PavementPunk I made my own living soil with premixed nutrients and minerals from KIS Organics and added peat moss, compost/manure, pumice, biochar, a little worm castings and worms maybe 15 or 20 from my backyard. It actually smells pretty good in the tent like good fresh soil. Or im i a weirdo lol. I feel like i did a decent job mixing the ratios and letting it cook for 3 weeks. It might be slightly light on nutrients but i do have a bit i saved for top dressing. Im hopeful this is a rewarding method. This seedling got a little stretchy. I used a heat mat for the first time and germinated directly into peat pucks. They popped a lot faster than i expected. Hopefully this doesn't hurt things too bad. Environment has been pretty good. Got the light at 16 inches @ 44% power 🀞happy growing yall ✌️

PavementPunk Sorry im a day or 2 late w my diaries. Pretty sure the fly issue is negatively affecting 2 of my 3 seedlings. Sigh. Wondering if living soil was a mistake. I put down some pumice around the base of these babies in a small circle as a mulch to hopefully protect their roots. Watered them only where my rocks are. I planted cover crops for the living soil watered everything in and covered it with some dry peat pumice mix i had. I hit that with a decent layer of diatomaceous earth too and another sticky trap or 2. Hoping this helps get it under control. I also gave them all a good bottom watering more to keep the soil moist than to actually water the seedlings, while keeping top layer dry for the flies. I got a flying insect plug in trap on the way too. The BPP RF3 is looking pretty good and doing well at least there is that lol happy growing yall ✌️

PavementPunk fish & kelp w myco + 1/4 strength hopefully helps. bugs suck hopefully thursday this WDG 3000 bti will tko them. The bpp rf3 was doing better than the other 2 for the first few weeks, now nycd and grape ape seem to have bounced back some and purple punch is suffering now. Im a hack. What is this grow!? Lol fml man. Few more days. I wanna start my photo seedlings soon. Im hopeful this living soil will be good once i get the flies dealt with. Still figuring out this light too. Got it about 16 inches from canopy @ 65% easing it up to 80% over a week or 2. Wish me luck friends happy growing ✌️

Top dress with diotomatious earth. That kills the eggs. Yellow traps the adults.

@Natrona, im probably to blame. The soil sat outside uncovered cooking for 3 weeks. Pretty sure thats where my bugs came from. I didnt realize covering it was so important

@PavementPunk, I keep my soil in 27gal storage totes.

@Natrona, thats smart. idk i figured some rain and air would be fine. I mixed it in a large probably 55 gallon tote outside but the top to it is long gone. It probably wouldn't have fit anymore anyway. I thought about wrapping a garbage bag around the top.living soil is super attractive to flies...Idk i didnt see this becoming a huge issue lol or i would have covered it or brought it inside. Sighs lol i got this wdg3000 stuff coming but it doesnt get here for like a week. This grow is just hit πŸ˜†

Agreed with topping with dio earth or perlite, those sharp edges will kill those bugs!
