Put the seed directly into water saturated rockwool, pulled a small amount of rockwool over the top of the seed.
Put rockwool in final net pot with an overturned clear cup sitting on top, holes poked into the sides with a black sock pulled over the top of the cup (acts as awning/shade while giving indirect light).
Mist inside cup with water for 1-3 days. Took about two days for the cotyledons to pop up.
Don't mind the changing buckets in the pics. I went bucket-tote-bucket with this plant, but we're all good now. (12 gallons was a little much, especially after seeing the side of the tote bow a little!)
She spent her first ~2-10 days building a good root system before starting to take off up top.
She started building height and nodes. This is my 2nd grow with this strain, and she does NOT like a "normal" amount of nitrogen. I had raised the ppm to around 350 and immediately started getting clawing. Pumped out most of the res the next day and redid the nutrients to around 250 ppm
She had stem pistils/calyx for around 2 weeks already, but her first buds started showing around day 35. I was expecting her to cap out around 60cm/24 inches...I was very wrong.
I decided no top/fim since it's an auto, and very little LST because I wanted to see the full power of my first hydro grow.
She is pretty large compared to her strain info. Supposed max height is 60cm, but as of day 45 (not pictured) she's closing in on 80cm (she's 30in right now). I hope she stops stretching soon - I already pushed my lights up as high as they can go lol
Buds are coming along slowly but surely. Not much smell yet bud-wise, but she gets real temperamental when I move her leaves and branches around for inspection.
She's got a little bit of tip burn going on, as well as some lighter leaves - had some issues with growth speed vs light height (I rotated her to be between the lights, so main cola is not getting blasted with close light) as well as pH issues.
The pH keeps dropping by up to 1 point throughout the day/night. I did some pH up the first day, just to have it steadily drop again later.
Changed the res water, no root issues (huge root ball and all pearly white) and redid nutes at a lower ppm from 280 to 208.
That resolved the pH issues for about a day. pH drop again today from 6.2 to around 5.4, ppm still at 208 and EC at .41
Turned the air pump to the lowest setting as well, just in case it's acid rain effect. She's still looking healthy overall, just got to reel in the pH issue.
Ph issue is still persisting - I think it may be a buffering issue from the GH nutrients. I partially took it out of the bucket for an all-around root check... The roots are perfectly white and fill the entire bucket from net pot to air stone, so they're not the issue. Tried adding about 1mL (total) of FloraGro to the bucket, since the label indicates it has a pH buffer. The pH drop isn't as drastic now, still dropping overall though. It may just be how this plant behaves, we'll see.
Plant still looks very healthy overall, first little trichomes are popping up!
Continued to have pH drop issues, leading to more leaf twisting and some odd colorations. Researched a lot, and it seems that GH trio is a common denominator of this issue - not to say everyone has issues with it, but outside of budding it was the only new variable after a fantastic veg phase.
Already had FF Tiger bloom on hand, so I changed the res and redid with the FF at about 290ppm and EC about .56 on 6/20. So far it's been much more stable, only dropping pH ~.2 instead of 1.2 in 24 hours.
I'll most likely stick with FF from here on out with her - she's still overall healthy, buds are just starting to bulk up and trichomes are really starting to spread!
Coming into the last 1-2 weeks (hopefully) of flower before chop. Dropped the light from 20/4 to 18/6 to finish her up.
I can see the pH stress in some leaves,as well as what I surmise to be a calmag deficiency (I had cut it out as part of my method to determine the pH drop culprit), so I added 1ml total to the res two days ago and 3ml more today. At this point it's just keeping everything in line long enough to fatten up more before the finish!
Calmag + Tiger Bloom have been doing a better job at maintaining pH levels vs GH Trio. Pistils are getting darker, trichomes starting to get some cloudiness and buds are getting thicker. Not too much longer now.
Update Day 74: moved my photo plant (2 autos 1 photo have been growing, staggered) to another spot to continue her veg, since my 2nd auto is in the flowering stretch and the humidity was becoming too much to control with all the extra veg. I fear for the buds getting too much moisture on my 1st auto (the main character in this diary) so I moved the photo out. RH back down to 50% (it had gone as high as 68 RH with all three ladies in there)
I'll be doing a dry trim with weight and photos once they're ready to go into curing.
She grew fast and very large (36 inches trunk to tip) and over 2ft wide. I was hoping for slightly larger buds, but with this being my first hydro grow I'm satisfied with the results.
This strain is definitely not forgiving. This is my second harvest of this strain (3rd plant of this strain is currently over a week into flowering) and even using only a quarter of the hydro N nutrients left me with clawing. I'm not without blame, though, as this is always a learning experience!
