This is the second time trying out Black Jack from Sweet Seeds, first time making an online journal. This is a favorite strain, if not arguably THE favorite strain. The only criticism I have for the strain, is that I feel like when the high comes down, I get tired. I don't have any scientific evidence on this, but I contribute it to the "terpinolene". Helps give some great focus, but the relaxing properties are a smack in the face once that focus starts to fade. I'm still learning how to LST more effectively, I hope that I can do a much better job this time around to maximize the yield. The set up may seem like a lot for one plant in a small pot, but this is to have room for more lights and pots at a later time. Or a single larger pot with more lights for a bigger single grow. I need to learn this environment first, originally it was a two wardrobe boxes stacked on top lined with mylar using a box fan for exhaust.

Light - 75W Rapid LED with a CREE CXB3590 COB
Fans - AC Infinity CLOUDLINE S4 for exhaust, 2 Holmes 6" clip fans, one is towards the top shooting down, one is towards the lower-middle for circulation
Pot - #3 black resin thermoformed pot with an actual capacity of 2.6 gallons
Medium - Fox Farm Ocean Forest mixed with more perlite
Day "Zer0" - You can see the neck before it busted through. Not the official start of week 1, but I wanted to add this.
Day 1 - 1 inch tall. 36 inches from the light.
Day 2 - 2 inches tall. 35 inches from the light.
Day 3 - 2.75 inches tall. 34.25 inches from the light.
Day 4 - 3 inches tall. 34 inches from the light. Approximately one half gallon of water was ran through the soil today. No nutrients of any kind.
Day 5 - 3.25 inches tall. I would say that I'm not worried about this seedling stretching too much. It hasn't shown need of additional support. It's easier to see that it is feeling the airflow from the fans in the tent. I'll have much better airflow than my last grow so I'm hoping to see positive gains in the branch thickness with the constant movement.
Day 6 - Same height, more body.
Day 7 - The week ends with the noticeable encroachment of white fuzz mold in the soil and on the jiffy pellet. I went back and looked at the previous days photos and it was noticeable on the pellet, but I didn't look hard enough. I have done two things to try and address this and not sack the grow. 1, I have done a light misting of white wine vinegar and water (1tbsp/1gal mix ratio, not spray amount). 2, I lowered one of the clip fans to blow across the top of the soil. I am not clearly getting the air flow I need in this tent. It's always fun to learn a new environment. I'll consider an intake fan at some point to lower temperature also, but I have to figure out how to make that work since I have to place the tent next to an external wall. I'll retreat each day for three days and see what happens. If the mold hasn't gone, and the soil hasn't dried out enough, I'll consider sacking the grow and starting over and figure out the intake situation then.
I'll keep the set up information going from week to week to hopefully reduce any questions about what is being used, and prevent people from having to scroll through the comments of every week to find what they may want to know.

Day 8 - Things appear to be going well with removing the mold from the environment. Today was the second day of treatment with the white vinegar water mixture. The first day showed great results, I still saw some trace amounts lingering. Reapplied for a second day, and will have one more to go. Only after the three day treatment will more extreme measures be taken if nothing improves. I've added the extra fan for more airflow in and around the environment, hoping to increase the drying time of the soil and prevent a future mold issue. Time will be my judge.
Day 9 - I removed some soil from around the jiffy pot that had the constricted remnants of the mold problem. Even if the vinegar destroyed it, I don't want it hanging around unnecessarily. So I removed the pieces I could see. I also opened the jiffy pellet webbing up some before the 3rd and final (fingers crossed) application of vinegar and water. I'm also trying to hold out on letting the soil dry to almost 2 inches in depth before watering again. I still think this heatwave is what is causing problems, even if this is a new environment, the soil and plant aren't reacting the same as they did in the mylar lined cardboard box with similar conditions.
Day 10 - I don't see anymore signs of mold in or on the soil. I felt down, and I have between 1 and 1.5 inches of dry soil outside the fan leaves. I'm going to wait until tomorrow to give it more water as the soil should be ready by then for the next stage of watering. I don't want to give the mold anything to work with. Temps did better today, probably because of the A/C adjustment to compensate for the 105+ temperature outside.
Day 11 - Today the plant received some water, .25 gallons to be precise. I added some silica, cal-mag, and Mammoth P. Piece of advice on the Mammoth, don't buy that unless you know you really want to try it or have used it. Only reason I say that is the cost. Yes, you should look it up before buying it, but if you didn't, you may be shocked by the price depending on where you got it from. So just do your research. The 4th node is being pushed out now. Once we are on #5, or shortly there after, the LST training will begin.
Day 12 - The tips of node 5 are visible while node 4 is still pushing. Should be ready for LST by the middle of week three at the latest.
Day 13 - We have the first height update for this week. 4.5 inches tall and some leaves that are filling out nicely so far. I like what I'm seeing, and have no complaints, other than my mold issue in/on the soil. I'm still confident that is due to external environmental temperatures beyond my control without making the power bill unnecessarily high.
Day 14 - We have a good finish for week 2. 5th node is working it's way out. Laterals are forming nicely. Stalk is starting to harden and take shape. One of the most interesting things I noticed this week, was the twist in the stalk. If our previous grows did that, I can honestly say I failed at paying attention.
I'll keep the set up information going from week to week to hopefully reduce any questions about what is being used, and prevent people from having to scroll through the comments of every week to find what they may want to know.

Day 15 - So I'm now in week 3 of veg. The 5th node has most of its leaves showing as the 6th node is starting its own push. I'm curious as to which way people think I should pull the plant down to begin LST training. Is there a difference in how the plant will respond to the 4 different options? Please leave a comment on which way you think I should do the first bend of the LST training, #1, #2, #3, or #4. The plant also received some water today, 32 ounces, same nutrient ratios. The second feeding of the week will have the first round of veg nutrients from Fox Farm.
Day 16 - I couldn't wait everyone, I made a decision. The plant has begun LST training with a near 90 degree bend coming off the 2nd node site. I just couldn't wait. With the growth I'm seeing, I don't see any reason to wait more. I'm going to guess around 10 cola sites by the time we hit flower. **Update before day 16 ends, the plant already realigned itself from the first LST session, which is good. I'm going to be working her almost every day until those lowers catch up or get close enough for me. 😀
Day 17 - The plant is responding well to LST so far. Going to have to nice bumpy slide action on the stalk as she grows out. It's to early to say what will happen, but I'm hoping the lowest laterals will push up.
Day 18 - Every day is a training day, got to get her in fighting shape while there is still time. I have one branch that I hope swings out to start shooting up, and one of the lowest laterals I'm hoping will start to perk up. I had to tie down one of the fan leaves that was blocking the lowest sites, I couldn't get it to tuck out of the way. Everything looks good though unless I'm missing something.
Day 19 - She is responding well to the LST training. As @El_Jeffe pointed out, she is fighting the training, with good results so far. There are two branches that I am curious to see what they do. I've also started to twist her slightly with each adjustment and tie down. I'm trying to avoid any down facing branches that will have to spend time and energy to swing themselves out and in to position. The stalk is getting thicker each day and handling everything I've thrown at it so far. First feeding of veg nutrients was done today also.
Day 20 - She is doing much better than anticipated. She is almost at a point where I will be able to start giving her more shape and try to round her out. I just need some of these branches to get longer to create the necessary room. Should be a non issue though at this rate. I forgot I had some stakes, so I busted those out as I think they will be "gentler" on the skin in terms of abrasion scars. The plant ties scrape away at skin as the plant grows. Is it a huge amount of damage to the pant, no, but if I can take a less damaging approach I will. And stake management is sometimes easier than plant ties.
Day 21 - We have reached the end of week three. Things have progressed nicely, A fair amount of tops are showing themselves. I've begun trying to pull the branches that are long enough towards the opposite side of the stalk base. I want to create as much room as possible and fill out the whole area. I'm also starting to pull the top around the edge to help with the directional growth. I've ditched all the plant ties except the one that went behind the stalk to support the initial bend. Right now it's plant stakes doing the heavy lifting, or weighing down I guess, since they are heavier than the plastic plant ties. I'll be continuing the training into flowering, and probably through the first week of flower until the branches start to provide stiff resistance to moving.
'll keep the set up information going from week to week to hopefully reduce any questions about what is being used, and prevent people from having to scroll through the comments of every week to find what they may want to know.

Day 22 - The first day of week 4. 😳😮😱😣😤😔😶👉👍 That's the first day of the week, in emoji form. I had a branch snap, and I didn't notice it until right now when I took the photos. I don't know how long it has been like that, it started to dry at the break so I don't know if it will be able to fuse back together, even with the tape. If it does fuse back together, I have no idea how big it will be able to get. I'm going to give it a day, maybe two, if I don't see any good recovery signs, I'll have to sack that branch to avoid any unneeded nutrient to a less than optimal site. I'll keep week four at Veg because she is not done stretching and I have time to still train her some more before it's too late.
Day 23 - Today is a small update day. I gave the plant some PH balanced water, no nutrients, they will be on the next feeding in a couple days. I also removed that branch that was damaged, the flower site was also damaged, I had something fall towards the plant, and I couldn't tell where the impact was, now I know. It's okay as this will allow the "right" side of the plant to be more open to light and have more room to train those branches away.
Day 24 - Things are looking good still. Not even concerned about that one broken branch. I'm getting so many tops that it won't matter as long as things move in the right direction. Training is starting to get difficult with the tucking of leaves. I want to avoid and defoliation for as long as I can so there are enough fan leaves for the plant to feed off of if needed.
Day 25 - I'm trying to really open her up and get as much tops pushing out as I can. I've tried showing my approach to LST on one specific area of the plant. I feel like most people do show their LST techniques tuck by tuck. I don't mean we need to do the whole plant. I am used to seeing here it is before, and now bam, look at how great of a job I did, go do it. If anyone sees this and has questions about what I'm doing, please let me know and I'll do my best to answer them. I just want to provide nice information for everyone about what is going on. I'm on track to hitting more than 10 tops, but we will see in the end.
Day 26 - One side of the plant is stretching out nicely to where I might be able to get a couple more small flowering sites pop up. The other side is just try to grow up and not so much out. It's cool though, I'm still getting some nice development. That main cola site is getting really crowded. I'll have to make sure I keep a nice amount of airflow in that area depending on how things stack and spread. Nutrients coming in tomorrow.
Day 27 - Almost done with week 4 and the end of veg. I can't wait to see her start to grow up from here. The LST will start slowing down soon. She was given some nutrient water today before the week ended. I did my first defoliation today,..1 leaf. And that was because I was worried it was going to sit in the soil, that's the only reason, otherwise no defoliation yet.
Day 28 - We ended the week on a strong note. Fresh nutrient water to feed on, the last full veg feeding, next week will have a "half-and-half" with full Veg and half Flower nutrients. I left her stretching on viewer's left. I did not get the stretch I was hoping for on viewer's right. It's all good though, those were the "tucked" nodes that had to grow out which ate up some time to stretch out. More sites are starting to get pistils so I will say this is the official end of Veg. I liked where we got in 4 weeks, and look forward to the next 4 or 5.
I'll keep the set up information going from week to week to hopefully reduce any questions about what is being used, and prevent people from having to scroll through the comments of every week to find what they may want to know.

Day 29 - Week 5 is upon us and we are now in the flowering stages. I did some more bdsm training as @El_Jeffe pointed out. I think that this will be my last day of LST and just let her grow up to the light. Does anyone want to give their thoughts? LST vs LiG (Let it Grow). Let me know in the comments. The main cola is stacking up, so and I have no more room to pull her around. That is why I'm like hmm...😐
Day 30 - So I made a decision on the training and that is to more or less stop any "aggressive" LST training and to just let her start to grow up. For some reason I forgot to lower the light yesterday, the light has been lowered, 24 inches above the canopy for now.
Day 31 - There was some slight LST done today, mostly just tucking to expose the slower sites. I haven't had to do any defoliation yet other than that one leaf. I gave her some nutrients today, a combination of Veg and Flower nutrients to help with the transition and get any of the last Veg nutrients it might still be pulling up as this is the first true week of Flower. Light is still at 24 inches. I'm going to let the plant grow to 18 inches from the light before I adjust again.
Day 32 - Today is a big photo update day, not particular reason other than I thought I had some things I wanted to share. I like the shape I'm seeing and the number of tops I was able to generate. This will be a good test of what this new light can do. While not my fist grow using this light, it will be my first grow where this was the only light used for the whole cycle. There has been a lot of growing going on all over the plant. The more I got light down in the canopy the more sites appeared trying to play catch up. As stated before, I'm trying to do little to no defoliation and really see what I get with this light and set up. I know that I could increase theoretical yields by defoliating, but I want a base line to compare for later. I also need to consider if I can do anything different with my LST training. I counted 5 "missed opportunities under the main cola for independent tops. They should still have nice yields based on their obstructed growth. I just wonder how I could have gotten them more exposure with the rotation and space available. Right now the easiest idea I have is rectangle pot and grow her out like a long table. Creating two rows of grow sites. Unpaid product plug, but if you want a good quality all white full spectrum LED grow light, using arguably the best "horticulture targeted" cob LED light, the RapidLED 75W Cree CXB3590 grow light is a solid choice. It's priced nicely between the 54W and 100W Optic 1 and uses the same components, sans the lens. The RapidLED uses a reflector instead of a glass lens. It's not heavily advertised on the various blogs/websites covering the world of cannabis.
Day 33 - We aren't done stretching yet so I was able to get some more training time in to separate some of those branches a little more. I've also adjusted the 8" fan to be off the plant some. I think it was causing some damage and stress to the various leaves. I'll try to also us more of the pot next time if I can get the right kind of lateral growing I would need for an effective spiral. The one side did not want to grow out fast enough to manipulate as easily as I would have liked. I'm still pleased though, but I want to make sure I can see the room for improvement to get better and better.
Day 34 - The stretching is going well, I haven't seen any downsides to the half Veg half Flower nutrient mix.
Day 35 - Week 5 comes to an end today. We have had some nice growth and development during our first week of flower. Saw some nice stretching across the board so I'm pleased heading in to week two of flower. Today she was watered again, this time with a flush as this was the third week of giving her nutrients. Depending on how long she takes it will determine when I flush again. The breeder says this is a 9 week strain. I've seen journals going from 8 weeks to 10 weeks as the low and high average. So if I go long, the next flush won't be until week 8, short, week 7. I've also noticed the plant has done a lot better since turning that 8" fan away. It may have liked the air flow, but the leaves hated it. Week 6, here we come.
I'll keep the set up information going from week to week to hopefully reduce any questions about what is being used, and prevent people from having to scroll through the comments of every week to find what they may want to know.

Day 36 - So all the ties and stakes have been removed as of today. There was some slight LST training on several of the branches after the photos were taken and all the ties were removed. I can still shape the upper region of the branches to help give more light below. I am still so impressed with what I'm seeing off of this light. After releasing the ties it became two inches taller and is going to be at the light barrier soon where I'll have to lift it. I'm thinking between 20 and 24 inches tall when all said and done. I could be way off, the branches still have to prepare for the weight they will be holding.
Day 37 - No major updates
Day 38 - This weeks nutrients were given today. The plant appears to be slowing down/done on the stretch. No big changes from the last few days that I've measured. We will see what happens by weeks end.
Day 39/40 - No big updates to report on these two days. You can see the trichomes coming in on the top. I'm waiting for my sinuses to clear up to hopefully smell soon, I imagine she's almost at that point to start generating a smell.
Day 41 - I like the spacing I'm getting on the main top, and I'm really surprised at some of the laterals on where they are settling. The tiniest one that was hidden below the broken branch has really pushed itself out to say hey, I'm here. Even if it produces just one flower, it rose up to try and shine. The lateral that was tied with the main cola for the longest is falling behind and one of the front lower laterals is trying to take over as number two. I like the spacing on the main stalk as well, I think it will fill out well. I'll try to post a side by side comparison of the start of the week to the end of the main cola for size comparison for this week.
Day 42 - The week ends on a positive note like the other weeks. She is growing nicely and still stretching slightly while putting on the weight. I have a couple laterals that are behind on flowering but it won't impact the end result. I'm very pleased so far. At this rate though, I don't see her being an 8 week grow. I'm going to say 9, maybe 10.
I'll keep the setup information going from week to week to hopefully reduce any questions about what is being used, and prevent people from having to scroll through the comments of every week to find what they may want to know.

Day 43 - Week 7 everyone. Can't stop, won't stop, still getting some stretch on three branches for sure while other branches pack the weight. As @KCChiefers pointed out, my overall shape turned out well for the training. Thank you for pointing out that my ego was getting in my way of appreciating what has been achieved.
Day 44 - @El_Jeffe suggested that I pull her branches down to open her up and let light down to the lower flowering sites, and I did. I would say that was a good call to make and I'm happy I followed through, thank you @El_Jeffe 👍. I also decided to defoliate after saying I wasn't going to. I just had so many fans leaves on top of each other I felt like I was preventing useful airflow to the bottom of the plant and the lower flower sites. When I opened her up, I was like wow look at all that light getting down, then I was like look at all those sites that are being blocked 😳! So the clippers came out and she was cleaned up. I only removed any fan leaves that were on the inside of the plant and if I felt they were blocking light from reaching the bottom flowering sites. I did not remove the perimeter fan leaves or the uppermost fan leaves. Removing the exterior fan leaves have no real benefit as they don't block anything, and you are removing nutrients for the final flush that the plant can draw on. You also don't need to remove the topmost fan leaves as they won't be blocking much depending on their height compared to other tops and how full they are.
Day 45 - Not much to say other than she is getting frosty! The only areas that aren't showing nice amounts of trichome development are the areas that are late to flower, mostly those last three branches I mentioned before. Opening her up was worth it and I'm super excited about the finished product, can't wait.
Day 46 - The only thing I have to report is things are still going well.
Day 47 - I can really see the difference in the stages of growth now, which is kind of nice. It's giving me time to compare the differences in the stalks, flowers, fan leaves, sugar leaves, and other aspects of the plant through its development. Some of the pistils have started changing, but there is still a huge amount of white pistils. One of the smallest details I like about this is the two flower sites that are side by side almost, the "twin tops". Most other sites have staggered enough to say they are different, these two are almost side by side.
Day 48 - I probably should have spotted this sooner, but there was a calcium deficiency issue noticed today. So to fix it she was given an additional 12ml of Cal-Mag in some water. She was due for a plain watering but the calcium issue needed to be addressed right away. I don't want all the hard work to fizzle because the flower sites can't develop properly. I'll probably be giving her close to 20ml of Cal-Mag a week going forward. 10ml in the nutrient feed and 10ml in the straight water feed.
Day 49 - Week 7 is done and today the smell is starting to come through. I open the tent and it's like hello 😃. This means the carbon filter is working, so I give a 👍 to the product for working so far. She will be getting another week's worth of nutrients and another flush next week. This is going be a good grow, bar any major problems going forward.
I'll keep the setup information going from week to week to hopefully reduce any questions about what is being used, and prevent people from having to scroll through the comments of every week to find what they may want to know.

Day 50 - Week 8 is here and the plant is in full swing. The smell is increasing each day, flowering sites are ripening all over, even the lower ones are trying to ripen. One of the most pleasant aspects of the grow so far has been that the two lowest branches are going to try and outgrow the main stalk vertically even if they don't have the same amount of weight. I've started doing minor tucking here and there again. Some of the bottom foliage has started falling off the last few days, about 3 or 4 leaves so far. Not surprising at this stage of development. Once "all" the hairs are orange we'll bust out the electronic microscope and see where we are at. Going to push for "max" THC with about maybe 5% amber if I can time the flush properly.
Day 51 - Today was a nutrient feed. Next watering this week will be some Sledgehammer to flush the plant since it has gone 4 weeks.
Day 52 - The smell is getting stronger, I love it. I'm a little shocked the two lowest branches became the two tallest. I raised the light up some more because of that growth. I had just hit 16" clearance on the tallest branch. I've given it an inch because I don't have much room left and want to have some room for the plant and light to breathe if possible.
Day 53 - Some minor defoliation was done on some of the fan leaves that were blocking some of the flowers or just smashing themselves into the sugar leaves. It really allowed for more light. I'll show you a birds-eye tomorrow.
Day 54 - She received her second flush today. Trying to prevent any nutrient lockout or excessive salt buildup. I wonder if she will get any purple in her.
Day 55 - Nothing much to report today either really. The laterls that are taking the vertical lead are starting to stack.
Day 56 - Weight gains, I'm seeing some weight gains all the way around. I'm not going to guess how many more weeks I'll have but I'll weight as long as she keeps putting on the weight. I've almost reached the max height of the tent for the light. If I do I'll just hope it is far enough away to finish safely.

Day 57 - Week 9 is upon us and today was a new nutrient feed with everything I can throw at her. She is doing well and looking good. All the flower sites are fattening up and those late bloomers are taking shape also. Be done already, I want to enjoy you. It'll be worth the wait though.
Day 58 - I feel like I still haven't gotten my calcium issue under control. My next watering will be done with un-filtered water and some cal-mag added. If the issue stops or slows significantly after the next few waterings, I'll think I have found a culprit. I won't know for some days though.
Day 59 - Still nothing new to report, just more frost buildup and fattening.
Day 60 - She was watered today with some unfiltered water, tiny cal-mag, and PHed in range. I'll see if this can fix the problem. I'm so close to the end and this problem isn't going away. I have no way to determine how much it may be impacting my bud development, but any negative should be avoided or mitigated as much as possible.
Day 61/62 - Nothing new to report.
Day 63 - Week 9 is over, still not ready for chopping. Maybe we will be ready by the end of next week. The pistils haven't turned orange enough to start taking clippings for the electronic microscope. I'll try to remember to post some pics of that when it happens.
I've started also taking note of all my problems to be better prepared for the next plant that I grow:
• Check nutrient levels against a ppm to minimize the amount of nutrient burn the plant is subjected to and allow for better nutrient uptake.
• Pay attention to which way fans are pointed to avoid windburn.
• Start LST training sooner in the node development.
• Defoliate more of the lower stuff to focus the energy upward.
I'll keep the setup information going from week to week to hopefully reduce any questions about what is being used, and prevent people from having to scroll through the comments of every week to find what they may want to know.
Step Up Info:
Tent - 32"x32"x62" VIVOSUN mylar grow tent
Light - 75W Rapid LED with a CREE CXB3590 COB
Fans - AC Infinity CLOUDLINE S4 for exhaust, 2 Holmes 6" clip fans, one is towards the top shooting down, one is towards the lower-middle for circulation, 1 Honeywell 8" TurbroForce Air fan.
Pot - #3 black resin thermoformed pot with an actual capacity of 2.6 gallons
Medium - Fox Farm Ocean Forest mixed with more perlite
Day 64 - Week 10 is here and I think the plant wants to start finishing up. The other two tall sites are starting to put some orange into their pisitls. I've also noticed that more leaf growth is developing fully but showing more yellow in them. Bye-bye nitrogen 👋.
I wanted to have some fun so I took some underside shots. I found a lone pistil set. This light is really getting down in here to try and still promote growth. I'll definitely need to invest in another one at some point. Then I can maximize my PAR efficiency for the tent and try to go grow some big plants.
Day 65 - Nothing new. Other than still getting heavier.
Day 66 - The frost output is picking up across the board. I'll probably start examing under the microscope at the end of the week and see where we are at. I've already started flushing her with plain PH water. When she is done I want to be able to chop as soon as it works for my schedule.
Days 67 to 69 - Nothing exciting to report.
Day 70 - Week 10 is done. Trichome production is ramping up still. I'm seeing more frost consistently forming on all sites. The topmost flowers are all swelling and trying to put on as much width as height.
I'll keep the setup information going from week to week to hopefully reduce any questions about what is being used, and prevent people from having to scroll through the comments of every week to find what they may want to know.

Day 71 to 73 - Week 11 is here and we haven't harvested yet. The trichomes are mostly frosty. We could harvest now, but we aren't shooting for max THC. Going to wait for around 20% amber. Trichomes will be checked again soon just to see progress.
Day 74 - Halfway through the 11th week and I did some minor defoliation on the fan leaves that were congested in the middle and lower section of the plant. I also pulled her down a little more on some of the branches. Trying to get as much light to the bottom as possible to have the biggest yield possible. I won't leave as much lower growth next time, but I wanted to see what this light could do. Some purple is trying to creep in through the trichomes. I'll try to get a close up picture soon. The "top of the main" shows the subtle transition the best I think. I'm also seeing the lower leaves being drained of nutrients more and more. So harvest is not too far off.
Day 75 - Trichome check day. Status: still frosty.
Day 76 - This has gone on longer than anticipated, but that's okay. The plant is getting fatter each day on each site and pumping out more delicious trichomes. Smell is definitely noticeable as soon as the tent is opened up. Kind of piney. I'll try to remember to take a photo of the fade that is going on with the fan leaves.
Week 12, I'm not going to lie. This was a rough week so the updates are not really going to be here for this week. This was the plant's last week of life. She has been chopped and I am waiting until she is done drying to weigh her and get all that information. So the plant went 84 days from sprout to be chopped. She faded out and upped her trichome production across the board. Long than the projections from the breeder, but to be honest I haven't had one auto yet be ready when the breeder said it should be. I'm just happy this grow is coming to a close. I'm looking foward to putting what I have learned in to the next grow and improve.
This strain is one of our favorite strains. We have grown this strain, from this breeder two times now, and overall they have done well for the work that was put into them. I will say that this plant needs to be trained until the 6th-week minimum if not longer. She will have a lot of branches if well trained. There was nice frost development towards the end and I enjoyed how some of the trichomes turned purple. I'll come back and edit this once the curing process has finalized.
The total harvest was less than I had originally hoped for, however, I'm okay with that. I learned a lot during this grow. First time growing with this setup. I had a lot of unknown variables that I was able to examine how to make the next run better. I will say that I don't think I started the LST soon enough, and I didn't offset the plant enough to account for the light source to encourage specific branches to want to grow more. I also went heavier on the nutrients than I should have and saw the effects of burn and/or lockout. I also had some early windburn from one of the fans that didn't help with growth and development either. The plant is too soon into the drying/curing phase to give a complete update. I'll come back and finish it all up then.
I mean obviously the plant is loving that light! 👏 I'm really liking it and have been thinking about purchasing one or a couple lol. Do they draw an actual 75 watts from the wall? My blurple pulls 220 with both switches but I just feel like Cree and Samsung diodes are the way to go, I mean look at your plant growth! With nearly a third of the power I'm pulling. A buddy of mine has some hlg and the one thing I wish I would have done is get white lights from the bat. But I was too eager to start my journey haha. Since they're plug and play just buy one at a time and add them as I go? How well do they warm your tent? My blurple will in total raise temp 5-6* degrees F. Just curious about switching!
@KCChiefers, one thing I would suggest is to open the light and see if you can invert the fans for the heatsinks. Right now your light is probably pulling air in the top and shooting it down on to the heatsink and out the sides. While this is the way the light is designed it doesn't necessarily have to be that way. You should be able to invert them to pull air in the sides across the heat sinks and exhaust the heat out the top instead which is a more natural direction for the air to flow based on temperature. Some people will say that it is not necessary and doesn't help or improve, and sometimes it doesn't. I would run a temperature test if you can with the fans oriented both ways and see if you have an improvement in temperature below the light. I also suggest daisy chaining but make sure your tent can maintain good temperatures with adequate air exchange.
@GanjaFarmerGrow, thank you for stopping by and leaving some kind words. Good luck to you as well with your grow, I'll make sure to follow and see what we each do that works for us and see if I see any techniques I may want to try.
Damn! She's really put on some weight. You know what they say if she ain't 280 she ain't a lady! I've been gone a week and I can tell she's stacked more on her! Curious to see what you'll get!
@NeedsMoreFans, to be honest man it put me to bed so I haven't really tested it too much. I was up for about an hour afterwards and was still going strong!
@KCChiefers, hey man, good luck on the interview. 15 minutes beats an hour any day. You are almost done! That's good to hear. The journey can feel long sometimes.
Perpetual grows can be a pain in the butt. You don't necessarily need more than one light, but to better understand how to manage your light for each plant given its stage. Sounds like you are doing that though so no more worries. But I would still suggest perpetual with only two-three plants at a time until you feel more comfortable. And not because you can't keep up with it, but you will have to balance your life with each plant's light and nutrient needs on an individual basis, and with all of them in different stages, it will make for some work when it comes time to water.
We try our plants on trim day, 1 week into the cure, 2 weeks into the cure, and then as needed.
7.5/10 isn't bad. How long did your buzz last you? 1/2 isn't bad at all considering your level of knowledge. Good job on your first grow 👏! It's good that your needs are being met with you what you have accomplished. If anything, you sound more confident and ready to keep growing which is always nice.
All is well man, just trying to get the work-life and home life in better harmony with each other.
@NeedsMoreFans, hopefully interview goes well tomorrow. 15 minute drive to work is so much better lol. Well my ladies are doing great. Saturday they will get the chop. I'm definitely learning about how hard a perpetual grow is. I wasn't even thinking and since I don't have more than one light, I should have adjusted the heights of the Bubblegums I started with risers or something similar. I've got that figured out now... But they probably will more than likely yield a quarter together. If I had the money I'd toss them but waste not want not, am I right? Haha. But I did have curiosity of trying some of the bud that has been curing for a week.
Granted it was the first smoke of the day, but one .5 joint got me where I like to be. Overall like 7.5/10. Earthy/Citrusy more earthy as of now, but I'm sure a longer cure could improve that. At first I thought I messed up, 15 minutes go by and it hits me like an edible would hit ya. Real nice body/heady buzz.
Even though I only received about a 1/2 from her it's so rewarding, as a first time grower, to say I did it lol and that it meets my needs. Now just need to see how much Yellow will bring me! Hope all is well.
She's fighting that lst good job with keeping her under control also good details on the photos of your training technique easy to see and follow will take some of your methods and add it to my style
@El_Jeffe, yes she is fighting, hard. I like it though, I'm seeing good results so far. There are two laterals that I am curious to see how well and if they catch up, I've highlighted them in the photos above. Thank you for the compliment on the photos. I want to show what I'm doing and hopefully provide angles that help people who don't know. I'm not comfortable with making a video yet, so detailed photos for everyone. One thing I'm trying to do now is twist her slightly so there are no down facing branches. No the easiest thing to do, but I'm trying. By all means, take anything I can do that you think will be beneficial to your own endeavors.
@NeedsMoreFans, As with any other strain, use a good substrate, do not water excessively and have all other factors well controlled.😋
Sweet smokes!
-Apolo
@Sweet_Seeds, I definitely enjoy the strain. I just hope to do a much better job on growing it out than the last time. Do you have any suggestions to offer for getting the most out of your genetics on this strain?
Looking smart mate she's a picture of health and your training has turned out great I would say its doubled your potential yeild she's also filling out nicely
@El_Jeffe, she had me worried with that calcium issue, and I'm still worried, but less so. Your suggestion about opening her up really helped a lot. The production turned up and is still turning up. I'm like when are these other branches going to end their stretch?! How many more flower sites am I going to have?
Defoliating in conjunction with opening her up is doing wonders. I'm sure I could have gotten larger flowers on top of each branch had I defoliated more, but I want to keep it to a minimum. If I get some good popcorn off the bottom it will be okay. If it fails to make decent popcorn, I'll defoliate the flower sites that won't be worth much and the leaves on future grows.
Let's finish these plants, man. I can't wait. You have me really wanting to grow my last seed of NL. All 3 of your plants are looking good man.
Ugh. The canopy looks so good. Also love the comparison pic. I may have to do that when i get farther along again. She really put on a nice stretch. And even though you said you weren't as pleased with your LST as you would've liked, I feel like it worked out well as she has bushed out very nicely and uniformly.
@KCChiefers, yes, she does have a nice canopy. I do get what you are saying, she did put on a nice stretch for the training she did receive and is filling out nicely. I think I was just being more critical than I really need to be. I was letting the ego get in the way of what was happening. Thanks for the positive words. Comparison pictures are good to see what you are doing well and how you are improving. Even if you don't post them on here, take more for yourself to see what is and isn't working.
She's filling out nicely good job on the training shame u snapped a branch but she has taken it like a champ hasn't slowed her down one bit
I'd say she's almost the size of my GG has she started to put out any frost yet or smell
@El_Jeffe, thank you for the compliment on the training. It turned out better than I had anticipated in all reality. I think I waited until the right time to release her from her bonds. Yeah, that one branch is a definite non issue at this point with her development.
Have you measured the height of your GG lately for comparison? She is starting trichome development. In terms of smell, my sinuses are jacked right now so I can't tell.
@KCChiefers, thank you. And I agree, I'm also interested to see how we both progress. This will be my 7th grow total, and 1st in a tent. I've had some failures a long the way for one reason or another. I'm looking to make this the best outing. I just need to keep this soil moisture levels in line while dealing with the heat that is outside making the the tent so hot. I've grown in 80-82 degree temperatures before, and had no soil issues, this time though, not so much. It is the 1st time with a tent like I said though, so new environment learning curve.
Looks like an absolutely delicious harvest! Can't wait to see your final results after drying. I swear just reading someone else's journal I feel like they're my own haha. It's been a hell of a journey 👍🔥
@KCChiefers, yes, that is exactly what I'm saying, every strain is different in terms of nutrients needed. I haven't used the Happy Frog soil or mixed them. I've had zero issues with the FFOF so far. I think that the different soil grow would be a good choice to make to see how those genetics respond to the different soil compositions. The FFHF will be less hot than the FFOF, so you may see different reactions on the growth. You also may not see any differences that are noticeable. Unfortunately it's always an experiment until you have done enough to know what does and doesn't work. So I say one FFOF and one FFHF. Learning is always beneficial.
@NeedsMoreFans, so basically every strain is different in terms of nutrients needed is that what you're saying? If so I get what you mean by that. I've got two seeds left of this strain and will be adding two more seeds in to the 4x4 tent here in a few days. I'll post a new journal with them.
Oh and actually my local shop was out of the Ocean Forest last time I went , so I got the big ol' bag of Happy Frog. Which one do you prefer?
The two bubblegum seeds I'm germing in a few days...should I do one in FFOF and one in FFHF to see if it has any difference? The Happy Frog is a little bit cheaper and I get a bigger bag.
@KCChiefers, It really depends on your plants and how they respond to what is available in the soil already. I've never had a plant respond poorly to the FFOF, even with nutrients being added after 7 days from sprouting. But that doesn't mean it will or won't work for you. I would suggest that if you are unsure, only give cal-mag to one of your plants that isn't the runt. You can then do a comparison on how this line of genetics responds to your dosing. If you feel like nothing changed, then you will have some idea on how to proceed with this genetic line for your next round. This also doesn't mean this genetic line would never need cal-mag, but you can start to determine how much it may need compared to other strains when you start to try other genetics.
If you are also worried about how hot the soil is, for you next grow I would suggest a 50/50 of FFOF and FFHF, or just go 100 FFHF. Just know that each run will be different and you are learning how to dial in your touches to specific strains, and that some of what you are learning can be broad spectrum in its application.
Looking good not sure on what direction you should bend her to be honest just go with what you think is right and I'm sure u will be OK or you could try pony tailing her it will force some of the shoots to grow out that might help you decide
@El_Jeffe, I just click on "Edit Week" and update it day by day if I can. I download my pictures each day after loading the site to have them already in order and set up. I've topped before, with different autos, RQS, SS, Barney's Farm, Nirvana, and they haven't freaked out. This time though I wanted to avoid all that. I want push my LST skills harder to do better and figure out what I really like. I think that after I've had more practice and time, I'll do a combo of LST with Pony Tailing (also LST).
@NeedsMoreFans, looking good how do you add pictures to the weeks you have already submitted wasn't aware you could do that also have you considered topping her if you want more colas I would wait until the next set of nodes come in then top her will give u a more Even canopy to manipulate with lst
@El_Jeffe, I made a decision, no pony tails needed. But that wasn't something I was thinking about doing, maybe in the future if I can't decide. Thank you for giving input, also. I'm hoping for 10 cola sites by the time flowering starts, we will see.
Looking smart mate nice structure from the training since you have the room have u thought about opening the tall branches out by that I mean try pulling them as low as they will go to open up the canopy and even it out it will allow more light to your flowers if you do try it go slow a be carefull not to brake any branches
