India_Calcoen Iβm starting my first indoor grow! I decided to grow Zamnesiaβs landrace pack. I want to get familiar with the 'origins' of contemporary hybrid strains. Itβs going to be a challenge - growing radically different genetics with diverging growth and flowering times, all in the same tent. I will need a lot of patience, practice growing techniques and settle for a lower yield, but I love starting a new learning journey!
Iβm intrigued by the relationships between people and their (heritage) crops and animals. My other hobby is raising RonquiΓ¨res turkeys. The original breed of turkeys that were domesticated by the indigenous people of central America and brought to Europe by Spanish explorers in the early 1500s. The Belgian artist Joachim Beuckelaer painted a (dead) turkey in 1566 that looks exactly like my pet turkey tom named βHempieβ.

India_Calcoen My seed was planted on the 22nd directly into soil and germinated on the 26th of November. I transplanted the seed with it's growbag to a 12,5 litre Airpot on the 3rd of December. The growbags are quite handy when I want to transplant a seedling from the propagator to the pot. I can lift the seedling with it's soil easily and the roots grow easily through the growbag.
I have 4 seedlings growing at this moment. Thai from the Landrace Pack didn't germinate so I decided to grow Lamb's Bread instead. I planted the Lamb's Bread seed in the propagator on the 28th of November. I prepared a pot for it. I put a beer bottle to keep a hole for the seedling. I hoped to grow some new beer, but nothing happened πΊπ»ππ

Afghani is growing fast and fine! The soil is drying fast and I'm checking everyday if I need to water her. She gets plain water or water with Plagron Power Roots. I'm planning to train her and waiting untill she is large enough to top.

Last Wednesday I topped my Afghani. She has a thick stem and wide, big leaves. I did not expect she would have the same structure as my Panama Red and my Colombian Gold. Maybe their structures will change when I switch to 12/12, but for now they are all growing similar.
Today I decided to defoliate her and open her up a little. This is my first time training a plant. First time topping was a bit scary, but the plant is doing fine.

Afghani has a problem, but I donβt speak her language yet. When I saw the yellow tips I thought that she has a nutrition problem (overfed) and the droopy leaves made me think I overwatered her. I left her drying for a few days, but her fan leaves turned crispy! I touched them and they crumbled under my fingers. I decided to flush her today. I flushed her with 2,5 litres of plain water and I hope this will improve the situation.
At this moment I think she has a nitrogen poisoning. Batmix is a rich soil and I donβt know if Afghani likes this. Hopefully she finds her spirit again. Fingers crossed π€π

Iβm still trying to understand what Afghani needs. I gave her 1 litre plain water every other day and today I added 1 ml of Alga Grow, Power Root and Sugar Royal. According to the instructions on the bag of Batmix, I should start feeding her in her fourth week of grow. I started slow, hopefully she reacts good.
I defoliated all her damaged leaves.
I also decided to hang the lamp a bit higher. Maybe her new leaves are so narrow because she doesnβt like so much lightβ¦ π€·ββοΈ

I hung the lamp even higher. Itβs hanging 58 cm above her. Hopefully she recovers. I think the problem was and is light stress. She got another litre of water and feed today. The soil is drying very fast!

I noticed some brown spots and decided to add CalMag to her feeding water. Maybe itβs calcium deficiency? π€·ββοΈ

Afghani recovered enough to start the flowering. I switched the lights today. I still donβt know exactly what her problem is/was, but it sure isnβt overwatering. She drinks a lot! I keep on easy on the feeding and she keeps on getting CalMag. I think she will be fine βΊοΈ

Afghani is growing fast, drinking a lot and making lots of small side branches. I defoliated her today and even cut some small branches off that arenβt getting any light. Probably I should cut off some more, but that makes me scared. Iβm just going to wait now how she will change into flower. I switched the lights to 12/12 last week. The leaves are going into the slowjuicer to add some greens to my daily vegetables ππ₯¦π

Afghani is my tallest plant in the tent. She reached 90 centimetres now. Itβs curious that she is so tall and she has fine, narrow leaves, while my sativaβs are low thick bushes. I didnβt expect this. I have to put my lamp higher every couple of days because she is really growing towards the lamp.

Afghani smells nice and sweet. When I lift her, my head is inside the plant because she is so big! I defoliated her a little bit today. Not much because her leaves arenβt that large and they are not covering developing buds. Maybe next week some more, we will she. She had some growing problems, but the flowering looks fine. πΊ

Afghani is smelling wonderful and sweet. She is growing fine. Some of her pistills are turning a bit brown but thatβs because Iβm touching her a bit when Iβm watering the plants in the tent. Sometimes my shirt smells like Afghani and I like it β€οΈ

Two weeks ago I had an epidural and it left me with an intense headache that almost lasted for two weeks. I had to remain flat for most of the days and couldnβt do my business as usual. The first days after the procedure I even had to ask my husband to feed and water my plants. Fortunately everything went fine. Iβm glad that is over now! Usually I have a daily, chronic headache and a migraine 4-8 days a month, but the epidural headache was the worst ever!
The buds of my plants are filling up nicely. Afghani is maturing, her leaves are getting lighter, more pistills are getting brown. Some are maybe pollinated by my hermaphrodite Lambβs Bread, but I see more and more pistills getting brown even though I removed my hermie. Autumn is coming to my tent! Afghani doesn't have much shiny chrystals, but she smells very nice.

Afghani is developing differently from the other plants. She is not as dark green as the other plants and her buds are not really frosty. She is getting more yellow leaves. I cut the light green/yellow leaves off. Iβm going to look for my trichome-camera. I wonder how her buds look when magnified.

My female plants are doing fine on Womenβs day! She is reaching the end, harvest is near. I saw some clear, some milky and some amber trichomes. Hard to decide when to cut her down.
From now on Iβm going to give her only plain water.

I harvested Afghani. Her pistills were mostly brown and the trichomes a nice mix between clear, amber and milky.
Fine plant. Suffered from some deficiencies in the beginning, but recovered nicely. I could have trained her better and more, but I was afraid to stress her after she suffered so much in the beginning. Nice yield, but a lot of work to trim her.

I harvested Afghani and hung her upside down in a dark room (50-60% humidity) to dry her for 14 days. Maybe a bit too long, but I didnβt have the energy to process her earlier. After trimming I have 140 grams of nice, hard buds! These are the nicest buds I have ever seen. Not comparable to the harvest of my outdoor plants in 2025.
She grew for 110 days. Flowering took 54 days. I think I could have waited a little longer to harvest her, but after I saw some amber I wasnβt sure how fast the ripening of the buds would go. Iβm learning step by step. Satisfied with my first indoor grow πβΊοΈ
@Kushycat, thanks for the advice! I only knew adding silica helps against pests, because the plant gets harder to eat. But I didnβt knew it helps with recovery. Iβm going to look into that! Sounds interesting π§βΊοΈ
@India_Calcoen, For example, this one.
https://www.higarden.eu/terra-aquatica-supplements/silicate/
I have it too, and it saved my photoperiod plants last summer, together with amminos.
Great yield for one plant, and I think the timing was just right. Itβs sure to knock you outβit is an Afghani, after all.πΉ
Happy Harvest π₯¦πππΌ
Compared to last week, you can really see how much the buds have plumped up just in the last few days. Absolutely beautiful! I can't wait to see how they turn out after trimming and drying.
I think she is fading because she's an indica and doesn't take as long as the Panama, for example. In any case, she still looks great and has produced beautiful flowers.
Oh, that sounds awful. I sometimes get extremely severe headaches too, and I've had to endure a lot of other pain, but headaches are simply the worst. Luckily, I haven't had one in a while. Medication probably doesn't help you either? I've been taking pregabalin for nerve pain for some time now, and since then I've noticed that they are only very mild, if at all. CBD works a bit as a damper, but THC hardly helps me; it somehow makes it feel almost worse. How is it for you? Chronic pain is the plague!
Oh, and the plants look great! Your husband took good care of them!
@Kushycat, Iβm sorry you are also suffering from chronic pain π It really sucks.
I also have nerve pain, occipital neuralgia, and get treatment with Pulsed Radiofrequency (PRF) every three months. The nerve pain in my hands and feet is still manageable without treatment.
I like the effect of the THC, although my pain and my (minor) muscle spasms do get worse, just like you also described. But the positive thing I like about the THC is that I and donβt care about the pain. I feel calm and relaxed. My body can do whatever it wants and Iβm fine with everything π
@India_Calcoen, Yes, that's true. When you're super high, you don't really care anymore. Then I hardly notice it, or I'm so busy/have to focus so much on other things to make them work. π
