Two free Sugar Mango Ryder seeds from World of Seeds. First one sprouted immediately. The other one was a dud. Had troubles during seedling from my first grow. So, trying to raise seedlings in paper cup so I can transplant easier. Rigged up closet grow box from shoe shelf and book end piece held together with duct tape. Light source is an 18 watts full spectrum LED with aluminium fins. And I put in a timer switch. Soil is 2/3 peat moss with 1/3 pumice.

Really a vigorous plant. Data sheet does not do her justice. Day 10 she had outgrown my tiny seedling station. So, I transplanted against good wisdom. Day 12, she seemed okay with he larger container. So I pinched off her top leaving 3 pairs of leaves. Not feeding her yet because she is a hybrid.

SMR seemed to recover from having her top pitched off and transplanting well. She is so fast and I don’t mind slowing her veg down. Adding foilar fertilizer- spray twice a week. - half strength 21-21-21 fertilizer 1.5 g/liter - full strength Sea weed extract 2 ml / liter

Responded well to foliag fertilizer 21-21-21 and sea weed. Half strength twice this week. 4 fits full manure added with B1 root promoter. I used the left over solution to spray on my Clive plants and burned them to crisp. So, SMR, or this Pheno, is not a fragile babe. At week 4, she is still vegging and giving faint perfume that remind me of Planck. Fantastic growth in my inept hands. Near her is a mildew infested bush. And SMR is healthy and smiling in the 11 hours light balmy stale air. For her, I have only love an nothing else. She is growing taller and more voluptuous than my other tropical sativa auto’s that are seven weeks old. A real Brazilian beauty.

After a month, Sugar Mango Ryder is over a foot tall and healthy though out the growth, pistils started to show but I am still calling this week as veg. Could be “pre-flowing” stage. I took a look at the bottom of the container and saw some root. So, I moved the container down from the pedestal to the ground. So, if she want to extend her roots to compete with the local, she is welcome. Continuing to spray with 21-21-21 foilar/sea weed at half strength x twice a week. Stop feeding with manure and bought bat guano to feed during the next two weeks or so.

Oh gods and all things that are sacred to cannabis - hear my prayer- don’t let me fuck up now. So far, Sugar Mango Ryder is so forgiving but she is so fast. These are likely to be the last three weeks of nutes. At the this week, I added three handful of bat guano. Smelled like a cave. There was a bat carcass that came in the bag. So, this is a genuine bat dung. Also add trichoderma into the soil. Started to spary with a quarter strength 9-19-34 foilar fertilizer with trichoderma. PH is high at 6.8 despite the doses of 0.025% vinegar. (2 liter of 5% vinegar to 20 liter of water). After the dose, pH is down to 6.5 and back to 6.8 by next morning. I have put her container on soil so her roots would have some extra space.

Fantastic strain - easy to grow. Resistance to heat, over water, over fed, and weird things that I do to her. This week I started by fondling her and splitted the trunk virtually near the ground. Repaired with rubber band stemmed to be okay after 24 hours. On the other hand. I can’t imagine that she will be ready in 60 days.

Stop adding guano to soil otherwise it’ll be too difficult to flush later. Stop staying mute to be safe. And Buds seemed to be filling out okay. Comparing to other grow journals here, I think it’ll be sometime before she is ripe. Add solution of 250 ppm Calcium Silicate and 40 ppm Magnesium once to soil.

Different challenges as temp is heating up and plants is going through mid flowering stage. Day temperature is around 36 degree C. And leave surface temperature is around 50 degree C midday. Sugar leaves are getting bigger but crystal trichome became oil slick. And a few fan leaves lost colors. There is also less smell. I think terpenes are evaporating away. Intentionally not doing anything but watering everyday for a week.

Bud rot! I saw one or two spot with brown buds and picked it out to inspect. It was bud rot. So I had to cut off about half the growth height. Little yield is better than no yield. Tried to salvage some bud without rot. I am quickly drying these salvaged buds so mold do not spread. Even when they are not ready, I'll get the taste of my first grow. So ironic to think that I was worrying about harvesting period and what o do with fox tail buds. Lesson learned - don't spray during flower. And trichome does not come off the hand so easily. My hands will have nice smell all day. Do use gloves when trim. Current status: remaining bud trichome are a little cloudy but mostly clear. The bottom buds are young. Pray that with chopped off top, mould doe not spread.

Bud rot kind of settle the question when to harvest. After decapitation, there seemed to be no new rot. I am waiting for lower buds to mature a little more. But if i see any sign of more rot, I'll harvest. From salvaged bud, I soaked in water for two days. Air dried for another three days. My location was on a balcony. I put buds on a strainer and then place the strainer inside a card board box during the day. At night, I took the strainer out. I now have about 2 grams of dark ugly fluffy buds. I tossed out buds with visible sign of rot. The sample buds are in a bottle. I am waiting for my roll paper for the first test smoke of my grow. This is the furthest that I have gone with my grow, So, the journey with Sugar Mango Ryder continues a little longer.

Banana, asin Kevin and Bob from the Minions, showed up on the plant. Yeah, conditions called for hermie. Heat, pruning, bugs, rot all stressed the plant. With all other things that had happened, lady boy dongs should only add to my grow experience. After I pinched of these banana's, they spilled yellow pixie dust which will likely to pollinate everything else. So, first reaction is to contain the damage by spraying the soil with water. And on inspection, there was one more bud rot spot on one lower branch. And trichome looks okay enough. Could have more amber, but it is good enough. Most important, I had fantastic time with the test buds. So, decision was to chop chop. On the test buds, I called my son for his bong. This is one topic that got him to my house very quickly. It was a small bong and the bowl contains about a fifth of a gram. Like 0.20 gram per bowl. With water cure, the smoke was very smooth. There was not a lot of test nor smell. So smooth it was like breathing through a thick fog rather than smoking weed. There was some mild cough but less than usual. And we were fine with not having test nor smell. Well aware that indica takes some time to take effect so we waited. Well, both of us have things to do later, so we decided to clean up after only one bowl. But we could not. Neither father nor son could get up. Our asses were stuck on the floor. And some stars did came out in the middle of the day. We are sitting there smiling and waited for happy half an hour before we could get up and went to sleep for another hour. I read on some review that this is good for walking and readying - musta have been made by some real stoner with high tolerance. For me, this is when relaxation is called for. It's making sure that there is nothing to be done for a couple of hours before lighting up. If we were to take a few bowls, i don’t think we can move. Additional benefit, my son had a bad fall with swollen angle and scrapes. He had been limping for a week. After one bowl of SMR, pain went away while the stone lasted. And swelling came down the next morning. Growing in the tropical outdoor was not easy. But the stone is great. No sativa bag weeds can compare. My next report will be harvest report after tallying up dry weight (water curing).

How to activate THC in infused vodka. I have been adding trim and loose buds to a bottle of 80 prof (40%) vodka. The cannabis were in added in mixed conditions. Some buds were added fresh. Most bus and trims were watered cured and dried. And a batch was cooked.

Your weed needs to go through a decarboxylation process to turn THCA into THC. Put it in the oven for 25 minutes at 250 Fahrenheit. Personally I would dry the weed in a traditional fashion (not water cured)let it cure for a few weeks to breakdown the chlorophyll a bit then do a decarboxylation process. Next you set up a double boiler one pan with water with another smaller pan inside that one which will hold the vodka and ground up decarb. weed. heat it to about 150-160 Fahrenheit for a couple of hours to infuse the vodka. You will lose some vodka do to evaporation. Do not let it heat up to 170 F or higher or the alcohol will boil off. When finished filter the vodka through cheese clothe and then a coffee filter. You know what to do with it after that.

This is my first harvest from poorly prepared start. SMR grew fast and strong. She yielded extraordinary potent weed with narcotic effect. On growing, I made big mistakes. I topped her and transplanted her. She did not like that. I grow outdoor and it would have been better to leave her alone. She also stood up to over watering and overfeeding well. She survived 38 degree C heat and 80% humidity with 12 hours sun through most of her life cycle. yet she put our crazy dense nugget. SMR did exceptionally well up to bud rot. Lost half of the nugget. However, I think it is fair as WoS did say to look out for mold issues. This is a fine strain if you don't have to handle hot and humid climate. To do better, I need to: 1) leave her alone and not top her. 2) Take care of seedling inside. 3) Grow 8 plants in smaller space out door. 4) Grow in dry season. 5) Work with a feed schedule.

The stone was so strong. Has to be careful on which occasion to smoking SMR. It can totally incapacitated smoker with one small bowl. There were leaves and buds on trims. After drying, there was small amount of trichome on trims. So, I put these trims in a vodka bottle. I I did try the trim infused vodka. It does not supposed to have stoning effect without decarboxylation but it did get me a stone. I took one drink before I worked out in the gym. After 30 minutes of running, suddenly I was lazy. A little later, I got in to my weight routine. And I became Master Rochi in Dragon ball. Pumping iron with no pain. I knew it wast SMR doing this and stop myself from lifting too hard. With infused vodka, the stone was mild but lasted 4 hours. Infusing trims made vodka tasted a bit like alcoholic tea. I do like the taste but this is not a party drink. People will get drunk and fall asleep all over. I like water curing. It is fast. Little smell during drying. Leaves almost came off by themselves after three days in warm water. So trimming is simplified. The product has very little smell and aroma. Weight is reduced as there is less vegetable matters. Not for commercial grower. Great for space saving. Also burned really clean. I decarboxylate with 4 minutes in the microwave follows by 120 degree C for 20 minutes in air fryer. So I have the med that is ready and can be either smoke or infused into edible0

@MaryJaneUSA - good call. It was something to do with roots. She was trying to grow roots to the bottom of the container. When I moved the container, end of the road was damaged. And she pouted by cupping her top leaves.

Hahaha - 24 inch / 60 cm. Made from shoes shelf. Hear we take shoes off before entering a house. The size just Fit in the closet really well. So I can nurse the seedlings for two to three weeks before exposing them to slugs and bugs. So it’s at this rage it’s not from earth to the sun. Hahaha

@MaryJaneUSA, findoor is my wife space. Really, my challenge is to find easy and practical way that most people can follow here. That is to grow outdoor on a porch or balcony. Actually, Sugar Mango Ryder is much too strong for me. I was not able to move for a good while. So I think my next seeds buying will be Indica CBD.

The topping seemed to work well until you got the bud rot. Would you recommend topping this strain or no? Thanks
Med_in_Tropic
Med_in_Tropiccommented5 years ago
No @Tree_Goblin, don't top it. She does get tall with bigger pot. So bend her. This grow was one of my first grow. I have learned a few things since then. You have a tent set up, don't worry about mold. I grow outside with full exposure to disease carrying insects, sun, and rain. If I grow this strain again, I would not use manure. Use earth worm casting instead. I would transplant from 1 liter, 7 liters, to final 20 liters pot. Early on, I would bend her side way. LST her. Then the many side branches will stick up. And you should further LST them with wire to spread them about. I love the effect on Sugar Mango Ryder. Happy growing.

How far are you willing to go..? All your diaries had potential but they didn't finish good. If outdoor is a must then I'd invest in a very small greenhouse like 2x2x5 or 3x3x6 (in ft) something like that and invest in a cheap oscillating fan, plastic ventilator, and if you're willing to invest, get a cheap portable AC, especially in Thailand where it's extremely humid and hot. Basically, you just need something to move air and at the same time, not get blasted with UV by the sun. Your soil also need better better drainage.. You need like 30-40% perlite mixed with soil. That is why you're having root rot issues because it's not draining. Water needs to drain, by being drained, oxygen is introduced. Also I beg you to invest in some beneficial microbes (if all else is unrealistic); okay, if every thing i've told is unrealistic to you, then at least invest in some perlite, good pot (smart pot or air pot) and beneficial microbes. Also, I suggest you to grow some sativa dominant or pure sativa genetics. They do better in heat than indica strains, such as Kush (comes from colder climate). I'd hate to see a fellow grower struggle, especially in a place where you're not supposed to grow.. But imagine all the diaries you put your time into, you may had an oz of harvest total, if that (I'd hate to say it). But if you just had a decent harvest one time, it'll reward you with at least several oz, especially outdoor. You really just need to focus on good drainage, water/nutrient feeding times, and healthy roots which can be promoted by beneficial microbes. Oh yes, and you need to check your pH. VERY VERY IMPORTANT.

@MaryJaneUSA, Your spirit of brotherhood is much appreciated. Yes, I am struggling. Yield is tiny to experienced growers, but I am ecstatic with my first harvest. Lovely weeds that I am certain about cleanliness. I have started to grow to help a friend with terminal cancer. It was the wrong season to start but I really wanted to help. He passed away. My son has a bleeding this order and I help out with Thai hemophilia group every now and then. It just dawn on me that cannabis can help hemophilia community suffering from joint pain. Some of these families have very limited means. That put me on a path. Method had to be simple and low budge. Strains has to handle pain and swelling. Side issue is that hemophilia patient are all males and some have depression and self-destructive behaviors. Peace weed make sense. Harmonizing with nature and one self is the key. How far am I willing to go? As far as people around me understand. Governments had brain washed people for so long. City people have bad image of ganja. I am starting discreetly and slowly. Later, I need to show that I had done it and how I did it. Knowledge of ganja growing in Thai language is very limited. Comments and supports from my diaries are much more than I expected. I learned much quicker and am more committed. I also picking up weed philosophy and it makes me a better person. Thanks for the drainage comment. This may have killed one of my auto. I think the Thai one died because of bat guano and cow manure. I went crazy with pumice and peat. It did not drain well enough. I have to go back my root on legume leaves mix and coconut husk. This is laziness on my part. Coconut husk need to be mix fresh every time. My soil is full of digestive microbial. Five years ago, we had this long flood. And I use microbial to handle staggering water. The entire yard is ready to digest anything new. Organic fiber is eaten up fairly quickly. So I thought pumice was my answer. Well, back to basic then. My next grow I will change my mix and try the microbial mix. So many types are in plant shops. I need to ask my favorite shop which is good for the purpose. For strains, yes 8 months photoperiod sativa will surely works. Still trying for strains with different effect from (Thai) garden variety. I still have two strains of indica seeds to try. Even with half of it rotted, I still am happy with my initial haul. Another lesson is that weed are so strong these days. I should go for hemp hybrid (sorry, CBD rich). With “CBD rich” strains, it be easier to grow. And with 6 to 8 month cycle, Christmas will be a very happy time. Think I’ll buy 60/40 sativa/indica with CBD next.

Hard to tell but I think I would clip a small bud and dry it for a few days then test it out. The ones that are darker were they cloudy at one point? It looks like some are starting to go amber You will wind up with a mix of cloudy, clear and amber. Maybe we could get some other opinions from some outdoor growers.

@Philindicus, this a one is a real positive surprise. She is doing way better that what her data sheet says. May be “irrigation tolerance” in this case means she can tolerate overwatering?
Philindicus
Philindicuscommentedweek 86 years ago
She's filling in nicely. I too was wondering if growing auto flowering weed in shorter light periods might add a bit of growing time. Is the rainy season about to begin?
Med_in_Tropic
Med_in_Tropiccommented6 years ago
@Philindicus, I am sure of it. Shorter light period add a month or two to growing time to auto’s. So the total time from seed to harvest is nearly the same as photo’s. And yield is much less. The local wisdom is to say that there is no point for auto in sub-tropical region. However, I like sativa high and can’t afford to have 6 foot tree in my yard. Worse, most cannabis around here are two stories tall trees. So small plants yielding 20 g are fine. 20 grams is almost a yearly stock for me. Raining season starts by the end of May but weather can be weird these days. These are my final grow before I have to stop. We will be hitting hot and dry soon. Hot and dry is difficult. After which side way raining would be impractical for cannabis. My growin season really should start in fall.

“The local wisdom is to say that there is no point for auto in sub-tropical region.” So Mother Nature had it right all along. Huh! Imagine that. I can’t stop thinking about two storey tall Sativa plants! Wouldn’t that be awesome! I grew a ten foot Christmas tree once. I thought that was huge. I’ve seen pics of plants in Panama and Puerto Rico 15-20’ tall and bushy with flowers. PLEASE somebody save some 100% pure Sativa seeds from hybridization

@Philindicus, thanks bro. It’s all her. She is super easy to grow. And I think she is extending her roots to the soil. So there are two pH zones. Neutral pH in the pot. Probably because pumice keep buffering adjustment efforts. The soil is acidic. So different nutrients are absorbed differently in each zone.
