Hello and welcome to my first DWC attempt.
Parents: Sunset Sherbet x Cherry Cookies
I decided to buy a ready-made system because I didn't have the necessary time and it should just be a test if DWC is something for me.
I didn't want a system with more than 2 buckets as I don't have the space. I know it's not difficult to build a DWC system yourself, but I think the costs would have been the same.
The 26 liters as stated by Spider Farmer are a bit optimistic...i don't think that much will fit in, then the net basket will already float to the top.
i have filled the bucket with 18 liters, the netbasket is 1 cm in the water.
🛠️- Equipment
- 2 x 18 liter bucket with air pump, dripper and airstones
- clay balls and netbasket (Please wash the clay balls thoroughly before using them)
- 4 x 4cm rock wool cubes
The air pump has 4 outlets, 2 for the air stones and 2 for the dripper, if you don't want it I could imagine that you can upgrade to 4 buckets (airstones). Let's hope that the pump survives at least one grow haha.
I don't know if one air stone per bucket will be enough or whether the oxygen from the air pump is sufficient. Lets see

🌰 - Germination
put the seeds in the water for 12 hours at 22 degrees and then in a cotton pad for another 24 hours. Then I prepared the rockwool blocks and let them soak up water for a few minutes. Place the seed with the small root down in the hole of the cube and carefully close the upper part with tweezers. after the heads pops out i put the stone wool cubes into the net filled with clay balls and make sure it fits well. The dripper ensures that there is sufficient moisture and no dry spots.
💧- Water
I water all my plants with tap water. My water has a pH value of 7.5 and an EC of 0.4 without the addition of nutrients. The water is a bit hard but there's nothing you can do about it.
i want a PH range from 5.5 - 6-5, I had to adjust my pH value, which I did with Plagron ph-.

🔸 The first week is now over for my two bathing mermaids🧜♀️. I've had the pH value at 5.7 - 5,9 all week, I will start with an EC value of 1.1, as specified by Canna, and see if it becomes too much.

🔸 nothing happend, i have to say the PH value is very stable I don't have to adjust anything during the week, only check EC and pH daily, tomorrow i change the water

🔸I did a water change EC=1.3 PH=5.6...
🔸unfortunately the Chilled Cherry #2 fell out of my hand and some roots were torn off, the complete plant with clay balls came loose...I put everything back together and let's see if it recovers...the plant
itself was not damaged. The thick roots have remained intact, but are from the net. I call this a beginner's mistake and it won't happen to me again 😭😭😪

🔸I did a water change EC=1.3 PH=5.8...
🔸Increased the light to 400 PPFD
🔸CC#1 is a monster, she has massive big fanleafs and is slowly getting a thick stem. Compared to my Runtz grow much much bigger at the same age.
🔸CC#2 has recovered reasonably well. It has developed strong roots again after I had to put it completely back into the net, which is of course reflected in its low growth. As you can see from the pictures, it has only suffered external damage. I think she will be back in the race this week.

🔸Increased the light to 600-700 PPFD
🔸I topped the CC#2 after the 4rd nodie and now have 8 main branches...I had to top them so that the lower branches get enough light
🔸CC#2 is back and is doing well, the root foliage of both plants looks very good..the color also looks very healthy. So far I am thrilled with how easy and good Hydro is.

🔸They are developing very well ,in this phase I don't do much I push the branches down and make sure they all get the same amount of light, I remove 1 or 2 leaves, but not too much at once
🔸Cherry 1 is still doing well...She is growing quite fast and I think this will be the last week of veggies.
🔸Cherry 2 doesn't look quite as happy, but she's growing...let's see how it is this week with the better light...

🔸So far I think it's going far too well, the effort is limited...I change the water once a week, the water that is poured away still looks great...no slime or anything like that. The roots also look great...the only thing is that since cherry number 2 fell out of the basket it doesn't look happy, but let's see...it's definitely smaller than cherry 1

Oh was sehe ich denn hier?!! Wir haben die Chilled Cherry Ltd. vom Zamnesia (und French Runtz Ltd) damals auch gekauft. Bin voll gespannt wie es bei Dir läuft. Viel Glück und Spaß bei den süßen Kirschen
@Doja420, Jaaaa...Zamnesia bringt die Tage noch eine Collabo raus "Orange Hippo" von Blimburn Seeds und Zamnesia auch limitiert...ich weiß nicht, aber mit sowas kriegen die mich :D

Hab das DWC Set AUCH da stehen, aber irgendwie trau ich mich nicht wirklich ran...
Grade auch wegen meinen Wasserwerten hier. Leitungswasser kommt mit 8,2 - 8,5 aus der Leitung😏😏
Echt gespannt wie sich die Damen bei dir so machen, hab ja nen groben Vergleich da😊

Bin noch am Überlegen.

Einfach machen und schaun was rauskommt.
Bin halt echt bzgl. meinen Wasserwerten bißchen skeptisch.
Ph ist eben sehr hoch, dazu noch Calcium bei 131mg/l und Magnesium ist bei 4,2mg/l.
Ich dachte zum Testen eher an ne Runde Auto's (Mimosa X Orange Punch Auto von Barney's)
Aber wie du sagst, am besten einfach ins Kalte Wasser springen..
@Brujha77, Einfach machen!! Es ist gar nicht so kompliziert wie du bestimmt denkt, ich war nämlich auch Anfangs etwas abgeschreckt. Der Ph Wert von deinem Wasser ist nicht so wichtig wie der EC Wert, den PH wert kann man immer mit PH - oder + angleichen. Den EC musst du dazurechnen. Naja mal schauen ist ja auch mein Probedurchlauf, wird halt Interessant wenn die Pflanze es bis zu Blüte schafft :D
Was möchtest du denn gerne in deinem DWC als nächstes growen?
Das schaut doch gut aus👍 Wie sieht es denn bei dir mit der Temperatur der Nährlösung in den Eimern aus? Hast du da ne Kühlung oder passt es einfach?
Bzgl. Pumpe. Ich kann dir da die Aqua forte empfehlen grade die V20 oder V30. Benutze die schon Jahre für meine Aquarien (super Leistung, sehr leise) brauchst nur nen Luftverteiler dazu👍
Ja glaube der Eimer wird zu klein sein, aber mal schauen. Ja die Aqua Forte + Verteiler hab ich mir schon rausgesucht, falls sie den Geist aufgibt oder nicht ausreichend ist. Aber bist jetzt läuft alles super…Temperatur vom Wasser messe ich nicht, mache nur immer ne fingerprobe.
Bin bei dir auch mal aufs Ergebniss gespannt, sieht auf jeden Fall schön frostig aus

@kohlrabi, Vielen Dank :) ich hoffe es macht auch Spaß 😅 Habs beim großen A gekauft und 100,- bezahlt musste mir nur noch die rockwool cubes kaufen. Die Pumpe könnte meiner Meinung nach etwas stärker sein, da ich aber keine Erfahrung damit habe versucht ich es erstmal damit 😅
@Hattiwatti, thank you buddy 👊...I have one more question...I read a lot that the EC value should be around 0.6 at the beginning...., but the dosing scheme from Canna Aqua says 0.9 (+ 0.4, which my tap water still has)... so I come to 1.3...that seems too high to me...what do you think?
I don't do much at all...but I guess the bucket will be too small...means I will have to add water daily...1-2 branches broke off because it grew so fast that the clips broke the branches...Thank you :)
