Finally invested in better lights for this grow! I got a couple of clones flowering right now under my full spectrum reflector LEDs but didn't bother creating a diary for it since they were a few weeks into veg when I got them.
Settled for a DIY COB with 6 CREE CXB3590 running 50W each @ 1.4A, passive heatsinks, and semi custom rails. Though about a quantum board but settled for the COB.
Started germinating a few seeds from MSNl. Durban Poison and Pure Power Plant was my choice this time. Durban Poison is feminized but the Pure power Plant is regular. I have separate diaries for each strain to follow.
Soaked the seeds overnight and sowed into soil. Driver for the COBs has a dimmer. During the seedling stage, this will be at its lowest setting.
Day 7 - 4 of 4 seeds sprouted. Very happy with with the 100% germination rate. 1 of the 4 is a late bloomer, hopefully she catches up. Lighting is is about 16 away from the canopy at its lowest setting. I will gradually increase intensity as we get good growth.
Got 3 strong ladies growing, hoping the other one catches up. Giving them distilled water and maintaining ideal temp and RH. The new COBs are keeping the room around 70°F even at night. Also hooked up the exhaust fan on the timer to keep the heat during the night. Low dose of nutrients will be introduced next week.
They grow up so fast!
Transferred the ladies to fabric pots and introduced some beneficial bacteria to the soil via Real Growers Recharge. Still going with Fox Farms trio this run and will be introduced this coming week. Lights are running at 50% but will be bumped up to full power soon.
We have 3 strong plants that will be filling up the screen that has been setup. Screen was made from 1" pvc pipes, eye hooks, and braided mason line.
They're responding well after the transplant. Showing good growth and will be topped soon. Maybe a few more weeks in veg maybe a month before they start filing in the screen.
Topped the ladies this week and added Grow Big to the feed. Also had to make an adjustment to my screen height. It was about 12 inches from the top of the soil but lowered to 9 inches. That should leave me plenty of space to defoliate and feed. On top of that, gives me a few inches of head room.
Did some light defoliation at day 36-38 removing big fan leaves. Transitioned to flowering by giving them a dark period of 24 hours. Added Fox Farms Tiger Bloom to the mix along with Mammoth Microbes Mammoth P. Doing some LST and pushing branches to go sideways before they even hit the screen. Just keeping up and making sure the lower nodes are getting good light by tucking the big fan leaves away. By week 3 of flower I'll defoliate whatever is left below the screen.
What are your thoughts on dark period? It's my first time trying it, but looks like it sped up the process of switching to flower. after 24 hours, pistils are shooting out!
Another thing I would like input on is defoliating. Do you prefer doing a "defoliation day" or just removing some here and there as time goes by?
1st week of flower flower after 24 hours of darkness. Not much to report other than filling up the screen and moving fan leaves to get light to lower growth.
oh yeah, also had to back off on the nutrients due to slight burning.
2nd week of flower - the screen is filling in nicely, defoliate bigger fan leaves and removed smaller growth below the canopy. Taking it easy on the nutrients since I noticed some tips burning. Alternating nutrients and microbes seems to work.
Week 3 of flower still showing some stretch but was able to manage and weaved into the screen. The canopy is pretty even and will be left alone from now on. Just some defoliation along the way and upping the mammoth P.
She grew another inch or two since last week. Maintaining light distance to 16 inches. Everything seems to be doing just fine. Good bud development. Should get pretty fat the next couple of months. Sweet scent has been increasing 👆
The ladies seem to be doing just fine under the COBs. Increased nutrients and Mammoth P this week. Bud formation is taking off! Light defoliation throughout the week just to remove big fan leaves covering buds. This will be a long flowering strain 12-14 weeks. Stay tuned😎
We're about halfway through flowering and everything is doing pretty well. Just being more cautious about nutrient burn. Still alternating nutrients and microbial during watering. Buds are definitely getting fatter and starting to smell.
This week we stopped using Recharge and Grow Big since we're getting closer to finishing up. We are expecting another 4-5 weeks and should start flushing soon. Buds look great and the scent is just nice and sweet.
another week has gone by... trichomes are mostly cloudy but no signs of any amber. I'll be reducing the nutrients but still continue the Mammoth P. Breeder has this at 12-14 week flower time but I feel like she'll finish up sooner.
Started flushing them out with just mammoth p. Colors are now fading and milky trichomes but no signs of amber yet. I can't wait until they're ready for harvest.
Another week closer to harvest but not quite there yet. Trichomes are all milky but very few amber. Flush has begun, water and mammoth p until the end. I still think I'll be able to harvest this month and be a grower of the month contender 😉
Go easy on the nutrients with this one. I got some nute burn during veg and had to throttle back my feeding regimen. If you like Sativa and big buds, you can't go wrong with Durban Poison. This strain is definitely going to be in my growing rotation.
Chopped them down with all milky trichomes to maximize energetic effects. I'm excited to see whats on the scale once they're all dried up. Based on the looks alone it seems like they loved the COBs.
Thank you for all the likes and kind words! Stay tuned for final numbers and more pictures. Time to focus on my Girl Scout Cookies 😃
2/26 added more photos. New pics are the first set of buds that are dried and ready to be cured. I will update final weight once everything is curing + taste test 😋. Smell should start coming back too!
3/5 Final weight is in... 232g! I'm pretty happy with the yield under the COBs. Next run of Girl Scout Cookies (checkout the diary)I will do 2 plants instead of 3 and see if I can achieve same yield. By the way, this is not including the larfy buds and sugar leaves that I saved for extraction 😉. Been super busy and haven't been able to do a proper photoshoot. Hopefully in the next couple of days...
Looking forward to see what you get for weight off three plants and 300w led-cob. I'm doing 5 Durbs under one 450w led, so things are going to have to be managed well to get the most. I really like how your plants look underneath during late veg, super green and well manicured and the plants obviously loved it. I'm going to be using your journal as a reference for my girls, so thanks for your time to do all the posting.
@vancitybuzz, check back in a week, should be all dried up by then. feel free to contact me if you have any questions or concerns. I hope my diary will provide some guidance with your grow. Thank you and happy growing 🙏
Your girls look absolutely beautiful. Do you have plans to top and train them? Judging from your scrog it seems like you have some fun in store for these girls.
@DabCrab, Thanks! Yes. They should be topped by my next update. It'll be my first scrog but I think I gathered enough information on how to do it properly. Wish me luck! 😂
I am so grateful I found this website, and your journal. You have my vote for GOTM. I just started growing Durban Poison myself and seeing the absolutely stunning plants you have raised, I am even more ecstatic to grow! My little seedlings are not quite yet popping through the surface yet! Perhaps the next day or two I suppose. Thanks so much for posting your progress for us new guys to see =)
@vancitybuzz, Welcome to Grow Diaries! Thanks, I'm very proud of my latest grow. Finally chopped them down and started to dry. Good luck with your grow! I will be keeping an eye on it 😉
Damn amazing grow SnS, looks mint. I'll def put my vote on this grow for DoM. Loving the PVC DIY 👍🏻.
For your COBs what wattage/spectrum are those ? And what did it cost to make the light setup ?
Keep up the sweet pictures. Your flowers look amazing as does everything in this grow ✌️
@JusGrowIt88, thanks! 🙏 6 COBs 3500K, actual power draw is a little over 300W. I spent about $500 on this setup. Thanks again, and I'm glad you like my diary!
Hey man your plants looks awesome! Nice and healthy. I figured you would have stayed in veg for a few more weeks to grow into the scrog before flipping. But either way I think it's going to turn out great just spread them out as they stretch and you should have a nice thick canopy there you're lighting structure kicks ass too bud great job keep it up
@Bigpun, The original plan was to fill up the screen before the switch but I was too worried about the stretch since its a sativa. Seems like the ladies are loving the new light setup. Thanks for the input! 👊
