First grow in Autopots and Coco (Mephisto Sour Stomper & Strawberry Nuggets x SOH)
So this my first grow on Coco and in Autopots. The Coco Im using is the Hydro Cocos from Plagron with 60% clay pebbles. In the autopots I also use the airdome and airbase from Autopot for better oxygen supply in the rootzone. Let’s see how good this works.
Germination went without any issues and both sprouted after about 4 days in the growing medium.
Growth on both plants has been a bit slow and I guess that was because of giving them too much water too early. Leafs do also look very bright and have some even brighter spots. Maybe some sort of deficiency? I did feed with cocos A + B according to plan though.
I will water one more time per hand before I‘ll turn on the autopot system. Hope the roots are established enough by then.
Today on day 16 both plants look way better and growth is taking off right now. I will now start to lower the humidity step by step and turn on in the autopot system in a few days.
Besides that I started with leaf tucking. I don‘t plan to do any more training than just this. No topping, no LST. I‘ve seen growers like Autopotamus having great results with that on Autos so I want to give it a try. :)
On Day 25 I think overall growth is ok but could be better. Especially when I compare those to my last grow. But I think I made some mistskes which lead to this.
First of all before I turned on the autopots I watered with silica which I learned can lead to problems if not added first to the water and then let it dissolve for around 30 minutes. This lead especially to problems on the sour stomper where the lower growth got white spots on some leafs.
Second is that I did add Calmag and Monomag because my tapwater contains almost nothing of it (3,5mg/l mag and 30mg/l cal). But Coco A+B from Plagron contain more than enough of it and theres no need for me to add more.
Once I did realize that I changed the solution in my reservoir. I hope they will pick up pace soon.
Besides that I think I gave them too much light because especially the SNxSOH grew really bushy. Despite not wanting to do it I removed some fanleaves from the SNxSOH to give the lower branches more light. In the retrospective I think this was also a mistake.
Today is day 29 and the Sour Stomper is doing great. The leaf tucking did work really well on her. The SNxSOH is still very bushy but I think she finally begins to stretch a bit.
On day 35 the SNxSOH remains very bushy and didn‘t stretch much so far. Seems to be genetically in this cross. To keep the bush somewhat under control and give the lower branches more light I continued with defoliating this one.
The Sour Stomper is still doing great but some leafs showed brown spots. Not sure what it is but could be from too much light as I had some supporting lights from the side relatively close to those leafs.
On day 42 the SNxSOH looks really healthy. I did further defoliate her to open the bush up and get a better airflow between those budsites.
The sour stomper has some kind of problem but I don‘t know what it is. Maybe it’s too much light for her but idk.
Both plants are finished with stretching and are now beginning to bulk up. I started mixing in green sensation into the res.
Idk if this is a common problem but my autopot reservoir began to smell a bit moldy. I have a circulation pump running for 15 minutes each hour and started using athena cleanse. But still I have this moldy smell after some time in my res. So last time I filled in new water I did clean the tank and the pump completely with some h2o2. I hope this helps and its enough to do a complete clean like every 4 weeks or so.
This week I switched to the single tray autopots. I think it‘s more practical and gives me the possibility to move the plants around and clean them seperately.
The SNxSOH is looking really good but man what a bush. I really should have trained her a little bit. I defoliated her already to increase airflow but it’s still super dense in there.
The sour stomper has still some kind of problem but I still didnt figure out what it is. I suspect the high light intensity to cause those problems and tuned down the lights by 10% earlier this week. Nevertheless the buds are already fattening up and I should still get a decent harvest of her.
The Sour Stomper is really struggling and I hope she makes it at least 2 more weeks. The SNxSOH is still looking good and healthy. Bud sites on both plants are getting bigger and bigger. I aim for a harvest in about 3 weeks but lets see how things go.
I did harvest the Headbuds of both plants on D68. Especially the SNxSOH was bit too dense and I wanted to reduce the mold risk. The rest I‘ll let ripen for one more week.
