First Grow- BF Laughing Buddha, RQS Dance World, BF Shiskaberry, RQS White Widow, RQS O.G. Kush
We started with a 2x4 tent but quickly decided to upgrade. We also ended up adding 3 more seeds to this grow all about a week or so later then the first 3 seeds we planted. So we will end up waiting for the O.G. Kush and when she is ready to switch from veg to flower.
With each of the seeds I did the following for germination: Added a couple tablespoons of hydrogen peroxide to a mason jar to speed up germination. Soaked seeds for about 10 hours then transferred them to a paper towel. Dampened the paper towel and put them in a plastic bag, leaving the bag open about an inch to allow airflow. Germinated the seeds on paper tower for roughly 24 hours with the heat mat set to 80F. Once I pulled the seeds out, all three showed a little tail. I then planted the sprouts into a rock wool bed for a week to grow.
Transferred all to a 3 gallon pot after each had a about a week to grow. Again they are a little spread out in days from growing from each other. Been completely filling up the pot with water until I see run off then only watered when the pots are completely dry.
Starting to see some leaves really growing in on the start of the week day 15.
At the end of the week Day 20 the first 3 girls have enough nodes that I decided to top them to allow the back girls to catch up.
The first three girls (Shiskaberry, Dance World, Laughing Buddha) are looking healthy and already growing more stems after topping them last week. The back three girls (O.G. Kush Shiskaberry, White Widow) are stretching up and growing its first sets of leaves.
At the end of week 3 some of the girls started showing some brown spots and some browning on the leaves. After asking a grow question, I think the culprit might be my misting them under an led and possible ph balance issues. Some people also suggested it might be calcium defiency. We have very hard water with lots of calcium so I think adjusting the ph might help, next watering I am going to ph it to 6.3 to test it out.
I found that my list misting and some PH issues might be the culprit for the brown spots on my girls. I am going to be misting them less often and adjusting the PH just a bit lower to see if it helps. Otherwise the girls are looking healthy just wish that they would grow more upwards!
Day 32 for the first 3 girls (Shiskaberry, Laughing Buddha, and Dance World) and it looks like they were out growing their pots. We decided to go ahead and transfer them to 5 gal pots. We used Mykos to help the girls roots after the transfer. We also fed the girls with Big Grow, Big Bloom and Cal/Mag from Fox Farms.
Topped Laughing Buddha, Shiskaberry and Dance World again and did some light defoliation on the bottom. Moved White Widow to a larger pot. Also we started the larger pots with fabric bags but quickly decided that they did not work well. The fabric pots kept leaking when watering from the sides and it was hard to tell if we watered them fully in the bags. We decided to go with larger plastic pots and will be transferring all of the girls to them.
Day 39 for the first 3 girls (Shiska, LB, and Dance World) and Day 32/29 for the last 3 girls (Shiska#2, White Widow, and OG Kush) and we transferred all the the ladies into the larger plaster pots, fed and watered them. T
Day 40 for Shiska and LB and I finally was able to tie the big girls down, also added our second light and a CO2 bag
Our girls our starting to smell a little kind of like a smoky scent.
I have been tying down branches to try to keep the girls level. I made a mistake and pulled a little too hard on one of the branches and it began to snap at the base (trunk). I wrapped it back to the trunk with gorilla tape. Hopefully, in a week or so it will heal. If you look closely at Shiskaberry #1, you can see where I taped her in the middle. The first 3 girls are way ready to go into flower. However, I want to wait a bit so the 3 other set of girls to catch up to their size before switching.
You can start to see the first little signs of bud growing on my ladies. Just added the SCROG net for the girls to grow into. RQS site suggested 7.8 inches from the base to set the net and Vivosun's site suggested 12-18 inches from the growing medium. I decided to set the net at 14 inches from the growing medium as a compromise between the two. I also defoliated the girls some to allow lower bud sites to have more light. Lastly, I flushed the girls with bush doctor sledgehammer this week to get rid of any salt build up.
Little white "hairs" are starting to show. Growth and height are looking good. Just going to do some more defoliation this week on any leaves covering bud sites.
*Update: Did a full lollipop on my girls for the last time. Bud sites are already starting to look big, so excited!
Week 4 into flower, Dance World is looking pretty slow to forming buds. However, O.G. Kush the girl who was planted last is now the star of the tent and is the tallest/biggest buds so far. Just going to continue to defoliate and remove any leaves covering up bud sites.
Week 5 into flower and some of the ladies are already showing signs of maturing with some red hairs and trichomes growing in. Having to water almost every other day now. We also decided to get another AC Infinity grow tent fan, we felt that the bigger fan was taking up too much space in the grow tent. The little fans work great too!
Did another sledgehammer flush this week to get rid of any build up in the soil. Getting closer to harvest time for the girls, thinking they may be done in another month. We bought a jewelers loop to take a look at the trichomes, we will be looking for when they begin to turn cloudy.
All the ladies are looking good at the start of their 7th week in flower. The iPower Smart Ventilation system is working great to keep the smell at a minimum. The frost on these girls is looking beautiful. Just doing light defoliation now as needed and moving the buds around as the tent becomes more crowded. I live in California and the heat is getting high in the summer, luckily the fans and some A/C has been helping to keep a little heat off the ladies. However, the tent does become quite hot in the afternoon.
*Update: was starting to see a little bit of nutrient burn so I decided to just give the girls some PH tap water and sludgehammer them at the end of the week.
Week 8 of flower and Shiskaberry is starting to show signs of finishing up. Many bud sites aren't showing as many white pistils anymore and the trichomes are looking good. I am thinking another week and Shiskaberry may be the first to finish up. I will giving Shiskaberry only PH water from now until harvest. The other girls still look like they still want to grow. It is extremely hot in California during the summer. California is also one of the most expensive states for electricity. We keep our AC off during the night due to this. I think the girls maybe getting a little hot after the AC is off not sure if that it the reason why some of the leaves are drooping on Laughing Buddha?
Week 9 of flower with 3 girls remaining in the tent. With more room in the tent I was able to spread out their branches a bit more with the trellis. They are all starting to show signs of autumn now too. Again Laughing Buddha and Dance World are looking a little sad, I think it is the heat... Just giving the girls PH water now.
OG Kush in the beginning looked like a runt and grew a bit oddly. However, she surprised us, she was the last girl to be planted in my tent but was the quickest to flower. It wasn't long after switching to flower that she shot up in height. I think that I should have trained her a bit earlier and maybe harvested a couple of weeks later. Overall, I am very satisfied with the strain and will grow again. I will update with rosin and smoke review later.
Shiskaberry #2 though planted later than her sister in the tent, finished first. I think I made too many rookie mistakes with her unfortunately. I started training too late and was not gentile enough with my training. I pulled too hard on one of the branches and split her in the middle of her trunk! I think because of my harsh training she got a little over stressed making her want to finish up faster. I will have to remember the "
L" in LST. Still I am satisfied by the amount of trichomes on her. I will have a rosin and smoke review later.
White Widow had much smaller stems then the other girls in the tent. She really needed the help of the trellis to stay up when her buds started to get heavier. She was very easy to train and produced a "snowy" looking product. I will post smoke and rosin review later.
