My first Painkiller seed germinated but got stuck in the seed husk and died. I had to germinated a 2nd one....
It's my first time growing from Royal Queen Seeds, I have high expectations for her.
My nurse is having to deal with some cold night time temps and they are stunting her growth.
At the end of the weeks I started to give her a super light feeding. I think she's strong enough now to be able to use some without being too overwhelmed.
The Naughty Nurse has legs! who knew?
She's really taking off now, much more leggy then anything else I'm growing right now. Reminds me of the Blueberry I just got finished growing.
My Naughty Nurse took off her top this week.
She's doing well, feeding light nutes, don't want to burn her when she's so young.
Defiantly the most "leggy" one that I'm growing right now.
My Naught Nurse is growing fast and she has a lot of space between nodes, much more then all of her roommates.
She got repotted into her forever pot (16 gallons) and has been moved under the Quantum lights. As you can see her growth has taken off.
Ms. Naughty is doing well. The tent has some sunflowers in to so the light is raised way up about 2'-3' away from her.
Upped the nutes on her as she's doing well and is strong enough to take it now.
My little nurse is continuing on her legginess, her nodes are far between. I’ve upped the nutes this week as there seems to be a bit of deficiency in her. Hopefully this will thicken her up in the next couple week, as my nurse is a little too thin for my liking.
The nurse is taking care of some patients staying with her. The Mexican twins, Esteban and Jose from the province of Habanero are by far her more troublesome patients.
Ms. Naughty continues to spread out, I'm not positive how I'm going to main-line/LST her but with how far the nodes are spaced apart I think I'm going to need to leave a lot of secondary branches on in order to fill out the area. Her leaves are large but not that densely packed so I'm guessing her buds will follow in a similar pattern.
She has a bit of a "droop" to her leaves/grow, not sure if this is natural or if the light is too intense (shouldn't be only 480w for the entire 4x4 tent) or if it's water or something else. I let her dry out a bit more but she still continued to droop, maybe this is just her style? or maybe I'm missing something obvious? maybe VPD is too high/low?
She's eating very well, her run off is measuring in the 300-400 ppm range and I've increased her feeding to 1,100 ppm now. I'd like to get her run off in the 500ppm range as I feel a 600ppm drop would be better then a 700-800ppm drop. She is showing no signs of overfeeding at this point.
My father-in-law was just here, he suffers from a few medical issues, Ms. Naughty here has a bunch of buds ear marked for him. He was excited to hear I was growing her for him and is looking forward to her bud.
Miss Naughty is still doing her leggy thing, but I think I’ve figured out how I’m going to grow her. I’ve get her split to 4 on the mainline and I’m going to manifold her on the 4 split. From the branches that manifold out I’m going to cut them at the 1st node, this will split them again so each manifold branch will have 2 branches from the lowest point. This *should* make her more dense/bushy and help produce more without taking over the entire tent. I’ll probably do the cuts next week, but I’m happy I have a plan for her now.
My Nurse is looking healthy and happy, the leaves are less droopy now. She’s starting to drink and eat more, At the end of the week I left her for 4 days without feed or water and when I fed/watered her on the 4th day she needed and extra 3L in order to get her to drip (April 6th on the feed chart should say 12L instead of 9, I took the picture before I made the adjustment). This never happened before so it means she’s drinking/feeding more and that makes me happy. Attached is my feed chart recording, April 6 is end of week 9 for Painkiller, so you can work back the weeks from there if you want.
I’m feeling the space pinch of the 4x4 tent and the last Bell Peppers and Habanero’s are going to have to come out now. The balancing act of maximizing the tent space and not overcrowding is now is full swing, I know I’m going to have some flowering stretch the question is how much do I need to leave for it?
Ms. Naughty and her group of friends, Bikini Girl and Ms. Aurora, have forced out all the bell and habanero peppers. There just isn’t enough room for them all anymore.
Ms. Naughty got a defoliation this week, took off some of the excess fan leaves so the tips could all get some good light. Also took of some of the more leggy branches on her. With the trim backs I’ve given her she’s now starting to thicken up a little and isn’t near as leggy as she wanted to be at the begging. The plan I had for her to “bush” her more and not let her be as leggy has really worked and I’m very happy with how it’s going so far.
Her 4 node split I bent the branches to follow the edge of the pot with stainless steel pins and it worked so well. This was the first time I tried that and with these big 16 gallon pots it works really well. I love the look of the big "Y" split going into the long “arc” the branches make around the pot, they look fantastic. Vert pleasing to the eye.
Ms. Naughty is finding herself in a bit of a routing. Grow like mad and fill up the area with dense foliage, followed by me going in with a weed wacker and taking back down to bare branches. She likes to grow and she likes to be to dense.
I’m needing to switch to 12/12 flower light here soon, I know it, and I can see it. But I need to get one of my lights upgraded with a second driver and some more LED strips. And both lights need to be rewired with the DC drivers moved out of the grow room. This means a lot of rewiring and I have to make up a bunch of cords. I’m working hard at it but with spring time hitting and other obligations taking up my after work time (such as my bee hives) I working as fast as I can.
I am very happy that Ms. Naught is thickening up, the constant pruning and training is helping a lot to stop her from being leggy.
My Naughty Nurse is now in flower!!! Look at how thick she grew since the last week, this girl just doesn’t stop. My poor little nurse got Thanos’ed again, took out the weed whacker and went after her hard. She might need to be admitted to an emergency ward with the way she looks now. But don’t worry she will bounce back thick and dense I’m sure.
My Naughty Nurse lives in the back corner that is hardest to get to so she doesn’t get as much pruning or attention as the other 2 girls.
She likes to grow lots of dense leaves, long branches, and with the start of flowering and the beginning of the stretch I like to take a lot off, keep the lower branches and bud sites limited so I don’t get a lot of popcorn. Taker her down like this helps to make more top buds that get good strong light.
I've now finished a lighting upgrade to the tent, there are now two 2'x4' lighting racks and as such they have been lowered down for the girls so to get better more even light. The intensity has also been raised a bit, before I was at 480w for the entire 4x4 tent, now I'm at 600w for the 4x4 tent.
Feeding strong and now in transition nutrients.
My Naughty Nurse is doing well, she loves to be leggy and branchy, I could see her bing a monster grow outside if you let her grow natural.
She is in her 2nd week of flower and the stretch is strong with this one. Constantly having to defoliate her as she loves to grow a ton of fan leaves.
The FloraNova Grow has now been dropped rom the nutes schedule and the Liquid KoolBloom is being added in low dosage.
My Naughty Nurse is stretching her legs off. This is now the end of week 3 and I'm hoping she will finally cool it down with all this stretching.
You can see the contrast of F17 to F21 on the bud development. F17 she has mostly green in the crowns and not much of actual buds, by F21 the white has really come in.
I've be periodic pruning during this week to thin out some of the crowded area's and to pull off the lowest buds to minimize popcorn.
Liquid KoolBloom and Diamond Nectar are now at full strength (or what I run as full strength)
My Naughty Nurse is doing well, her buds are starting to swell and she is getting really frosty. I don't know why but in my mind I thought she'd be less frosty because she had lower THC levels. But to be honest she is probably more frosty then the Northern Lights (est 22% thc) that is growing right next to her.
On day F23 I took a lot of fan leaves off, I didn't take a pre-picture only post pictures. She likes to grow a lot of fan leaves and I like to keep the buds in the light and not covered up by adjacent fan leaves and that takes away from the potency of the bud. Pulling leaves now means really tacky fingers, she is a very frosty and resinous girl.
With spring getting into full swing we are getting higher temps outside and more beautiful sunny days. But that's causing some issues with the room heating hub during the day and the portable A/C not being able to keep up with the temps. It's an issue I don't have a solution for yet, I'm trying a couple things out to see if I can mitigate it.
Sorry about the pictures, the corner of the tent/room this girl is in makes it really hard to take pictures, especially with how tall she has grown.
All pictures are from F35
My Naughty Nurse is doing well, he buds are a bit on the small side, but super frosty. She is long and leggy and would have been nice to put in a SCROG. I foresee me having issues of the buds being able to hold themselves up.
One thing that is very different on her compared to all the other girls on the grow right now (Northern Lights, Atomic Bomb, and Laughing Buddha) is that she pushes her PH levels down. Would love to hear form other Painkiller XL growers if they have experience the same thing. Ms Painkiller here I giver her water at 7ph and feed in the ~6.8ph range and her run off is always in the 6.0-6.3ph. All my other girls I give water at ~6.0ph and feed at ~6.2ph and their run off is in the ~6.5-6.6ph range, all the others "pull up" the PH levels while Painkiller XL pushes them down. Same soil, same lights, same nutes, same tent. Only thing I can think of is that maybe it's common thing for higher CBD stains?
Sorry about the pictures, the corner of the tent/room this girl is in makes it really hard to take pictures, especially with how tall she has grown.
My dehumidifier has been a PITA and not working correctly, it's been turning off intermittently and the humidity has been spiking into the high 50's. I've now got a 2nd dehumidifier in the room. I haven't had this issue before but I've never had this many big girl in the room at once.
All pictures from F41
My naughty nurse is doing well, she is frosting up nicely and the buds are starting to swell more. I can already see she is going to have issues with holding her cola's upright, she just doesn't have a lot of strength in her leggy branches. Been trying to keep her leaves to herself and make sure the buds have room to breath without being molested.
Ms. Naughty is not very strong, she's having some issues keeping her cola's vertical. I have several bamboo stakes in there to help her as well as tying her to adjacent colas so the "group" can support each other.
As you can see from the first trichome shots she is frosting in nicely. She's only day F49 in those shots on a girl that is suppose to go 8 or 9 weeks. We have a bit on amber on her but I'm not that happy with the bud density and I think letting her go towards the longer side it the thing to do. I'd also like more amber as I'd like to be able to sleep on her, too little amber might make her a bit to active for what I'm looking for.
I've been fighting high outside temps that are being very difficult for the A/C to keep up with. The room is a few degrees warmer then I'd like but she is handling it just fine. The leaves are not taco'ing and I've had no banana's on her unlike the Northern Lights in the same tent whom is doing both.
Naughty Nurse is frosting up nicely. Her trichomes are coming in very nicely and very dense. The cola's are stretching tall and gaining weight, weight that her branches can't quite handle on their own. The trichome pictures look great, she has clouded in nicely and has just a touch of amber here and there.
She's got her last feed on the first day of the week and the next 2 were just water. I'm planning to drop her early next week.
Temp in the room are still an issue with high outside ambient temps driving A/C hard to try and keep temps down, but the A/C just can't keep up. Painkiller is looking great though, she's not showing the heat stress that some of the other girls in the tent/room are showing.
All pictures are from F58, aka Harvest Day. She has only gotten PH corrected water during the few days of this week.
With the Northern lights gone I had to use a few bamboo sticks to prop her up since there is no scrog. She's got a very nice lemon/citrus smell to her. The cola's look nice and frosty with a slight purple tone to them.
On the trichome shots you can see a bit of amber coming and I think this is probably the perfect time to harvest this girl.
Next update will the the harvest shots and weights.
I’m writing this about a ~month after harvest and ~3 weeks cured.
👉The Good😃
Painkiller has really surprised us with her smoke. She is marked as 9% THC and 9% CBD by Royal Queen Seeds. For us this was the first time trying a strain that had this 1:1 THC:CBD balance and also the first time we’ve tried something that was this low in THC (I think 15% THC has been the lowest we’ve tried before). We really didn’t know what to expect and was primarily growing this strain for fathers and uncles whom can’t grow and have numerous health issues.
Upon trying my Naughty Nurse we were very pleasantly surprised by the effects, it is very nice, you can feel the high as being uplifting and relaxing but you keep you cognitive abilities. We were high, happy, and feeling great but had the added benefit that we could carry on complex discussions and tasks. As opposed to our usually get high and talk about how awesome different cheeses are as we stuff our faces.
It didn’t make us sleepy at all, but at the same time we smoked a bunch late in the day and we had no problems sleeping on it. Win-win
I can’t comment yet on how well it is for pain management or such, but I will come back and update this based on our experiences and feedback as we test it out.
One thing that us and some friends are really liking the Painkiller for is to blend it with one of our other strains (usually the Blueberry or Northern Lights 20+% THC strains). By blending it with the heavier indica’s we find it lightens them up a bit and extends the high out longer. The nice lemon/citrus flavour works very nicely for blending with other strains.
The buds on our girl were nice and big, normal/medium density, with a very good amount of trichomes and stickiness. This being my first CDB strain I wasn’t expecting the depth of trichomes she produced, we grew 4 strains this time around and I’d have to say she had the 2nd densest pattern of trichomes. The Atomic Bomb was the densest, the Painkiller was next, followed by the Northern Lights and the Laughing Buddha.
She has a very citrus/lemon and fresh smell to her, it’s inviting and nice. No harsh flavours or tones to her at all. It’s definitely a smell/flavour that everyone likes and is sure to please.
We had heat issues in our grow room this spring/summer, the outside temp went nuts and the A/C couldn’t keep the temp below 26, we jumped up into the 28-29 a lot. But the Painkiller did great, didn’t show any signs of heat or light stress and also didn’t show any banana’s (unlike our Laughing Buddha and Northern Lights that showed both). So she is a bit more resistant to heat stress then some of the other strains out there,
👉The Bad😔
The only “bad” thing I can really fault her for is that she has long, leggy, and weak branches. However I feel like this is being nit picky and not really anything “bad”. It’s just her style of growing and putting a scrog in would more then handle holding her up. She is a great girl to grow and I will be growing her again.
There are no real negative effects to the smoke that we have found so far. We can sleep fine on Painkiller and we haven't had any dry mouth or dry eyes.
👉Harvest In Numbers🙏
My Naughty Nurse shared a ~4’x4’ tent with 2 other girls (Atomic Bomb and Northern Lights). The tents grow area is a little under 4’x4’ and so I’m using 1.4 sq.m (15.1 sq ft) as the actual growing area.
During the grow I had heat issues in the grow room, I had to change the light schedule to run during the coolest parts of the night/morning and also resulted in my having to turn down the lights. So when I went to flower the lights started out at ~500w for the entire 4x4 tent, I then increased it over ~2-3 weeks up to 800w total for the entire 4x4 tent. However with the heat issues I then had to turn the lights down again to try and reduce the heat in the grow room, I ended turning them back down ending up at 600w. Realistically this grow got the 800w tent power for ~10 days and then it started to be turned down. This means that the actual wattage used is a bit hard to pin down since it changed during the grow. As a result I'm going to use the 800w total tent power, this was the peak power I used only for 7-10 days and thus it makes my numbers look worse then they realistically are.
Painkiller XL
250w LED above her
4.72 sq.ft (0.4375 sq.m)
1,263 g (44.55 oz) Wet Total
224.5 g (7.92 oz) Dry Total
17.8% Net dry weight
20 weeks growing + 1 week drying = 21 weeks total
224.5 g / 21 weeks = 10.7 g / week (0.38 oz /week)
224.5 g / 38 branches = 5.9 g / branch (0.21 oz / branch)
224.5 g / 250 watts = 0.90 g / watt
224.5 g / 0.4375 sq.m = 513.14 g / sq.m
RQS claims 500-550 g / m.sq and I hit 513 g / m.sq so the harvest amount was right in line with their claims. I had some issues keeping the cola’s vertical and not leaning on others, this was my fault for not running a scrog. I strongly feel a scrog would have increase the yield a bit more, probably pushing it up into the 550 g / sq.m territory.
Drying I really feel I let her over dry by 18-24 hours, I should have jarred her up the day before but I was feeling here and it felt a bit borderline. So I let her go another day, and of course it was a week day, and the extra 24 hours was a bit too much. Looking back on it I should have increased the humidity in the room from 50% to the 60-65% humidity and then that would have slowed down the drying a bit more. In the end it was 17.8% net dry yield from the wet trim and this is one of the lowest net yields I’ve ever gotten. I think it’s a bit dryer then 62% and the Boveda humidity packs will probably plump it up a bit more and I might actually gain a bit more weight in the jars.
👉Final Thoughts👈
Very happy with my Naughty Nurse, I think harvesting at F58 was perfect timing, just a bit of amber and very sticky and thick with trichomes. We are really liking the smoke, effects, and flavours. I would love to send this in to be tested at a lab for THC and CBD, hopefully that will happen and if it does I’ll update with the results.
I’ve been very happy with her, only thing I’m disappointed in is not having more. I’ll be growing painkiller again and hot on the heals of this beautiful girl I’m going to grow Euphoria from RQS that is also a 9% THC and 9% CDB but more on the indica side of the scale.
I’m going to be making a bunch of this into a tincture for the old farts in my life that have health issues. I’ll follow up with the feedback I get from them.
Below is the final update on the grow.
Naughty Nurse did well, she handled the excess heat in the room with ease and produced a very good yield. I don’t know if it’s a CBD thing, a Painkiller thing, or just something with my pheno I grew but the Painkiller was the only girl I’ve grown so far that pushes her PH down in the soil pot. All the other girls I’ve grown I put PH down in the water and feed with a PH around 6.2 and then pot settles in at around 6.5 ph. However Painkiller always had the PH run off low in the 6.1-6.3 ph range and I’d water with 7ph water and feed with 6.8 ph feed, otherwise she would pull her ph down into the 5’s. I’ve never had this before and I’m not sure why she did it up if you grow her measure your run off because you might need to adjust your PH very differently for her.
Running the different strains of plants makes it a bit harder to utilize a scrog and the Naught Nurse could have really benefited from a scrog. She grows nice big cola’s and likes to really stretch (probably 50% stretch) at the start of flower.
She is a bit on the hungry side and if I’ll probably feed her more the next time I grow her… and there will be a next time, she is just too good not to.
and how much will you wait to flower her, one week? she is gorgeous, so big!
as Im growing my first top quality strain, I'm a bit afraid of defoliating, we are at least 10 days away from flower, do you think I should do it now or after the stretch, or both? I didnt even topped her, just LST till now.. I should update the diary after I do another session of LST and feed her (just now)... sorry for so many questions, I think you're a superb grower =)
tchau, do Brazil
@NomNom, so you just top and defoliate for the mainline before switching to flower and give a lot of time to recover and grow... and then defoliate and lolly during the stretch...thanks for the tips.
I will update our diary now. I took 3 fan leaves and topped a few branches, She never stops growing. Good genetics is the best, she is totally different from everything I've grown. =)
@amazongrow, I like to defoliate and lolly pop a lot. I find it works well and I've done it a lot now so I'm not scared of it anymore. My S/O always cringes when I defoliate and lolly pop, but is always amazed how the plants "rage" back so thick and fast. I defoliate going into and during the first 3 weeks of flower hard. At least once a week.
Look at my "Funny Monk" (Laughing Buddha) diary (growdiaries.com/diaries/25851-funny-monk), it's 2 weeks into flowering and I show 2 defoliations/lolly popping both of the flowering weeks. And I can tell you there is at least 1 more heavy defoliation during those 2 weeks that I didn't take pictures of plus some lighter pruning on top of that.
My thing is that I try to get every bud sight to have direct light and that it has ok'ing air flow, I don't want any other leaves or buds blocking them. It's just my growing theory.
Do what you feel comfortable with, I'm sure you can get a good crop it other methods.
Interesting observations about cutting other strains with higher CBD strains, extending the high. Or, just enjoying the light high and doing tasks. I recently made these realizations - now I’m interested in a 1:1 ratio. Thanks NomNom!
@@BeanswithPork, I’m happy to spread the knowledge. I never smoked or grew CBD before, I didn’t know how great it would be to blended and no one ever mentioned it to me before. I hope you enjoy it as much as we have been.
@Cultus, Thanks, it's a 1:1 CBD:THC strain 9% CBD and 9% THC. It's going to be interesting to try. Mainly growing it for my father whom has cancer, an uncle who has bad lung pain (edibles for him), and my father in law who has bad arthritis. Gotta take care of the old farts.
hey bro, have you checked her leaves for mites (spider, cyclamen, broad)? i had a plant that looked just like her, she was lsted and mainlined and had new growth a little yellowing and droop. Later in the grow I found out that she still had a few mites and was lacking space to grow, isn't she a little tight in that corner? Also, I think this yellowing in new growth would sound like calmag def, maybe? I see you are feeding her calimagic, but.. well, I don't know.. I can just imagine growing in a 60l pot, my largest was 3gals (~14l)...
Anyway, keep an eye on her.. I will be following along too.
Tchau, do Brazil! =)
This time I didnt had the courage to defoliate like that during stretch. I did it in small doses from in the 2th and 3th week... not that much but I took some foliage.
I noticed more growth on the top buds since I did it, so.. I will do it next time and I will do it sooner.
I think now genetics is the key... this sensi seeds just does not stop growing.. I wish I had done the right mainline... next time. =)
