This is basically my favorite strain. I grew this last year and had very good results. For more check out my "Fibrowarrior" diary.
Relaxing yet uplifting. It's super versatile as well. I can veg on the couch or have a dance party while washing the dishes.
These babies are in front of a South East facing window on a heat mat set to 70. They are in Fox Farm Happy Frog soil. Started 3 feminized seeds, 2 have popped up, one isn't quite ready. No need for nutes yet.
From the Barneys Farm website:
"CBD BLUE SHARK™️ is an Indica dominant strain created by a cross of Skunk #1 and CBD Enhanced. Blueberry was crossed with the classic Shark Shock and finally bred with our CBD enriched Sativa to give this outstanding result. The plant is ideal for pain and nausea relief, and gives it’s user a relaxing and satisfying tranquil effect.
This is a fast flowering plant; ready to harvest in just 8-9 weeks of flowering. This strain is hardy and mould resistant, and gives a great yield of citrus flavours flecked with a hint of Jasmine."

2 of 3 seeds germed. They weren't as nice quality as the ones I bought last year but I'm still happy to be growing this year. Maybe some nutes next week.

Put the girls under a 45w grow light strip instead of just the window. They just got a little Fox Farm Big Bloom this week. Yummy earthworm castings and bat guano!

Not much going on this week. They were transplanted into larger pots and are adjusting. I'm not impressed with the Fox Farm Happy Frog soil so I'm thinking of adding a little Biochar this coming week.
I'm debating what to do about nutes this year. I bought a gallon of the Big Bloom and am currently using that. However I don't think I'm going to use the other Fox farm products I used last year. I'm thinking of going a more natural route. I've been taking a permaculture course and learning about soil health, so I'd rather not use mineral salts so I have healthier soil.
Blood Meal/Feather Meal for Nitrogen- Maybe a mix of both. Blood meal releases quickly while feather meal takes longer so you have a balance.
Bone Char for Phosphorus
Kelp Meal for Potassium
Blackstrap Molasses for general health especially flowering.
Biochar will give a great source of Carbon for water retention, and provide beneficial bacteria + Fungi.

It's been awhile since I updated to to a hellacious stomach bug, but these girls are doing well. They got a bit of blood meal for Nitrogen and I'm weaning of the grow lights on to more natural sun for when they go outside in a couple weeks when temps stabilize.

Like the Critical Cure, I gave 1 of my 2 Blue Sharks to my Grandma, so it's just the single plant. I gave it a pinch this week, and I'll repot in a couple days with more Ocean Forest and I'll be adding in some local fertilizer with kelp, worm castings and lobster shells that's 5-2-4. Babies could use a little more Nitrogen.

Still waiting on the weather. It's supposed to get down to 49F overnight on Tuesday, after that I should be good to transplant into the garden on Wednesday after I finish at the Farmers Market. I'll be keeping an AG19 row cover on them as they settle in and don't get chilled at night. I managed to get a hold of some biochar so that will be going in with the Ocean Forest potting soil, as well as some lime to avoid lockout which happened to me last year the first time they were exposed to heavy rain.

I finally got them in the garden! It was a trip getting out there, so they don't look the greatest because they're stressed. I made a video explaining almost everything except I forgot to mention that I added about 5-10% Biochar in with the Fox farm potting soil. Also, the row cover will protect them from pests.

I'm very happy with this weeks progress. They transitioned very well to the garden, which I'm chocking up to the row cover. They didn't need any water due to the thunderstorm we had last night, but I did make a ring around the base of each plant and gave them about 1-2 TBSP of the Coast of Maine Stonington Blend fertilizer. They also got their tomato cages.

Blue Shark is still trucking alone nicely. No sign of bugs or nute issues. I had a friend who had issues with a couple of her Girl Scout Cookies that she's doing. She definitely had some lockout from heavy rain that we've been getting. That's why I'm glad I put down lime, but also got away from using mineral salts, because I think that was definitely an issue last year. Very happy with the reults so far of going au naturale!

Blue Shark is still doing great, it's not the tallest, but definitely has the best deep green color and the largest leaves. Got a handful of the Coast of Maine fertilizer around the base watered in with some lime water. Bugs are looking for snacks so I used a bit of neem oil spray and put up a sticky trap. I've had so many bugs this year it's crazy. The cucumber beetles are out in full force and fornicating whenever I catch sight of them, and I've never had them as a pest before! Also, please forgive my slurring speech in the video, it's been a long week and my brain is completely addled😜

Blue Shark is still super happy, aside from bugs munching on her (I pulled an inchworm off in the video!) so I sprayed with more Neem oil, and I'll be watering in some Big Bloom and Molasses later. These photos are filling out the tomato cages nicely!
Sunday- I'm out picking snap please and look down and hey... wait, what?! I have a female cannabis plant growing out of my pea bed using the trellis for support! I laughed so hard. Not only because I didn't plant it but also because I didn't see it before. The thing is it smells just like Blue Shark. I'm wondering if it's the seed that didn't germinate before and I reused the soil. Thing is I put the peas out EARLY. Quite resilient.

This lady is looking really nice. It's been hot and dry all week, but rain is on the way for tomorrow. Looking at this one and the Critical Cure, I'm starting to wonder if I got them mixed up😒 The Critical Cure has longer thinner leaves even though it's supposed to be more indica and this one has much more broad leaves though it's supposed to be a more balanced hybrid. I think I'm going to have to refer to my diary last year, and I may have to do some transferring between diaries😩

This girl is still looking beautiful and filling out. She got a handful of the Coast of Maine 5-2-4 around her base, and I have some BT showing up tomorrow to combat those evil little inchworms that took up residence in some of the buds of the one I grew last year. Her color is great and she smells heavenly.

I can't wait for this girl to be ready! I love this strain. Here's why:
I have a friend who's mother started displaying early dementia a couple years ago. Now, she's in full blown Alzheimer's. She can't form sentences and just babbles random words, often sitting in front of a mirror for hours at a time, talking to herself. She's so confused. She can easily become combative and panicked. It's devastating because a couple years ago she was in her prime. She was healthy, fit, gorgeous, well spoken and the sweetest person you'd ever met. It can happen to anyone.
I made a batch of caramels using Blue Shark for Christmas. I had a couple bags leftover in my freezer. When this friend came up for the summer and his mother had deteriorated, I remembered reading about cannabis therapy with Alzheimer's patient and how THC and CBD can help to remove harmful brain plaques. I gave a bag of the caramels to this friend, but he was leery because his father is rather conservative. A month later they finally tried them. The father came up to me and thanked me. "Whatever you put in those, it's working" he said. He went on to say they had evened her out. Her mood swings and panic had drastically decreased. It had completely changed the father's stance on cannabis treatment. I teared up.
So yeah. I love this strain. not only for me, but it helps other people too. When I gave out small amounts of flower at Christmas to friends, this one was everyone's favorite. I've had a lot of people who have smoked high THC varieties for years saying that they prefer this strain instead.
So let's hope I can keep those inchworms and the mold at bay.
I've also included the other plant that popped up in my pea bed. I managed to extricate the peas and trellis without harming the plant, and I put up a tomato cage for support (I'll admit I did bend a couple branches) I'm 99% certain that it's Blue Shark based on the smell. I must have reused the soil from one that didn't germinate when I was starting my peas. Apparently it liked my homemade compost since it thrived in that, competing for space with the peas. It's a little behind the other one, not nearly as full since the peas were suffocating it a bit, but whatever I get out of this plant will definitely be a win!

Blue Shark is looking fab! Still a darker green than everyone else.
There are 2 videos this week, one where I explain how my plan for a tomato roof using materials I already had didn't work out, and the 2nd being about the rogue who grew in my pea bed (whom I affectionately call "Rogue One") who has been raised almost exclusively on my homemade compost.
I had people who were concerned last year when I made my own compost tea from the compost in my pile. People were concerned about bacteria, nutrient profile, etc. I feel like a lot of people get really regimented in their feeding, and they sort of forget that these are plants and they can adapt. They take what they need if it's available.
I moved away from using mineral salts this year because you have to be careful with so many of these fertilizers so that you don't burn the plant, you have to flush it so you don't get a harsh smoke, mineral salts causing lockout, etc.
If you stick with products that are natural you don't really have to worry about nute burn. You don't have to flush for an extended period of time before harvest. You don't have salts building up in the soil that are detrimental that you have to periodically flush and then add beneficial microbes back in.
There is another way.

Gave the photos a haircut today. Removed some fan leaves and lower branches that wouldn't amount to much. Gave the branches to my horse because he loves them! Tried enticing the ducks with fan leaves but they weren't having any of it. They prefer lettuce, not "The Devil's Lettuce"😂
I added in a little 5-1-1 fish fertilizer to my feeding regimen as well. Still picking off inchworms.
And as you can see I made it to the hardware store and put up this baby almost completely by myself. I only asked my husband to hold the center roof panel support while I screwed it in. Couldn't have been better timing since hurricane Dorian came through yesterday and we had plenty of rain. Of course it didn't fully protect them but the majority of the rain hit the roof. And then it got down to 49 F last night. It's really Fall now!
The big girl (I'm calling her Gen 2, let's see who puts that together) is starting to get frosty. Rogue One is still a little behind but I'm not worried. All in good time, all in good time...

Gen 2 still has the best color out of the bunch. She's getting frosty and I feel like she's going to finish sooner this year which is great because last year it was getting really cold. Her pistils are a pretty, light pick color. Rogue One is looking great and has shown so much improvement in the last few weeks after I was able to remove the peas. She has flourished with more light, but she's still going to finish later than Gen 2.

So I upped the ratio of Molasses this week for some extra sugar. She still looks glorious and has fabulous color. Sorry, BOTH of them do. Other than that I really don't have much to report. They still have a couple more weeks to go. I feel like Gen 2 will be 1st week of October and Rogue One will be the 2nd week. At that point there won't be much daylight left!👻

Alright, so I want you to ignore what I said in this video about harvest speculation. Looking at the trichs, it looks like Gen 2 is coming down this weekend because she does have some amber right now, but Rogue One will probably need another week.
All I know is I'm getting worried with how close everyone is getting here at the end. I won't have time for anything else. GAH! 😵
But Gen 2 looks beautiful and Rogue One is Gawgeous! (channeling my inner JVN) The top cola on Rogue One is going to be huge and I am praying that it doesn't get any mold or inchworms because it will be a sight to behold! I just can't believe the improvement it's had in the past few weeks. She has risen like a phoenix, and she is fierce!

Gen 2 was harvested on 10/2 but Rogue One needed another week. Will be posting harvest after I chop down Rogue One tomorrow but I'm already sad😢 No more trees. Grow season 2019 will be over.
But...
I'm gonna get a really good harvest out of these 2 and I can't wait to see how big the main cola on Rogue One is😊

Here we are, the end of my 2019 outdoor season. It's been a good season. Learned from some mistakes last year, tried some new things this year, some worked and some didn't but it's all good. I think all in all I came out with better quality bud than last year.
Blue Shark was of course a rock star. I love this strain not only for it's effects but also it's easy to grow. When other strains showed deficiencies she always had great color. She does have some issues with mold but that doesn't thwart me.
I had 30.69 oz of wet bud out of Gen 2 and 35.54 out of Rogue One. Now this is interesting because if you've followed along you'll know that Rogue One germinated in my pea bed after I recycled the soil she didn't germinate in. So she was behind. And then of course I didn't even figure out she was in there until July and by then she was being suffocated by the peas. She was showing deficiencies but wasn't too bad off. Fast forward to August when I removed the peas and gave her a cage. Then she exploded! She went from her lime green to a dark forest in hardly no time and I did no training with her whatsoever. Now, since she was out in the elements she did have a considerable amount of mold at the end. I'm going to say I had to remove at least 4oz. Yet with hardly any help from me and with the mold from not being under the tomato roof she still gave me more than Gen 2.
Maybe I should just stop topping...
Rogue One had beautiful purpling on her calyxes while Gen 2 had purple on the underside of her leaves on the veins. Both had that signature jasmine scent which is how I was able to identify Rogue One.
Gen 2 was harvested on October 2 and Rogue One on October 9. Gen 2 was actually a little overripe whereas Rogue One was a little under. Go figure.
I washed as always with 1/4 cup each of baking soda and lemon juice in 5 gallons of warm water and then rinsed in 5 gallons of plain cold water. It's always worth it to me given how much stuff come out in the wash because I know I don't want to smoke that! Currently hanging in the upstairs of the barn with an oscillating fan.
But despite Rogue One's lead in the wet bud category, the mold damage continued. I only ended up with 4.61 oz of dry bud from Rogue One, whereas Gen 2 gave me 5.62 oz of finished product. The Blue Shark I grew last year gave me 4.97 oz, so at 5.26 oz per plant we've gained a little.
So what have we learned from this diary?
1. The tomato roof definitely helps, being in a climate with cold and wet fall weather.
2. Topping doesn't necessarily give you larger yields.
3. These plants are more resilient than we're lead to believe.
4. You don't need to spend a ton of money on a complicated nutrient regimen to get good quality bud.
I think this really needs to be said because with people waking up to weed they understand that it can help so many of their symptoms better than pills, but when it comes to growing it can become confusing quickly with so many different complicated nutrient regimens. Take for example:
I have a friend with Multiple Sclerosis who got her Medical card. She's been using CBD oil but has to use a lot to get relief, and she's sensitive to THC. She told me she went into a dispensary and told them this, so they gave her a sativa claiming it wouldn't have any adverse effects. Not the case😱 So I gave her some of Gen 2 to try. And guess what? She loves it! She says it melts her muscle spasms in her back and she has to paranoia with it. So, yet another person finding relief with this 1:1 strain. I really wish more dispensaries would carry 1:1's. There are 3 dispensaries near me and it's all either high THC or CBD hemp, which is a shame. So, since dispensaries are not carrying 1:1's, she asked me if I would grow for her. But the thing is I'm not a licensed caregiver, and I really have no desire to draw attention to myself, especially with my husband being tolerant but not using (He's a D.A.R.E. child, but I'll turn him around in the end). She claims she has a black thumb but I'm not sure if I believe that.
Last year was my first year growing and I think I got a little too rigid following the Fox Farm schedule and administering 8 different products, because I was so worried I would do something wrong and it would cause a domino effect and everything would be lost (there's my generalized anxiety disorder....). But they're plants! I feel like with so many nutrient manufacturers promoting all these different products to go with all these schedules it's making it less appealing for patients to grow their own medicine. First you have to do the nutrients part A on this day and part B on this day and then part C and then you have to flush out the mineral salts on this day with this product and then you have to use this product to put good bacteria into the roots that the mineral salts killed in the first place that you washed out with the salts, and it just starts over again. With that being said, hydro grows and related setups I can understand need more nutrient management but outdoor can be so much easier (when it comes to nutes, bugs and the weather are a whole different topic😅).
So in summation: Get out there and grow your own weed!
