I was still spinning from the unsuccessful attempt to germinate my White Widdow Auto (In my other diary: "Gorilla Glue #4 Auto - First Run Ever"), I still felt pretty uncertain about what I'm doing. Reluctantly, I started germination of this strain in order to make sure I'd have enough medicine post-harvest. I am looking forward to watching this girl reach full maturity. There's such a wide variety of how she could end up looking once she's fully matured. I'm reeeallly hoping that she'll turn out like that "Bruce Banner Auto - Finished Candidate 1"
Day 0 - Started germination on 9/24 using the paper towel Method using PH'd water RO water inside a little ziplock baggie. This time, I placed the ziplocked baggie inside a solo cup. Then I put the cup upside down in a tupperware container so that it was in a semi-dark place in .
Day 1 - Came back the next day to check the paper towel for dampness. The paper towel inside the baggie seemed pretty damp but I still added ~ 4ml of 6.4 PH'd RO water.
Day 2 - Checked the paper towel through the baggie and saw that she pop'd, but very little! I was sorta unlucky trying to germinate another seed right before this one, it never pop'd. So I decided to leave her there just for one more day this time...
Day 3 - I already saw that she pop'd out the day before but, I was really excited to see exactly how much more her tap root had grown when I opened the paper towel. I was so relieved to see that she was getting along just fine. I went ahead and planted her 1/4" deep (tap root up - that's just how she fell), in a solo cup that I poked some holes into for drainage. Using unamended Happy Frog soil from Fox Farms, I watered down the soil with a little runoff using 6.2 PH'd water. After checking the runoff for PH (6.52) and PPM (1000), I placed her inside the tent next to the other girl I started ~ 1 week ago. I'm anticipating that it'll be okay to share the same environment since they're only 1 week apart in age... hopefully, I'm not wrong!
Day 4 - I feel like her first night in the tent went well! The average temp stayed around 24.8C with 73% relative humidity. Just waiting for her to sprout through the soil now. Just making sure the soil stays pretty damp by spritzing the topsoil until I see just a tiiiny bit of runoff at the bottom of the cup. So that she doesn't get burned alive...
Day 5 - She's a little shy... I hope she's okay! Lowered the PH down to ~5.2 thinking that maybe a lower PH is beter for this strain but she hasn't popped out yet. Still watering her till I see a little runoff and maintaining a environment of 24-25C & 70-75%RH. I'm excited about seeing pop out for the first time but I also know I gotta be patient. No pictures today, it's just dirt in a cup...
Day 6 - She pop'd out to say "hello world!" finally, and I was so excited. I just figured out that I'm watering the lil lady with around 1/3-1/4 cup of (PD'd & RO) water a day through the spray bottle. I also decided to add some Great White mycorrhizae to the water to help with her root growth. Which was why I chose to use a dixie cup for her. Thinking about transplanting to a 1/2 gallon pot within the first 2-3 weeks after germination just to see what kind of progress the root ball is making. I switched the lighting intensity up to 80%, the color spectrum over to veg and I moved it to 23" away from the plant as well. I'll just have to be patient and keep a close eye on her till then.
Day 7 - OMG, she grew close to .5 an inch overnight!!! She's looking pretty happy and healthy, a beautiful shade of green with a strong meristem. I gave her enough (RO & PH'd=~6.1) water to runoff just a bit, 3 times. Once at the beginning of her day, in the middle, and right before bedtime. I'm still following the 18/6 lighting schedule although, the temp did increase from 24-25C to 25-26C and the RH lowered from 75% to 73%, the VPD chart I'm using states that's fine since the VPD is staying between .70-.92 kPa
***See NOTE***
She survived and thrived her first week and looks a lot better than my other plant did at this stage of life. I'm so happy and proud of her progress thus far, I'll continue to track her progress here till she's ready for harvest.
Note: I've been having issues with uploading every Day 7 photo I've tried 5x now... I've tried saving them as .png, .jpeg, and .jpg but it's not working (stuck resizing). I emailed the website admins about this 3 days ago ...haven't heard back from anyone so until this site allows me to upload the photos, you'll have to take my word for it.
