Uneventful week. Managed to get some more distance between the light and the flowers thanks to the twine and taut-line hitch. Cleaned out some dead leaves. Starting to consider trimming many more leaves but my intention remains to be neutral with this plant to see how the strain does without intervention. Setting a baseline. Overall she smells good and looks good. Day 82: Added 3.5 gallons of water 6.0pH. 1016ppm 2161µs/cm = 2.161ec 23.30°C = 73.7°F solution temperature Day 85: All is well. Thirsty plant says it will want more water tomorrow. Going through about 4 liters a day is exactly where it should be. I tired to peek at the roots and it is impossible to open the black bucket at this point. I'm so glad I added the second bucket for managing the water. When the water gets low, I pick up the red bucket and drain all the water into the black bucket then turn the shutoff valve. Next I mix my new batch of water in the red bucket, adjust pH, adjust PPM and ec. Then and only then do I open the valve and let the water flow into the black bucket. Since the buckets sit level with one another, I can look into the red bucket and know exactly the water level of the black bucket. The red bucket give me direct access to the water without having to move the plant allowing me to pH and feed without hassle. Day 86: All is well. Still plenty of water in the reservoir. Nothing exciting to note except that the buds are looking healthier in my eye. These next 4 weeks are going to be long. So wanting to harvest. Hmm. Based on https://www.royalqueenseeds.com/blog-indoor-cannabis-growing-relative-humidity-and-temperatures-n243 it looks like I may need to get my humidity down. "3. Flowering Period Humidity levels need to be lowered to 40-50% (extremely important) You can get away with 55% (anything over 60% is real bad) It’s best to slightly lower temperatures in flowering Temperatures with lights on: 20-26 C° (avoid high temperatures)" My guage in the pictures is off by 4%. The real number is what you see plus 4%. Looks like we are hanging out in the 60%s.

Grow Questions

I have 3 leaf problems. Look at the Day 26 pictures. The leaf closest to the fan has two tones. A closeup on day 25. The tip of one is yellow. Furthest from the fan, a leave has brown spots (I'm thinking a water drop caused a burn). Thoughts? Also, how do I raise the humidity?

well well . ok you are sure about your solution tmperature on 21 degree, if yes its good. the ph in dwc should be between 5.5 and 6.5---- fluctuations in that range are ok . But your ph was much higher. and so the leaves of your plant look like. PH issues. and as you mentioned the ec was to high too. To get rid of heat, just helps a bigger tent. Those new led are very strong ( and hot) i have a similar one and i ended in gettign abiggr Tent, now my temperatures are stable on 27 degree. You may get another nutrients that are working bettr with your dwc. But alltogether , your girl dont look too bad. You know whats going wrong / keep ph in the good range, dont oerfeed/ keep the solution coll/ maybe get a bigger tent/ other nutrients. You got to eleminate the reasons for that. its the only thing that helps. Iam sure with a bigger tent, your solution is cooler and everything works bettr.

If this were your plant, what would you be doing to it right now? Leaving it alone? Trimming fan leaves? Are those brown spots a concern (they are only on a few leaves)?

Nice grow. I'm seeing a calcium/magnesium deficiency caused by light burn. I would back your lights off a lot 6 inches is too close. This looks like an older issue are these leaves on the lower parts of the plant? I would be more concerned about the newest growth closest to your lights right now. If you look at your photos the leaves are showing signs of stress. The leaf blades are trying to fold up or are canoe shaped they are doing this to conserve moisture. I would go by your light manufacturers recommended light distances If the leaves lay down and stand out straight in a few days I would gradually lower your light a few inches at a time. You can also add some Cal/Mag into your nutrient regime these micro nutrients help your plants deal with light stress better. When those damaged leaves look really bad I would start trimming them off especially if they are on the lower 1/3 of the plant. Hope this helps brother.👍

Starting what should be the last 4 weeks of hydro. The plant looks extremely healthy to me. I'm working the humidity down as it is a little high. Any words of wisdom for the home stretch?

I would defoliate a little to expose more budsites to direct light. Drop that humidity to 50% and the last 2 weeks of flower go to 40% boost in trichome production. Lower nutrient levels after week 6-7. Flush with pH water 5 days before harvest. And day of harvest chop before lights come on and starches etc. Make it up the branches to buds.

If the seed supplier says "flower 9 weeks" and everything I read suggests 60 days in flower, are they referring to 60-63 days past switching to 12/12 lighting or are they suggesting 60-63 days beyond the first visible bud, or hairs, or what? IC a mix of amber, cloud, and clear.

they are refering to after the switch to 12/12 ... keep an eye on your trichomes though, that's really the only way to tell if you're ready or not. Hope this helps ! 🚀

@OutForReal, Thanks. The daytime/nighttime temperatures may just be me reporting them wrongly. I am running my lights at night (heat) and have them off during the day. I suppose that means my nighttime is the plant's daytime. The temperature split is about 70°F to 81°F. The four weeks is wrong. I had my light timer messed up for about two weeks that I recorded as flowering I suspect I was still vegging which could explain why my plant is outgrowing the tent. So really this is probably week two of flowering and I am hoping to see better progress.

On day 26 I started using natural light for the photographs. I thought taking pictures under the HLG quantum board would be fine since it is not a blurple but it was washing the color out.

@burnerac, You don't have to go wild with it. You can stick to the lower areas then slowly over a few weeks thin out the upper canopy a little. You can also just do some leaf tucking if you prefer on the upper canopy. You can always try some more extensive defoliating on your next grow. Usually its most beneficial to do this during the first few weeks of bloom. The most important reasons is to provide as much light to the bud sites and provide good air circulation around the plant and buds in order to help prevent mold or mildew issues later in bloom.
Philindicus
Philindicuscommented5 years ago
@burnerac, Its your grow so your in charge. It's normal to loose some of the oldest lower fan leaves. The upper canopy is canabilizing nutrients from the lower parts. You can let her grow naturally.Usually starting to defoliate/debudding is more beneficial once your in the first few weeks of bloom. Your actually a little late in doing it. If you prefer you can just stick to leaf tucking/tying in the upper canopy to get more light on the buds. But what you will notice is any of the lower bud sites not receiving ample light will be loose and airy not amounting to a nice dense bud structure. By temoving them your plant will put its energy to building up the buds on the upper branches. I also agree with Mrs_Larimar it would be great if you could lower your ph try to keep it under 6.0 . A lot of hydro growers seem keen on 5.6-5.8 nutrients are absorbed better in that ph range. Since your just past mid bloom increasing your phosphorus and potassium would be benficial the helping bud growth and building up some density over the next few weeks.

@Philindicus, Will do. I was avoiding defoliation because this is my first time with this strain and I wanted to see what it produced with minimal interference from me. The control so to speak so that I can judge future grows against it BUT I think I'd rather have a better harvest and some of those leaves are bugging me. That will be Sunday's project. Thanks.

You still have a few weeks to go at least. You still have mostly white pistils on your buds. I usually start checking the trichome color when about 50+% of the white pistils have dried and turned orange. I would keep feeding her until then. She will put on the most weight during the last 2-3 weeks before harvest. If possible try to get your temperatures under 80 F . Also lower your humidity to avoid issues with mildew or bud rot. 40% to 45% would be better or at least under 50%. If you zip your tent up tightly it can trap moisture so try to leave it open a bit more.

@Philindicus, Thanks. Working on that temperature and humidity. Turned my exhaust fan to max last night. Will probably open the tent vents tonight.

@Mrs_Larimar, I think it went well. I'm pleased with the 7 ounces it produced despite all the documentation suggesting I should have been able to double that. Will be starting another round shortly this time with more intense training.

I would also suggest if your getting serious about growing to invest in a PAR meter it take the guess work out of how intense your light is in different area of your grow space. They aren't cheap but they are worth having around.👌

@Philindicus, Putting a PAR meter on the shopping list. That HLG 288V2 really fills the tent. Love my quantum board!

@Exotic_Seed, I'm quite looking forward to it. Was trying to do a soil beside the hydro but the seed was too far below the soil and I didn't realize it until too late. It died a day after I dug the leaves out.

Looks like she is off to a good start. The key to rockwool is dont let it stay too wet when the seed first sprouts. Once you get about an inch root out of the bottom the risk of suffocating drops a lot. Good luck with it!!

@burnerac,if you use root it cubes ( that brand ) you can germinate easier , I have near on 100% with good seeds , and you can use them in hydro , I found rock wool stays too wet and can rot the stems
burnerac
burneraccommented5 years ago
@BigDaddyK, I failed to germinate in rockwool. Ended up doing a soil grow. This time I was going to do soil and hydro at the same time but didn't realize my seed had germinated too far below the soil. When i dug the leaf out it was too late and it died. I'm attempting to germinate another seed right now to do a soil grow and will probably just let this hydro veg longer so I can flip the soil and the hydro at the same time....if that seed germinates this weekend otherwise I'm just doing the one hydro plant.
