I’m continuing with this grow after several incidents. I started germinating the first seed of this strain on 04/18/23. Two weeks later, the seedling didn’t show, for me, enough vigor, since this is something I expect greatly in an autoflowering grow because these strains flower without my control, and I didn’t want to risk growing a plant that was too small. So on 04/29/23, I put another seed to germinate, it germinated and died in 5 days due to my bad practices. I tried to speed up germination by heating the substrate, and in the end, what I did was cook the seed. So on 05/04/23, I put my third and last seed in a substrate moistened only with water and waited. The seed peeked through the substrate after 4 days, and now it’s 8 days old, and yes, it shows vigor. This plant is going to be the one I finally grow if there are no setbacks. Meanwhile, the first seedling is alive. I’m going to grow it in sunlight, it will jump from window to window all day long. I’ve transplanted the seedling into an old-school 7L pot, and most importantly, I’m using 100% reused substrate from my grows from two seasons ago. I’m going to see how it behaves. I believe that since it’s a substrate without remnants of mineral salts, but with remnants of minerals and a lot of organic matter, partly humified and with latent microbiology, it’s going to be an ideal substrate for intense nutrient watering... The older plant hasn't had much luck with this week's weather; every day has been cloudy or very cloudy. This grow diary consists of two plants of the same strain that will compete growing under equal lighting conditions and in similar pots, only the substrate and watering are different... - The first plant is four weeks old and grown in an old-school red pot with homemade side aeration and a capacity of 7L, which I transplanted yesterday with a mix of new substrate containing minerals and humus. - The second plant is six weeks old and grown in an old-school black pot with homemade side aeration and a capacity of 7L, using a 100% reused substrate from my grows two seasons ago, and until today I’ve grown it outdoors. This plant entered flowering a few days ago and seems to be regaining some vigor after a deep watering with Bio Stimulants. I had planned to grow this plant outdoors due to space issues, but the passing of another one of my crops has allowed it a spot in my homemade grow tent, where I started these organic growing adventures three years ago. This week I did the second deep watering and the plant appreciated it immediately! To start, I’ve set up three diffuse light LED panels of 30w each with different color temperatures, which I will replace with other lamps as the grows progress; I have a box full of lights of all kinds... let’s play!! The top panel (20x20cm) is 7700K, white light for the early stages of growth. The background side panel (55x24cm) is 4000K, slightly warmer light than the previous one that broadens the light spectrum. The front side panel (20x20cm) has 450nm (true blue) LEDs to promote leaf and root expansion and the compacting of the crops. Four days ago, I added a mix of dry amendments cooked with Mountain Microorganisms (MM) to the top of the substrate, then covered it all with chopped green leaves from defoliations. This material serves several functions, the main one being to feed the microbiology, another is to retain moisture at the top of the substrate, thus enhancing the growth of adventitious roots from the very first centimeter of substrate... let’s play! - The second plant, seven weeks old, is grown in an old-school black pot with homemade lateral aeration and a capacity of 7L, using 100% reused substrate from my grows two seasons ago. This week, I did a deep watering when there was still enough moisture in the pot. The reason is that it had been too many days with the same watering, as this plant's water consumption is very low. I wanted to moisten/oxygenate the substrate and boost rooting; despite everything, the plant looks healthy and is thriving normally. I think the reused substrate was too dry and is now showing greater water retention than the new substrates; otherwise, the grow is progressing without issues. • LIGHTS... ACTION ☀️💡 Yesterday, I made significant changes to the lights in this grow tent. I replaced the upper panel of 7700K and 30w consumption with my old MH Eco 60 Full Spectrum lamp at 100w consumption. Also, to compensate for the increased electricity consumption from the replacement of the canopy lamp, I removed the side panel of 450nm and 30w consumption; additionally, the new lamp already incorporates LEDs with that blue spectrum. I’m keeping the background side panel (55x24cm/33w) with 4000K, which I will replace as flowering progresses with another of the same size but with a color spectrum of 2800K. Now I have a consumption of 133w for the 3 plants; depending on the evolution of the crops, I will add one or two side panels of 3000K +660nm... maximum brightness to get the best and toughest buds... all for the cause. This week, two deep waterings, water consumption is on the rise and it's noticeable in the plant's growth, it has grown 12cm this week, the floral buds, absolutely beautiful, adorn this grow. 2) - The second plant, eight weeks old and grown in an old-school black pot with homemade lateral aeration and 7L capacity, a 100% reused substrate from my grows two seasons ago. The plant remains healthy but is stagnant, showing no growth, and water consumption is minimal. I germinated the other seed of this strain because I detected growth issues and a lack of vigor from the start in this plant, and I was right. The 100% reused substrate shows great moisture retention, I think it's too dense to use it without mixing, which is normal since it's a substrate with a lot of humified material and retained organic nutrients. This type of substrate in mother soil is everything I would look for, but not to use it pure in pots. However, in all the other grows this season, I'm using 25% of this reused substrate and they are all doing very well. Thirteen weeks of automatic life between sun and lights, this week I was thinking of harvesting the plant. While I was watching it before the sacrifice, I saw the beginning of rot in the main bud. This has been a recurring problem in half of my plants. I carefully removed the affected buds, but the stem in that area became very weak, and I had to cut the apex, the first 5cm of the main bud. I kept the plant for 3 more days to see how it behaved. The main bud seemed ready, but the buds on the four side branches were showing growth, so two days ago I completely cut the central bud, and now I keep the plant in the big tent to see if I can fatten those buds. For now, the water consumption remains high; I gave it a stimulating watering. I'm going to wait for it to run out and then give it another with pure mountain water. In total, I think I'll keep it for another week... let's play! Today is harvest day after fourteen and a half weeks of automatic life between sun and lights. I finally harvested this plant. As I explained earlier, I did it in 3 phases: first, I removed 5cm from the main apex, a few days later I cut the main apex, and I’ve had the plant growing for almost 15 days. The buds from the four remaining branches have fattened up quite a bit; they are dense, aromatic, and very sativa. Overall, considering the 7L pot, the yield of this strain is acceptable. It’s now drying, and I’ll smoke it this coming winter.
