10 days ago I topped her twice in one session before realizing I should have let her recover from the 1st prior soft pinching the side shoots. Well, that mistake didn’t slow us down so it’s all good. Today she has her 4 tops pruned for a 3rd topping and I started training the branches for the 8 tops. The branches are uneven and I tried tying the larger branches lower in the hopes I can even them out. This is my first attempt at a mainline so I’m kind of winging it! She’s got lovely thick and juicy stems and I know she just wants to grow tall. You can see her roots are really filling out this 1 gallon bag. I will upgrade her to a 2 gallon at some point but I’m not ready yet. Still trying to figure out the timing on this grow.
I attempted to clone her very first top for fun using pro-mix and after 10 days I finally peaked and can confirm we have roots! Pothead might have a new hairstyle soon!
Some cool things I noticed after changing her lighting.. under the previous “100 watt sunlike led with additional IR” she grew kind of stretchy but after changing to the viparspectra 100 watt her first set had only 4-fingers (due to change in lighting apparently!) and her new growth is thicker, tighter.
We are still being grateful for the rain. We are in the middle of a long storm and humidity is 90+ outside. Temps freezing at night and central heating has been turned on. This has not only allowed us to collect plenty of rainwater in the time it takes to huddle under the porch to smoke a joint (!) but also has screwed up the environment in all the tents and we are learning lots about regulating VPD and reducing wild swings in both temperature and humidity. This is a very confusing and useful experience!
She’s watered twice daily to runoff. GP3 nutes.
We also continue to grow our gratitude practice daily while watering the plants at lights on. We play them some music, share a pipe, breathe deeply with them and count our many blessings.
Happy growing 🌱
She drinks almost 500ml per day, 6 inches tall. We have to wait about 4 more weeks before we have flowering space so we will probably give her 16 tops in total.
Happy growing
We topped her down to node 3 and removed growth sites below, hope it wasn’t too much, watered her in with our collected rain water enriched with the gp3 nutrients 🤞🤞
Happy growing
Friendship plant update: the soil took 2 weeks to dry out and she was watered again today. Growth on every branch but she’s still very “soft” and in recovery. Half dose fertilizer and moderate light, letting the soil dry down, giving her a gentle wake up. Once she’s firmed up, probably in the spring, she will get root pruned and repotted in a good fast draining compost. Then we will wire her and tidy up her bonsai. No signs of roots from the cuttings yet but we know from experience we need patience!
Gratitude practice update: We are growing our practice along with our plants and we are finding more and more reasons to be thankful. I find I’m most thankful for family and it inspires me to do extra little acts of kindness for them throughout my day. That makes the good feelings grow
We will update more later in the week.
