Starting diary for week 9 early to keep track of the trichomes for the UK Cheese which appears to be approaching harvest. For now only loading microscope images and will load full plant images at the end of the week. UK Cheese (Plants labeled #1, #2 and #3): All trichomes appear milky with some amber (but well below 30%). Plan is to harvest these in a couple of days, but will push as late as possible (depending on feedback) to allow better flush (started today) Critical + 2.0 (Plants labeled #1, #2, #3): Mix of glassy and milky trichomes with no sign of amber. Looking for a couple more weeks out of these girls. One unfortunate issue is that some of the Critical plus plants exhibited signs of white powdery mold on some fan leaves. Any advice on pest control that could help with harming the buds? I have some Bio Neem, but believe the moment has passed where that is appropriate. To begin with I've wiped the leaves with wet paper towel to remove most of the mold. Very happy to see what a cheap microscope can do :)

For an outdoor auto grow does it make sense to move the plants during the day to maximise direct sunlight (8h vs 12h) or is it better to leave them undisturbed. better to keep plants under a basic light setup eg 85w 4750 lumen cfl up to 100cm from light during veg stage?

Yes it makes sense , I have this problem myself and I can't move them ( stealth grow ) so I loose direct sunlight and a bit of energy. During veg if you can put them out during day time and inside during night time ( under the FL) it would be perfect to maximise the autos grow ✌️🏼

When a breeder quotes an estimated range for yield what assumptions do the make: 1. Is the quoted yield based on wet or dry weight 2. Is the range based on standard growth or do the high end numbers typically assume advanced training techniques, supplemental lighting etc.

I never read the Yield esteminations... Because, i dont really understand them^^ i look at seedfinder.eu and read what ppls wrote there, sometimes its teh same text like breeder, but most time there are personalized comments / texts. For me yield is no point for the decision to buy them. I look here at gd how the most of it come out, how difficult they are. how resiliant they are is for me one of the biggest points. I would always recommend you to buy from respected breeders. Maybe they dont have such fancy names or packages, but the Plants have good and stable genetics. This is how i do it, i see a strain, look on seedfinder.eu and here on gd how they are to grow........ and in i have doubts i dont grow it. As you can see in my grows i have prefered Breeder. And i would always go with them , because the Customer service is a very important point to me too. If you have problems, someone who helps you or send you new seeds. We can talk per PM for giving you some Names of good Breeder. i dont want to do it here

Thanks dude! I appreciate the feedback and advice. I'll keep an eye on the soil temp it might become an issue for me. Right now I'm worried about a bit of stretching. We've got plenty daylight hours at the moment but tricky to find a spot in my garden to take full advantage of that (either get morning or afternoon sun). Plan to rotate the plants under a CFL 4750 lumen light at night during veg state to compensate, but worried about moving them around too much. I don't have enough space for all the plants so each plant will get their turn every second dayI'm using Ph balanced bottled water (Bon Aqua)

Thanks @OutForReal! I'm seeing small but visible gains (compared to same seed) with no lights) after just a few days when moving them under lights at night and will continue to do so.

Now we're talking! Looking good dude. And thanks so much for the kind words on my grow. Something definitely went wrong with your other grow but this one looks like it's off to a flying start! Autoflowers lives are so short so it is like a race against time. My main pointers are, firstly; make sure they get as much direct sunlight as possible but make sure the pots don't get hot. 8+ hours of direct sunlight per day is ideal. Mine were fine on the grass/lawn but if your pots are getting hot from the ground up try a white surface. I found Garden Master garden refuse bags at Builders Warehouse for R10. https://www.builders.co.za/Garden-%26-Outdoor-Living/Garden/Garden-Sheds-%26-Bins/Garden-Master-Refuse-Bags/p/000000000000250181 Secondly, only water them when the soil is dry up to your second knuckle (about 5cm) or when you can feel the pot is light. At some stages I was only watering once every two weeks. Most of the time about once a week. When it rained, not at all. I watered the entire fabric pot every time by watering slowly and trying not to get any run-off. Your soil is alive so you don't want to wash any of it away. On that note, if you're using tap water, leave it in the shade outdoors in open 5l bottles so the chlorine evaporates. Chlorine will kill your living organisms in your soil. The difference in the smell of chorine where we live before and after 3 days is quite crazy. Try it out and see if it works for you, too. Lastly, autos are light feeders. Especially with the soil you have. You barely need to use nutrients at all but if you want to; organic nutrients like the Bio-Grow you have for veg stage at 1/4 the recommended dose and Bio-Bloom for the flowering stage at 1/4 the recommended dose is much safer than going too heavy. If you just do those things you WILL get something sick out of it. Hope this helps and can't wait to see how the rest of your grow goes! Crush it man!

Hi Mark, just want to mention how impressed i am with the dinafem seeds. I've had 100% germination rate out of 20 dinafem autoflowering seeds planted now and any issues have been newbie mistakes on my part. hope to convince my friends with grow tents to buy premium dinafem seeds and try autos in the coming months. thank you!

@starphish, thank you for the answer to my question. It helps to know that it is dry weight and that the breeders tend to inflate estimates. Hehe, moving plants is hard work and I've started getting a little bit lazy. No question that it is worth it though. Now that most of ny plants are in full bloom I expect diminishing returns, but will continue.

Your 2nd round is looking really good! The plants under the lights look excellent! I wouldn't worry about your plants flowering early. They are autos and usually start showing pre-flowering between weeks 3-5. They are supposed to get down to business quickly.

@Quexos, Thank you! I'm very excited about this round and the next. Have to restrain myself from planting another batch because that would be pushing it with the law (whilst growing your own is now legal here it's up to police discretion whether the quantity puts you in dealing category).

You are absolutely right! There is a huge difference between this grow and your first grow. A little experience doesn't hurt though.πŸ‘ I read a lot of the comments about this grow. There is some really, really good advice in there. You are lucky. This is a great community. I've been in a few groups that aren't quite so supportive.

@smurgrow, This is an amazing platform mate, we try to be as active as possible as we feel it very important to connect with all growers growing our creations πŸ‘Š The Grow Diaries platform has members who are just starting through to professional growers and breeders. We all work together and help each other πŸ‘Œ This is quite rare and one reason we love the Grow Diaries platform πŸ‘Š With love from Humboldt County✌️ Kind regards Team-HSO..

@Quexos, Yes, I'm absolutely blown away by this community. Not only do representatives from the seedbanks chime in, but also pros and amateurs with quality of the feedback that is incredible. Each perspective helps! This is sooo valuable to a newbie like me. Btw, i think it's good to see failures too, because those are great learning opportunity.

That Expo sounded like a great time! Did any of the booths offer any growing tips? Your UK Cheese look great! Now I want to grow some Cheese strains! How does it smell? Those Criticals are looking fat! You might want to stake those buds so they have some support. I could see the stalk bending due to the weight!

@smurgrow, Check out UTube videos of people using hair straighteners to extract resin from their buds. It's pretty low-tech, but it gets the job done.

@Quexos, Yeah they are going in range of $200 / $500 or $1000 here depending on how extreme you want to go. We can order from Amazon etc. but long distance shipping of heavy items is expensive.

@smurgrow, I've seen rosin plate extraction devices for about 200 bucks around here. There is a cheap tool type store chain called Harbor Freight. They have tons of good deals. I don't know if you have any comparable chains there. Amazon also offers them.

Good week! I'm not sure about who is who in your pictures. I'm assuming the taller one is the cheese? Anyway the last 3-4 pictures show a plant that is a lot closer to being ready than the first pictures. I think you should do a little reading concerning your idea about needing more nitrogen. Think about the purpose of nitrogen and what your plant is doing right now. Increasing your bloom nutes will give you flowering benefits, but its purpose is not to add a lot of Nitrogen. Your plants look super healthy. I didn't notice any signs of nute burn. You could probably increase your bloom nutes to get more yield. Are you feeding at full strength?

@Quexos, awesome thank you! this helps a lot. I'll admit to being a bit obsessed with my girls 😎
Quexos
Quexos
@smurgrow, You certainly do your homework! I wouldn't worry about the yellowing leaves. Your plants will start to fade as their lifespan reaches the end. That fading includes lower leaves yellowing and dropping. It's normal. Rignt now your plant's entire focus is on the flowers. Increasing your bloom nutes will give your plant an extra boost to help flowering. Your range of dosing for bloom nutes is 2-5ml and you are feeding 1.5ml?

Talk about a kid in a candy shop! All micro pictures.πŸ˜†πŸ˜† Cheese 2-3 look pretty done, but Cheese 1 looks like it needs more time. Crits look to be in the same boat as the Cheese 1. Did you notice how long it took those trichomes to go from milky to amber? That will help with harvesting Cheese 1. So your first and second grow are almost done?

Oh yes they are well into bloom now and looking in great shape πŸ‘Œ Just going of the pictures I would say these still have a minimum of 4 weeks possibly 6 more week's until finished. They are only just really starting to form there structure now, plenty of time left to pile on the weight πŸ‘ Definitely more than 2 weeks left my friend πŸ‘Š I'll keep dropping in as you update mate πŸ‘ All the best ✌️ Mark..

@smurgrow, I'm in the same boat my friend with a 56+day Dinafem Blue Cheese Auto that is making it known she might be better off closer to 80+ days rather than the estimated 65-70. I am always curious with new plants whether they are taking longer due to stress or just doing their own little thing. Excited to see how your lady develops in the next weeks :) Have a great day

@Mrs_Larimar, thanks again this makes perfect sense! I was uncomfortable tackling techniques like LST before I got the basics right (esp after some early mistakes), but planning to in my next grow. These estimates are very helpful!
Mrs_Larimar
Mrs_Larimar
@smurgrow,ok i got it. it really depends in your trainig and other conditions like light how much your girls will give you. As your Girls got no topping or lst or anything like that you will get around 30-50 grams dry from each plant. if you give her LST you can get more. But everything above 25 grams is a good outcome ( in my opinion). I had automatics, that gave me each plant 80 grams. and some growers go with 100 and 120 grams. But iam most time ok with around 50-60 grams dried
