Week 1 - Bubbasquanch (BS) is severely stunted compared to Mango Smile (MS). Seed was stuck to her and had to pry apart, and it wasn't until over a day later that I noticed she still had the membrane attached and had to tweezer that off. Wondering if too late to abort BS and replace with the freebie extra Mephisto supplied. Think it was day 4-5 started on 1/4 strength Jack nutes along with Armor Si and CalMag, although calmag probably not necessary with Jacks. Using 1x week Real Growers Recharge and molasses.
Hey. My jars are empty and I've already spent hundreds at the dispensary (weed legal here now!!!) so time to start growing again. Woot. Going to be switching nutrients to using the Jacks 321 formula and following Kootmed's schedule (https://www.cocoforcannabis.com/wp-content/uploads/wpforo/attachments/7164/55453-JACKS-3-2-1.pdf). Probably going to be switching to octopots after this grow, so this grow is just to get accustomed to new to me nutrients.
Week 2 - Transplanted from peat pellets to 3 gallon coco/perlite fabric containers on Day 7 after the appearance of emerging roots on the pellets. Bubbasquanch is recovering but don't think it'll be fast enough to catch up to Mango Smile. Could still abort. Began week with 1/4 strength Jacks and ended week at 1/3 strength Jacks. Used Real Growers Recharge and molasses 1x/week.
Week 3 - Day 21 (10/25/2024) - Great growth on both plants but especially reassuring on Bubbasquanch (BS) after the helmet seed glitch (mea culpa on the whole abort thing). Slowly ramping up ppfd and nutrients according to Kootmed's JACKS 3-2-1 Feed Chart, but I'm still at 80% strength Jacks right now and will boost to 100% this coming week. PPFD at 425 as measured by Photone android app. Now Mango Smile (MS) height at 6" and BS at 4", and both were topped and had bottom node removed, leaving us with 3 branch pairs to LST in the coming week. MS topped on day 18, and BS topped on day 20.
11/1/2024 - Day 28 - Did flower start already? IDK. Doing LST on both plants focusing on lateral growth rather than vertical just to get some spacing for some future buds. Mango Smile still outpacing Bubbasquanch 8" vs 6", and it'll be exciting to see what flowering does to them.
11/8/2024 - Day 35 (F7?) - Going to consider this the end of the first week of flower. Big height difference between the plants with Mango Smile (MS) measuring at 16" and Bubbasquanch (BS) at 8". Using old cookie container to even out their heights for light exposure. Did some defoliation and lollipopping while continuing the LST. Great smell coming out of the MS. PPFD moved up to 750, light cycle changed to 18/6, and at maximum nutrient dose according to KootMed's Jacks 3-2-1 feed chart. Wondering if should add flower booster or just keep it simple?
11/15/2024 - Day 42 (~F14) - Mango Smile (MS) is a monster! She's 24" with great internode spacing and refreshing smell every time tent is opened. In comparison, Bubbasquanch (BS) is a squat 14" with fatter leaves, shorter node spacing, and probably few days behind MS in flowering. Wondering just how much the stunted growth in week 1 (helmet head) cost the BS.
Still following KootMed's Jacks 3-2-1 Feed Chart (https://kootmed.com/.downloads/Feeding/JACKS-321-FEED-CHART.pdf). This site doesn't seem to allow grams/gallon unit so sorry exact amount isn't shown here. PPFD at 850 right now.
Day 49 (F21) - Think stretching done? Mango Smile (MS) leads in height at 30" and Bubbasquanch (BS) at 21". PPFD at tallest cola now at 950 ppfd but most other colas under 850. Kootmed's Jacks Feed chart still being followed: daily (per gallon) = 2.5 ml Armor Si + 3.6 grams Jack's 5-12-26 + 2.4 grams Jack's Cal-Nitrate + 1.2 grams Epsom Salt and weekly (per gallon) = 1/2 tsp Real Grower's Recharge + 2 tbsp Molasses.
Also, not sure why but the nice, mango smell has gone and I hope it comes back. So tempted to add some flower booster or maybe increase Jack's dosage to 125%. Since there's no sign of nute burn on leaf tips, maybe they're not being pushed enough. PPM of current nutrient mix is 1100 and ppm of runoff is 1650.
11/29/2024 - Day 56 (F28) - Both plants looking good. Final heights for both (tallest colas): Mango Smile = 31" and Bubbasquanch = 23". Tops are 6" from light and have ppfd of 1050, but no signs of tacoing so should be ok. Most colas at ~900 ppfd. Main concern is humidity since inside tent is almost 60% even though outside tent is 35% humidity, so nothing else the dehumidifier can do outside tent.
Now let's hope all the buds start fattening up! Sticking with KootMed's JACKS 3-2-1 Feed Chart - https://kootmed.com/.downloads/Feeding/JACKS-321-FEED-CHART.pdf
12/6/2024 - Day 63 - Some of the taller MS branches started leaning so added a scrog net just in case. MS currently giving out a faint floral smell, but don't smell anything off the BS.
Added another fan below canopy so that each plant gets own fan. Seems to be some slightly burned leaf tips on both plants even though feed has been same for while now. More pistils on BS have changed color than MS, but buds on both plants seem to be same size.
KootMed's schedule working great for this grow (https://kootmed.com/.downloads/Feeding/JACKS-321-FEED-CHART.pdf). Also, last use of recharge and molasses microbe mix was on F30 and won't use anymore for rest of flower.
12/13/2024 - Day 70 (F42) - End of flower week 6 and still waiting for buds to fatten up. Buds look the same on both plants except BS is a shade darker than MS. Can't smell anything on BS, but MS floral odor getting stronger. Don't know the source of the gnats and can't see them crawling around the coco surface so those yellow traps are only thing saving this grow.
12/20/2024 - Day 77 (F49) - Almost there, right? Wish the humidity in the tent was a bit lower, but right outside tent is 36% humidity and inside is 51%, and with 4" exhaust fan going at full blast what else to do? Going to deviate a little from KootMed's feed chart and starting tomorrow going to add some General Hydroponics Dry KoolBloom. So far not that amazed at bud size so now's the time for a booster. Already decreased Armor Si dose from 2.5 ml/gallon to 1.5 ml.
12/27/2024 - Day 84 (F56) - Not there yet. Amber trichomes beginning to come in on Mango Smile, but still missing from Bubbasquanch. Decided against adding dry koolbloom and just sticking with KootMed's schedule for duration, but did drop Armor Si down to 1.25 ml/gallon. Because of its tall branches, the MS is leaning a bit to the side and probably would've fallen without scrog support. However, just from feel, the BS colas seem to be heavier than MS. Getting to be a slog to feed these plants, but will wait until more amber trichomes to chop. 1-2 weeks?
1/3/2025 (Day 91 / F63) - So according to the trichome pictures, looks like Mango Smile is ahead of Bubbasquanch and will get the chop in next few days. MS trichomes are more dense, taller, and crooked than BS, however, BS colas look and feel much heavier than MS so that was unexpected too.
Stopped Armor Si dosing earlier this week and decreased light intensity to 800 ppfd as noted on KootMed's feed chart (https://kootmed.com/.downloads/Feeding/JACKS-321-FEED-CHART.pdf).
Tentative plan is chop MS plant on 1/5 and wait until next week (1/10) to check on BS trichomes. Different harvest days is great so I hopefully won't have to trim both in one day!
1/10/2025 (Day 98 - F70) - Next week I will unexpectedly have to go out of town for a few days so this has altered when I will harvest. Will be forced to chop both plants and start drying day before I leave so when I get back it should be on drying day 6 or 7. Currently, humidity inside is at 28% so this may be cutting it close. Looking at current trichomes now, Mango Smile is probably past the ideal chop point whereas Bubbasquanch still isn't showing much amber at all. Also, really wish I did something about the gnats earlier. The dry vac sucks up a bunch of them during runoff cleanup but really should be using mosquito bits.
Freedom 35 is back in action!
1/23/2025 - HARVEST
Both plants were dried for 8-9 days in average condition of 63F and 44% humidity (see above pic). Thought I waited too long because they sounded and felt pretty crispy during the trim. So ultimately, this grow ended for both plants at 103 days. Wish I took trichomes pics of last day, but before that the Mango Smile looked almost a week past ready, and the Bubbasquanch was barely showing amber. Don't know how this will affect the smoke, and don't expect a smoke report from me.
First time using a trim bin during harvest and so might've overdone it with the trim scraping on the mesh screen. The kief is looking a bit too greenish, but it works and it's the first thing I smoked from this harvest!
So this grow, KootMed, and Greengenes Garden converted me from a General Hydroponics liquid nutes guy to a Jacks 3-2-1 dry nutes guy. For next grow, I want to go hydro with the pumps and hydroton and tubes everywhere! Seems like the growers with the biggest yields do some form of hydro and it looks like it could be less maintenance than what I'm currently doing. Just have to set it all up in my tiny closet.
