Trying to start a perpetual harvest. I don't sell my stuff but I will give it away to friends/family and I smoke a lot so I'm wanting a constant supply and I fully enjoy just the growing aspect of it all.
Evening of 5/10/24 - Placed a seed in a small cup of water for ~20 hours then placed in a damp paper towel.
5/12/24 - Tap root has emerged from the seed. Gonna wait for it to grow a little longer before planting in its final home, probably gonna have to be in the morning before I go to work.
5/13/24 - Tap root ~1/2" long, planted in soil
5/15/24 - Seedling has emerged from soil
5/16/24 - Watered
5/19/24 - Watered
5/21/24 - Possible problem, veins are a lighter shade of green and a deformed leaf. Don't know what it is. Second set of leaves are coming in so I'll see how they look when they've developed more.
6/5/24 Start of week 4 - pistils are coming in. Fed 1/2 gallon w/1ml FloraMicro, 1ml FloraBloom and 1ml Cal-Mag.
6/8/24 - I think she might be looking a little better, she's still looking pretty rough though. Looking at the pictures, it's obvious where things went wrong. Watering that half gallon was a mistake. Idk why I did it, I guess I wanted to get a feeding in. But in past grows I wasn't giving that much water until they were full sized. I'm a little worried about the roots though. The soil and pot was holding onto a lot of water and feels like it still has a good bit in it. So they might not be in very good shape. I'm not not even gonna think about watering until that soil is for sure DRY!
6/10/24 - Cut a couple small holes towards the bottom of the pot to feel how wet the soil was. There wasn't as much moisture as I previously thought, the pot feels very heavy though which was the main reason for thinking there was more water in it. Fed last night (6/9/24), ~15ml of Fox Farm Big Bloom + 10ml of Fox Farm Tiger Bloom + 2ml Cal-Mag plus in 1/2 gallon of water. Apparently I live in an area with some of the cleanest drinking water in the country. So letting tap water sit out to dechlorinate isn't too much of a big deal for me. 8 contaminates found out of 150 tested and all either naturally occurring, byproducts of disinfection + 2 additives (fluoride and chlorine). Anyways, 12 hours later and she's looking much better. I'm thinking about switching to coco/coco+perlite mix for the next run. I want more control over watering and feeding and be able to identify and fix any issues that arise.
6/12/24 Start of week 5
6/13/24 - Watered about 1/2 gallon pH'd water and defoliated some.
6/15/24 - Fed 1.5l water w/Big Bloom - 1tbsp + Tiger Bloom - 1tsp + Calmag - 1.5ml
Been tying down branches for a more even canopy...I think it's working out. It's not totally even but she doesn't look like a Christmas tree either.
6/17/24 - Probably made a mistake. I forgot I fed two days ago and I just fed again tonight...oops. I'm using organics so maybe it won't be as bad.
On a better note...I'm feeling quite proud of myself for that canopy. Comparing a photo from yesterday (6/16/24) and one from minutes ago (6/17/24), the difference is crazy. I'm not used to seeing results that fast from anything, plant related or not. Cannabis plants never cease to amaze me. I love these plants, I only wish I was better at caring for them.
6/19/24 - Start of week 6 - She looks a little hungry but the soil is wet. I've got the canopy pretty flat and as even as I can. For my first real attempt I think it looks pretty good. I've used LST in all my grows but never really tried to use it in a more beneficial way like this.
6/20/24 - Fed ~1/2 gallon w/30ml Big Bloom + 10ml Tiger Bloom + 2ml Cal-mag in 1 gallon tap water (Tap EC comes in at 42 ppm)
6/21/24 - I'm keeping an eye out over the next day or two but I think I'm getting better at feeding. At least with this one I am anyways.
6/26/24 - Start of week 7. I've been trying to keep the canopy as even as possible.
6/30/24 - Fed ~1/2 gallon w/2 Tablespoons Big Bloom + 6ml Tiger Bloom + 1ml Cal-Mag. Color change is starting. She's turning purple, almost black. I've been waiting for this :)
7/3/24 - Start of Week 8, more and more purple every day.
7/8/24 - Plucked some leaves here and there. Been watering and feeding as needed. I've reduced the amount of water I give compared to previous runs. At this point I would've been giving close to 1gal. every few days. Cut back to around 1qt+ but I've decided not to water/feed on a set schedule. I'd like to flush the soil but things are going so well I'm worried I'll fuck something up.
7/10/24 - Start of week 9
I did an EC check on the run off after watering and it was over 3.0, I think it was 3.15 to be exact, basically double what I feed. There looks to be a calcium deficiency, which would make sense. Last night after checking run-off EC I decided to flush the medium. Took her outside and went to work with the garden hose. After about a gallon+/- I would stop and drain the pot, picking it up and holding it at a ~45 degree angle and keeping it there until there wasn't a steady stream leaving the pot. I believe this really reduced the chance of over-watering as 24+hrs later and she's shown no signs but seems happy or content. I managed to get the EC down to 1.07 (about 750ppm minus 42 ppm from the tap water) and had to call it quits since it was getting late. I put 4 gallons from gallon containers through the medium before using the garden hose so not sure how much water I put through it. I'm gonna wait for the medium to get pretty dry before doing another flush.
7/13/24 (Day 60) - Many of the fan leaves showing calcium deficiency which I'm positive is from the flushing. I'm not sure if I want to start feeding again or just water until harvest. I don't really believe flushing the last couple weeks for an increase in yield or anything is actually true, so feeding until harvest can always be an option for me. Or if I just wanna water the last couple weeks, maybe mix some cal-mag in with it? Might do that, just water + cal-mag. It'll make me feel better if anything at all. I'm more than pleased with how it's turning out so far though. Such a beautiful plant and very exciting watching the color shift.
7/17/24 - Start of week 10, getting close. I've always harvested early but I'm letting this one go. I know I've been missing by chopping early so lets see what happens.
More than happy with this one. Another exciting grow, on to the next one. Will give smoke report once dried
Wet bud weight is after 2nd day of drying @~72F/50%RH. I'm using my closet so temps and humidity fluctuate based on time of day. Afternoon the humidity drops to around 40% and climbs back up to about 60% at night, stays around ~70F. Gonna be a quick dry, already dry enough to smoke in a bowl.
