4/14/2020 - Starting to feel like a crazy person. These girls are just not finishing. The very tip top of several buds is completely amber, visible to the naked eye, while only a couple inches lower I'm still seeing almost zero amber. I read another piece on determining ripeness through additional indicators, and they also show that I have a little time. My pistils are pretty much all faded, and the top-most pistils have retracted into the calyx a bit. Waiting on the rest of the bud to catch up. I don't mind a little bit of this harvest getting couch-locky (separate it out for night time) as long as I'm getting the majority of the flowers up to primo goodness. It would be a shame to harvest early and put all this waiting to waste.
I dimmed the lights a bit last week hoping that would simulate decreased daylight-- or at least save some cash-- and convince these girls to finish up. I also dropped PPM to 1100 max, often pushing it down to ~800 PPM on top off. Leaves have stopped dying for the most part, and the fade seems to be setting in more normally now. There's a decent amount of brown in the top layer of the canopy, and remaining leaves are fading at a rate more commensurate with the ripening of the flowers. In other words, I'm not worried about these girls making it to full ripeness, just getting tired of waiting. Odor is medium/low, but I'm hoping that points to me keeping temps down and not losing valuable terps more than anything! If they smell really strong, it means all that odor is being lost from the plant.
I'm getting real thirsty for these buds, but holding off chopping for as long as I can stand. Can't wait to dry/trim/cure these girls, squish some for rosin, and hash out/press the larfy buds. Tons of time for it right now anyways.
4/16/2020 - Tonight I took a sample bud from each plant to check ripeness. I trimmed away a couple sugar leaves to get a clearer view of the trichomes, put the loupe to my eye, put the bud to the loupe (under ripe), then went and apologized to my neighbor for the extreme gassy odor. Holy hell, @Alphakronik-genes you breed some nice ladies.
4/17/2020 - Things have literally progressed overnight. Amber trichs have made their way further down into the canopy, and I feel like they're definitely going to finish up just fine. The Alphakronik is maybe a five days out from 48 hours of dark. The other two ladies in the tent are just a few days ahead of that. May chop those without light deprivation. Gotta start prepping for harvest now!
@ThatsMyPurse yes I find it works a lot quicker if you provide the optimum temp and humidity so I use a heat mat with a heat controller set at 23c inside a germination/humidity box with clear plastic lid and then I reguarly mist the inside with water from a spray bottle .
How to maximize terpene production? I'm growing a strain that is supposed to be super stinky, and I so desperately want to get the full potential from this Chemdog cross. What does the plant need for producing terpenes and thiols? (My setup requires fully dissolved nutrients.)
-You can use additives like molasses and many others.
-You can play with the spectrum as they are spectrums that helps to have better veg and others to have better flo
-You can apply a dark period at the end of flowering.
-You try to reach the best values possible for your environment parameter.
-You need to have a stable genetic because cross can lean on the mother side or on the father side so if one smell good and the other not then you'll have to make a selection.
-You need to know when to harvest ( my cheese was at a perfect terpenes level when the trichomes were cloudy but an average smell when harvested with amber trichomes) , the harvest widow is important.
Started cutting today. Hung 1 plant in big chunks, left lower buds on.
Should I dry everything together? -or- Should I trim lower buds and make bubble ASAP?
Those buds look amazing! Great grow :)
I usually take my trim and freeze it fresh. When I'm ready to make hash, having the material already frozen will help the trichomes fall off. Perhaps freeze the trim from the first batch and join it with the second when it's ready?
Clones like it warm and very humid.. i cut the long leaves, so its easier for them to concentrate in the Roots. Give your Girls a tansparent dome ( half of a Plasticbottle) and put them on a warm place with light
@Mrs_Larimar, Thanks for the information. I've pulled them from the system back into a cloning tray and added a little heating pad under the tray. It's definitely high humidity in there, flooded some of the grooves in the tray to make sure of that. Going to wait until I see roots before moving them this time-- if they make it, but I've seen clones take longer to root.
Thank you again, love this community!
@ThatsMyPurse, we’ve been growing in it all winter lol! But we currently have 5 in full bloom and the rest are young ! We got a perfect rotation to keep it full between all stages of life! But the smell is starting to take over lol that’s why I’m interested in getting a filter system! But I’m gonna check into it and probably just do something like you said just hole cut what size I need in the door and just vent it out into the bigger room to keep the smell down thanks! 🙏
@MiPotFarm, Ah, not sure if you are planning on doing your complete grow in the closet, but you won't have much need for a filter during Vegetation. I grow out my mothers for cloning in my closet and just leave the door cracked with a fan running. If you need to drill/cut a hole, doors can be pretty cheap. There's always Home Depot & Lowe's, but you could also check for a larger resale shop. One resale shop in my area has TONS of doors for super cheap. Just a suggestion
@ThatsMyPurse, yea I guess I should of been more descriptive! I was wondering if it was running out to fresh air to vent like through the wall or if you were just venting it out of the grow room into another? I ask because I’m putting one in my closet grow I’m using but I don’t want to vent it to the outside through my wall because I’m adding a grow room in my garage to be more permanent and don’t want to be putting holes in my house lol! So you said your venting yours into a bigger area I think you still did answer my question! Thanks
Oh baby are those some gorgouse looking buds. So beautiful. Spectacular work growmie. Keep doing what it is you've been doing and may the ganja garden gods give you good fortunes until the end
@Denzul, Thanks for the encouragement! I've really enjoyed growing these girls and I'm very happy with them. It's really nice getting these comments, I don't know any growers where I live to pal around with.
Gonna start chopping after a quick meal!
@ThatsMyPurse, Hi I pretty much poured out all the fertilizer :-) in the end he became Canna. every now and then I grow with a different fertilizer but rarely. at canna, the values remain very stable, especially in aerophonic :-)
@MadeInGermany, Awesome! Thanks for checking mine out. How are you liking the Canna line of nutrients? I've only used GHE, but I like to try different formulations.
Great looking plants!
@Ferenc, Thanks again! They look much better int he photos. IRL, the foliage is making me nervous that these won't ripen in time! I'm sure it will be fine though. Have a great day!
@smoking_hills9, Thanks for checking it out. It was a dream project when I was younger, but too risky/illegal to attempt. I'm glad I got around to it, and I'm still surprised it actually works.
@Wachsemilian, I got too eager and set myself back. D'oh!
Pulled the clones from their little chamber too early and now it's been two weeks. I put them back in the lidded flat for high humidity two days ago. They are just starting to get rooted... or at least they are still alive. Not sure if they'll take. Input would be appreciated from a pro!?
@ThatsMyPurse, thank you appreciate the help, i have the same pump as well but i wasnt really happy with the droplet size(the same sprayers you started with) so im looking for better sprayers! thank you again i really appreciate the help.
@joeymack, I ordered everything for the aeroponics project on amazon; the lights were ordered on alibaba.
All research for the main pump points to the Aquatech 8800-- it is used for pressurized R/O water systems and NSF rated. The pumps I'm using for draining the bins are some inexpensive 9V arduino pumps I found on amazon. The nozzles are poultry misters, but they were hard to find inexpensive fittings that contained no brass. If you aren't as obsessive about droplet size, the barbed style ones from Mist King are more convenient to work with -- just jam them into the end of your compatible tubing.
Good luck, have fun, be safe! (Maybe the other way around)
