Sour ZODA from Umami Seed Co. - First photoperiodic grow
Welcome to my new diary, it is my first photoperiodic grow ever!
I grow a very delicate genetic from Umami Seed Co. This seeds came as a freebie to the Gym Crush Strain, which I will grow in the future. I chose this strain because I'm a medical user for ADHD, I have major problems with staying focused which really hinders my productivity during my PhD study. And Sour Diesel is known for helping with that problem, so I'll see how this one turns out.
I popped 1 seed on 24/01/25. The seed germinated after only 12 hours and I planted it in a EazyPod. Unfortunately, it grew very very slowly and a whole week after putting the seed into water, the plant didn't even have 2 leafs (31/01/25). So I popped another seed on that day, just to be sure, which also germinated very quickly. The second plant came out of the EazyPod after 2 days. And today, on 04/02/25, which is the first day that the supporting leafs opened up, it looks pretty fine. Has a huge tap root.
I want to only grow 1 plant this time to really fill up the whole 2x2 tent from AC infinity. So tomorrow I will decide which pheno I plant inside a 5 gal fabric pod. Let's hope I choose the right seed because the other one won't make it into the tent.
Let's talk about the strain:
Sour D x Zoda is a crossing that is not available on the market yet (or never will be available, who knows). ZODA is an original strain from Umami Seed Co. It is a cross between Zcai (Z x Acai Gelato) and SeattleSoda (UW Purple x Sodalicious) and I don't really know how it is supposed to taste. On the website from Umami, nothing about this strain is really specified but Leafly says that the terps are a mix of fruity, berry and tar notes. I'm really looking forward to this crossing because of the legendary Sour Diesel which I always wanted to grow. I hope that this cross delivers for my focussing condition and tastes as promised.

So, I did choose seed 2 because I just had a better feeling about it. This little plant is growing equally as slow as the first seed. We're now on day 7 above ground and she just has formed her first 2 leafs. If I compare it to my autoflower runs, it's night and day. I hope that she is just like that in the beginning and that she progresses now faster and faster.

Okay progress! The first true leafs are coming. Soil is still not completely dried so no more feeding for now.
//Day 11
She looks very healthy and is growing nicely. Today the soil was completely dry so I gave her 0.5L of water with some early stage nutrients.
//Day 13
Progress and she starts to drink now. Already needed to water her again. This time, I gave her 1L of water with adjusted pH and early nutrients.
//Day 16
She is growing nicely. The soil is almost dry again so I'll water her in the evening with 2L of pH-adjusted water. Since she has now her 3rd and 4th leaf, I want to start giving her some grow nutrients and just watch how she reacts to it.
//Day 18
I'm not so happy with the color of her leafs, she seems a little yellow-ish, but not really. Also her leafs are taco-ing, so I adjusted the ventilator position to not induce wind stress. Earth is still moist so no watering today.
//Day 20
SO she definitely needs more juice. I gave her more Nitrogen now in form of more bio grow. Watered again with 2 L, I hope that the nutrient adjustment helps her. Positiv thing is, that her side notes started to form.
//Day 26
So now she finally needed water again. The last drink was quite a while ago, she wasn't really thirsty for what ever reason. Still deficient in Nitrogen, hopefully this watering with nutrients will help. Progress in the last 6 days was great tho!
//Day 29
So today, I topped her. Sorry for the unregular updates. I'm going through a breakup right now and my mind is not in the space for this, unfortunately. I don't want to kill her tho, that's why I'll continue with this grow. I think this will be the last week of veg because I just want to get over it. Sorry. I'll still post updates but not as frequently as I did till last week.

Nutrient problem is solved for now. Very beautiful plant. This will definitely be the last week of veg. She is still a slow drinker, only 1 watering per week. But I don't mind. Looking forward to flowering phase.
//Day 41
This will be the last 18 hours of light for her. Tomorrow, I will switch to the 12/12 schedule for flowering. I'm very happy with how she looks. Healthy and vigorous. She is pretty tall, but even with 2-3x stretch I should be fine. My tent is tall and I trained her to be more bushy. I want to try to ScrOG her to use the whole area of the tent. I defoliated slightly today to make sure that all benches get enough light.
// Day 1 flower
This is the first day with a 12/12 cycle! She is very healthy for the start of flowering. I train her with bud trainers for now until I use a ScrOG later on. No watering is needed for now but this week I will implement flowering nutrients.
// Day 4 flower
The stretching really has begun. Thanks to the topping and the bud trainers, her structure is very bushy. She still looks amazing. I did some light defoliation to just air her up a bit.
// Day 7
She got water today with nutrients. Looks really healthy. First week of flower is over and her stretching is going on but not too much. I really like her structure. Other than that there es nothing really to share.
// Day 11
Watered her again. You can really feel how the flowering kicks in. I see the first pistols and she drinks much more than ever. Stretching is really manageable for now. Can't wait until she is done and I can start lollipopping. I always need to remove some leafs here and there to lighten up the canopy but other than that, no training except some clips and bud trainers.
// Day 15
Stretching is getting real. I want to wait this week and then do a last defoliation and my first lollipopping. She drinks a lot, already needed to water her again yesterday with 4L of water with nutrients. She looks really healthy and vigorous so I continue with the feeding schedule for now. Let's hope that this cruising just continues and that nothing bad happens in the upcoming days and weeks.
I am not really happy with my training this time. I didn't manage an even canopy which sucks. The stems in the mid section are just not keeping up with the outer branches and I don't now why because it was pretty even in the beginning of flowering. It is what it is.
// Day 21
Approximately the first third of flowering is done. She is very healthy. I lollipopped her and did a last major defoliation. She is still stretching a lot, which you can clearly see by comparing last weeks update with this weeks. I hope that the cruising just continues.
She drinks a lot, got 4L of nutritional water today. It's the 3rd watering since last weeks update, so she drinks and drinks more each week.
// Day 23
Sike.. I guess the day would come sooner or later but I got my first hermie? Really unfortunate since I already put in over 2 months of work. I want to finish this plant because it went so well. I will watch her every day and remove every try to produce pollen sacks. Maybe I can win this fight but man, it makes me really sad right now.
// Day 24
I am not sure if this is really a hermie. Can also be an early calyx. I will definitely learn a lot from this grow.
// Day 26
Watered her again and top dressed with All mix to just raise the soil level again. She looks gorgeous and really starts to stink right now, I love it. Her color also shifts to a darker green. It shouldn't be nitrogen toxicity because everything else looks perfect. I guess she just get's her color.
// Day 28
False alarm. The sacks, which I thought were pollen sacks, are just some sort of early calyx clusters. After observing them while looking for more sacks (they do not come alone), I realized that they popped massive hairs out of themselves. So I use this as a lesson: Not everything that looks like a herm is a herm. Sometimes, calyx clusters just look very similar, before they start to pop their hairs.
The trichomes start to fabricate some very nice terps. They're already so refreshing and sour, it's delicious. Nothing like citrus or lemon, just sour & fresh. It is hard to describe but very, very tasty. The buds start to fatten up but I think that this girl needs some more time than the standard 63 days of flowering, that are so common these days. But to be fair, it is a cross of sour diesel. And diesel just takes its time, right?
