Clearly getting in to flower now, the smell is to much for my filter it seems. I'm starting to smell it Faintly in my house. May have to get a new one if the smell gets any stronger.
Day 36: first major issue for this grow, the hps light is way to hot. My vent is just not powerful enough, and fixing it is not an option right now. Going to switch back to the MH for now, not sure how that will work out. Anybody with any experience flowering with MH?
Day 39: defoliation time. Added another layer of top dressing (1litre fox farm soil and 4 tablespoons gaia green per pot) turned down the MH to 150 watts to hopefully reduce any stress from defoliation. Will increase gradually over next 2 days.
Day 42: the plants seems to be fine after their defoliation, they just keep getting bigger every day, but that should stop fairly soon I think.
With autoflowers, at what point do you switch from metal halide to high pressure sodium lights? When the pistils first show or when you actually start to see budlets?
Tricky but simple. If you want the plant to stretch then use the HPS when you see the 1st pistils so she'll gain height, but if you want short plants do the whole stretch under MH then switch to hps when the stretch is done ( when the vertical grow is finish ). According to me it is all about the spectrum : Blue to get them short , orange to get them tall , 50/50 to get ... best of both world
@Certifyed252, it's just a little 4 inch, I think 195 cfm with an attached external filter. May just need a new filter it's almost a year old and been through 2 grows. 3x3x6 tent
Hi @indoorontario! I would switch to HPS once the plant has ended its stretch, indeed HPS is great to make the buds fatten up, not so great when it comes to the pre-flowering stage (heat + bloom spectrum => stretch => poor yield). Happy growing!
@Stick, thanks for your input, any and all wisdom is appreciated when it comes to this subject (💚weed) unfortunately I have to stick with my MH for this grow as the hps is producing way to much heat for my ventilation system.
Awesome auto grow very nice ! they are stacking up so nice, they are going to be huge buds i think ! Growing for the cat at the same time love it ! 😋👍 🙏💪😎👌
@indoorontario
Metal halide lamps come in a range of color temps, but are usually too cool for proper flowering, which wants 2700-3000K. What’s your Kelvin temperature? Should be written on the lamp (bulb)
@indoorontario,
Then it is what it is eh? You’ll do fine.
Unlike LEDs, which can be mixed to include 2700 & 6000K, MH is a single fixed temp. 6000 perfect for veg, and 2700 for flower. If it’s 4500-5000 it’s kind of no man’s land, as it will neither veg nor flower at its best. If you’re not happy with your yield consider addressing the color temps in future. Best wishes for a good harvest!
@growdoctordc, can't find the Kelvin anywhere on the box, but it's your typical Amazon vivosun special 400 watt metal halide. I've done a little digging and found that they can produce flowers, but I just might get a reduced yield. I guess we're all going to find out together.
Lovely looking canopy man ! These tops are going to produce you great flowers !! Im excited to see these ladies all decked out in rezin covered flowers ! Looking forward to the many updates to come !
Happy Growing!

@indoorontario, The plant won't slow its stretch because of a light , plants stretch the amount they are going to stretch and that's that lol its part of nature .How ever using MH duing the stretching phase will help your plant get bigger .
@The_Projexx, thanks for your input. I will be using both types of bulbs and switching sometime around when the buds start forming. Like both @cbalderson60 and @greenmachine stated will help slow some of the stretching. I'm still in shock about how much they have grown already.
Good shit man....what size filter and exhaust fan u runnin? #1 and only worry for me was the smell, now u got me worried again lol im runnin vivosun 6" intake, exhaust, and filter...but only 3×2×5 tent, also, exhaust runs into external filter.
