This northern light was easy to grow, although it did suffer from some heat stress when temperatures got (very) high. It managed to survive the slugs and spiders!

Grow Questions

Jmancstarted grow question 6 years ago
When should I start feeding with nutrients? I am using 1/3 soil (John innes no.1) 1/3 coir and 1/3 perlite. The soil says it has feed for 4 weeks, but I'm only using a 1/3 in my mix. Don't want to overload with nutrients when young? Maybe commencing week 3?

Hey there Jmank, if you're outdoors in soil, the best thing you can do is let the healthy soil give nutrients to the plant. Look for "companion plants" for your next grow. For an auto, you really dont need to feed anything the first few weeks at all, and after that only sparingly, every 10 days max. If anything I would foliar spray the seedling with kelp extract like rhizotonic ever few days, then which to molasses and amino acids for the rest of the feeding. One thing i will say is that in soil or in coco, if you're growing weed you absolutely need micro nutrients like cal mag and sulfur ... for sure have that on hand and start those around the mid of the third week of veg, hope this helps ! ๐Ÿš€

The slugs have got to my leaves pretty badly. Should I cut them off or leave them be?

Hi @Jmanc your leaves will recover fine but it's important to treat the slug problem immediately with snail baits or better still some diatomaceous earth because not only does it deter pests it also is a natural silica source and is beneficial for your plants ๐Ÿ˜€๐Ÿ˜€ Win Win with DE Simply sprinkle some around the plants soil and you can also mix a qtr teaspoon with 500mls of water and spray onto the leaves. Hope I have provided a solution to your question Mate

Hi @Jmanc! When you grow an autoflowering strain you don't know yet, it is always a good idea to be very careful about the nutrient intakes. Recovering from overfeeding is harder than solving an slight deficiency. With a good soil your plant should be able to find everything she needs for a few weeks. You will probably need to watch her during the pre-flowering stretch, since this phenomenon requires more Nitrogen for a few days. In this situation I wouldn't give her anything but root-stimulator (always helpful during the first weeks) and see how it goes after a few weeks. If the bottom leaves start to turn yellow or if the upper new growth are showing spots, then give her a good meal with adjusted pH and EC. Hope this will help, keep us up-to-date and happy growing! ๐Ÿ‘Š

@CRiSPrGrow, appreciate your answer. I do have some companion plants growing but they are all in separate pots. I have biobizz grow and bloom, will they be ok to use?
