This is my first grow so any advice or critique is welcome.
Started seeds in shot glass then planted into jiffy pellet that was already in the final pot with the liner removed. I work from home and my desk is next to my tent so I water frequently.
Planted the seeds 1-4 starting with biggest root to smallest.
2 & 3 sprouted 1st with 1 not far behind at around 24 hours or so.
4 just sprouted today on day 5 so I may have a runt on my hands or may need to soak seed longer next time.
Day 7 from seed: uploaded updated pics. Still not sure how I should be watering these but they look ok so far so I'll just keep going until they don't.
Upped nutrient intake a bit. Started with only 1ml calmag and .5 of each FF nute.
Rotated plants and cleaned bases.
Switched to 24 hour schedule because lights out is a headache to maintain environmental parameters with weather fluctuating like it has. Will go back to 20/4 schedule once summer is in full gear.
Lights were at top of tent at 80%. Using DLI set lights 40% at 26 inches.
Week 1 in the books. Looking forward to a healthy week 2.
Not sure how it's going, looks good so far to my noob eye, but wondering if they're dropping a bit or if they look ok.
5/31 looking better today.
5/31 around 11pm I noticed an issue with plants sagging and dark green leaves. Research indicates likely nitrogen overdose. I upped calmag from 2ml/g to 5 so that may have done it. Watered them with some distilled water to flush it out hopefully. Lights go out at 2am until 6am so Ill check them again at that time. Any second opinions are welcome.
6/1 well that seemed to work because as soon as The lights came back on They looked bigger
and better than ever.
6/3 wrapping up week here soon. I think I'm overwatering. I didn't water today and the pots are still very heavy. I've been seeing symptoms of overwatering according to my research. I've turned down the light power this week from 40% to 30%. I am not going to water them at all today just to see how they react. At first it was just plant one showing the symptoms but now two and three are slightly as well. I have green algae on top of the coco which I have found out is another symptom of overwatering. They are still growing very fast well from what I can tell but I'm wondering if they can be growing even faster If I slow down on the watering a little. When I go to work tonight I will check them for lights out at midnight and see how they did without water today. Checked runoff pH and PPM and everything looks great there. Temps stay in the 70 to 75 range with humidity 58 to 65. I recently moved my humidity target down from 65 to 60.
Starting off week 3 still seeing the droopiness so I'm going to invest in a pH pen instead of the drop test to make sure everything's locked in correctly.
6/6 ph looks fine. Haven't watered in well over 48 hours and pots are still heavy. Will water with pH dustilled water before giving nutes again as nitrogen toxicity symptoms still showing.
Figured out what the issue was. Amazon sent the soil version of grow big which has double the nitrogen as the hydro formula. They are sending the right stuff so it should be here today and I now have a free bottle for my soil grow. I knew something wasn't right!
Pots were starting to dry a bit so I fed to runoff with calmag and big bloom. Hoping to see continued improvement.
6/8 plants have turned around big time without the overdose of soil based grow big. Amazon sent the wrong bottle again So I just ordered grow big hydro from a different company.
6/10 wrapping up week 3 plants are booming now that I have the right nutes going in.
Starting week 4 off with daily LST and great growth.
6/16 plant 2 is sprouting pistils now. All 4 plants growing well with continued daily LST.
6/18 getting ready to wrap up week four and the plants are doing awesome. Insanely bushy and making LST a bit of a challenge.
Plants are looking great with continued lst. Plant 1 was accidentally topped by tie but has shown no stunting at all. Being a little careful moving the plants around now since they're in a fabric pot and they're flexibility can cause adverse reactions when moving them with plant tips and stems tied to them.
Defoliated front two plants and they did fine so I went ahead and did the back 2 as well. Buds are starting to form really nicely. Increased nutrients and light level again. I can't get the humidity down in my tent so I'll be searching for a dehumidifier soon. It's averaging between 55 and 65%, but One of the specific characteristics of this strain That led me to go with this specific one is that it is resistant to mold So hopefully I'm not hurting anything but definitely wanting to get that down closer to 50 at least if 40 is unachievable.
Had to defoliate again, only did two so far but going to defoliate the other two today or tomorrow hopefully. These things just don't stop growing. Noticing a little nute burn at the tips so I am going to feed pH water only next time to hopefully flush it out and then possibly cut back on the nutes a bit. Not sure if the defoliation has caused them to intake more of the nutrients but that's my best guess so I'm going to dial it back a little bit. Light is at 90% power and around 16 inches from plant. I had it up to 100 but it was a little too high for them so I backed off a bit. I have been watering about every 24 to 36 hours or so because one gallon is keeping them fed. I go by the weight of the pot when I lift it. Once I realized that my nutrients were automatically perfecting my pH level I just stopped checking and results have been fine. I have not been checking pH TDS EC none of that stuff because it's just been working. I'm running low on Fox farm nutrients and will be switching to Jack's 321 eventually. I really like the Fox Farms results but being organic they aren't ideal for the self-watering bases I want to use and it's much cheaper as well. I'm going to make the switch whenever these run out but I'm thinking they may last till the end of this grow so not sure yet stay tuned. It's my first grow so I don't want to do too much But one thing about these plants is they are very durable. I have defoliated the absolute hell out of these, broken branches while training, and they just keep eating and growing without any signs of stress at all. If there has been any stunting I wouldn't know because I'm not an expert with this being my first grow. After this batch is done I'm going to run the same strain again and try some different things to see what results I get and try to improve on them. Not sure when I'm supposed to cut these but from my research it should be first week of August to mid-August sometime. Very nervous but looking forward to it as well. Sorry for the lack of updates lately life has been very hectic I will try to stay on top of it at least week to week though from here on out. So far so good!
