Defoliation Removing leaves will increase yield, airflow and light penetration. It will also reduce the chance of mold and mildew hugely. Further it will cut down on wind resistance. Staking Surround the big plants with stakes driven into the ground and anchor branches to them. Bend branches gently away from one another either vertically or horizontally. This will further improve airflow and light penetration while also stopping the wind from carrying off branches or whole plants.
