Cloned about a 3 week ago from mother. First week of clone was straight water with the clones. Second and 3rd week keeping nutrients low. Will double nutrients on week 4.
Note halfway through week 3 clipped fan leaves are yellowing but new growth is good.
This is the 4th week from cutting of mother. I noticed clone 2 has the clipped fan leaves turning yellow. Clone 1 does not, so I'm hoping this is fairly normal. I've been keeping the nutrients half strength through this week and will switch to full strength next week.
I dropped the lights down to 18" to get an average of 580ppfd at the plants which gives 38 DLI for the clones right now.
Hoping that the roots take off on week 4 and I can put them in their permanent 3gal pots.
I looked at the roots and they are coming along well. Pruned off the yellow clipped fan leaves of clone 2. I am beginning to see good new growth on the top. Once the roots start to fill the current pots I will move them to 3 gal pots and remain in those pots until the end. I bumped up the nutrients to full strength and been mostly bottom watering in a tray and light watering from top. Typically water 3 times a week since they are in 4" pots, and depending on how the plants look.
Up potted them to a half gallon until I can free up room to put in 3 gal pots. I have too much space being taken up by vegetable Garden starts. The growth exploded from last week. I upped the nutrients to full strength per dosing of advanced nutrients. I will start LST next week and possibly start to flower in 2 weeks. My ppfd is sitting around 605 at 18" above canopy and temps hover between 77deg F during lights on and 72 lights off. next week I can put in permanent 3 gal pots and start to flower in 2 weeks. I am limited with my height in flower room to 70" to ceiling so I need to start flower around 18-24" tall. I could always LST during flower to keep canopy lower.
Up potted and moved clone 1 to flower room still under 18/6 light until I see new clone taken from it survives.
4/11/24 the clone taken from clone 1rooted and looks good so I switched flower room to 12/12 since the polar express auto seems to not be a good strain. I would rather maximize my clones potential and get what I can from the polar express.
This strain is looking very nice. Plants are growing great and they just started showing flowers at the tops today 4/17. Almost exactly 1 week from switching to 12/12. I had to raise the lights up since the par values were too high in some areas without Co2. I've been selective defoliate to keep from shading lower bud sites. I have a feeling I will get a bit of stretch next week and the following. Right now node spacing is very close.
I was correct last week about the stretch. They are growing nicely and bud sites are really becoming evident. Right now I think I'm at about a 25% stretch so far and maybe next week experience another 15-20% of original height at start of 12/12. I've been selectively removing leaves that are blocking bud sites. The one I performed LST and topped on has a lot more uniform canopy and bud sites, but the one not topped looks like it will have a massive main cola and nice side buds.
This strain is an amazing. It has been producing thick frosty buds already in 2 weeks. The stretch wasn't that bad, maybe 30% of preflower height. I moved the light up to 14" from 12" since my ppfd was over 1000 and I don't have co2. Brought down the ppfd to around 900 in the center and 800ish around the rest of the plants. It appears it is going to be a huge resin producer with fat, dense, white buds. Cannot wait to see how this finishes.
Into week 3 of flower for this strain and the buds are becoming extremely frosty. It is packing trichomes on top of trichomes and even on the fan leaves. This is going to be a heavy resin producer. Looking at how they are progressing I wish I would have done LST on both because it reacted very well.
I highly recommend LST and topping the plant at least 2 weeks prior to flower. This strain reacts very well to it and getting an even canopy of big frosty buds is great. I must say that in the past 2 weeks the smell has become very steong. Be sure to seal whatever air leak you have in your flower space if you are concerned about smell. I use a 6 inch AC infinity long filter and it handles the 2 plants decently. As soon as you open the door to the flower side a wall of fruity-ish smell hits you.
The resin production is amazing. I have never had a plant produce so much.
I forgot to take pics this week. The trichomes on the sugar leaves which are stacked, have been turning amber. There are still a lot of clear and cloudy on the flowers itself, bit all over the plant the sugar leaves are ambering. It keeps pumping out new flowers and white hairs. Also it has been shifting to a purple color which is amazing. I've been lucky the nights lately have been getting into the high 50's F. I can pull cold fresh air in while it's lights on keeping my temps around 78 and at lights off low 60s.
I forgot to take Pics again. It has been a busy couple weeks with the family. I've had a battle with fungus gnats lately and it aucks. The buds are so sticky and coated with trichomes they work better at catching the gnats than the sticky traps. Been adding neem oil to watering and spraying. Not really doing anything. Going to try hydrogen peroxide in watering to kill larva.
The plants keep packing on weight with new white flowers and hairs while the trichomes keep building as well. I've noticed the plant in the smaller 1.5gal pot is fading much faster than the 3 gal. I will chop it probably sooner than the larger pot. I learned a lesson in this grow which is go as big of a container as you can fit in the room. I have a feeling if I would have gone 7gal or 10gal I would have had much better yield and less watering. All future grows will be minimum 10gal or 15.
I cut the smaller plant down that was in a smaller container to make room for other plants that were crowding in the veg room. It probably had another week to bulk up, but trichomes were looking good and I was swapping it with a bigger French macaroon plant. It started really showing ripness in majority of fan leaves turning yellow. I pulled it a week early.
The main buds keep packing on new fat calyx with white hairs on the clone 2 that was LST. The trichomes keep getting farther and farther down the smaller fan leavesand all sugar leaves are coated top and bottom. The color has changed over the past 3 weeks to a purple hue. Not overly dark purple. This should go the full 9 weeks. All the old hairs are turning a nice orange
Last week of flower. She keeps packing on fat calyx on top of buds. I was hoping for more purple to show up and it might with the flush this week, but it sill looks great. The smell has shifted from a fruityness to something I can't quite figure out. Still smells good.
The buds are so heavy and rock hard I had to support the main stalk as it kept leaning farther to one side. Eveything is coated with so many trichomes even starting to get on the large fan leaves. The resin production should be great. I highly recommend this strain. I have 2 more clone from this. 1 which is in flower now and is even bigger, the other in my high tunnel outside.
This strain is amazing. Super frosty and the buds are rock hard. I suggest wait an extra week at the end of flower before harvest. The buds really pack on new large calyx the last week. The First smaller one yielded 3.68 oz including all the sugar leaf trim shown in the sticky note Pic. Second larger pot yielded.....
I learned a lesson to use a bigger container for future grows. My smaller plant was small due to the 3gal container. My larger plant was in a 5gal and grew much better. My buds are much larger on the bigger container. I will be using minimum 7gal from now on. Smaller plant I harvested 2 weeks earlier and had 3.68oz dry. Larger plant 2 has wet weight of 630g.
I pulled clones from the larger one before flower to test pure organic nutrients and soil I'm am building against advanced nutrients and happy frog soil. New diary to come in the future with the comparison.
