I found seeds in my Liberty Haze and in my Girl Scout Cookies... they were both feminized plants but they must have hermed without me realizing it! At first I only noticed seeds in my GSC. Then later when I was grinding up my Liberty Haze, I found some there too... crazy! Out of curiosity I germinated one just to see what will happen. Let's see how this goes! I have a huge pile of seeds now... so if this turns out well it will be a very long time before I need to buy any more seeds :P Maybe I'll force more plants to herm :P
I brought this outside today to harden her (?) off... moving toward outdoor growing over the summer 😊. Hoping I’ll have time for her to mature before the outdoor grow season is over.
She is looking really good. I have a feeling she'll be big and robust. Can't decide if I want to top her or just let her grow with a bit of LST and see how she turns out. The grow season is short so I don't want to risk topping I don't think.
Looks like Liberty Haze to me... but could be a cross with GSC. I'm not going to top or LST her at all. I want to let her grow 'au natural' and see how she looks. Out of curiosity.
The fan leaves are HUGE. I'm guessing this is expressing a lot of Liberty Haze traits. I'm sure she is a cross between GSC and Liberty Haze. The suspense is killing me!!
I'm not planning to top or train this one. I want to see how she turns out if I let her grow 'au naturel.' I have never let a plant simply grow without any intervention. I'm adding nutrients, but that's all I will to. No trimming or training.
She is a monster. Her fan leaves are as big as my hand... bigger even. She is growing quite happily in the dirt. I didn't top or trim her in any way. I wanted to see how she turns out au naturel :)
She is going to be HUGE. The fan leaves are bigger than my head... the size of dinner plates. I took a photo next to my hand to help show relative size/scale. All of the garden grew into a jungle over night it seems. I watered and fed the plants more than usual this week, and it really did make a difference.
She is suffering a bit. She isn't looking healthy with a bunch of wilty leaves. She is rather crowded in the garden. The tomatoes and zucchini are in the way as along with a Chemdog clone (I didn't journal this one) that ended up being a complete monster next to her.
This plant is absolutely HUGE. I'm pretty sure it's a Liberty Haze hybrid. This plant is about a foot taller than me. I'm keeping a close eye to make sure she is female!!!
She is a monster. She’s over 8 feet tall. I would never have believed it. And I didn’t top her or LST or anything at all. I just planted her and let her roll her own way.
We were on vacation this week and we didn't have time for good photos... but we took a few shots to show how tall she is now. I post more photos as soon as it stops raining to show the flower sites. It's pretty crazy really. We will have no shortage of flower this winter. I'm prepping the deep freeze for flower, butters and edibles :)
These buds are starting to fatten up little by little. They are starting to look frosty too..
I think she is done growing now. The's 9 feet tall... or 10 even. I can't reach the top without a ladder LOL!!
The buds are nice an fat, but not super frosty. She's healthy looking and going strong in spite of the cold Ontario temps. She has hermed, so we will have to wait and see how much seed I end up with.
The night temperatures are now dropping into the single digits. We have seen a low of 6C so far. I'm building a large frost shelter to extend the grow if needed, and also, next year I will try to get my plants into the dirt a couple of weeks sooner. I have learned a lot this summer, given that this was my first outdoor grow.. There are a number of things I will do differently next year. For example, I'll put them in the garden directly instead of leaving them in pots. I feel like the roots were constrained too much during the early stages of growth. I will space my plants out differently too. I had NO idea they would grow so big. I thought that only expert growers with a 'magic touch' would pull that off.
Also, now that we have the new irrigation system (root soakers) I will be able to make sure they are watered properly from the very beginning. We didn't get that in place until several weeks into the grow. I will chose varieties with the shortest flowering periods possible so I don't have to sweat bullets about frost as the grow season comes to an end!
She's maturing slowly. The flowers are fattening up. We need much more time... two weeks maybe? I've built a frost barrier to make sure we can see her to maturity without worrying about frost. I took a bud off and the tricomes are starting to show a tiny bit of amber...
As I have explained earlier on in the grow... or at least I think I did... this seed came from a Liberty Haze (Barney's) plant that I grew indoors beside a Girl Scout Cookies plant (Sun West Genetics). I see a lot of the Liberty Haze here... she's huge with plenty of orange in the flowers. I don't see much GSC which is frosty dense and on the smaller side. I this this plant is a thing of beauty but I hesitate to call her Liberty Haze cuz I'm not sure if Barney's Farm would appreciate it. They have done a really good job of marketing their genetics. What do you guys think? I might ask Barney's to comment on this. If the plant is a total rock star, maybe Barney's would want credit? Hard to say. At any rate, the main thing I learned from this outdoor grow is that the plants need more space. I had no idea I would be able to produce such huge plants. I thought this only happened in the jungle LOL!! 😝 Next year I will space my plants out a LOT more. This variety has done well though in the Eastern Ontario growing zone (zone 5) but she needs a tarp/protection from frost as she needs more time and the frost is coming. Temps this week are forecast as low 1C... too close for comfort!
The nights are cold now, and the days are not warming up the way they used to... I think we are ready to harvest. Ripening is slowing down. I'll give her a day or two more and then I'll do the chop! Stay tuned for the harvest reports.
I found this seed in bud that I harvested from my Barney's Liberty Haze plant. It was grown in my grow room and you can see my GrowDiray log of that plant. I am not sure exactly how I ended up with seeds... maybe there was light or temperature stress which resulted in a herm. In any case, I decided to grow this seed as a fun experiment. I didn't even know if the seed would germinate... but it grew just FINE. I didn't top it, or give it any special treatment. I guess you could say she grew 'native' or 'au naturel.' I have never grown outside before, but I had space in the garden, and the seedling looked healthy, so I hardened her off and popped her into the dirt. She ended up going into a huge monster of a plant. Standing over 9 feet tall I had to laugh out loud each time I climbed the ladder to inspect her top cola LOL. I had so much fun growing this plant.
I called her Majestic Haze (we live on Majestic Drive) because I'm not sure if Barney's would want me calling her Liberty Haze. I can't verify the genetics for sure :) I wonder how plant breeders handle those kinds of things??...
This bud is fun for parties and conversation. It starts out with an energetic vibe and then settles into a relaxed chill stoned feeling. We vaped our dried bud, and then we tried some of our hand rolled hash... then we settled in for the night. Woke up a sit high still LOL but it's Saturday and we don't need to go anywhere so it's all good LOL... This one is the bud of choice for house parties and silly Netflix watching. PS if you haven't see The Good Place... you need to get stoned and watch it.
The total dried weight of bud from this plant was just under one pound @310g and we also ended up with around 120g of frosty trim. We also rolled up about a gram of hash which has some serious kick :)

@TheBudWhisperer, Yup. I was hesitant but after trimming two 7 foot plants with yields of 1lb dry each... I agreed to give it a try. We found out that the trim it produces is top notch. We cook with our cannabis so it's perfect. We also put a bunch in our volcano and it worked as well as bud. I don't see a down side.
Beautiful looking girl she is a towering monster lol very nice to see this one ,I'm growing in southern Ontario and this year has been up and down for growing out here ..
you have the best updates, AnneW... and the best pics with you in them as a model, really puts things in perspective and it's refreshing to see ! i'm seeing ambers, quite a few maybe 25% ... what i always say (and i've only been at it three times so far, so pinch of salt...) is that many trichomes turn amber after the chop anyway. In other words, to me, she's ready to come down even today ! More trimming ! Hurray ! 🚀
@Njanne, #noexcuses #harvestmonth #canadianproblems get those blades out ! haha maybe the GSC would have gone into the taste, but many GSC crosses dont really carry the GSC forward that's the thing ! looking forward to it
@Njanne, "I don't think I can handle any more harvesting!" this is SUCH A CANADIAN PROBLEM 😅 with the trimming machines you can dry trim which gives a smoother smoke imo... but if you mess that up then you have way harder work... also my experience....
A bit of a strange leaf profile, but it is young and looks healthy...so.
I've been growing (just) lots of mystery seeds, it's kinda fun.
Anyway, best of luck!
@Njanne,
Well, you do say "growroom" there, so airflow is more of a concern I guess, but at least, outdoor that'd be different (hopefully).
In vegetation mold is fairly unlikely (from my experience at least), things like potassium (bi)carbonate, silica, compost tea can be used as foliar sprays for some resistance, as well as nutrient feeds.
From what I've seen, heavy stress causes mold. For instance other than applied stress, too dry, too wet continuously, or very sudden changes...and then in flowering things like density and possibly seeding, also caterpillars, and random debris that gathers/captures moisture and keeps in a specific place for a while.
I've been growing 160+ plants and none have had mold issues (with some extreme and very varied conditions, mostly straight outdoor) until continuous caterpillar damage, humidity, cold, different stressful situations hit in (late) flowering. Well, actually, there was one batch which some other people kept too moist and out of the sun that molded very very quickly, as 1 week old seedlings.
The best advice I have is to *try* not force your plant, but understand the simplest ways to improve conditions.
@@Ssomeguy, I just keep the soil moist. I don't want mold... Truthfully tho, the grow room is closer to 45 at the moment, I just didn't bother to update the data...
General comments about stuff I've experienced growing random plants though I've only been growing anything for a year or so... But I've grown many of them, very varied strains, strange conditions. The plants in general will stretch a lot with heat/light (large variations of direct and ambient, high peaks) naturally, their profile will generally match the root space, lots of rain (possibly with heat though) will reduce leaflet count and coverage, their roots prefer horizontal space. Having them hot and dry, then introduce to cold and moist can easily cause mildew in a short time. I had 4m tall plants (vertical space is easier to get) in 50cm diameter horizontal space that were still alive and generating pistils after 40 something weeks and seemed to want even more time, but conditions weren't good enough (cold and VERY low humidity/moisture levels).
Anyway, that plant of yours looked REALLY good when I saw it initially, and yeah Barney's in general seems excellent. Great growing though.
@Njanne,
I would give that at least 2 weeks, probably more, depending on how well she matures. Outer trichomes don't tell the full story regarding cannabinoids and terpenes.
@Njanne, that is a nice experiment, I guess. Feel free to drop by for a visit, im growing indoors in the Brazilian Amazon Rain Forest!
Happy growing!
Tchau, do Brazil! =)
Wow..you are a great cultivator🙏 ... I would be happy to give you a hand for cleaning ..... we are also quite similar 😉..... Congratulations ... true green thumb 👌
That plant looks fantastic. Sure it's going to look a bit heavy when it's super wet, but that thing looks like a pretty kickass plant to me. I'm like sitting here itching to transplant that thing though...
Anyway, keep it up!
@Njanne,
Yeah...I ran into problems with plants that were too tall/heavy in my first grow...was not expecting them to get to the sort of sizes they did. Good luck!
Hi, I was looking at light/heat stress earlier, and I noticed it can cause that strange leaf profile you initially had. Maybe initially something about your indoor lighting was slightly off? Not that I reckon that's really a problem, but you might want to check it out (in case it is of concern).
@Njanne,
Sorry, I can't link anything interesting. I just remember seeing some similar sorts of leaf profiles (kinda like crumpled or angular?), generally worse than your plant there though, related to light/heat. It could very easily be something else. I'd say it's a very minor issue unless you're constantly growing something with that (indoor) lighting, even if it's not something else that caused that.
😀Congratulations on your diary win!

I have questions:
- does a stress induced hermaphrodite produce pollen? (i.e. external pollen sacs) Or, do the calyxes just sort of internally convert to seeds.
My outdoor plants were for sure light stressed and produced seeds. For the plant that was maybe not directly stressed, I’m wondering if its possible that one of the hermaphrodite’s pollinated it. I believe this would produce feminized seeds (if you induce hermaphroditism by spraying a female, it should only have XX, and the female also XX).
So in other words, did Laughing Buddha get pollinated by a hermie, and my seeds are feminized, or did it get stressed and merely self pollinate?
- does a seed from a stressed hermaphrodite plant produce a feminized plant? Hermie plant? Are the future genetics more vulnerable to be hermie?
Your diary suggests there is no harm. I have had mixed results, a planted hermie seed produced something (Starfish Jr.), but every successive seed or clone was mutated and funky, producing both sex parts.
@@BeanswithPork, I honestly don't know, but this is something I'd like to learn more about. Yes, a stress induced herm does produce pollen... that much I don know. I don't know if the resulting seeds will certainly be female though... I think plants that herm, are genetically more likely to herm... so future generations would probably be increasingly likely to produce herms. I have heard growers complain that plants that herm easily, are poor genetics.
