Hi everyone, well I got excited when i saw the fast buds outdoor competition, i just wrote them a message all like "what strain do you recommend?" and they wrote back every strain i didnt have so that s like green crack cali snow, some other ones, i'm kinda bummed but it's whatever plenty of fastbuds in the fridge so i try to get set up and literally on the day i want to start i get a hat and those strains in the mail so i was like damn thank god i send my address to people on growdiaries lol #safetyfirst My set up is pretty simple i'm using a 5 gal pot branded AZTech Genetics, seems it's non woven and fairly decent quality but what do i know ? 😅 anyway i'm sort of honing in my technique but i ran out of micro nutrients so idk what's gonna happen, let's see what i figure out on the way. that's later on, right now my plants got 15gs of trychoderma, myco and bacilusses mixed into the soil, planted one seed straight drop, didnt sprout, actuvated two more seeds in smart protein solution then planted one and it cracked the surface the same day, covered it and let it sit. Planted random companion plants with the weed this time, i think it's really exciting how you can see all the little sprout coming up at the same time. Let's see how this goes, last year i had spider mites and inchworms 🚀 Day 7 i've watered 1L 3 times this week with 1ml/L smart proteins each time, first watering and all the seeds sprouted, by the second watering i noticed the two other cali snows also popped, now i have three plants in one pot which i need to separate... does anyone want/need an extra seedling or two? hit me up before you drop by to pick them up if you want them ! see how all the companion plants and the cali snows are growing robustly? basically with the bowl on top their making their own atmosphere i'm guessing it hits the high 80s in RH inside there, 80RH 29°C .... when i watered them i intentionally left some on the glass bowl, the smart proteins have optical properties but i dont know what they are yet ha ! on to the next week, peace ! 🚀

Well i found all three seeds sprouted end of last week so i had to take a couple soup spoons and dig out the seedlings. What i found this week is that maybe there's N excess or a hot soil, something to do with the cold or the rain or because of the humidity I'm not sure what's going probably everyything at the same time but bascially i started noticing the cotelydons turning yellow i thought maybe the smart proteins was too strong because i was basically eyeballing it but i'm figuring that it's simple over watering, i've watered three times with smart proteins one tablespoon per 1L . Beyond that i repotted the seedlings with the same amendments in the soil and some of the companion plants from RQS. The cold temperatures at night and the limited light hours during the day are really limiting these little plants. I've stopped watering them but it rained twice this week in addition to my overwatering. THe plants themselves are struggling but surviving , the companion plants have blown up and are doing great ! 🚀

Well i overwatered last week and these are outside so i didnt end up watering at all this week i think there was some light rain two or three times. Beyond that plants are growing well, one of them is overrun with the companion plants actually so that's no good. I asked my buddy @Korfer and he told me to take some out, what do you think? looks crowded but maybe the plants like having friends i dont really know. Any the weather is less that optimal, the plants arent getting watered and i noticed some bugs and pest damage on the leafs already so i'm not expecting much. Had to add a support to one of the plants, the little thing pushed out too many leafs now it cant fully support itself. I tried some leaf tucking with the companion plants but it didnt really work out. so a plastic knife it is... Advice is welcome about the companion plants, if you do have any ! veg is so long isnt it? 🚀

I would take all of them out , why have them taking nutrients and water ? And you risk more mould issues , can I be honest and say it would be quicker and better to start again 👍

This week 10 mll
Watered each with 1ml/200ml once for each plant top of the week. Weather is now sub 16°C in the day time, i'm guessing the seedlings are hibernating for the cold. Mostly it rely on the rain to keep these drinking but i notice when the weather gets cold the plants drink less, anyway seeing their size looks like they really dont need much right now. most of the plants got attacked by some leaf eaters, nothing that major though, one of the plants is showing some burn, but nothing i can do about that... Basically on cruise control and i'm not really taking care of them. Companion plants seem like they're slowing too but less so than the cannabis plants. i pulled on pot marigold because it was just so huge, otherwise it's handsoff basically. Wish these poor plants good good luck - they really do need it ! 🚀

Still not really taking care of these, it rained a few times and the temperature are all over the place with highs of 25 and lows of 5 on some nights, most days are 15C or less . gave one pint with a few drop of smart proteins in it to each plant. the first plant is showing signs of mold on the lowest fan leafs for some days, seems a consequence of the cold. the older plant is all bent and stuff from getting kicked about as a seedling you can kinda tell... Plants seem ok, kinda strange the difference just one week of nice temps does to the growth. Still in veg, but i see some progress on the first plant. The others are kinda locked out for the soil being hot and stunted as it's so cold. Hit me up 🚀

Well it's not getting warmer so it's really no wonder what's happening : water mold, colder temperatures putting the beneficials in hibernation allows the pests to invade and run amok. Younger plants showing signs of root problems and cold stress at this rate these will be ready either at the new years or they'll die young like too many of our South American brothers and sisters - one love stand together ✊

So i did water them at all for the last three weeks or in other words for the last 6 weeks lol. They're doing great growing super well , LST worked out great looks like these are going to be STRONG and BIG YIELDERS. How long do you think i have left? i cant wait lol two of them are showing beautiful fades and fall colors and the first one looks great just starting to fade. I think this grow will be a great success. Maybe next week i'll feed with some PK + more K and like ten different kinds of additives , let's see i want fat flowers. maybe if i do stem splitting it will make it super strong even more than now? seriously i dont know why folks followed this diary but i really appreciated the fun and the advice - learning by growing

@CRiSPrGrow,water them once , completely so it drains out , ‘ run off ‘ you can test this for ph and EC , then lift the pot , feel how heavy it is , everyday liftpot and feel if it’s light , after about a week I notice it

I love companion plants generally. Are those lettuce? Don’t let them shadow your girl, or grow so much she has to compete for root space. And yeah, outdoors in the northern hemisphere this time of year doesn’t work. Check out @grimbolthedruid. He does companions always. I’m partial to rosemary because of the aroma. Mint is a great smell but it takes over root space - not cool
CRiSPrGrow
CRiSPrGrowcommented5 years ago
@GrimbolTheDruid, ah yeah that's what i did see some of here, plant would just start search for light and perhaps a bit of leaf space... meh there's always a next time to improve on the recipe ! 🚀
GrimbolTheDruid
GrimbolTheDruidcommented5 years ago
@growdoctordc, Thanks for the mention man! Yeah I generally looked for things like clover or vetch because they tend to fix nitrogen but eh as long as you Keep them from overshadowing the plants they should be alright. I never could get it right starting a seedling in a big pot. They just take time to straighten out and figure out how to set up shop then they rock it in flower.
CRiSPrGrow
CRiSPrGrowcommented5 years ago
@growdoctordc, i'm hoping that if i'm extra nice to em they'll play ball, but the cold has put pressure on their growth rate , i can tell they're already and basically at a standstill

@rhodes68, so true so true, it's great to see experienced growers show you some new stuff as well , but it's good to be free , learning something new and just experimenting
rhodes68
rhodes68commented5 years ago
@CRiSPrGrow, From what I can see its the new growers that often come up with something good outside the box. It is a fact of the human condition that we replicate success over and over therefore stagnating into "best practices" when something more remains to be found. That said experienced growers that keep a sense of discovery about them find such great ideas :)
CRiSPrGrow
CRiSPrGrowcommented5 years ago
@rhodes68, haha swipe away growmie, truth is i'm a VERY NEW grower, never really done this before, i'm not really counting this as a grow but if i was it would be my 4th ever grow. Take everything here and from me with a pinch of salt. I appreciate the appreciation though, the feeling is actually mutual 🙏 always here to learn especially from folks struggling as much as i am ! 🚀

Looking good! Mine went tall in 2 quick bursts. I tried a heat mat under the prop dome and they burst out of the soil. The humidity was crazy though, 89’s and 90’s. I didn’t want to risk them dropping dead. I’m keeping them open in a Prop tent now with a humidifier set to 70%. It’s working well but I need a dehumidifier in there too to just tweak it. It’s usually 66 to 75%. Lights off is an issue. 😀. Looking forward to following this

CRiSPrGrowcommented5 years ago
@Abitscinny, welcome to the anxiety filled world of VPD ! just one last tip : use a cheap laser thermometer to measure leaf surface temperature it's absolutely necessary if you're paying attention to VPD (which you really should try doing!)
Abitscinny
Abitscinnycommented5 years ago
@CRiSPrGrow,that’s really good to know. I’ve put them back in their dome.’ A bit of structure, that should make things easier. Thank you.!!
CRiSPrGrow
CRiSPrGrowcommented5 years ago
@Abitscinny, hey there growmie love this what you're saying, at this age what i noticed is that seedling is even more hungry for moisture and max temperature is around 27.5 so what i mean is that optimal VPD at the seedling stage is like 75-80RH and 27°C, two week in that goes to 60-70RH and 25C, in flower it drops to 45-55RH and 24C... know what i mean? if not check : https://getpulse.co/blog/vpd hope this helps ! dont let the confident tone fool you though : i'm outdoors on my balcony using kitchen ware lmbo you'll see next update lol , just transplanted : all three seeds ended up germinating ! i need all the luck i can get with the temperature and the weather ...

Hey bro, the companion plant idea is a great one, gotta account for the extra nutes and soil space. The clover is a great idea, but in order to release the nitrogen you have to chop it down, they'll shed roots to maintain the root to shoot ratio and release the rhizobium attached to their roots and hen other organisms need to consume them before the cannabis can get it... Comphrey is the same, great source of calcium but it's a dynamic accumulator and will hoard the calcium as well as others until you either make tea with it, compost it or chop and drop it as mulch.. ECT ECT.. that being said, companion planting is better suited for outdoor grows, and FYI, stinging nettle, Urtica diocia, is know to increase essential oil production in neighboring plants, and also a wicket source of silica when it's added to tea and mulch... Cheers ! Keep it Green!
DWCHC
DWCHCcommented5 years ago
@CRiSPrGrow,perhaps, you'd need to double your soil amount, and yes, start by balancing the ecosystem before adding the plugs, could take several months.. the bonus is, once stasis is attained, it can be reused indefinitely, as long as balance is maintained... Very difficult indoors due to the space requirements.. yields might suffer, but quality would be far superior... I'd only do 2 plants in a 4x4 polyculture.. have to definitely inoculate the media with rhizobium and myc, to break down and transport nutrients.. and tailor the plant choices to be quick to break down... Adding hemp to mulch the cover crop might speed decomposition, but nutrients will be 'locked' up in the bodies of the organisms until they die and release it back into the sol... Very difficult as I said, but with time, patience, and a bit of luck it's totally doable....cheers!

@dwchc, i'll post an update for you lol , but loads of thanks for this 👆 kinda figured as much about half way through, still kinda feeling it out , best would be to build up some kinda top cover then smush it with some (hemp?) straw right? like a few weeks in or maybe start it off first then add your cannabis root plug in there.... i'm just thinking it probably takes weeks if not over a month to decompose correctly right?
