Well well here we are again! Another grow is on its way. This time around I am doing 4 Northern Lights Autoflower from Crossbone Genetics. This will also be somewhat of an experiment to see if there is a noticable difference with using the air domes or not. 2 plants with airdome 2 without. All 4 started direct in soil and all sprouted on by Day 4. Cracked the vents on humidity valves on Day 5 and turned the lights to 50% and 18/6 schedule, adjusting them to get 270-300 PPFD at plant level. Domes off Day 6 and fan lightly circulating air through the tent.

Well they've made it through the first week above ground and all the girls have started on their second set of leaves. We're looking thirsty on Day 14 so gave them 500ml each. Should see some good growth this upcoming week 🤞. Nice and easy at this stage, just keep em watered and make sure to refill the humidifier and were golden. Once the pots are ready to turn on will love them to the bigger tent.

Nice easy week, watered after 5 days 500ml per plant with the advanced nutrients in the mix. Girls perked up and sprouted more next day so a good move. Saw noticable growth in last three days of the week. PPFD has been 480-515 this week. Hoping to have the Autopots running by end of upcoming week but will depend on the girls growth 🤞 Funny thing, one of the plants has decided to naturally top herself 🤷‍♀️. Never had any damage to her and treated the same as the others, will have to keep my eye on this one she could end up being one special plant!

The time is finally here! As of Day 27 the girls have gotten big enough to be moved into their forever home (AC Infinity 4x4) and have been connected to the autopot system. Also started LST since they are already 8" or so and want to get the side branches caught up to the main. Nice and healthy too, great colour and growing at a good pace. Plant 3 (back right) has one leaf with some discoloration but will just monitor for now. I'm actually thinking I remember seeing it a week ago and nothing else has changed so 🤞. Lights are set to 80% and pushing 550-600 PPFD to the top of the plants. Will let the grow until getting 600-650 PPFD and then keep raising the light with growth rate.

Days 29-35 Wow these girls are picking up steam! As the week goes on have adjusted the ties twice to keep widening them out. So far 3 of 4 plants ore very even flat canopies. The front two have gotten more training than the back two, so will be neat to see the difference. So far the pots with air domes are about 20% bigger than the pots without, so the advertising seems close but will see as time goes on. Had to raise the two without domes by 4" to get them to same height as other two so as to keep the light levels the same. Still getting 600 PPFD at top of canopy, will let them get slightly closer to push up to 650 this week. Everyone looking healthy and happy, good colours and no more of the discoloured leaves on back right. No defoliation yet, but may have to do a slight cleanup on one of two of them soon as they're quite full. Seeing the first signs of flower on Day 32. Should see some big growth these next two weeks, time to flip to flower feed schedule. By end of week girls are transpiring enough that the humidifier is no longer needed.

For the most part a good week, but some issues popping up in the last few days. At beginning of week all was good, plants showing signs of flower and good color and looking happy. Third day of the week notice that the front right plant (self topper) was looking kinda sad. Next day the back right also looked sad. This was right after watering, so I check PH and it was around 5.6 where i usually keep it 5.8-6.2. So I PH the water, emptied the trays and let them refill with 5.9 PH from the reservoir. Plants looked happier an hour or so later. Checked on them in the morning about 2.5 hours from lights out, and all 4 plants looked droopy. Later when lights came on the two on left (airdomes) were perky but the two on the right while looking better were still sad. Checked again at lights off and all 4 girls are dropping hard. So today (day 7 of week) while I was at work I may have figured out the issue. The base nutrients I've been using are about 3 years old! I get home, dump the trays and reservoir, full clean (again) and refill reservoir with NEW nutrients. I've never seen the floats and trays SO dirty before! Brown sludge on everything, it's like the nutrients weren't properly mixing, probably due to age. Already had a full set of base ready to be used, just forgot about it 🤷‍♀️. So it's about 3 hours after the refill, and all the girls now look better, even front right is almost praying now. As a precaution I also raised the light by 2", bringing the PAR to 580. So now it's wait and see, hoping that they keep looking better and keep on doing their thing. There was quite a growth spurt, especially on the two plants with airdomes. Almost doubled in size this week and they're easily 10" bigger than their sisters who don't have the domes.

Well I thought I had the issues from last week fixed, but the leaf spotting came back mid week. So I ended up adding some cal-mag, which is something I usually don't use, but everyone I showed pics to said the same thing so here's to hoping it works! Will know if it doesn't keep spreading. Still only really effecting the two plants without airdomes. Wonder if it's something to do with less oxygen in root zone? At least they're looking happier now, even the smaller two perking up for most of lights on. Plants still dropping hard 3 hours before lights out, so am keeping the light at 550umol/s to see if that helps. 21.5"@80%. Could be that maybe they just need a bit less light than some other strains I've done 🤷‍♀️. Otherwise environment is on point, and the two plant with domes are rocking it right now. Happy and lots of bud sites filling in. Here's to hoping we got stuff fixed with the nute adjustments and will keep a daily eye on the res PH

Was a good week this week plant wise! Finally got the discoloration resolved, still feeding Cal-Mag and it seems to have done the trick. Will keep up to it and probably add to most grows going forward once flower hits. Also have been continuing to check the reservoir daily to keep PH at 5.9-6.2. Not taking a lot, but am having to add 1-3 ml of PH Down daily. The two girls on the right (no airdome) have grown noticeably this week, still 4" shorter than the biggest girl with some, but larger than the smaller one. #4 (front right) had even darkened back to a more "normal" colour. #3 (back right) seems to enjoy being a brighter more lime shade of green for now, but she looks happy otherwise, and even droops closer to lights out than #4. There was ONE hiccup this week, but luckily I caught it quickly so no real damage, but it was close! What happened? I had been noticing that the nutrients were not staying mixed even though new bottles, so I thought I would try without the UC Roots, thinking it was causing seperation. Turned out it was, but not of the nutrients, instead of my hard water 🤦‍♂️. Don't know why it didn't even cross my mind, but opened the tent Saturday morning (thankfully) and thought "hmm the leaves look dry on this one better check the valves.". Turns out, all 4 plants were dry!!!! I ran to workroom, grabbed the 4 spare autopot trays, put plants in new trays with water from res that I put in with a cup, then turned to figure out WTF happened. Turns out had a serious blockage between the reservoir and the valve just inside the tent. So changed out all the trays, valves, and reservoir as well as flushed the lines before refilling and turning system back on. So so so glad I caught it in the morning, if it had been evening I think I would have had some seriously damaged plants! So lesson learned, with hard water make sure to use a line cleaner, and to clean the valves every 2-3 weeks. Flush lines weekly going forward.

Pretty easy problem free week. Gave the girls a small leaf removal, maybe 30 leaves in total between the four of them. Just stuff that was center of plant under canopy shoveling up due to lack of light. Speaking of which, the canopy is nice and filled in now and can see a noticable difference of light intensity at the tent floor. Plants #3 and #4 seem to have stopped growing first day or so of the week and are now working on putting on flower weight. Even though same strain they are seeming maybe 5-7 days behind the #1 and #2. Wonder if has something to do with the airdomes? 🤷‍♀️. #2 is starting to show some leaf colour change already! She is much shorter than the rest, wonder if will be a different pheno? We shall see! Ooh exciting. So one thing I did change late week is I stopped using the well water and switched to RO water. Everything about advanced nutrients says use RO or water below .3EC if no RO available. My well water is higher than normal lately, which is probably what has been causing the slight issues and difficulty maintaining reservoir PH. Usually it's .3EC and lately it's been .5EC, makes a big difference! So I filled a bucket, mixed the nutrients properly, and let it sit for 2 days, no mixing nothing. Check PH, it's still 5.8 and zero sediment present! With the well water sediment was still present even with mixing every 30 minutes. The other new addition to the garden is I finally got a set of UV bars at the beginning of the week. The Spider farmer 40w UV/IR bars. No need for the IR, but I really like the mounting brackets, and the price was right at 100. Slight bit of stress visible on the plant closest to the lights (14in) but the others at 21" show no stress. Little stress is ok long as the buds don't start getting damaged. If so I'll just raise the lights and increase intensity to keep umol/s the same. Only at 80% right now so room to increase if needed.

Well all in all it was a good week this week. Did a mild defoliation on all 4 plants just to open up the middle canopy for better airflow on first day. Was surprised at how many buds are down there in the thick of it! Have not been defoliation much this run and it seems to be good so far 🤞. Mid week started noticing that a few of the plants (mainly #2/3) were getting spotty rust coloured edges on the leaves, so figured try some sensi-calmag rather than the off brand calmag that I tried last time. Have two waters with it and no noticable change, leaves are still browning, so will stop sensi after this reservoir is finished. Maybe it's the UV lights? The thing is other two plants are seemingly unaffected by the issue aside from one or two leaves but no progression other than that. So I'm thinking it's a nutrient thing 🤷‍♀️. Either way, will go back to straight standard formula and dial it back a touch see if we get some positive results. Ah well not to stress. Otherwise #2 is looking great and furthest along with #1 maybe 3-4 days behind. #3 is still pale but maybe that's just the way she wants to be for now, who knows. Will keep an eye on her in case. #4 is looking great, bounced back from issues earlier in the grow and is just started getting brown pistils a few days ago. Funny, the two plants without airdomes seem to be about a week behind the two with domes.

On the eve of Day 77 from seed the finish line is within sight! The two girls with the airdomes were switched to water and flawless finish on Day 75 because when checking the trichomes they were looking 70/30 cloudy/clear so time to get them ready for harvest on 7-10 days. #4 is maybe 5-7 days behind and #3 another 5-7 days behind that, so have kept them on the main reservoir with nutrients while #1 and #2 run on the backup reservoir for finish. Surprised my carbon filter is still holding up, she's on her second run and no smell outside the tent but inside it strong delicious old school weed smell. Haven't grown Northern lights in 5+ years, smell brings you right back! One thing to note, when changing the plants to finish reservoir I also changed out the valves and trays to clean sets, as well as let the plant drain water from it's pot before placing on new trays.

This is it, the last week has come and gone and harvest week is ahead! On Day 80 #3 and #4 were added to the finish reservoir for their last week. 80/20 cloudy/clear, so might be a day or two late but they'll be ok. #1 was harvested on Day 83 from Seed after 7 days of water and Flawless Finish. She was 10% reds maybe a little more so the time was right. #2 is still finishing, reds just starting at end of week so will be harvested in a few days. Wishing I had started flushing #4 a bit earlier, by end of week she's 15% reds, but only 4 days no nutrients so want to give a day or two more. #3 really came along fast this week, buds are lighter coloured but still looking like they will be a great smoke. Still 4-5 days to go for her I'm thinking.

Grew well despite a few errors on my behalf. Nice OG strain, grew fast and was pretty tolerant to temp swings. Strong smell last two weeks of flower, make sure your carbon filter is up to the task! Can't wait to get her dried, cured, and tried out! Will update then.

Well it was a good harvest week. Kept humidity around 45% and had lots of air movement. All the girls were harvested around 15-20% amber trichomes, with #4 closer to 30% reds. Into the dry tent at 20°C and 54-55% RH until the stems get snappy (usually 7-10 days) then cure for 2-3 weeks. #1 harvested on Day 84 #2 harvested on Day 87 #3 harvested on Day 91 #4 Harvested on Day 88 Was a fun OG strain to grow and as usual the breeder exceeded my expectations for an Autoflower. Can't wait to get it dried and tested! Still waiting on the final weights and THC testing, but I would say that the two plants with airdome are looking like yield will be 20-30% more than the plants without. Will be interesting to see if strength was also affected. Also the two plants with the domes had less issues, seemed healthier throughout, grew faster, and flowered a full week earlier than the two plants without airdomes. I run them to spec at 15 GPH per dome 24/7. Testing came through, 30% THC!!! 🤯

@Sleepy_tree, thanks for the nice words! I really enjoy doing these journals with the grows. I find that whenever I have issues I am always going back to old diaries to see what I did that did/didn't work the last time, especially if I've had the issue before. Keep an eye open for the final harvest update in 10-14 days 👍🤞
