 inches of the led lamp. Hoping I don’t need to remove the inline filter to make room. Stretch should be almost over. On Sunday, I trimmed off the bottom third of the plant and selectively removed some fan leaves. I have done nothing special for this plant other than a little defoliation on the bottom third of the canopy.
End of week….This strain has been very resilient. While I’m new to coco and these GroBuckets, it’s taken my most-likely mistakes and grown very well. I wish I had quadlined her and trained her better. Growing in a 2x4x6 tent….trying to decide a favorite training technique. Quadlining and SCROG are worth repeating in my opinion as they provided a very even canopy under the lights. My lack of training here resulted in an uneven canopy.
Next grow I’ll try another Ganja Farmer strain and use Quadlining again. It adds a few weeks of veg, but really delivers on providing a lot of buds in an even canopy.
Starting to lose some leaves…but not many. I don’t see it as a major issue. Continuing to feed one gallon per day to the GroBucket. No top feeding except for the day I planted them in the GroBuckets. I added some Seaweed extract this week….it’s a Superfood but not sure what benefit there is in flower. It’s great for root growth in veg. Doing more research before I add more seaweed.
I am now adding homemade Terpinator. This is a bloom enhancer. I’ve attached a photo of the recipe that I use.
As I close out the week, I’m noticing some potential potassium deficiency with brown edges on some leaves. I’ve increased the Liquid Koolbloom (0-10-10) to add more supplemental potassium. I’m also going. To lower my ph from 6.3 to 6.0 on my next few feeds. (I’m in coco coir)
Starting week 6 of veg on Saturday.
I’m lowering the ph of my feed from 6.3 to 6.0 today. Hope to see an improvement in potassium uptake. I have a few leaves with burnt edges, which could be caused by bad ph. It could also be that these girls need a flush, but these GroBuckets don’t appear to have any method of flushing.
The GroBuckets remain the easiest method of growing that I have tried. I’m simply filling the bottom reservoir every day and they feed from the bottom. I’m also using coco coir (I usually grow in soil), so some of these leaf issues I’m seeing could be the result of my inaccurate feeding. Or….I have a salt buildup that’s starting to cause problems. The next few weeks should tell me if I have a salt buildup issue.
Note that this reservoir system does not buy you any time to ignore the plants. In fact, I believe I’m watering more often now than when I used fabric pots or Warrior Pots. The plants would take more water during each watering, but I could water every other day if I recall correctly. These reservoirs only hold one gallon max with no top-watering.
SUNDAY: I lowered the feed ph to 5.8. I’ve been informed that my 6.3 ph was too high for coco.
That could have resulted in my leaf issues as shown in the photos. It appears to be a potassium deficiency on both plants.
My last grows used a lot of topping to generate more bud sites (SCROG and Quadlining). I had forgotten how large colas can become when allowed to grow without diffusing energy by topping. (I only Topped twice). See Sunday photos for an idea of how the tops have developed. This plant was shorter than the other strain, so it was further away from the grow light. Seems like decent spacing between nodes….maybe a little more than ideal?
Starting week 7 of flower on the GG4….Ganja Farmer recommends 8-10 weeks of flower. I usually run longer than recommended, so I’m guessing I will run 10-11 weeks. 3-4 weeks to go, and she should be ready one week earlier than the Ganja Farmer Lemonade Haze she shares the tent with.
Note that this week will be at a 5.8 ph compared to 6.2 which was my traditional ph. (I’m in coco loco medium)
I fed as usual, using a liquid transfer pump and a 5 gallon bucket. If you haven’t considered a liquid transfer pump….it’s a game changer. Soooo much easier than hand watering with watering cans.
I will try to take some better pictures this week when using different lighting.
Welcome to week 8. According to Ganja Farmer, my flowers should mature in 8-10 weeks. We will see…..not ready yet.
I’ve increased Terpinator to 8ml/gallon. The recipe for this product was posted two weeks ago on this thread.
Thursday: The plant has started bending over from the unsupported weight. Next grow I will definitely train to keep them short. Performed trichome check and she’s ready for harvest this next week. I hope to pull out from the grow lights and snap some better photos before harvest for this journal.
Welcome to Week 9 of flower. Ganja Farmer states this is an 8-10 week strain, so it’s right on schedule. I will probably harvest in another week.
I have a lot of brown crispy leaves. I believe it’s due to being unable to flush the salts out of the rootball using this Gro Bucket.
I threw a lot of nutrients into this coco….I would expect a lot of salt buildup. While I like the simplicity of the Gro Bucket, I’m more inclined to use the AC Infinity self-feeding wick pots. I was able to flush those pots, plus the pots hold more soil.
I ran my coco loco at a ph of 6.3 for most of the grow. I lowered to 5.8 ph about two weeks ago to see if it was the cause of the crispy leaves. I don’t believe so. Regardless, we’re far enough along with this grow that the plant should finish fine.
Preparing to harvest, so I’ve stopped adding nutrients. Fed one gallon of water….will harvest later this week. I’ll also snap some better photos before harvest.
