Compare the airpot roots versus the normal pots. No root circling. and the plant is bigger although that might be genetic. Perhaps it is due to the roots being able to get more oxygen Transplanted late in week 3 into bigger pots,,, just water, no nutrients

Pineapple Chunk: topped the plant, applied some leaf tucking Critical xxl: Did some LST Still running on transplant watering from last week --- ~day 6 Watered with terra grow and root stimulator Doing some stem bending LST Lots of misting, no leaf burn at all. Once per week with Vita Race foliar spray Trying to keep a higher temp and RH than flower space Looks like pineapple chunk is the most vigorous plant

It's a hassle to take pictures in this tent. I hate the purple light. They're growing strong and pineapple chunk is a powerhouse. On the left in tent is 2x Critical.

I don't know... I'm just having fun with it! I went from 400 to 600 ppm last week. The plants drink slowly under LED Installed the scrog net because it was finally available. Going to use it to finish off the vegetative stage This is a 70x70cm canopy. I will move it to 1x1m in flower. Good luck with the grows to everybody

Absolutely love the CMH light. :) I can recommend it to everyone. Flowering with 13/11 on/off The scrog was a bit late. Next grow I can use it better. Plants are getting their hairs. No spider mites so far. Haha. I've added 50 watts of DIY led (see previous week). I think I'll add 50w more. My next step for this coming week will be to get some better air movement because my tent is more crowded now. I've sacrificed a plant spot for my good fan in this grow. The scrog net was installed to widen the canopy as much as possible Critical XXL is just a day or 2 ahead of Pineapple chunk in terms of hair development. Size-wise Pineapple chunk started huge but the Critical XXL plants caught up and grew larger. Now, PC is making a comeback racing through the scrog net. The Pineapple Chunk makes really large leaves that cover the canopy. Needless to say I am excited to see these strong stems develop their buds.

Started these plants on some bloom boosting food. My problem every day is humidity. These plants transpire so much water into the air. The room can get 65-78% RH. The outside temperatures are too low to open the window very wide. I'm trying a bunch of desiccants but I need to bring out something more heavy duty. If you can recommend a dehumidifier, let me know :) Inside the tent the RH is a bit lower due to air movement and me putting most of the desiccants there (trying calcium chloride and silica gel based stuff) Noticing lots of trichomes after 3.5 weeks of CMH light. What a lamp Good luck everyone

Oops, some parts got a little burned from the light. 😆 Lovely smell is coming, the fattening up has started. It actually smelled like pineapple today (day 6). You can see in the pictures the center hotspot. They grew into it a little fast. I think I'll refrain from doing multiple strain grows in the future.

The lamp is higher and the plants are doing better. Well, they were doing fine, there was just too much light. It's been very informative; now I know how to work with the CMH better. I'm happy to be using a lamp so powerful. Humidity is a bit less of a problem, going from 75-83% back to 60%. Still a little high, but there is ample circulation in the tent I also flushed the soil and found out the runoff was 3000ppm, yikes. I was a bit busy and I'm still working on an irrigation system. Happy to learn a lot. The next grow should be a bit less experimental / carefree I said I would not do multiple strain grows again, but it's only a problem because I pushed the light too close :) I am still persisting with 13 hours on light schedule. Good luck to everyone 👍 Shoutout to Zambeza for featuring my pictures of Critical XXL on twitter!

Just waiting. The pineapple chunk is quite fat. The critical seems more hardy. It resisted the light burn and recovered slightly better.

Looks like one of the criticals is going to finish before the other plants. The spider mites were back on some leaves last week and I killed them. Week 7 is not my lucky week. I think they don't like the UVB light emitted from the CMH so they stay low. I sprayed the underside of the lower leaves with organic pesticide to kill them some more. I've got some powdery mildew spores on lower leaves. I guess I check often so whenever I find something it's not a big deal yet. Both problems are very minimal... Sprayed the leaves with some water peroxide + water, added a fan. I was thorough but not thorough enough when I cleaned my environment. Live and learn :) --- Mites are gone, no more mildew. I did chop 2 branches from Critical#2, and smoked some of the best weed of my life.

The water on the leaves is because I sprayed the leaves with H2O2 + water. Against the mildew.

Harvest update in 2 weeks or so :) I wanted to let them go a bit longer but the mildew was going to take over so I chopped the plants and rinsed them in water + H2O2. Lots of lessons learned ... Lots of bud hanging on the vine. Good luck to everyone

These tops are dense as a rock. I'm surprised at the yield. It took up about 1/4th of my canopy space but for posterity's sake I'll make it 0.36 m² for this diary. The taste is delicious and the effect is really strong. It's a very hard hitting high THC plant. One hit and you feel the blaze in your head. This plant is excellent at capturing and stealing light with its very long leaf arms.. I'm bad at describing the smell but this smells like a mix of sweet and pungent dank weed. Really great. I haven't weighed and jarred the Criticals yet but I will come with another update for them soon. Check out week 18 for a timelapse... Pineapple chunk is in the top right 20 grams is good larf, the rest is solid bud. The plants were hang dried for a little over 2 weeks in a relative humidity of 50-60. I got a much better result from leaving the leaves on there and just taking them off when I smoke some. Aesthetics be damned

Well, I'm really happy and surprised that I was able to get 322 grams from 3 plants, achieving a gram per watt. A little less than 1/4 of my available canopy was empty. These two criticals yielded 197 grams of delicious smoking bud under a 315w CMH lamp, in 9L of soil. Of these 197 grams, 30 grams is small larf. The effect is more energetic and in the head when harvested a bit earlier than my first one. Very pleasant to me. I probably won't scrog next time because I like to be able to lift plants and access the ones in the back better. I didn't actually scrog properly this time because the net came in very late. It's nice and well made, but I'll just use it for hang drying in the future. I might go back to square pots with bigger volume because while the air pots are amazing I don't look forward to preparing them for my upcoming plants, SSH from zambeza. Bad pics taken at night, the colors aren't good. I will update it later for those interested... just want to finish this for now Happy new year & good luck to all

Amazing setup you got going on, I'm planning a scrog setup again for my cookies kush. Do you get more yield lollipoping them? I did it once but I didn't get good results but I had a bunch of other issues so I don't really know how it affects the yield. Seeing your pineapple chunk and the time she is in I must say I burnt my buds a little :/

@BillMonroe, thank you. I will give it a try, you definitely doing something right here. Looking forward to your final product.
BillMonroe
BillMonroecommented6 years ago
@Lou_Grows, I'm far from an expert but here's the way I approach it. Indeed, when you flip them, get rid of anything you think doesn't look good at the bottom 1/3rd of the plant. I'm not so good at predicting which branches will grow to what extent, so I err on the side of safety. Then the plant can stretch for a while and start to produce the flowers. Secondly, there is a stage when your main tops are getting a reasonable amout of pistil hairs, let's say around the start of week 3 of flower, just before the budset really begins. At this point I'll take out anything that looks like shit compared to the main tops. You've seen it, weak branches with about 40% the number of hairs of the main tops. intuitively you know they will produce almost nothing. I also continually take off the tiny buds that keeps growing at the bottom, to keep them at bay. I don't defoliate much and bud stems will always try to from at the internode So it's really just a continuous process with 2 slightly more aggressive prunings, 1 at the start of flower and another before the real budding begins. the rest is just taking stuff away that just won't become nice in the end. 😊 Some people say it's best to do pruning in one event because it would stress the plant. I think this is wise advice if you are removing significant portions of the plant. I don't notice any negative effects from my minor pruning

Lou_Growscommented6 years ago
@BillMonroe, wow man thank you for that answer I'm going to give it a try with the cookies, should I lollipop at flip or after the stretch?

is everything supposed to be cut off below the scrog screen or am I tripping balls
BillMonroe
BillMonroecommented6 years ago
@chronicthehemphog, Good question! I think you will get a different answer from everyone... I personally found a lot of drawbacks - you can't move plants or lift pots. I could not reach the ones in the back properly. it seems harder to provide everything with fresh moving air. To name a few. If a scrog can do it, you can do it with LST (yeah, with a lot more work). I'd rather tie a rope around the pots and LST to that, or put some bamboo sticks in the medium to LST branches to. For me being able to lift pots and move plants is just essential. I don't always water in my tent. when I'm flushing with lots of water I like to be able to take them out. And that's the time when they're most entangled in the scrog. I also want to 360 a plant and do any necessary trimming. If spider mites happened in the back of my tent I probably would not have found out until it was too late. Collecting the runoff water is such a pain in the ass if your plants are on the ground which my tent height forces me to... So I did not like it but there are those who swear by it. 😊 I might do a scrog again if I had access from all sides & could put the pot on a table for easier watering. I'd do a single plant in a big container instead of multiple plants.
chronicthehemphog
chronicthehemphogcommented6 years ago
from ur experience u think scrog is the way to go for tent grows or does it have some drawbacks?
BillMonroe
BillMonroecommented6 years ago
@chronicthehemphog, No that is not necessary 😊 I do/did it for 2 reasons, 1 is I don't care much about the small buds that form there and prefer the energy in the tops, 2 is for better air movement & less leaf mass for pests etc. E.g. overlapping leaves which are not moving tend to get mildew for me. This scrog was more like a half a scrog and half a support net because I started using it quite late.

The pineapple is beautiful mate!! How’s it been to grow?
Skunkman
Skunkmancommented6 years ago
@BillMonroe, it definitely looks like a big yielder! Pineapple is going to be my next project.
BillMonroe
BillMonroecommented6 years ago
@Skunkman, Thanks, it's been great! It was barely scrogged and pretty much all the branching and canopy was from topping at the 5th node. The leaves are so huge and from the beginning of flower it was clear that this was going to be a yielder. These nugs are just so fat, round and dense. I wish I had a clone alive of this plant, although I have not smoked it yet. If there is a next time I would defoliate it loads when going to flower in a room like mine. Its many big overlapping leaves are an invitation for mildew and stuff. The pineapple plant can make very very long stems for its leaves, so they are always sticking out everywhere. It can easily steal light from other plants.
