The one on the left is a Feminized Afghan Kush x Black Domina from world of seeds. The one on the right is a bag seed my friend game me. Both germinated at the same time.
I have transplanted them from keg cups to their final pots. The bag seed is outpacing the Indica cross. I have started both on a mild nutrient regime. I will be upping the nutes in a week or two for aggressive veg growth.
I am starting them on an aggressive veg formula. The bag seed is growing so much faster than the AFG x BD. It looks very stringy and tall. I think it's gonna be a male. I'm holding off on the nutes with the bag seed because of that. The Indica cross is growing very slow, short and bushy. I have to start thinking about which method I use during her grow. I think I am going with SCRoG.
As I suspected, the bag seed is showing signs of male sex organs. I don't want any nanners getting their seed into my tent so I am pulling it this week. I don't know enough to breed the plants so I am just going to dump the male. My next dilemma is the extra space in my tent I now have. I am going to germ one of my White Widow seeds with it and see if it will catch up to the AFG x BD.
Okay. A lot happened in week 7. The AFG x BD has responded well to the new nutrient regime. The plant has doubled in size over the last two weeks and is growing every day. She had a lot of growth under her canopy that I trimmed away and I cut two clones off some of her smaller branches. They were never going to amount to much anyway so I thought I would try and make my first clones. I also started to build a trullis with some PVC I had in my garage. I didn't have enough to complete the trullis so I will pick some PVC up tomorrow. I germinated a Afghan Kush seed from Canuk Seeds and I have no doubt it will be large enough to produce flowers when I am ready to put the AFG x BD in flower. I am shooting for flower in one month.
Still working on my canopy. I did some defoliation in order to encourage growth at the bud sites and improve circulation. I have 3-4 weeks until her sister is mature enough to flower. I took a gamble and germinated another seed two weeks ago because the one I originally planted with her turned out to be male. I hope it will be mature enough to produce a decent yield. Even though it will only have been growing for 4 weeks. By that time I expect most of the bud sites on the older plant to have grown through the trellis, and I should have a nice even canopy. The second plant will just be grown as is with very little training. I don't want to slow its growth at all.
Well... Shit! I wasn't expecting the Afghan Kush x Black Domina to reach the trellis so quick. She has grown over 2 inches in the last 5 days and that is despite TWO defoliation sessions in the last week. She just keeps growing leaves! Not getting very tall, just really bushy! The White Widow has nearly tripled in size over the last 5 days also. I think in 3 weeks, both plants will be ready to flower, The AFG x BD is ready now. I am just waiting on the WW to reach maturity before I flip them to flower.
My experiment with clones was a success. The two cuttings I clipped from the AFG x BD have rooted and are starting to grow. This plant is very hardy. I have been cutting and bending this poor plant over the last 9 weeks and she doesn't even bat an eye. Now that the clones have been transplanted, I don't know what to do with them. I guess I am just going to let them grow out over the next 3 weeks and let them flower with the rest of the tent. I might have bit off more than I can chew. I am limited on space in my tent.
I fucked up! I thought I would be clever and try to do an experiment with the White Widow. I cut off the major fan leaves in order to expose the off shoots to more light. I may have just shocked the hell out of her. We will see in the next week. Still planning on switching to flower in 2 weeks. I hope that the WW is ready by then. No signs of sex yet. However, I may not see it for another week or two as it is only 4 weeks from germination. I hope the stress doesn't make my feminized WW a hermie. My wife will kill me if I have screwed up her plant.
On the plus side the Afghan and Domina cross is killing it. She has the perfect canopy ready for flower and she is drinking a ton of nutrients. I am going through about a gallon every two days. The mother is super happy and the clones are starting to grow like crazy.
Nothing new to report. The Afghan x Black Domina is doing well. Did some LST to open the canopy for some other colas to reach the light. She filled the spaces in a matter of 24 hours. She is burning through nutrients like crazy and growing a ton of new bud sites. The White Widow is coming along. I have been doing some light LST to try and get these lower side branches even with the top two I formed from my topping two weeks ago. Something resembling a canopy is starting to take shape on her.
I'm getting anxious to flip these plants to flower. The White Widow is still not ready and my anxiety is starting to get the best of me. I was hoping to flip them tomorrow. However, the White Widow is still not showing any sex. I know it's a feminized seed. I just prefer to wait until they show sex to flower them.
Here we go! Wednesday 9/6/17 is the first day of 12/12. I spent the week doing top down trimming and I flushed each plant before starting Transition nutrients. In about 2-3 weeks, after they are done stretching. They will be on full blown flowering nutrients.
Not much to report. The plant is in full on stretch mode. She has grown 6 inches in the last week. She has been taking in a steady stream of feedings, about 1 gallon every other day. The tent is starting to fill up with green and the mother and two clones are really developing a stank to them. I usually keep all my power off at night while they sleep and crack the tent flap to let some of the humidity escape. Last night I was actually woken up by her smell. It's a very musky smell with a hint of fresh cut grass and pine. I think from now on I have to keep the circulation fan running at night.
Some great progress this week! Buds are exploding all over the Afghan cross. At the end of week 2 I flushed all the plants. My goal is to wash out all the nutrients and let the plants breath and rest for the next week. Once the pots dry from their flushing, I will move on to the next stage. On day 21 of flower all plants will be given pure blooming nutrients and all stress training has stopped.
Sooo.... The last week was a bit of a pain in the ass. I flushed the plant on day 14 and just gave the plant plain water for the remainder of week 3 in flower. By about day 18 I started to notice that the leaves were getting a little yellow on the top of my mother plant. The LED lights were only 7 inches from the canopy! I hadn't been paying attention to how much the plant had grown and how close it was to the light. I raised the lights so they are 14 inches above the canopy. I thought that would make the color of the leaves return. However, her condition started to get worse. Several of the fan leaves on the top of the plant started to curl up and fold like tacos. I also noticed that some of the top fan leaves were getting copper colored tops and edges. some of the lower leaves under the canopy began to fall off with severe deformities and grey patches.
Some research into the matter led me to believe that I had nutrient deficiencies. I knew that I had not fed her nutes in almost a week but I don't think that would lead to the plant's current condition as quickly as it did. I then tested the Ph runoff from the pot and it was incredibly acidic! Almost 5.0! My crap Ph pen had crapped out and was giving erroneous readings. I have since flushed the plant again and properly Ph'd the water. Now I have to wait and see if her condition improves. I hope this doesn't affect the yield too much.
Pro Tip: Always calibrate your meters before use!
Smells like pepper, fall leaves, and dirty feet. She fuckin stinks! Nothing new to report. Trichomes are starting to frost the plant nicely. I have pushed her to the limits as far as nutrients go. I think I will back off on the FloraGro and just stick to bloom nutes from here out. Some of her leaves are curling down. So, no more nitrogen for Daria. I added Liquid Koolbloom to her feeding schedule. She looks good. I hope the buds double in size over the next month. I will probably start the flush around the end of October. Provided the trichomes are all gloss.
Sorry about the quality of these pictures. My 4 year old Nikon CoolPix crapped out and I had to switch to my phone camera.
Nothing new to report. Just playing the waiting game. The mother and her clones are filling out well. Getting frosty and such. I am just finishing the fifth week of flower. I will probably flush on week 7 or 8. I like a little bit of longer flower time. I prefer to have an indica that glues me to the couch. So, I will be looking for at least 50% amber trichomes.
Sorry about the poor quality of pictures. Still using my phone's camera. Can't afford a new camera at the moment.
An early update. I just finished the girls nutrient regime for flower. The trichomes look mostly cloudy and are starting to get a few amber ones here and there. I just game the mother and her clones their last feeding. Then next time I need to feed them they will be getting flushed. I imagine the nutrients I just gave them will last until Friday. I will then flush and let them cleanse for the next two to three weeks. Then harvest!!! Can't wait!
Her buds are very dense and crystaly.
So.. The recommended time for flowering the Black Afghan is 45-55 days. We are at day 48. Her trichomes are mostly cloudy and the about 10% amber. I'm hoping in the next 7 days that I get at least 30% amber. If that's the case, I will be switching to an 8/16 light schedule for a few days before harvest. She has been getting plane Ph water for the last week. I think the next ten days should be enough to completely get her flushed. Hopefully by that time I will have a fair amount of amber trichomes.
I can hardly contain myself. Getting really excited to pull all these leaves off and see just how much she has produced. Her colas are super dense and heavy. A couple of the smaller branches are starting yield under her weight.
Almost time. Any day now. Probably going to hold out until next weekend. Trichomes on the calyxes are creamy white while the sugar leaves are a mix of cloudy and amber. She has been receiving clean water for the last 10 days. On Monday or Tuesday I am going to switch the light schedule to 8/16 until Friday. Then I'm cracking a beer and getting to work on this harvest!
3 more days!
I found out that I have to go out of town when I had planned on harvesting. So I did it a few days early. This plant has been a blast to grow. I was a little worried at first because she just wouldn't put on any inches. The plant only reached about 12 inches in 2 months. However, after the that she grew like crazy. It could have been due to my inexperience. I guess we will have to see on the next grow. I still have 5 more seeds of this plant. She flowered in about 9 weeks. Big fat dense colas. The next time around I need to pay better attention to the little scrubby side shoots. There were a lot of them. I ended up with about 60 grams of larf because of it. I should have done a better job of defoliating before flower and I should have kept her colas clear of the dense foliage. Having said that, she turned out a ton of bud!
Wet weight count:
Clone 1 - 179g
Clone 2 - 163g
Mother - 586g
Total - 994g
I will come back next week and update this with some more pictures and final dry weight.000
