Mar. 16 - After some crappy germination luck and a noob mistake with another DWC grow, I’ve totally screwed the schedule. As a result, I’m running this auto with 2 others to ensure a decent haul and further variety before the summer growing season. At this point, it’s as much a confidence grow as it is a test run for the all new equipment and grow space. The trophy photoperiod sativa grows are gonna have to wait a cycle. Background Grew this strain once before with a horrible result and plan on doing it justice this time around😉. 100% germ rate on these beans. The effects are awesome, chilled indica and the taste and smell are distinctly cheesy and true to the name. Dinafem has crossed a cheese auto with an exodus cheese elite clone. An indica dominant hybrid. That said, her dominant traits on the last run showed more sativa in the leaves which was cool👍. I have a full 300 watts of top of the line lighting to play with now so this cycle will not only have better photos but also (hopefully) the kind of yields and density that the proponents of these COB lights keep raving about. What can I say friends - growing is an addiction that we all suffer with together👍😉😎. I expect this one to be the best of the bunch - just due to previous experience and a dialed in nute regimen. Thanks for stopp’n in and appreciate the discussion👍👊.

Week 2 - steady as she goes and growth is starting to pick up markedly as expected. She’s a little ahead of the Cali-snow and starting to show some full leaves. Looks like a slightly more indica dominant pheno and I gotta check my old diary on this one to compare once she matures a little more. Early signs are that she’ll be the giver of the group👍. Thanks for checkn er out - still a good amount of veg. Time to go. Week 3 update - she’s got her sea legs now and pumpn leaves out like mad every day. Nute sched per usual and not a whole lot to report. Should be starting lst any day now. Now a question - I’ve heard here stories of some folks clipping off the bottom growth tips on the first node when the plant is young (speaking specifically on autos) - I guess kind of a “bottom up” version of topping almost - all in an effort to divert the plants energy higher up the plant and closer to the most light I assume. Anybody have experience with this at all? Nonsense or worth a look? I’m considering giving it a go. Cheers and thanks in advance for the 2 cents.👊 April 4 update - after some quality discussion I decided not to try and reinvent the wheel and keep it simple. This plant is growing fast and vigorous so it’s the perfect opportunity to give some higher stress training a try. She’s out to the fifth node right now and seemed to be a prime candidate for a traditional fim so that’s what I did. Here’s to hoping she takes to it ok🤞. Should be a great comparison with the other autos that are lst only. Thanks again for the great input growmies! ✌️ 👊 April 5 update - 24 hours later the fim is starting to spread back out and she’s recovering well. Let’s just hope it worked🤞. Background Grew this strain once before with a horrible result and plan on doing it justice this time around😉. 100% germ rate on these beans. Please see April 3rd photo and weekly update comment. Considering snipping the lowest 2 growth tips early in an effort to focus more energy higher up the plant. This is an auto specific question and I will be doing lst regardless. All thoughts welcome👊

Hey whisp so I think everythings worth a try because you'll only know for sure by testing. If you went against this, I'd definitely say to look into the approximate time that this strain starts flowering, 4week, 6week, and defoliate/ or chop right when flowering is beginning. I kept putting off my chops until too far into flowering in my opinion and feel like if the plant had been given the signal sooner it would have channeled that energy to the budsites much more effectively. Since Dinafem is pretty solid and its an xxl version which i believe takes longer to finish, i dont think there'd be any harm in waiting a few weeks. Sorry I don't have more experience with the low growth tip cutting, I do feel like a plant this young and healthy could manage to be topped effectively though too, so just possible ideas. ✌️ good luck.

Coming into week 4 and she’s definitely responded to last weeks impromptu fim. For a couple days she seemed to bunch up on herself and then POOF, the cut opened right back up and her side branching started to pop out markedly. She’s Bushn out heavy now and ran some lst on er to spread er out even more. Little bits at a time over the last few days just to work some of the bud sites away from the main. Looks like she’s starting to show her sex a little too. Barring any unforeseen/dramatic turn of events she should really show off what she can do when we move into transition and flower. Added a comparative photo with the neighbouring Cali-snow too. These plants are essentially the same age but the difference in growth tip development is striking. Thanks again for the discussion and opinion folks - I dare say it might’ve turned a basic auto grow into an all timer if she keeps it up - super happy plant as far as I can tell. Cheers 👍😎👊 Background Grew this strain once before with a horrible result and plan on doing it justice this time around😉. 100% germ rate on these beans. Coming into week 5 and big changes. By comparison to the last one we grew - big difference in pheno - the last was obviously sativa dominant and this one is definitely Indica leaning. The fim didn’t take as hoped with the main stem still pushn up as a single cola. That said, it did achieve its primary goal which was to break apical dominance (somewhat anyway) and more importantly - promote side branching. The other branches have done really well as a result. Looks like we did it just in time too because this girl has started her transition to flower! The stretch has started in earnest and she doubled up on her size this week. Cleaned up and clipped out some lower, older growth draggn in the dirt as well as the overlapping fans inhibiting light exposure to the bud sites. Not too much right now, we’ll look to take off and strip down more after the stretch is over. There won’t really be much more lst either. Kinda wanna see just how much light penetration we’re gonna get with the new cob system so we’ll let em grow as high as they can😉👍. Changing over the nutes to bloom specific on the next feed. Thanks to everyone as always for taken a look as well as the inspiration to give something new a try. The stage is set for the flower show folks! 😎👌😎. Week 6 update - the stretch is on like donkey Kong! She’s doubled in size over the last week, some of the smell has started to come out and things are looking good👌. Interesting to note that her leaves are now starting to show a little more sativa which is cool. We went the week with 2 feeds only - a strong 5 litre rinse of plain calmag’d water. This was predominantly for the neighbour Cali-snow which was showing calcium deficiencies. Starting now, we’re back on with full strength feeds and bloom nutes. Giving her light defos as per usual and when needed. Just trying to minimize stress as best as possible. Per the side by side and week 4 update - it’s clear the impact that the fim has had on breaking the plants apical dominance. This is really impressive and has changed some of my preconceived notions about autos. Thanks for stoppn in and check’n er out folks - flower show come’n on fast!👊😎 Background Grew this strain once before with a horrible result and plan on doing it justice this time around😉. 100% germ rate on these beans. Week 7 update - coming in to week 3 of flower and this girl has exceeded expectations to this point. She’s stacking her buds like mad and still had some good stretch over week 6. The larger fan leaves are starting to pale a little bit but that seems common with this strain and there’s definitely no issues with nute regimen or vigour so whateves. I included a pic of the stalk which is a really good representation of the effect the FIM has had on the plants structure. You can see how she beefed up the damaged area and pushed out the nute distribution right at the spot where she was shaved. Suffice to say it’s had only beneficial impacts on her branching - we’ve now got three colas competing for “top performer” instead of one which was the whole point👍. It’s changed my approach to autos in general (props to @dudegrowsweed). Unfortunately, the relatively untrained comparative grow beside this one isn’t meeting expectations and looking generally pissed off about life. Kinda ironic that it was the one I left alone 🤷‍♂️. Not nearly the height or development that this girl has shown. April 28 update - Gave er a small prune to start the week and we’ll look to a big final defo at the end of the week when she moves into ripening. After that it’s just general maintenance and feeding to the finish. She’s resilient and has taken everything I’ve thrown at er. As always, thanks for the discussion and comments folks 👊! Week 8 update - we’re now through the stretch for the most part and it was time for her final big defo. Big is relative I guess when ur dealing with autos. My preference is to clip in smaller amounts to limit the possibility of plant stress and then little bits here and there throughout flower for maintenance. That said, this ones also less dense in terms of foliage than others, so she makes it easy. And talk about easy! There’s no such thing as a perfect grow but this one’s coming pretty close to it so far. She’s robust, we’ll spread, obviously takes well to training and the bud growth thus far has been phenomenal. Some of the pistils and sugar leaves are showing early signs of colour - she may be a short finisher🤔🤔. She’s also started to give off that notorious cheese stench we’ve been waiting for👍 - all is excellent😎 May 6 update - little bit of tip burn showing on the upper fans so we gave her only a calmag feed last water. No other issues👍 Background Grew this strain once before with a horrible result and plan on doing it justice this time around😉. 100% germ rate on these beans. Week 9 update - steady as she goes and not much to tell about this girl, she’s been great. We lst’d early and fim’d just in time for her to blow up like mad! She’s got great node spacing which makes it easy for pruning and at this point, it’s mostly just waiting on harvest. This marks the start of trich. Tracking weeks as per photo - they’ve still got a long ways to go. The cheese smell is pungent and strong and the sugar leaves are starting to colour some as well. Bud density and size is far more advanced at this stage than expected so looks like We got what we paid for with this new grow light👍👍👌💪. So glad we were able to fit these two autos in before the true summer season. Should be some great additional strain diversity for summer chilln👍😎. Thanks for taken a look as always👊. Week 10 update - probably 2-3 weeks to chop and she’s lookn great. Honestly, this thing is a beast. At 21” tall, each of the 3 or 4 main colas are packed with thick 15” buds. And quality buds too - straight from top to bottom. The light penetration is crazy. I can’t wait to flower a photo with this setup👍😎. Not much maintenance required to er. Spread enough early that the fans aren’t really gett’n in the way of any bud development so it’s mostly small clips here and there while waiting for chop day. The smell is starting to get overwhelmingly stinky. An earthy terp. Profile with a distinctively skunky and cheesy odour on the end👍. It’s between this and NYC Diesel for my fave chill’n and relaxation strain. Thankfully, there’s no comparison at all to the last run of this and we’re gonna have far more bud off this plant👍👍👍. Oh so awesome😎. Appreciate all who swing in to check er out - not long now folks👊 May 22 update - wow, lotta crazy changes in just the last few days. Trichs on the top buds are starting to amber out a little and her leaves are starting to colour on the fade👍. Really does look as though she’s gonna finish in the next 10 days or so given the speed of change. I’ll flip up some more trich photos when I have a chance (that’s a pain in the ass). Moving over to a straight ph’d water and gonna start ‘er on the flush. The end is now nigh friends👍😉😎👌 Background Grew this strain once before with a horrible result and plan on doing it justice this time around😉. 100% germ rate on these beans. Week 11 update - home stretch this week. She’s turned over and started the fade earlier than I expected by about a week. I give Mark at Dinafem credit - he knows the timelines on their breeds quite well😉👍. We’ve started the flush now and I figure I’ll get in 2-3 straight water feeds before chop. She’s lookn terrific and the smell is dank and pungent - pure skunk and cheese. Her leaves are fading to a brownish/purplish hue that’s gonna look beautiful in a few days. I haven’t yet copped a good feel of the buds but I can tell just from a look that they’re dense as hell😋. We’ll push another 15-25 litres of ph’d water through er’ this week and then let er dry out completely before the tear down. On a guess - high side of 2+ oz dry. If we clear 3oz. On this chick I’ll be extremely happy and likely reconsider my entire grow schedule (again) to alternate autos and photos. Thanks as always to everyone for the comments and discussion. Not around scope’n grows much these days (just too busy) so hope alls well with yours if I haven’t been able to stop in and check it out.👊 May 27 update - yep, she’s ready any time. Trichs lookn cloudy with a touch of amber throughout😎 - that’s my sweet spot. Another flush today and probably her last on Wednesday and then dry and chop👍. May 30 update - she’s turned over exceptionally quickly and She’s Gettn the chop👍. Trichs nice and cloudy with some select amber - I’ll get some shots of em on the harvest report👍. This is the last entry until the smoke folks! Method 📊📊 There really wasn’t much of a method to begin with. Needed a couple plants on the grow for a quick turnover and this bean fit the bill for an initial test run using the new grow light. She was so strong and robust early on that we FIM’d ‘er to break apical dominance and spread ‘er with lst to get as much light penetration as possible. The branching was very strong and required no yo-yoing or additional support. Based on prior experience - she seems to be a very stable strain and I didn’t see much pheno difference from plant to plant. Indica leaning but her fan leaves display sativa traits: 1:. Medium 🎛️🎛️🎛️🎛️ Coco is the go-to medium in lieu of soil when we grow indoors. Better drainage, faster growth rate (especially in veg.) and re-usable too! The fact that it’s nute neutral allows us to dictate exactly what the plant receives at all times. IMO - more manageable and precise than soil. Include a regular diet of calmag and ur good to grow.: 1:. The only knock is one of its greatest strengths. With better drainage comes more regular feedings. If you prefer to spend less time watering then soil will get you a day or two more between feedings at most stages. Yield🌴🌴🌴🌴🌴 The first run of this strain and it’s measly outcome was predominantly due to user error and imperfect conditions. This one was given every luxury we could afford and it blew up like mad! The grow light upgrade to COB tech. was worth every damn penny. Whether it’s the increased wattage or the spectrum from the light itself, this thing is a beast and I attribute a lot of the success on the grow to this one piece of equipment.: 1: The numbers... man I’m floored. Total dried yield - cheese: 5.62oz. That’s back to back, record breaking grows indoors but in this case - our yield destroys that of every grow previous by a massive margin. We pulled more yield off this one plant then we did off the last 2 plants combined: 1:😎. If you look at total harvest yield across both plants for this cycle, that’s 9.95oz’s. Crushes the record yield per cycle in the cabinet by 4oz. easy! 😎👌💪🤩. The stats say an avg. of 450-500g/m2 for this strain. Based on the rough size of my cabinet the avg. should be 99g/0.21m2. This is proportional to the other 2 grows in the same space. Our actual dry yield harvest - 159.32g/0.21m2. That’s 60% more than the approximated avg. yield per meter squared - nailed it!💪 Props👊👊👊👊👊 A great many thanks to everyone who stopped in and cared to take some interest in this cycle. I appreciate the support. Notable shoutouts start with @theweedman - dude, this cxb cob kit is phenomenal and thanks for the intel and putt’n me on to it. It’s gonna redefine my grow game - lol. @dudegrowsweed and @experimentgreen deserve some huge props as well. Really appreciated the discussion as well as the inspiration to give some higher stress training a try with autos. She did remarkably well and when it comes to future auto grows, I’ll probably look to at least a FIM technique every time: 1:. Change’n how I’ll be growing in the future y’all - cheers!👊. Final thank you to the community, whoever stops in to take a peek and GD as always. Nice to have a place to store all this stuff and learn some other stuff in the process.👊
