A bit worried about first one. A bit of leaf burn. A piece is missing and the other leaf has a burnt tip. What could it be? Nutrients too soon? Very hard water? Not enough or too much breeze? **Day 14 update** They live. Joyous. To be clear this is 14 days after laying the seeds into kitchen roll moistened with distilled water. I had the LED at 45cm but lowered it to 25cm and I'm sure it's stopped them stretching. Gradually increasing watering. Every other day they're getting 160ml each. Just watering near the stem to avoid drowning them. I think they're going to need more of everything in the coming weeks. Some extra info on my setup. To keep the noise down I'm using 2 PC fans until the smell comes. Powered by 2 variable dc wallwarts. I used camping mat to make holders/tubes for them in the toggle holes. Mars Hydro 300 is working solidly for 24/7. I've got a Vander 150w to add, although I'm not sure about it as it's got no heatsink on the led panel. Had to replace the fan as on the Mars with a silent wings because it sounded like an aircraft. You can see the wet tea towel in the other pot tray keeping the humidity up. The intake fan blows on this. I've got a carbon filter built in now with a bathroom extractor fan and a homemade muffler which I'll show when the time comes. HAPPY!

Hi, can somebody with look at my week 6 pics and tell me if this looks like light burn, wind burn or a nutrient issue? I thought initially that it was a nutrient lockout from watering error, but the worst leaves are all on one side. This leads me to wind or light instead.

Looking at your previous weeks, everything was going ok, if a little heavy on nitrogen (dark leaves) and some clawing. That the issue appeared so quick points to a combination of nute burn / lockout. What you need to do is get distilled water, enough for a thorough flush, twice the pot volume should do, so 20 liters or so, then let the plant recover without feeding for at least 1 week. As for your water source, it should have an EC / PPM of 0.4 to 0.5 EC (200 to 250 PPM), above that and it's not good for your plant, you will always risk lockouts and burns using it; below that and it needs calcium and magnesium additive. An EC / PPM meter although optional in soil, makes your life as a grower easier as it takes the guessing out of feeding. For future reference, do not feed more than once a week; feeding in soil, let the plant consume what's on the soil, only start feeding when the first signs of deficiencies appear, not before, since while a slight deficiency will not impair flowering and yield, a burn can be disastrous. Good luck

I agree with BeefWellingtons, and it would be wize to proper flush the girls in that last week.
BeefWellingtons

@FritzTheCat, I think he means don't use any nutrients at all (no cal mag), and try to get some RO (reverse Osmosis) water instead of distilled. That will be the best for flushing as there is almost no tds/ppm in RO water. Also, I would flush for 10 days, not 1 week, if possible.
FritzTheCat
FritzTheCat
@GrowDutch, You mean with 22L of distilled water per plant (11l, pots) or should I use a small amount of CalMag in there?

Just a note here to say that I read this article... https://www.royalqueenseeds.com/blog-cannabis-water-quality-part-2-ppm-ec-n298 ...seems to imply that water under 500ppm doesn't require action. I've read others since that say over 200 is a problem. I wish I'd read them first. ...???! (makes confused Scooby Doo noise).

Yellow tips are an indicator of Nutrient burn. Its never to early to start using nutrients in my opinion, but you want to use significantly less than the recommended amounts. Good luck on your first grow! 😎

@FritzTheCat, Haha I LOVE coming back to diaries and seeing the progression 😍 It looks like you really pulled it through on this one. Those are some hefty size colas you got going on. Its fantastic for a first grow. Be sure to enter it into the newbie of the month when its done ;)

@HighTV, Was just remembering this comment. My first harvest is now dried (7 days) and I'm going into curing.. Having a little vape of my my first dried bud. Ha ha. It's soooo gooooood. Love to everyone here. Omg. Yes. You are correct. It's surreal but fine fine fine!

Hey, I grew quick one before and also had some weird deformed first leafs. Seems to be something related i guess. Non the less after the second or third node all leafs usually grow healthy and look normal. Good luck with the grow!

@@@ThePanda, Haha, I couldn't resist meddling after seeing your grow. I've lowered my 300w to 30cm. Temp should be no problem. Though it is now up a bit. I gave them a little more water tonight. About 150ml each. Let's see what they do.

@FritzTheCat, Judging by the pictures i think maybe its distance to lamp being your issue? My plants tend to grow very tight and bushy, even mainly sativa strains (only in veg tho). Maybe try reducing the distance and see how that works out. After all it might be genetics :D

Great work work there mate, 500gr wet is a good haul! How about the smell during the harvest?
FritzTheCat
FritzTheCat
@GrowDutch, They're in the grow tent. Dark. Carbon filter and extractor on a 15mins/hr timer. Passive intake. Smell not so bad now. Will take a week I think. I've got IKEA jars and humidity sachets for curing. 😊

@GrowDutch, Smell was beautiful and bountiful. I was freaking out a bit. I burned toast in the rest of the apartment to disguise the smell. I was listening to ambient music and munching a few fan leaves as I went to stay chilled. Afterwards I opened all the widows and blasted a high power fan.

I think my closet space is not enough for three plants, next time I'm gonna try with one single plant (I have northern lights auto and white widow auto to try out) since my third is suffering a little and I'm having problems with my temps cause it's freezing outside :/

@rien Thanks. Me too. Plan to chop Wednesday/Thursday coming. Will post updates. I got lucky with one plant ripening nicely despite my lockout problem. I definitely underestimated how bad my tap water was and how important pH is. The other two plants are still struggling to the finish line. How are you getting on? I had the feeling you need more light. 🌿

Nice one ma friend, can you tell me, I was looking at the rqs website and at their low odor strains and they seem to list this as one of them, but from reading some other journals it seems this stuff stinks, can you verify? I've got a carbon filter and cupboard is negative pressure, but am worried this will smell to strong up to the end of flowering. What you reckon? also what sort of smells are you getting..is it strong skunky smell etc. ps. nice buds👍

@FritzTheCat, Thanks for the reply man that's great to know, I know what you mean about living with the smells and not noticing them, done a grow of female seeds lemon kush, a few years back now but heard the neighbours talking about it just before I was going to put them into flower, and just couldn't risk it so had to do the terrible thing before they went into flower and give them the chop :(. Keep up the great work man 👆
FritzTheCat
FritzTheCat
@PannDanggDiddlyAngg, I think you'll be ok. This is definitely a low odor strain. These things are always relative though. I wouldn't describe it as skunky at all. I got more of a fruity smell...very pleasant, but def. a light cannabis smell. I think there's no such thing as a "no smell" strain. I'm still a beginner though so take everything I report with caution. The smell was mostly in full bloom. I didn't use my carbon filter until flowering was well underway. The carbon filter (not a big one) worked very well in this small apartment, but I still needed to air the bedroom where I was growing daily. In full bloom there was still a light aroma in the room, so that I wouldn't have invited the uninitiated or an officer of the law into the place. Noise and heat were bigger problems for me though. I had three plants in two foot square. Another thing is that you get used to the smell, and although I thought there was no smell at all some days, my girlfriend would come in the front door and say wow...you need to air this place. It was a bit nerve wracking with the Stasi neighbors. That's about it. I'm really happy with my harvest. It works. I'm going to try some more from RQS in the spring. Good luck 🕊️

I share your confusion about harvest time for this strain, at this speed I don't think mine will take less than week 10. The only solution it's to give them time and check the thricomes.

@rien, Same. I just got one of those handheld microscopes (Carson mm300). Now in Week 8. I've got lots of Trichomes showing up already. Some even have a milky tinge, though it's hard to judge with shaky hands and strange lighting. Nothing amber yet.

I think for now I'm being really lucky, I've never grown anything before except parsley lol and my grow is really just three plants in a closet and lots of luck. Good luck to you too, I'm waiting to see the results
FritzTheCat
FritzTheCat
@rien, Interesting. I thought that meant flowering would begin during weeks 5 or 6. I've read frequently that they exaggerate a bit. i.e. If harvest is between 8 and 14 weeks they'll put 9 on the data sheet. I reckon 10 is most likely from looking at all the other grows here. Your grow looks a bit more stable than mine. Leaves look healthy. Good luck. We're entering the end game my friend.🌿🌼

@FritzTheCat,yeah i know in wich situaton you are. doing one mistake and you entered a chain reaction. given to much nutes... flushing and here we are in a overwatering/ lockout situation i had similar in spring that year. i ended up tranplanting my autoflower. but it was worse than your situation. But one think it will take weeks to mend/ solve / mildering the situation. Bt i cant promise that everything ends well. not getting good stuff has to do with an PH.... plants need a PH range to absorb the nutrients, and if you dont have the PH your plants cant absorb the nutes. But a salvation of those different problems is diffivult, Maybe helps you one sentence" less is more now" A plant can handle less nutrients and less water. but to much of those makes her very sick i will follow up to look how it goes on... Happy growing
FritzTheCat
FritzTheCat
@Mrs_Larimar, Thanks. I now know where I stand but I'm faced with a dilemma. I flushed last week with 300ppm mixture of distilled and tap. I now realize I should have just used distilled. I plan to just use distilled/calmag/nutes for watering from now on. Should I flush again using distilled so soon after the last time? I'm feeling a bit of time pressure with this short life autoflower, it takes 4 or 5 days to dry out afterwards. Worried that they're not going to get enough good stuff. The patchy leaves are really only on one side of one of the three plants.

Looks like you have some Nitrogen Toxicity. Good luck with the grow.
Boriking_PR
Boriking_PR
If i was in your position, ill do both. A quick flush and lower your N. You can get away with just lowering your N but it may take longer to recover. Hard to ruled out wind burn as well as the 2 causes pretty much the same symptoms and i don't really know your setup.
FritzTheCat
FritzTheCat
@Boriking_PR, I fear that's right. Should I flush or just tone down the newts? (Quite a sentence) Not all of the plants have this though. Sure it's not wind damage?

@FritzTheCat, CalMag has Calcium nitrate and Magnesium nitrate true? Both of them are adding nitrogen to your babies, and that is what you wanna get rid off in this stage. Indeed RO water would be the best thing to do now, but if you don't have it just go for the next best thing. As long as you don't add anything to keep the ppm as low as possible.
FritzTheCat
FritzTheCat
@GrowDutch, Thanks for helping guys. I understand about the value of flushing at the end it's just that I read that 0 ppm water can cause problems and that you should add a small amount of nutes to buffer the solution even when flushing, although I would think that the soil itself would be enough of a buffer. So much to learn. 🕊️

FritzTheCat
FritzTheCat
@Mrs_Larimar, Thanks again, but the question is do I flush with distilled, or just go straight to better feeding. I think tonight I will make up a 100ppm water (distilled with a bit of 24hr water) and add some nutrients. If the lockout starts to appear in the other plants too I'll flush them all properly with distilled water. The flowers are growing anyway and I've got at least 3 weeks left I hope. If I get 5g per plant I'll be thrilled. The street stuff where I am has Lead, Sugar, Hairspray and god knows what else. What I don't understand is if I use distilled water with CalMag+, do the biobizz nutrients supply enough Nitrogen etc.? It's amazing how sensitive this process is. I've grown amazing geraniums, roses, herbs and veg here with nothing but 480 tap water and a bit of cheap fertilizer. Time will tell. ✌️🌿

@rien, Thanks. Week 4 update will be nice. Stay tuned. I've started LST on 2 plants and I'm leaving the third alone. Had some great growth this week. The first couple of weeks were really nerve wracking, like with all babies, but similarly, as they grow they get robust. I feel a bit more relaxed now that they look like decent green plants. I wish you luck, cool and calm. 🌱

Looks like a Magnesium deficiency. I would add CalMag supplements. https://www.growweedeasy.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/04/magnesium-info-marijuana.jpg Edit: The medium you are using is supposed to be used only for around a week until you need to fertilize as far as i know. Its expected to see deficiencies starting to pop up in week 3 but you have to handle them quick.
FritzTheCat
FritzTheCat
@@ThePanda, Thanks,, That makes sense. We have really hard water, I was lowering it by mixing in a fair bit of distilled. I think I was overdoing it. I remeasured and found the tap water to be dead on 7. I'll try using it straight and I've upped the nutrients a bit as well. Cheers.
