So I have been growing Seedsman’s Original Skunk No1 for the past two years which has a very nice Sativa euphoric high, the smell this weed gives off is insane. Having a little half gram bud in your pocket people know when you walk in the room you give off a good radius of skunk roadkill odour it is very pungent and hard to hide. The glass mason jars I cure them in give off the slightest bit of smell even being sealed air tight and opening a jar to grab a few buds the house the entire house would just absolutely stink of potent skunk for about 3-4 hours I could probably just smoke in the house and it would be the same. Had to learn open the jars outside lol the smoke is nice pungent kinda earthy spice and gives off a hard to smoke in public smell. The stone lasts 3-4 hours with a nice energetic talkative high, if you have work that needs done this weed gets it done with a creative touch. Growing it is fairly easy however I always seem to get spider mites near the end for some odd reason could have been the house I previously lived in I’m not sure. Flowering takes 9 weeks or so and most recent plants have been showing some purple in the flowering stage. Beautiful smelly buds and a great high cannot go wrong with this strain.
Awhile back I found smoking Super Lemon Haze to be a fairy equal high with even more energy burst and a great lemon skunk smell so I decided to get some seeds I couldn’t wait. Some of the seeds didn’t open 2 did one turned out weak and another was nice and bushy just the right height and gave off an amazing odour even before flowering and finding out it was a male. It did have a great resistance to spider mites being beside a plant that had them for a couple weeks and I never found a single one on him. I didn’t want my money and time growing the sexy plant to go to waste so I topped it and then flowered it to harvest the pollen. I decided I would love to try my hand at breeding seems my last hobby was breeding African cichlid fish why not a plant.
I harvested the super bushy and stinky male plant and stored the pollen in a nice tight jar with rice and tied bags in the freezer until my female was 3 weeks into flowering and I pollinated just 3 branches of the mother. 6 weeks later during harvest which yielded 107g from one short bushy plant I set aside the 3 branches and started pulling seeds. I got about 200 nice tiger eye seeds and it barely affected my final yield.
I stored the seeds in a bag for a couple months and decided I am going to grow a few at a time through the flowering stage. I am going to clone each plant just before flower and keep the strongest most desirable qualities plants aside and keep them going. I heard creating a strong strain takes years but I at least would like to combine qualities from these two awesome strains and get some great smoke for myself down the road learning and gaining experience along the way.
I have changed my growing medium to canna coco from soil hoping to reduce my risk of spider mites and also read things move along a little faster (they do) lol my Skunk No1 clones seem to be growing much faster and healthier than ever before. The plants will start off under a 300w led then end up under a 600w mars hydro for flowering. I still have a few kinks to work out with environment and humidity due to moving my temps stayed the same but I guess with them being in a bigger room my humidity dropped about 15% and sits around 55 need to best that up a bit.
To germinate the seeds I placed them in water for 12 hours all 3 cracked open. They then went between two container lids in moist paper towel for about 18 hours and I placed it on top of my tent for warmth the root shot out in no time so I carefully placed the seeds into the waiting coco and the broke ground a short while later nice and healthy looking in about 48 hours nice. The first week they got just plain 6.2 water every other day and progressed slowly but steadily.
More updates to come. As you can see the Skunk No1 makes you creative and talkative haha lol
coco is a forgiving medium mate. make an error and it can be instantly flushed away if needs be. I love it as a quick grow throw together too. As long as you keep the ph around 5.8 going in all will be good. It leeches calmag from the plant and nutes so have some handy as your going to hit the most needy bit next. The gnats area pain in the ass but if you cover the surface with decent sand , the larvae get stuck and the adults cant get down to lay eggs. you can also try a 20%milk/80 water in a spray bottle to wet the coco surface and mist the plant with it too. it wont smell or do any damage at all but will kill any soft bodied insects as they breath through a membrane on their backs often and suffocate from the milk deposit. It will go straight through the coco too so no horrible stinky residue
@Ganjagrandaddy, thanks for the advice, yea I’m liking the coco compared to soil I just got the watering down I was still watering like soil up to a few weeks ago. Just waiting on some mesh pots coming today I’m going to try with my clones either way much better with coco.
Yes I been feeding CaMg+ which is organic base for soil but the bottle is almost done I feed usually 4ml per gallon throughout the grow. And will get some CalImagic once this bottle is done.
Adult Gnats I got under control they can’t fly far either to the floor to get squished or on the sticky pads it’s the young ones. I’m going to try the milk idea I recently used 9 parts water to 1 part alcohol and it literally destroyed spider mite population was only a few stragglers left and on another plus side it didn’t kill all my pistils on my flowering plant like insecticidal soap that killed barely any mites just pistils lol. So I totally believe and will try the milk lol thank you.
@Grnhead, thanks bud it’s a fun process found out some cool things along the way. So weird best weed I’ve ever smoked was on vacation in Jamaica called Columbian Gold (some really Skunk bud) and it turns out was one of the parent plants to Skunk No1 small world no wonder I like this particular skunk so much. Can’t wait to see what the lemon adds to it was a smelly one to
