Germination
It's time to start the next growing season, and this round, I am to make my life as difficult as possible by growing five different cultivars in the same tent. I'm sure it will be a struggle to maintain an even canopy, but hey, we improve as growers by facing challenges and (hopefully) overcoming them. I will keep a separate diary for each cultivar, and this diary will feature Creme De La Chem from Mephisto Genetics ------------------------------------------------------------ Mephisto - Creme De La Chem Genetic Heritage: Stardawg Illuminati Cut x Chemdogging Seed Type: F5 Feminised Automatic Indica/Sativa: 70/30 Cycle Time: 65 to 70 days from sprout Size: 55 to 80 cm Yield: 90 to 120 grams Aroma & Flavor: Flowers, Spices, Fuel Effect: Highly potent, long duration Medicinal effect: Takes care of aches, pains, insomnia ------------------------------------------------------------ I started, as I usually do, by soaking the seed overnight in a glass of water with mycorrhiza, kelp powder, and fulvic acid. The next day, the seed was placed in a moist paper towel, inside an old CD case, and placed on a heat mat. Thirty-six hours later, we had a long taproot. I dusted it in more myco before planting it in the pot. The next day, she was already peaking out of the soil. Boom! We are on the way :)

Not much has happened this week. Like, seriously. She hasn't hardly grown at all. I hope she has been focusing on growing roots instead and will soon take off. We'll see... This is the first season I'm growing Mephisto genetics, and so far, I have had nothing but problems. I have no clue why. I prepared some sprouted seed tea earlier this week by sprouting 10 grams of barley seeds, 10 grams of corn, and 5 grams of alfalfa seed. I blitzed everything together in a blender with fulvic acid and some kelp meal. Usually, I don't add SST this early in the grow, but I made some for my other plants and thought that the CDLC girl could also benefit from it, considering how small she is. I only gave her about a shot glass worth.

The second week has passed, and she looks healthy, but her growth is slow and slightly wonky. I have no idea why, but at least she looks happy. I had COVID this week, so I more or less ignored the grow the entire week. VPD: 0.8-1.0 DLI: 25

She has grown in the last week, but she is still tiny for her age and really, really compact with hardly any internodal spacing. I guess she is stunted for some friggin reason, but I'll let her ride at this point. The only things I did this week were adding a watering system and a camera in the tent, as I'm off on vacation tomorrow.

I returned home a few days ago after a ten-day vacation trip and found that she is now in flower. It was overdue to train her, so I applied some LST to open her up. She is still on the smaller, but not tiny, as she grew quite a bit while I was gone. I added an hour of IR light per day to encourage additional stretching. Let's see if it pays off. I also elevated her pot to even out the canopy in the tent. There are some yellow leaf tips, possibly because of a high pH in the water reservoir. I know many people say that you don't need to care about pH in soil, but I've found that it can become an issue when you grow in lower soil volumes. I'll keep my eyes on her while paying attention to the pH.

Another week has passed in the tent. Earlier in the week, I brewed and fed her a compost tea from worm castings, insect frass, basalt, lime, kelp, dolomite, molasses, epsom salt, fulvic acid, and malted barley. She looks happy, and her pompoms are incredibly white. However, there is discoloration on a few leaves and leaf tips. It doesn't look too bad, so I'm not concerned about it now. I applied additional LST and removed a few leaves to increase light penetration and airflow.

This week was uneventful. All I did was to water and remove an odd leaf here and there as there isn't much else to do now in flower. I'm not a fan of flower as it is so boring. It's just a looong waiting period until done. Gimme veg any day. She isn't the tallest girl, but I'm still pleased with her size, considering how slowly she has grown. Her buds are big puffs of white hair. It's hard to tell in the pics, but the hairs are so white they stand out in the tent.

Another uneventful week has passed. I water every few days whenever the soil moisture drops low. That's it. It's only a waiting game at this point.

Another week has passed. Completely uneventful. She smells vile - like a mixture of burnt rubber and turpentine. I can't wait to smoke her :D I peaked at the trichomes; most are milky but not amber yet. A week, maybe two more, I'd guess. We continue waiting.

This week was more eventful, but unfortunately it was the bad kind of events. I spotted a weird-looking leaf on the main cola a few days ago. I removed it and immediately saw signs of budrot. Opening up the cola further showed extensive mold. I feared this might happen due to how compact the plant is, with large, chunky colas. The overall environment in my tent is pretty solid, but I need to improve the micro-climates within the tent by adding more circulation fans. It will always be a risk for budrot with chunky colas, but improved circulation should help. I trimmed off all the moldy buds and directed one of the fans to blow directly into the plant. I also added another fan to improve the general circulation. I've also ordered a couple more fans, and they should arrive next week. The trichomes are mostly milky, so chop day is getting closer, but I'll hold off until I see some amber. I'd guess a week or two.

Boom! Touch down! I let her ride the week, ripening, before chopping and hanging her whole in the drying tent. No more signs of budrot. Fingers crossed She is LOUD and reeks of burnt rubber, asphalt, and puke. Truly revolting. After smelling the plant, my girlfriend said - "Don't you EVER grow that one again." lmaoooo Now. Two weeks of drying. Can't wait.

Small plant with VERY dense buds. Unfortunately, this resulted in some budrot. She was a very stinky lady - reeking of burnt rubber, vomit, sewage, and rotten fish. The terps has mellowed after the dry but the funk is still there.

I left her drying for 12 days. Her aroma of burnt rubber, vomit, sewage, and rotten fish has decreased after the dry but the funk is still there, although there's also a sweet fruitiness mingled in. The trim was a piece of cake since most fan leaves were already gone. My concerns about further budrot were unfounded as I couldn't find any mold. Overall, this was a smooth grow. Besides a bit of training, I didn't do much. Perfect for a lazy stoner like me.
