26/12 - Day 64 Cookies and SD going well. NL i think got stressed out from the defol and definitely slowed down, leaves growing in funny ways etc, she is starting to stack now though. But im happy with how the Cookies and SD are going. Very frosty, the SD looks like its packing some weight. The smells coming out of the tent are also very lovely, grew the cookies before and the smell definitely is nostalgic. Going to do another 3 days of added PK 131/14 and then will do a week of reduced nutritents and then should start with plain water soon. Breeders say 70-75 days for SD and Cookies, not sure if they will be done in 10 days. No rush though. Will cut it all at once so hoping the NL catches up, she should take less time to flower.

getting new lights is always like..... how far the lights away from the seeedlings. Normally light companies give recommendations. as iam growing with similar lights ( quantum boards), i agree to you if you say, its tricky. And i would do it like... less is more until you found the right distance. I would start with around 80 cm and look how the lil ones respond. Or you dimm down to 30 watt, then you can go to around 15-20 cm.Its a great tool to dimm the lights. And the seedlings need a quite "weak" light. I most time use my secret jardin led ( each has 26 watt) to rise the little ones. In my Previous grow iam having same problem like you, i have new lights and dont know the accurate distance for the little ones.. So i start with 1 meter distance ( i got 150 watt Quantum board).... and then i look how they grow. if they get to leggy i lower the lights by 10 cm. iam guessing for 65-70 cm would be the optimal distance for my Girls in seedlingsstage. If they are 3 week old i go with the recommended distance from the lightcompany.

As these are auto's and i want to stress them as little as possible. Should i or should i not take off the really big fan leaves that are covering at least 2 or 3 potential tops. I know the leaf is doing a good job being there but i also am not really able to tuck the leaf?

Hello bro Yes is possible it's defolliation technique Defoliation involves strategically removing leaves from growing cannabis plants to locate resin production and improve yields at harvest time. Heading or topping, mainlining and lollipopping, schwazzing are well known applications of defoliation. Even cleaning by removing yellowing or damaged leaves is a form of defoliation When you decide to defoliate, the choice of applied technique is yours. Each one increases the yield in a similar way, only the silhouette of the plants differs. Factors to consider are genetics, volume of culture space and light intensity. Defoliation in general can be used on non-trellised plants to increase light penetration and airflow, rather than using any specific technique. Leaves that interfere with light penetration are removed during the life of the plant at the choice of the grower. Even during flowering. Cannabis flowers are incredibly effective for photosynthesis and will recover soon after defoliation. It's a magical art to manage the ratio of defoliation to the need for perspiration. Too much of it over-fertilizes your plants, exposing them to nutrient stress. When too many leaves are removed and the effectiveness of transpiration is interrupted, nutrients can accumulate in the root zone, causing a burn or blockage of nutrient absorption. The nutrient dosage should be adjusted to match the less demanding plants until they have recovered. The experience will eventually give you the right measure of the volume of greenery in the growing space. May the force be with you πŸ’ͺ

@AsNoriu, agreed, but they're beginning to grow quite vertical now, as if theyre stretching for more light. What wattage of QB do you run? :) I currently have them about 60cm and 90%, theyre starting to flower now

@skoondawg, lights too close, they are not growing, they are migeting ;)

I think the NL can handle the upping of the nutrients, its a resiliant strain

Hi i would look for the recommondations of the Lightcompany and add some distance. But i think bettr way is to dimm them to around 50 watt and get closer to them ( begin with around 25-30cm....... and watch them.....the good thing is you have to find it out only one time......the you know how strong the lights are. And those quantumboards are powerful, not the heat is the danger but the high quality light output. How big is your tent=? your lights should be great for 1meter x1 meter ( 3 "x3")... Iam growing with similar lights here..growdiaries.com/diaries/42326-club-riot-seeds-sicario-automatic-grow-journal-by-mrs-larimar-growdiaries . girls are already showing up today

@Spazmagi, Yo yo my dude, shot for subbing! I had the light at about 75 and at full power and then about 75% and i dont know, just felt like something was stunting the growth and being relatively new (only harvested twice before this sometime ago) i thought it could be the lights. So went for the safest bet - put them low and dimmed down to about 20000 lumens using my phone light meter. They seem to be enjoying it and i think ill get good compact plants as you say. Yeah im familiar with the SP150, lot of people growing with them! Looks a great light. I have the 288's with a 150w MW driver, so i can ramp the power up a bit more than the 135w V2 spec. Less efficiency but a bit more power, Hopefully will result in some dank ass kolas! Thanks man, see you around for sure!

@skoondawg, Consider me subbed for this run! My first instinct is to tell you to set the QB lights about 30" (75cm), but I like all the advice given. Dimming the lights down and dropping that height as close as possible without burn is best since it will keep internodal distance down as much as possible. I was given two Mars Hydro SP150 grow lights which are QB-style led panels, just a little more compact diode placement. More like the QB-288 as opposed to the QB-120 (if you are familiar with the HLG product spectrum). I wish you the best of luck and am looking forward to seeing how your grow turns out. Happy Growing!

@Mrs_Larimar, thanks for the answer to the question. I think you are spot on about less is more, especially for seedlings. I think i went a bit too hard on them in the beginning, but ive tuned it down now a lot. might even lower it more and dim even more to 30w like you say. New light, new challenges haha. We will figure it out

Iam not sure of your Light distance, girls growing very dense with ashort internodial distance. That means the light is atm to strong// to close on them. If they dont change that growstyle ( dense and short distance of internodes, rise your light for more stretch ( you need place for flowers)^^ greetings

skoondawgcommented5 years ago
@Mrs_Larimar, I thought about that. First grow i guess i will learn along the way. Currently she is 65cm away at about 140w. I will turn the power down a little :P Thank you for the advice :)

Haha nice idea with the bottom of bottles for a little green house, thats what i always do at this stage. Gets them some extra humidity. Looking forward to seeing what those lights can do. I would never go 100% power on seedlings its a waste of energy, just lower your power and move the lights closer if theyre getting too leggy. Last thing you would want to do is frazzle those things and they really do not need a lot of light at such an early stage. Check out my RQS Nothern Light auto ive got, it will show you what youve got to look forward to πŸ‘Œ

@BuddingBudda, hey BB! Thanks for dropping by. I have done exactly that. I have moved the light down to about 30cm (12inch) and lowered the power down to 30w. They seem to like it. This morning i saw a bit of new growth. So they are moving along! Will definitely go check your grow out right now. Did she grow quite tall? Lots of stretch? Im gonna have to keep all three ladies as short as possible and hoping the buds will stack extra dank and denseπŸ˜‡

Your light is too close still. I have QB , when i veg them i keep 40 cm away and 50% for first two weeks of veg, later 50 cm and 75. When i put them to flower its 60 and 100. But from that point i dont move lights. Had like 10 cm max from light still no bleaching or taco leaf... And forget that its your last lst, with your space, you will be working for 3 weeks more ;)

DinafemSeedscommented5 years ago
@skoondawg, That's one reason I thought it may not be an option mate πŸ™‚ Your making the right decision. Take the 2 Dinafem girl's as far as you can then harvest the NL at the same time πŸ‘ You won't lose any yield only trichome maturation in the final day's πŸ€— All the best ✌️ Mark..
skoondawg
skoondawgcommented5 years ago
@DinafemSeeds, ideally I would like to do that, but there's no where else to dry the other two ladies if I do that. So next best option is to harvest when 2/3 are ready. Maybe I will wait a bit longer. We will see how the trichomes develop.
DinafemSeeds
DinafemSeedscommented5 years ago
@skoondawg, could you not harvest the 2 Dinafem girl's then leave the NL another say 5-7 day's? It may not be a viable option but I thought I would suggest it πŸ‘ All the best ✌️ Mark..

One of my NL Auto's isn't having a good time either. The bud's are narrower and thinner than the other 2 I have growing.

@TheMachinist, yeah my NL was ahead of the other two but after defoliating her a bit too hard she got stressed out and slowed her down a week or two. I'll take a look at your grow :)
