4/5 seeds germinated in under 24h, I transferred them to peat pucks.
*Edit*
The 5th seed germinated the next day.
To prepare my coco, I rehydrated bricks in a 5gal bucket, and added vermiculite.
After more research, I decided to follow a method Dr. MJ Coco uses to prep his coco as follows:
Rehydrate coco
Rinse coco in strainer
Shake wet strainer
Repeat
Mix in perlite
*warning* please use a mask in a well ventilated area when handling dry perlite, the dust can cause serious lung issues, I used a respirator with the vent fan running in my bathroom.
(I used 3qt per 3gal rinsed coco)
Add back to grow bags
(I rinsed down the grow bags with the perlite mix)
Here's the most important part, buffering the coco:
Coco, due to some in depth chemistry, bonds calcium and magnesium, so it needs to be buffered. Otherwise, you'll fight calmag deficiencies for the whole grow.
To buffer coco, you take your 3gal pot of prepped mix, and soak the whole pot in a 5 gal bucket, with 2 gal of double strength calmag
(For GH calimagic, this will be 7.5ml/gal)
For 8 hours, and repeat this soak with fresh 2x strength calmag solution one more time.
This buffers the coco, and makes it less prone to bonding to calmag in your feed, and starving your plant.
Back to current grow conditions:
The 4 peat plugs are in an egg carton style tray
Inside a humid clone dome, over a heatmat.
This is setup inside a 2x2, with a maxsisun mf1000 100w led at max brightness, max height.
I will be transplanting these peat plugs to 1/2 pint cardboard pots of coco mix once the 2nd set of true leaves sprout.
4/2
I transplanted to coco a bit early, and fed 2ml clonex in 1 quart of water
Started adding nutrients, 400us/cm 2 parts clonex, 1 part calmag
Drenched to runoff, cleaned tray, and removed humidity dome.
Transplanted to 1gal containers and watered with 600uS solution
Raised pots closer to light, will update light distance next week
This week I'm starting the full nutrient lineup.
I raised the pots at the end of week 1
My inflow is pH'd to 5.9-6.0, 0.7 EC
My runoff is measuring 1.0 EC, which is perfect
I've been noticing some sort of mites attacking the leaves, so I'll start treating with neem oil
I'll be topping the plants this week, and will be posting update pics midweek, and a before/after topping.
Topped down to 3rd node on 4/18
Once these plants fill out the 2x2, they'll be up-potted to 3gal fabric pots, and finish veg in the 4x4!
I upped the calmag by 1ml/gal this week.
Runoff has been pretty much exactly the same as I put water which is awesome to see.
I'm watering about 1/2qt per day each plant
So a 5gal batch lasts most of the week
I topped and defoliated last week to extend the veg and keep these girls low and bushy, it definitely slowed them down, but they're recovering well.
The neem oil treatment seems to have stopped my pest problem I was seeing last week as well.
4/26
Rootballs seem well established, so I transplanted to their final homes: 3 gallon fabric pots!
4/29
The 3gal pots seem to be evaporating a lot more moisture, so the humidity has gone up to the 60s/70s
4/30
The plants seem to have fully recovered from transplant, so I started LST (I'm just rolling the stems and bending the plants open by hand)
This week I'm moving the girls to the 4x4 under the 1000w MH fixture.
I did a 2nd round of topping, just pinching off the tips of the main stems, I didn't defoliate like before though.
I'm turning up the calmag a bit this week, because they look like they need it, the red stems, and slightly sickly leaves make me think that will help.
Don't forget to check out my other grow I have started, Coast of Maine Outdoor. Those girls will be going into my 2x2 today to pre-veg before going outside into supersoil holes.
5/3
I added a jar with paper towels to up the humidity in my tent, even with the cool tube, the MH bulb heats up the tent too much to not boost the humidity
I also added a scrog-ish net
5/7 I added 10gal to my reservoir. I'm using an online water filter, and a water meter so I know exactly how much water I'm replacing
5/8
I did some more defoliation to get rid of thin growth, re-topped, and thinned the leaves a bit, since I'm running very hot and humid right now.
I'm continuing to tuck growth to try to keep it low and lateral. I'll post a midweek update here as well.
5/11
I did an extreme pruning and took clones from each plant.
I only want the thickest stems, I'm going for big colas.
I'll give the canopy time to recover, then flip to flower.
5/17
The extreme pruning last week is definitely stressing all the plants out, but I'm going for colas only. I'm continuing to train them low and wide, but I'll be letting them stretch a bit before flipping to flower.
5/19
I refilled the Rez with 14gal, 700ppm
The runoff container had approx 5 gal in it, these girls transpire a LOT!
5/21
All but one of the clones have rooted, and been transferred to 1gal pots of organic soil, I'll be begging them slowly, and the best pheno of the 4 will go on to become my main mother plant!
I'm thinking this is going to be my final week of veg, I'll be switching to hps 12/12 for flower, looking forward to seeing these girls bud up.
5/29
Switched my bulb from MH to HPS, to let the ladies adjust by the end of the week. Starting next week, that'll be on a 12/12 schedule for sure.
I did a slight defoliation of the skinniest branches, changed up the nutrients a bit, and dropped the light schedule to 12/12 today on 5/31
Canopy is clearly wall to wall, pretty level.
May add a second support net during/after stretch.
5/1 noticed a bit of potassium deficiency in some older lower fans, so I added more trio bloom.
5/4 update:
The plants are now 33in tall, and showing some N deficiency. My runoff is 1500ppm, which is about double my inflow, so I'm increasing fertigation events, and if that doesn't resolve the issue, I'll be lowing the ppm of my solution.
Hey everyone, it would seem that I should have used the MH bulb these first few weeks of flower to keep them shorter. The plants are maxing out the tent height, and they could keep stretching.
I've been hunting this deficiency down, and think I haven't fed enough N.
I went back to basics with Lucas, 1:2 micro/bloom
Flushed the media, and am getting my pH under control this week.
Raised the trellis net and tucked most of the stems under it to get them away from the light.
I'll add a midweek update later on.
Happy growing!
I've started lollipopping and removing the smallest skinniest branches. I'll do this throughout the week and stop on day 21.
I've picked off a few top fan leaves for light penetration too.
It's awesome to see this many pistils going into week 3.
I'll be posting a midweek update as well.
6/20
Not too much to update, I've plucked off all the small short stems that I don't want, added a 7" oscillating fan, and started working koolbloom powder into my nute regimen.
My clone tent has a pretty bad fungus gnat infestation, so I treated that tent and this one with neem oil.
Happy growing!
I did a final round of stripping small branches and big fan leaves the other day, ending week 3 of flower.
I've started ramping up koolbloom powder and Epsom salt.
I've dialed back my fertigation events to 2 per day, I'm still getting runoff, but the plants don't seem to mind this change so far.
These plants seem fast to flip, and I'm hoping to see some bud development kick off this week. The strain seems to be about a week ahead of strains I've grown in the past.
There aren't any super terpy smells yet, but it's starting to smell like something.
I'll be posting a midweek update in 3 days.
6/26
The plants are starting to put out some unique terpenes, Ethos' description is very accurate, fruit stripe gum and gasoline.
It isn't super strong yet, but I can smell it when I manipulate some leafs.
I'm done defoliating, and will let them go until harvest.
Happy growing everyone!
Terps are definitely starting to come through, gassy and fruity. Buds directly under the light are hard as rocks.
Pistils are starting to show what kind of colas I can expect.
The back 2 plants are receiving an extra qt of hand-fertigation per day, as they dry out quicker than the front 2.
Happy growing!
These girls are really starting to bulk now.
The smell in the tent is starting to take on the unique terpene profile of the cultivar.
The bud sites are swollen, but still throwing a lot of white pistils.
I'll be posting a midweek update as well.
Happy growing!
We're starting week 7 now, terps are really stinking up the tent, fruity and funky.
I'm going to dial back my ppm to 1000, but maintain my watering schedule for the first half of this week, and start lowering my ppms to 800-900 at the second half of the week.
I'll cut nutes entirely at the beginning of week 8, and let the plants flush and show their fall colors.
Midweek update: not too much to say, the back left plant has leaves starting to fade to a deep purple color, and I've posted a few flash photos because these girls sparkle!
End of week update: on day 5 I refilled my rez, just a little silica, koolbloom powder, and Epsom salts. ppm comes out to 500
Happy growing!
I can't begin to tell you all how happy I am with this run! Amazing smells roll out of the tent all day now. I'm going to be revegging the back left plant, her bud structure is exactly what I'm looking for, and she's starting to show off some incredible colors.
I've reduced my feed to just 500ppm to flush all the plants a bit, at the end of this week I'll be coming into the harvest window of 56-60 days that Ethos provided with these seeds.
I'll be posting a midweek update as well so we can see how it all finishes out.
Happy growing everyone!
Today is day 56, I think I'm going to go the full 60 days in flower. I've started flushing with just straight water, no nutes, and I've taken off a few big fan leaves to speed up the fade.
I plan to harvest this week, I can't wait to show you all how it turns out!
Happy growing everyone.
This should definitely be the last week of flower,
I had planned on chopping at this date but they're just not done yet.
I'll continue to flush, my runoff ppms are consistently 100, and I'll monitor these girls fading.
I'll try to upload every day until harvest, in order to gauge down to the exact day of the harvest window what I like my plants to look like.
I'll be focusing on tops, but also including a few mids, lowers, and trichome shots
I have a new diary starting and an outdoor diary just starting to flower, so please consider checking those out and subscribing to follow along with them.
Happy growing everyone!
There seems to be 2 main phenos, one with big Christmas tree shaped buds, and one with tight GG#4 shaped buds, all are covered in trichomes, especially the #3 pheno I found, Ill be re-vegging it to make sure I get clones to play with.
I don't have the wet weight, but it seems to be between 4-5lbs, I'll have an accurate dry weight soon.
This stuff is amazing on the nose, super gassy scent and flavor, extracts really well, and the trichomes don't amber easily.
It seemed to stretch quite a bit under an hps light, I want to try running my MH bulb for the first 2-3 weeks in flower
