Oyziphar I named this diary : #NOVEGCANNABIS Challenge π€Ί
This is because, while I was scrolling on Instagram, I stumbled on a company called INNEXO, publishing about not vegging plants anymore. The story was picked up by Jorge Cervantes who visited the company and wrote an article about it for the High Times. You can read it yourself, and reflect on it.
Aiming for short growperiods or no veg at all, you need many plants ,and harvest more often. I used to grow SOG with short vegging time. But that was before the police start counting plants. Nowadays I grow as little plants as possible, but this takes a lot of time vegging and it's expensive on electricityπ‘(18 hours instead of 12).
Between 9 Februariy and 15 February I took quite a few cuttings from my mother plants that I had overwintered. That is why I now have enough clones to put 18 plants under 2x 600-watt lamps, instead of 8 plants.
I was already started growing when I read the article, so it's not really noveg, but more like 1 weekveg....

Oyziphar When I started this diary, I hadn't read the article about novegging yet. So, I'd let the plants grow for a week before I started with the #NoVegCannabis method.

Oyziphar Official start of the flowering period, with (almost) no vegging.
I watered the plants only once after repotting. I enriched the water with Orgatrex and Bactrex.

Oyziphar I contacted Innexo and let them know that I had accepted their #NoVegCannabis challenge, and referred them to this diary. According to them, I was actually already a bit late in transplanting my cuttings. They gave me a link to an article they had written regarding cuttings for the #noveg method. Here is the link to the interesting article : https://www.innexo.nl/post/from-cutting-to-canopy-optimizing-transplant-readiness-in-no-veg-cannabis
My plants are in the second week of growth. The plants have taken root by now and have started both growing and flowering. The side branches are not developing very well. We will wait and see what happens in the coming weeks.
Following advice from Innexo, I didn't water the plants.

Oyziphar Plants have doubled in sizeπ. With only one main stem, they will get big enough for the rather small size of the growroomπ.
The Biscotti #7 has the most roots at the time I transplanted them, so they were the tallest (30-33cm) plants the first weekπ. But the Triple G's are taller (38-44cm) nowπ. The wedding Gelato's are the smallest (26-27cm) now π. The Cookies Gelato's are also growing rapidly (28-37cm).
I watered the plants 3 time this week. Once I had fortifies the water with BIO PK 5-8 from BioTabs. I also sprayed them once with BoomBoom spray from BioTabs π

Oyziphar DAY 36 of flowering πΌπΌπΌ
The plants have finished growing. They remained small due to the short growth period. Actually, I find them too small to fill the space properly. Except for the Bisotti #7, they also have almost no side branches. I should have put 16 plants per lamp instead of 9.
I consider that to be the major problem with the no-veg or short-veg methods: you need many more plants. As a result, you will have to spend a lot more money on seeds. If you have mother plants, this is less of a problem, because you can make cuttings cheaply. Due to the short growth period, you can save on electricity and bring in an extra harvest every year.
The second problem is that with a larger number of plants, you risk a larger fine in the event of a raid. Often, the number of plants is directly proportional to the financial penalty.
Because I used recycled soil, I over-fertilized the plants. The leaves are super dark green and some leaves are burnt. There was probably still too much nutrition in the soil. Hopefully, this will not negatively affect the flowering too much.

Oyziphar DAY 43 of flowering πΌπΌπΌ
I'm not that happy with this grow. Because I used recycled soil, I over-fertilized the plants. The leaves are super dark green and some leaves are burnt. There was probably still too much nutrition in the soil. The quality looks good, but the yield will be not that great.

Oyziphar πPlants have ripened quickly. As I wrote last week, plants are likely over-fertilized, due to manure residues in the recycled soil I used. ππBecause the plants remained small, the harvest quantity will be somewhat disappointing π’. However, the quality of the buds is very good: lots of trichomes π
π₯ Thoughts about #NOVEG method: π₯
With the cultivation process of the No-Veg (or nearly No-Veg) method, you will be harvesting sooner, and the quality might be better (more light, so more developed buds). The plants need to produce less biomass (leaves and stems), which requires extra energy. You also do not need to defoliate with the No-Veg method. You will also be able to harvest more often per year. A disadvantage, however, is that you need many more plants to create a Sea of ββGreen. Most hobby growers try to limit the number of plants, but with the No-Veg method, you need many plants. Moreover, if you have to buy seeds, the No-Veg method is also more expensive. If you can make cuttings yourself, it is cheaper. It is important, however, that the cuttings are in excellent condition. In summary:
β―οΈ SUMMARY β―οΈ
β
+ fast method
+ more frequent harvesting
+ high quality of buds
+ low biomass
+ no defoliation
+ less fertilizer
+ suitable for low spaces
β
- more plants needed
- higher costs for seeds or cuttings
- lower yield per plant
- higher quality requirements for cuttings
- higher follow-up required, more intense gardening
@Mia_BIOTABS, We keep learning something new with every grow. I have learned so much here on growdiaries. Thx to all growers, breeders, fertilizermanufactures and everybody else with love for the plant πππ
Thanks for sharing! I put my old soil aside for my next indoor grow in October and now I know I should be careful with that. π Good luck with your grow πππ
@India_Calcoen, Yeah, I used my old soil before. Worked fined in the past. But this time it was not a success. Probably because the plants only had a short growth period.
@Oyziphar, i think if they were older, and planted into the soilmix, they would not care, i hadt the phenomenon with clones--they were much more sensitive than plant, that had a good time in vegetation
