I felt really dirty about posting this diary because I didn't document it from day 1. This tent is 3 months of topping, high stress training, and stem splitting to get this canopy exactly how I've wanted it. A level and even canopy. I have since flipped the tent into flower so we should have 65+ days of beautiful flowering to document. This was mostly a test because while I have done this method before I have never done it in such a small space. I wanted to maximize my yield from a 2 foot x 4 foot tent. I'm trying to use as little nutrients as possible while keeping the plant happy at the same time. I'm extremely self conscious about this grow so be nice ;) There are six plants in this tent bent all around the place all over each other. 4 Quantum Kush on the left and on the right in every picture (kind of cut off) are 2 Trainwreck. This diary is not about those Trainwreck since everyone has seen how Trainwreck grows but they'll be included in every shot seeing as they are literally all tied around the Quantum Kush. As previously states this tent in a 2 foot X 4 foot tent. There are two carbon filters (One on the intake and one on the exhaust vent) The lights are two 300 watt Viparspectra LED systems. Their actual watt consumption is 136 watts a piece totaling the watts for all the lighting in this tent at 272 watts. That may change as the canopy rises higher I may add supplemental T5 bars to the bottom for fuller popcorn nugs. I'd wager to say, with adding the fans in the wattage consumption, this grow is around 350 - 400 watts.

Ok , nice grow. Save T5 consumption on the popcorn in the bottom by trimming your plants legs when they will get taller, cuz they will get taller , when I look these plants , they've just finished there transition and flowers are just opening , they will stretch until the buds swell stage , probably 1 maybe 2 more weeks depending on your feeds and water schedules. Just trim the legs to avoid spending energy in the bottom , if you try spending energy on the bottom the plants will finish with more buds for sure, but smaller buds . There's nothing new under the sun , everything has been tested , light come from the sky , this is why the top of the leaves is used to convert the light by hitting the cells full of water and the under surface of the leaves is used to exchange the gas CO2/O2.I will follow your crop with a lot of interest, if you could just add a lil CFL for pictures with true colors it will be awesome 👍

@TheFairyBudMother, I believe they are underrated and for no reason. I have buddies who've done comparison grows side by side. Same Strain, Same nutrients, Same Lighting and one of the grows they lollipoped the bottom of the plant and in the other grow they let the plant just grow. They achieved 20% more flower in the end from not lollipopping their plants. Lolipopping the lower branches of your plant is only effective and needed if you don't have light penetration to those areas. I'll post pictures tonight when my lights come on to show how the light is having no trouble reflecting off the mylar and directly reaching the lower areas of the canopy. If light is hitting a solar panel there is no reason to disconnect the solar panel. (Though thats a bad analogy because solar panels are only as effective as the worst functioning unit in the sequence, but i digress) If they get hit with light they'll yield good buds. Now if we are talking about tertiary and quaternary branches beneath the canopy that are only receiving reflective light and not direct light it might be prudent.

Looks amazing! You're using the same lights I have as well for a comparably sized space. I have my lights oriented perpendicular to yours but my space isn't packed like this (next time, maybe!) nor am I optimizing the use of it. I haven't invested in a carbon filter as I'm legal in Cali and trying not to spend too much $. I also don't want to cause a nuisance or attract any problems and it now smells like Labatts brewery in my bedroom (mmm!!!) and you can catch a whiff of it outside. Any recommendations on the filter? I only close the room off at night to keep light out. In the future I hope to see your training process. Also how high do you keep your lights from the top of your canopy?

@TheFairyBudMother, Samesies :D I may need to change my ducting around later in flower so that everything is only going through one tent because I am noticing a little residual smell when my automatic glade sprayer runs out of juice. Other than that it does wonders. The smell isn't of utter dankness though, just smells like plants. It could be corn, strawberries, or the most fire nug in a baby tent you've ever seen. Good luck getting your ducting setup! Zip ties will be your new best friend. Cheers!

@DabCrab, I just ordered filter/fan/ducting. The odor is kind of like when you get near a dispensary. It's my favorite smell but I'd rather not advertise my new hobby.

DabCrabcommented7 years ago
@TheFairyBudMother, I'd say go for it buddy, it works wonders in our house. You'll notice the smell vanish!

@AlaskanGrownCaliRaised, Don't get me wrong, you should totally trim your girl up a bit. I just have a very different idea of how thats done than what I see a lot of people do. Around day 20, if you have anything that isn't showing pistols or any kind of resin glands on it you should trim those off. Thats honestly where I take most of my baby clones from if I have forgotten to take some prior to flowering. This time there won't be any need for that as I will be discontinuing my use of The Quantum Kush and Ia buddy has a rooted Trainwreck mom that if I would like to take clones from I may whenever I wish in the future.. Things that aren't flowering aren't needed on the plant. Anything that is flowering you should always keep. Those are were the good .3 - .5 nugs are found :D. You just have to 'talk' to the plant. She'll always tell you exactly what she wants and when she wants it. My future diaries will all be custom strains from this day forward. You'll get to see them made here.
CaliGrown
CaliGrowncommented7 years ago
@DabCrab, two word Bag Appeal. The only reason I see fit to do it at this point. I'm going to let them go next time and not trim up the lower section.
DabCrab
DabCrabcommented7 years ago
@AlaskanGrownCaliRaised, I would like to state that I don't consider anything that comes out of my mouth to be knowledge or fact; only personal experiences that have taught me a thing or two. Everyone has their own preferences. If you cut everything off the plant it's not hard to deduce that what you don't cut off with grow larger and thicker. Thicker and larger buds on the plant don't always mean higher yield though and it's a common misconception that it does. When you grow an 8 ft plant with a massive wide canopy if you lollipopped the whole thing you'd be losing a 1/4 to a 1/2 pound of popcorn nugs. It's more efficient to supplement lighting and make sure the plant grows as it wants to. You'd never see an outdoor grower lollipop their plants lower half so if you can achieve par lumens on the lower canopy why wouldn't you keep you? You dig mate?

@DabCrab, thanks I just read and apply 😂. Although this 14h light in flower with IR burst scares me but it's almost gotta work. I'm in northern hemisphere about even with Humboldt County if flowering starts August 1 that is a 14h day here. September 25 is the 12/12 day here (this year). Since a 10w plant finishes mid October. What do you think about it?
DabCrab
DabCrabcommented7 years ago
@Tazard1, I've seen your journals and I'm a huge fan of the way you are doing things :D Your tent is nice and you've done a great job keeping the temperature down for all those lights being in there. Those plants clearly love the spectrum you are giving them :D

Not pumping a light but I have (5) galaxyhydro 300w (100pcs @3w) UV and IR included. I use 4 to supplement the 1000w HPS and the other is in my clone vegative tent. They also make a 300w with 60 5w diodes unless you have plenty of room stay away from the 5w diodes.
DabCrab
DabCrabcommented7 years ago
@Tazard1, The technology has certainly come a long way even in the last few years alone. I can't wait to see what comes after COB's. Maybe Super COBS!!!!
Tazard
Tazardcommented7 years ago
@DabCrab, yeah these are 145+/-5w even with dual cooling fans.
DabCrab
DabCrabcommented7 years ago
@Tazard1, I've always admired Mars Hydro products. They do a good job and have a wide range of options for whatever your needs may be. Viparspectra are my poison at the moment. Gotta love a 300W light that averages 136W of power use. I bought these when they were the first people really using 5 watt diodes. http://ledgrowlightguide.com/viparspectra-reflector-series-review https://www.estagecraft.com/viparspectra-reflector-300-watt/ https://www.420beginner.com/viparspectra-300w-led-grow-light-review/ ^^^ A few reviews of them Now there are many people doing much different things like higher wattage diodes and even the new Chips on board technology (COB's). Once the life of these runs out I'll probably be building myself a COB light just to see for myself what all the hype is about. They've done wonders in a few of my friends gardens so I can't wait to try them out myself.

I like the lower buds who try to escape from the tent. It must be a bud explosion when you open the tent 😄
DabCrab
DabCrabcommented7 years ago
@JUNGLE_B4RNS, There just aren't enough good problems in growing. I'm happy to have one of them. The goal is to achieve the most from such a tiny space. I'm hoping to do that. We shall see :D

@DabCrab,yeah I see what you mean, it's a good problem 😄

@JUNGLE_B4RNS, Every time I open the tent they fall out. They are literally being supported by the negative pressure on the tent walls. It's a good time for sure :D

Still looks really good! Foxtail happens mostly when temps are to high? I get it alot, especialy in summer 👊
DabCrab
DabCrabcommented7 years ago
@GardenOfHerbs, Yeah, the problem was that the temperature never went above 75 degrees F. She's just such a sensitive plant that it could have been a multitude of problems. Every forum I've read on Trainwreck says that everything can cause her to foxtail. Having the Par be too high can even cause it which is just surprising to me.

@DabCrab, do you have issues during intraweekly updates with units changing (i.e. Inches to cm or ml/g to ml/l)?
DabCrab
DabCrabcommented7 years ago
@Tazard1, I've noticed that you have to pay a heck of a lot of attention to the input system here to make sure things are adequately depicted in your journals. I just want to make sure things are correct or as correct as they can be so people know exactly what I am doing.
