FatnastyzBudz Dropped this bad girl in some water and a bit of peroxide. Scuffed shell with sandpaper first.
30ish hours later, we got a tiny tail!
Moved to jiffy puck and wait for her to sprout š±
We have issues in between this time. So we shall see how it goes!

FatnastyzBudz Fast Buds Auto Run - Day 1 | Operation Shell Removal
Today officially marks Day 1 of another exciting Fast Buds autoflower run, and this little lady decided to make an entrance.
Everything started out normally until she emerged wearing a stubborn helmet head. After watching closely and giving her some time to work it out herself, it became clear that intervention might be needed.
Rather than risk these giant cat paws doing more harm than good, I officially enlisted the missus for Operation Shell Removal. š¹
Mission Status: SUCCESS!
The seed shell and membrane were carefully removed, and within 24 hours she rewarded us by fully opening her cotyledons and beginning to push out her first true leaves. No damage, no drama, and she's already looking happy and healthy.
Since the taproot had already emerged from the bottom of the jiffy puck, I decided it was time to move her into her final home and let those roots continue exploring.
Genetics
This grow is proudly sponsored by Fast Buds Genetics, and I'm excited to document the entire journey from seedling to harvest.
Medium & Pot Setup
For this run, she's been transplanted into:
- 3 Gallon Fabric Pot
- Pro-Mix HP
- 1 Tablespoon BuildASoil Craft Blend
- 1/8 Cup Earthworm Castings
- 1 Teaspoon Mycorrhizae applied directly to the transplant hole
My goal is to keep this grow simple and let the plant do what it does best.
The BuildASoil Craft Blend will serve as the primary nutrient source during early vegetative growth, providing a gentle organic nutrient charge while the earthworm castings help introduce beneficial biology and organic matter into the root zone. The mycorrhizae were applied directly at transplant to maximize root contact and encourage rapid root development from the very beginning.
A huge thank you to Pro-Mix for providing the Pro-Mix HP used in this grow. The excellent drainage and aeration make it a fantastic medium for developing strong roots and healthy plants.
Transplant Day
Once the taproot emerged from the jiffy puck and the seedling showed signs of recovering from the helmet head issue, she was transplanted directly into her final 3-gallon container.
After transplant, she received approximately 250 mL of water around the root zone to settle the medium, activate the mycorrhizae, and encourage roots to begin exploring their new environment.
At this stage, the focus isn't explosive top growth. The mission is simple:
- Build roots
- Establish biology
- Minimize stress
- Create a strong foundation
Everything above the soil starts with what happens below it.
Environmental Monitoring
This journal also marks my first full grow using the new Ecowitt WH52 Soil EC Sensor.
The WH52 sensor was installed at transplant and will remain in the pot throughout the grow, allowing me to monitor:
- Root zone moisture
- Electrical conductivity (EC)
- Root zone temperature
I'm excited to see what kind of data we can collect throughout the grow and compare it against previous runs. Having real-time root zone information should provide some valuable insights as she develops.
A huge thank you to Ecowitt for the opportunity to test and showcase the WH52 Soil EC Sensor.
Lighting
The seedling is currently receiving approximately 150-200 PPFD while she establishes herself in the new container.
For now, less is more. Healthy roots, steady growth, and minimal stress are the priorities.
Looking Ahead
Operation Shell Removal was a success, the transplant is complete, and the first true leaves are already reaching for the light.
Now it's time to let the roots take over, settle into the Pro-Mix HP, and begin building the foundation for what I hope will be another amazing Fast Buds grow.
Thanks for following along. The adventure is just getting started.
