7 GDP, 3 White Widow by GDP regular seeds, all but one GDP popped. They were soaked in a shot glass of water for a week or so . Once the taproot was exposed, they were planted in rapid rooters. Once their roots emerged from the rapid rooters, they were transplanted into either 8oz or 16oz clear cups, inside red solo cups. The clear cups enable me to clearly see root development whereas the red solos protect the roots from light. Water was delivered entirely with a spray bottle, applied at least twice daily. Algae development was limited.
For this grow I will focus on one GDP female and one WWxGDP female, each in a 5 gallon smart pot of soil. As they are regular seeds, I'll take clones at the soonest moment, and flower in another room in order to establish sex, before transplanting the mother's into their smart pots. So far the hybrid WWxGDP have shown the greatest vitality, rising first from the rapid rooters and maintaining their lead through transplant.
Soil is:
Roots Organics ROGF+EcyMy Mycorrhizae (3 table spoons per 5gallons)+Earth Worm Castings(1lb/5gallons)+Jobes Organics Bone Meal (1 cup/5 gallons)
Nutrients for this grow will be strictly limited to the following:
True Plant Science N-Primer
True Plant Science CalMag OAC
True Plant Science Bloom Booster
Roots Organics Ancient Amber
Advanced Nutrients Big Bud
Terpinator (big maybe)
Several Iron Nails
Lights are:
1x Amazon Blurple 100 true watts - Veg
1xHyperTough 5000 Lumen LED (walmart brand) - Veg
2x Hipargero 240 true watts LED (one per plant). - Flower
I'll do my best to start each week on a Monday with followup photos on Friday.
Week 2 began with mixing 2ml/gal N-Primer and Calmag to the spray bottle. By mid week it was empty. I refilled with plain water and emptied today, again refilling with 2ml N-Primer and Calmag. The large plants loved it, smaller plants got a bit burned but aside from one GDP which was already struggling, they look good. Interestingly the tomato plants growing right beside got quiet burnt from the nutes. Root development is doing well, although I don't think water is reaching all the way to the bottom, indicating it's time to move on from the spray bottle and to begin pouring water directly onto the soil instead. I will return to foliar feeding in a week or so, once I have the nutes dialed in for direct application.
I topped the larger plants today by pinching off the top growth. It will take a week or so for them to recover and begin branching out, just in time for transplant.
True Plant Science states their N-Booster is slow release; however it appears to be pre chelated and is water soluble. The CalMag contains no iron, hence my intent to use iron nails later in the grow if necessary. The Jobes Blood meal is 2-14-0-15 (Calcium)-0(Magnesium)-0(Iron)
Please see week 1 for specific info about nutrients, soil and lights.
Week 3 is here! This is the week everything starts to kick off. As the photos show, root development has increased significantly for the larger plants, while the second group is laggin behind a bit but still doing strong. Based on appearance, the larger plants are ready for stronger nutes and this makes sense since the soil in the solo cups should be reaching depletion at 2-3 weeks. Water was delivered by shot glass, one ounce per cup and followed up with a bit of foliar feeding. I have mixed a second bottle at Week 2 strength, to be used on the smaller plants. I could certainly get away with transplanting now, but will wait until Friday to transplant the larger plants as I think their roots will begin wrapping right around then. I'm really hoping one or more of the larger ones turns out to be a female.
I added the Flower light to the veg closet and have set it to the veg setting which produces a fairly 'white' spectrum, positioned above the larger plants and supported by the home depot led. The smaller plants are now entirely under the amazon veg led I have.
The TDS off the tap is around 140 (could be far worse), with added nutrients around 200. Although this is not a straight line conversion to nutrient strength, it gives a bit of a picture what TDS will look like during flower.
Week 4 begins! Transplant was done last Wednesday with today being the first day since they have lost the 'transplant blues'.
Water is the same this week as last, with foliar feed moving entirely to cal mag.
Clones on Friday!
Week 6 starts now. Sorry for nothing from week 5. All plants were transplanted and cloned. Clones have been in flower for a week, no roots or preflowes yet though.
Flowering begins! I placed the largest four GDP and GDPxWW into the flower tent on 4/20. On 4/26 I identified one of the four as a male and removed him from the tent to hang out with the tomatoes and peppers. In a week or two I will remove some balls and cull him. He was replaced with the largest and most indica leaning GDP, #6. At this point I am 90% sure all four plants in the flower tent are females.
The clones are still not showing any sex or even roots which is frustrating but a good lesson on timing. I may take some additional clones for breeding purposes, especially of GDP #6.
The remaining plants will go into flower today so that we can call 4/27 the start of flower. Being that we are a week into flower for the larger plants, I will be transitioning to flower nutrients, including Big Bud this week. Unfortunately due to the week separation, the first three plants will be on their own nutes, and the remaining three on their own. The nutes shown for the week will be for the first group, with the second running on the prior weeks nutes.
The four plants are under a single 400w HID, the three plants under LEDs. The first group of plants will have the advantage of CO2 injection, the second will not as temps maintain themselves around 82 which is acceptable for flower.
I'm sorry for the delay. This grow got messed up in several ways and I'm honestly just happy I made it to harvest.
Summer came on fast and hard and the AC I thought I would be using wouldn't start. Tent temps went well over 100 around week 4 of flower and I wasn't able to do anything about it until the start of week 6.
Nonetheless the plants stretched fantastically, easily triple their starting height. Bud and teri production were both underwhelming with the exception of WW x GDP which turned out to be an excellent plant- more on that later.
I ended up using more nutes than intended with the inclusion of Roots Organics HPK and True Plant Science signal.
Harvest came early due to a tripped breaker I didn't catch until it was probably too late. None of the plants were flushed and as noted earlier, bud development was not complete.
I had a ton of fun growing this strain and highly recommend it to new growers or really anyone looking for an extremely hard hitting indica that yields better than a pure White Widow would.
