Hello, fellow growers! 🌿✨
Welcome back to another exciting update on our Divine Seeds Auto Run. We’ve hit Week 4 of flowering, and things are really starting to heat up in the garden. This week, we focused on a critical technique: defoliation. Let’s dive into the details and see how the plants are responding as they move deeper into the flowering stage.
🌟 Week 4 Highlights 🌟
As we approach the middle of the flowering cycle, all the plants are thriving, with beautiful bud development and rich foliage. But this week was all about defoliation—a technique that, when done right, can really elevate your grow.
1. Defoliation:
• What It Is: Defoliation involves selectively removing leaves from your plants, particularly fan leaves, to improve light penetration and airflow. This technique is especially valuable during flowering as it helps ensure that every bud site gets the energy it needs to develop fully.
• Why We Did It: Our goal was to open up the canopy, allowing more light to reach the lower bud sites and increasing airflow throughout the plant. This helps prevent mold and mildew, encourages even bud development, and ultimately leads to denser, more potent flowers.
• How We Did It: We carefully removed large fan leaves that were blocking light from reaching the lower buds, focusing on leaves that were shading important growth areas. The key here is balance—removing enough to make a difference, but not so much that the plant becomes stressed.
2. Plant Response:
• Moon Rock 🚀: After defoliation, Moon Rock responded with an impressive burst of energy. The lower bud sites are now getting more light, and you can already see them thickening up.
• Opium 🌸: Opium took to the defoliation beautifully, with improved airflow making the entire plant look more open and airy. The buds are starting to stack up nicely.
• Big Demon 💪: As expected, Big Demon handled the defoliation like a champ. This plant’s robust growth means it’s still pushing out new leaves, but the defoliation helped redirect its energy into those big, beautiful buds.
🌟 Environmental and Nutrient Strategy 🌟
Our current environmental parameters and nutrient strategy are as follows:
• Water:
• TDS: 400 ppm
• pH: 6.2
• Temperature: 18°C
• Grow Room Conditions:
• Temperature: 30.3°C
• Relative Humidity (RH): 51%
The environment remains stable, and the plants are thriving under these conditions. The Lumatek Zeus 465 Compact Pro LED is doing a fantastic job of providing consistent, even lighting, which is crucial now that we’ve opened up the canopy.
🌟 Defoliation: The Science and Benefits 🌟
Why Defoliate?
• Light Penetration: By removing larger fan leaves, we ensure that light can reach all parts of the plant, not just the top colas. This leads to more uniform bud development and higher overall yields.
• Improved Airflow: Better airflow reduces the risk of mold and mildew, particularly in dense canopies where moisture can get trapped.
• Energy Redirection: Defoliation helps the plant focus its energy on bud development rather than maintaining unnecessary foliage.
When to Defoliate?
• Timing: Week 4 of flowering is an ideal time for defoliation. At this stage, the plant has established its structure, and we can remove leaves without hindering growth. This also gives the plant time to recover and redirect its energy into the buds before the final push toward harvest.
How Much to Remove?
• Less is More: It’s important to strike a balance. Removing too many leaves can stress the plant and slow down growth. The key is to be selective—remove the leaves that are truly blocking light or restricting airflow.
🌟 Key Observations 🌟
• Plant Health: All plants are healthy and showing no signs of stress post-defoliation. The buds are thickening, and trichome production is ramping up.
• Growth Patterns: The defoliation has led to a noticeable improvement in light distribution and bud development across all plants.
• Environmental Control: We continue to maintain optimal conditions with the help of the Lumatek LED and TrolMaster Hydro X controller, ensuring that our plants have the perfect environment for flowering.
🌱 Next Steps 🌱
As we move forward:
• Monitoring Bud Development: We’ll keep a close eye on the buds as they continue to develop, ensuring they get all the light and nutrients they need.
• Maintaining Optimal Conditions: We’ll continue to monitor and adjust the environment as needed to support healthy flowering.
• Feeding and Watering: Our nutrient strategy remains focused on supporting flowering with a balance of nutrients and maintaining consistent watering practices.
Stay tuned for more updates as we move deeper into the flowering stage. We’re excited to see the results of this week’s defoliation and share every milestone with you on this incredible journey!
Happy growing, and may your gardens be ever green! 🌿💚
