So, new light landed, installed in situ and it has taken me a few days to figure out and adjust my temp/RH control for my grow space. The first thing I decided was to flip the 12/12 light schedule to night, i.e. lights on at 12.00am and lights off at 12 pm. We have suffered a good dose of cold and wet weather lately and the nights have been getting down to 54f. By running the lighting at night it helped to negate the cold drop without supplementary heating. I also reduced the airflow on the extractor fan to help keep some of the heat in the growspace for longer. My dehumidifier kept things at at a peachy 47 - 53 RH as well as being a supplementary source of heat. Growing on a shoestring ๐Ÿ™‚ This did help me discover something that GG4 does not like (despite bending, twisting, topping, etc) and that is cold. Her leaves looked a little sorry for themselves but perked up as the temp rose. The environment is now more stable and I have tweaked lighting routines, dehumifier settings and RH controller settings to keep things a bit more consistent at 79/80f lights on and 68f lights off. That said, I will still be scrutinising and adjusting the Temp/RH/Day/Night environment for several weeks. Nutrient wise, I have not yet started with the bloom/flower supplements and will wait until around the end of week 2 into flower before starting. Gave a good organic nitrogen and Cal/Mag feed and two PH'd water feeds in the week that I flipped to leave a reasonable charge of nitrogen in the soil for the initial stages of flower, when nitrogen is still necessary albeit in reduced amouts to the veg phase. I have stopped the bio-silicon and will adjust my PH range to 6.6 - 6.8, going forward, this is the best range suited for Phosphorus and Potassium uptake. It is worth knowing that Phosphorus in particular, cannot be absorbed as well at PH's under 6.6. Will do a little more LST to even out the canopy and a little defoliation of 'larf' bud sites lower down but I am going to leave the leaves as far as possible, alone. I have always defoliated around the bottom third of my previous plants, however, there is plenty of current thinking from clever folk with PHd's in plant biology that say do not touch those photosynthetic power panels (leaves), so I thought I would give it a try. There are plenty of sages on this forum who would also advise the same. So that is about two thirds through week one of flower, pretty busy few days, though I still need to clean my growspace up following my recent autoflower harvest. The pictures are from shortly after lights on.

Defoliation - fan leaves Yay - to help with RH and focus plants energy on colas Nay - because plants need their leaves to photosynthasise and better to remove larfy bud sites instead A well known Phd in plant biology is firmly in the nay camp What do you think?

Hello Interalia666, your girl is looking great. I get your question, its al about choices you make on how you raise your girl. Indicas or more indica leniant strains love to being defoliated unlike most of the sativas. So your glue would be fine if you did so. Ypi only want to defoliate where is makes sense and adds to a better envirement for your girl. It may be to increase airflow, lower humidity and or get better lighting through your canopy. My advice is do it where its needed and keep in mind that the best time to do it in flower is the 3rd week of flower. In veg you can do it multiple times just not in the week when you put her into flower. Hope this was an helpfull answer. Keep on growing my friend. Peace ๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿพ

Week 1 of flower for photoperiod GG4 which has been mainlined for 16 colas. What are your recomendations for best organic supplements for bloom. I currently use Plant Magic Oldtimer Bloom throughout and Bio Bizz Top Max (later into flower) with a bit of fulvic acid

For bloom, a 1+1 mix of tarantula and piranha from advanced nutrients, recommend the wettable powder as opposed to the pre mixed.. over a billion count per gram on the tarantula, and a great selection of myco in the piranha. I'd mix in dechlorinated water, but not RO, with a touch of powdered egg shells and molasses.. keep at 20 deg C or 70F until strands of visible mycelium are visible in the water. Aeration helps speedup colonization. Add appropriate amounts to your solution... Cheers!

Hi, Iam using the Green BUzz Liquids LIne... filled with benefical stuff. easy to use and effective. But you can go with some more Brands. Plagron ( organic line) or as you mentioned the Biobizz line. Beneficals like MOlasses, calcium, magnesium, HUmic acid, Fluvic acid help the Plant// microbaterias very much

Hello dear friend Cannabis flowering fertilizers are used when plants are in photoperiod 12h / 12h. They are rich in phosphorus and potassium to promote the development of the heads. There are organic, minerals and bio-minerals. ๐ŸŒฑ All are effective if you follow the corresponding dosing instructions, but we have a weakness for these three: Grotek's Solotek Bloom, Atami's Flower-C and BioCanna's BioFlores๐Ÿ‘ Good luck for your grow May the force be with you ๐Ÿ’ช

@Buddha2, it would be nice to grow a 'Humbolt tree' with 4kg but first I would need to pursuade the local law enforcement not to lock me up! For the record, you can see above that when I record the wet/dry weight in ounces, GD does the weight per plant calculation in grams!, when I record the wet/dry weight in grams, GD does the weight per plant calculation in ounces ! Go figure!

@Interalia666, Hi ive answered already but my post is lost anywhere. I absolutey understand and agree what you said to keep it simple. Iwas growing until begin of ths year with only a 23 products ive bought, Azospirillium ( or a growing fertiliser) and a blooming fertiliser. I made alot of stuff diy ( look diary the big gren ones")... then i met the CEO of GreenBuzz Liquis and tsted their Productline. In fact its A growing , a blooming , and a booster nutrient... all the other "bottles" are benefical stuff , through your grow. the schedule is very easy. And you can follw it trustful with photoperiods ( the automatic plants gt less) In every stage you have beneficals that improve your growth. So i " Mutated" from a growr who used nearly to nothing to now using the whole range.....and i can say the plants // harvests changed, Changed massively. I was not bad with my benefica stuff... and iam sure i would still use it if i havent met the Green Buzz Liquids Guy. So iam sure you can create your own nutrients and boosters. Look into "The Weed Mans" Diary he posted alot of reciepes for making your own stuff, same to bossanovas goldcup winning Diary .... ( All those diarys you find in diary of the year) those are very recommendable Mammoth::::::::: you can have that much cheaper.. look for " effektive Microorganismen" those little ones improve the Microbacterial life in the soil..........you can make your own stuff too here and wayyy cheaper. for more infos just get me per PM Look on google for Bokashi Diy... or effective microorganismns

@Mrs_Larimar, Thanks for the support and advice throughout. No, not yet decided on a late flower booster, TBH don't really know what would compliment what I currently use without creating Nute burn from P & K accumulative overload. Lots of choice but wary of just slick marketing BS. I have a KISS (Keep it Simple Stupid) approach to growing so don't want a long complicated list of nutes. I also want to keep it organic. I do like the sound of Mammoth P which is a microbial inoculant that helps to unlock P and micronutrients to maximize bud grow as you know, but is it prohibitively expensive so that's out. Not very well educated as to late flower nute requirments so not sure whther I should be looking at something like an enzyme based supplement to help stimulate the microbiology and concomitantly, nutrient uptake or something that delivers industrial quantities of chelated P & K .................or both!

@JUNGLE_B4RNS, cheers mate, probably could have got to this in 5-6 weeks with a little more effort but is growing alongside autos at the moment so happy to let it veg until the autos are done (about 2-3 weeks now) and then onto flowering.

@Mrs_Larimar, Not to worry, house fine, grow fine (good electrical planning!), plant happy, other than a nitrogen pull from the leaves as we get towards harvest. Thanks for asking though ๐Ÿ‘

Hi @Interalia666! Some plants won't let you no other choice. Bushy plants with big indica-style shaped leaves will create a lot of shades onto lower bud sites and might lead to humidity issues. Defoliation is awesome when done correctly, but it could be a nightmare if done too much or at the wrong time. Before removing a leaf, I always ask myself: is this leaf really blocking the light? For how many nodes / bud sites? How close are the next leaves? How healthy is this leaf? Is humidity an issue, may the buds suffer from the humidity generated by the leaf? You should make your own experiments and see how it goes. Hope this will help, let me know in the comments section if you need any further information, and happy growing! ๐Ÿ‘Š

@Stick, thanks mate and very true, we are all slaves to the genes and this little monster is like Captain Scarlett (you need to be a certain age to get the reference!) I usually do a little light lollipoping just before I flip to flower and then again at about week 2-3 of flower. I used to be in the camp that removed shading leaves, etc but recently I have listened to a lot of Phd plant biologists who are starting to completely change many of the growing conventions that I thought were correct (and have served me well). Will definately run a few experiments next grow (Royal Moby) and get them up on here for the greenthumbs to consider. I have a good supply of 1.5 meter stakes and will be staking this plant extensively when the colas stems start to grow up to keep good seperation, light penetration and help RH. I think this should take care of a lot of the issues alongside getting rid of any minor bud sights or side branching that will not produce quality bud. Will be posting regularly so sing out if you see anything bad/wrong/could do better. Cheers

Athosweek 8
10 growers will give you 10 different answers. I tried it and didnt like it. I only defoliate when there are stacks of leaves right on top of each other that leaves them wet, after all only the one at the top will get any light. I don't defoliate just so light reaches buds, but. Best advice is to try and make your mind about the topic.

@@Athos, it is quite a contentious subject amongst growers as we get more and more Phd science based people involved in the legal production of cannabis, they are quite a revelation when it comes to explaining plant biology and processes at a molecular level. One Phd whose opinion I respect says get rid of nodes not leaves; plants do not store nutrients in leaves, thats not how leaves work; Buds do not need direct light (they grow due to the photsynthic process of the leaves converting light into energy to metabolise), flushing is not needed and quite a few other things which go against the grain of OG growers experience. When he unpicks all the science, it is very hard to argue with him. I will try and post his explantion (I heard it on a podcast) on here. Personally, I flush and do a bit of light lollipoping for the larfy stuff at the end of veg. I do however, have an open mind as there are millions of ways to sucessfully grow these plants and I am always open to new ideas. I have a Royal Moby grow next up so I will go for a comparison defoliating v not defoliating which might be quite intersting to see how they perform?
